Sorry for the late update, but I hope to make up for it with over four thousand words. This chapter is in Trent's POV, and I wanted to let you know. I will have to start updating every second Sunday, because I have to focus a lot of time on something unrelated. I will continue to write, and thank you all for reading this story.
We have sat in this cell that looks like a cell you'd keep the X-men. It's all shiny and shit. The room is also rectangular, and has long bench seats attached to the longest parts of the room. I am sitting next to, Caiden had his head in his hands next to me, and on the other bench Jason was sitting between Kelly and Elliot, the tension between them was as thick as a brick.
From what I had gathered, it would seem, Elliot and Chuck may have gotten to know each other really well, during the free days, Chuck was missing. Kelly is obviously not okay with that.
Man, there is so much drama and here, and I can only image how much drama is happening with the girls. Maybe some sexy girl fights … that would be so awesome. This blows being in here.
"I am losing my mind with boredom." I groaned, as I laid on the bench.
"I'm losing my mind with worry." Caiden said.
"We all are, Caiden." Kelly said.
"How about we play a get to know you game." I suggested.
Immediately everyone started to groan, and I sat up.
"Here me out, it'll pass the time, and we can all get to know each other, and I think we should try to know one another, since we are now in the same pack." I proposed.
"What do you suggest, Trent?" Jason asked.
"We all say a word that has the same first letter of our name, then we say our name for example: Tropical Trent." I said.
"I don't want to do it." Caiden said.
"Then I'll do it for you, Corporal Caiden." I said.
"Corporal Caiden?" Caiden asked.
"Yep, how about this, two people pair up – I'll step out so it's even – and give each other a word." I suggested.
"Your better at this than me, Trent, you do it, and I'll step out." Caiden suggested.
"Whatever. I choose Jason, Juggernaut Jason." I stated.
"Juggernaut, why did you choose juggernaut?" He asked.
"Dude, your biceps are bigger, than my face." I explained.
"Okay…Thank you for the compliment, Trendy Trent." Jason said.
"Ha-ha, nice one there, Jason. Kelly and Elliot, it's your turn."
"I don't want to play. We shouldn't be playing games, not when we have no idea where the girls are or where our Alpha is."
"By girls, don't you mean, Chuck." I commented.
Elliot ignores my comment, and sits down, but his silence answers the question, but it's not an answer, Kelly wants to hear.
"What's with you and her?" Kelly questioned.
"I have no idea what you mean." Elliot lied.
"Oh, I think you do, and I want to know what happened between you two." Kelly argued.
"Nothing happened, Santiago told me to guard her, and I guarded her. End of discussion." Elliot stated.
"It's not end of discussion, because – " Kelly started.
"Because what, Kelly? Are you angry that I was holding her captive or holding her hand?" Elliot asked.
Kelly then began to walk towards Elliot, who stood up in response, but Jason blocked his way.
"Okay guys, I think that's enough of the teen drama. Let's all sit down, and talk about something other than kidnapping and handholding."
The two of them backed away from one another, but suddenly, Caiden burst out laughing.
"What's so funny?"
"You, your situation is funny to be exact. I just can't believe the odds of me ever seeing it again."
"Seeing what?"
"Let me ask you something, Elliot. Did you instantly feel drawn to, Chuck?"
"Yes."
"Did you find yourself talking with her for hours on end, like you had an almost instant connection?" Caiden asked, as if reading off a checklist.
"Yes." He answered.
"Could you imagine not seeing her again?" Caiden asked.
"No I couldn't, not ever." Elliot said.
Kelly rolled his eyes, while, Caiden laughed a short laugh, and then clapped his hands. "Congrats, Elliot, you have found your true mate - or at least a contender for it. I think." He said.
"True mate, what the hell does that mean?" Kelly exclaimed.
"It means exactly as it sounds, Kelly. It's a werewolf version of true love and soul mates. It's rare, and I have only ever seen one other pair of true mates. They were in mine and Serena's old pack; they were such an awesome couple, although it was slightly awkward, because I dated Cyrus for like two years." Caiden said.
"Cyrus sounds like a dude's name." I said.
"That's because it was his name." Caiden said.
"You're gay." Jason asked.
"I'm not gay, I'm bi, although I do prefer men." Caiden explained.
Everyone sits around awkwardly, and I suddenly feel like I should help relieve the tension.
"Well, I'm gay too." I said.
"What!" Everyone yelled.
"You're gay - you." Caiden said.
"Wow, you are all being extremely offensive. Do you hate gay people, is that it?" I said.
"We don't hate gay people, we were–"
"I'm kidding. I know you weren't trying to be mean." I revealed.
Caiden slaps the back of my head. "Ah!"
"I can see why Alex hits you all the time." Caiden remarked.
"Yeah, but she doesn't hit me that hard on my head." I argued.
"Maybe she should start." He suggested.
"Ha-ha, you're hilarious – not really." I said, sarcastically.
"You said, were. What did you mean were? What happened to them?" Elliot asked.
"They are another reason we are in this super crazy town. The Shifter raped … Cyrus, and um…" Caiden stops talking. He licks his lips, and takes exhales slowly, as he starts to get teary eyed.
I put my hand on his shoulder. He grabs it, and smiles at me. "It's alright, bro." I assured him.
Caiden laughs coldly, and then takes a deep breath. "It raped him, while it looked like me." Caiden revealed.
"What do you mean, it looked like you?" Jason asked.
"That's what it does, it can shape shift into people, and it shape shifted into me, so Todd - Cyrus's true mate - tried to kill me. I killed him in defensive, and Cyrus jumped off a cliff, after losing Todd. I was going to follow him, but, Serena stopped me. I can still remember how bloody she was, when she did." Caiden said.
"Why was she bloody?" I asked.
Caiden puts his head down, like he is deeply contemplating something.
"I can't tell you, but what I can say is that she got even bloodier when we found Jason – our former Alpha – it was his fault, and Serena just went ballistic. She sort of blacked out, but she did remember slashing open his throat.
"You didn't try to stop her." Kelly said.
"I was not going to interrupt, the process of a beta becoming an Alpha." Caiden explained.
"How was it this Jason guy's fault?" Jason asked.
"Serena ripped out his throat, before we could get the reason, but we both knew the gist was that he was power-hungry and in love with Serena." He explained.
"Well he got rejected to the extreme." I commented.
"Let's stop talking about this, okay." Caiden groaned.
"Why?" Kelly asked.
"Because what I have just told you, is all you are going to hear from me." Caiden responded.
"Can we ask what colour her eyes were before?" Jason asked.
"Her eyes were yellow, but she has killed - if that's what you were trying to get at." Caiden answered.
"I thought if you've killed, your eyes are blue." Elliot argued.
"If you kill an innocent, and she didn't kill any innocents." Caiden countered.
"Well – "
"Enough! We aren't going to talk about this anymore!" Caiden yelled.
"Jeez." I said.
"I'm sorry, all of you kept on hounding me." Caiden apologized.
"Sorry, we should talk about something else." Jason suggested.
"Like what." Caiden asked.
"We should talk about this stuff about true mates." Elliot answered.
"You're still curious about it." Caiden asked rhetorically.
"Why wouldn't I be?" Elliot answered, plainly.
"I just want to clarify that; she may not be your true mate. The whole thing is complicated, and there are like two different stories about how it all works." Caiden warned.
"It's fine, just explain it the best way you can." assured, Elliot.
"Ah, the first says that four people each representing the elements of: Fire, Water, Wind and Earth. They are candidates for a wolf's true mate, they compete or are chosen." He recounted.
"It sounds like a Hunger Games version of the Bachelor." I joked.
Everyone one turned to look at me, and gave me the - shut up - look.
"Sorry continue." I apologized.
"The second story is that they are merely stepping-stones towards our true mate. Each person whether they are fire, water, wind, earth, which will lead to the last element which is spirit, essentially getting us ready for them." Caiden explained.
"How does –"
The door slams open, as the Englishman - whose name I found out before is Reece - comes bolting in. His eyes scan the room, and then fall on, Caiden.
"Get up now!" He ordered, Caiden.
Caiden was on his feet in an instant. "I am not some dog, you –" Caiden began.
"Serena's collapsed." He interrupted.
"What happened?" Caiden asked.
"No time to explain, just follow me." Reece said.
"Trent comes with me." Caiden said.
"Fine." Reece said, and then walked out the room.
"Why do I have to come?"
"Just go!" He yelled.
I get up, and walk towards the door, and see Reece holding the handle of the door.
"Jason, you're in charge. Make sure they don't kill each other." I heard Caiden say.
He then stepped out, and Reece shut the door.
As my feet left the garden, Bernard slid open the door, and stepped in revealing the sight of a very ill, Serena. Her skin was pale and glistened in sweat. Her forehead was covered in a wet rag and was covered by a blanket as she laid on the floor.
As Caiden and I walked into the room, I noticed two women in the room.
"The woman by the cauldron is Ivy Blake, acting council representative of witches, as well as the acting Lady of the stars." Bernard introduced. I look towards Ivy, who sat beside a small cauldron, near, Serena.
"The other woman is Lady Hinata Hiroshi, council representative of the were-people, and Lady of the Moon." Bernard introduced.
She stood with her back towards me, showing only her dark hair that poured down her amazing kimono with a fox that looked like it was made of fire. She was standing in front of a black suit of samurai armour, the helmet had a face plate of a growling wolf, it was very freighting and I was immediately reminded of, Serena.
Caiden quickly went to, Serena. He dropped to his knees beside her and held her hand. He looked so … distraught. He really cares about her, like really cares about her.
"Mr Jackson searched the cells, but he could not find her, so he collected Mr Avery." Bernard informed.
"How do you know my last name?" He asked, looking away from, Serena.
"We've been aware of you all, since you signed for ownership of your new home. Bernard please continue what you were saying." Hinata said, she didn't turn around, but I noticed she had a sexy voice.
"Mr Avery had insisted Mr McKinnon be brought." Bernard continued.
"I still have no idea why though." I said.
"I brought you because, during a discussion with, Serena, she mentioned that she wanted you to be pack healer." Caiden said.
"Was she smoking crack? I have to get someone to help me to put on a bandaid, why would she want me to be a healer?"
"I have no clue."
"Well, I have no idea what –"
Hinata then turns around and I am stunned, because she is just so astonishingly beautiful. She looked like she was in her thirties. Her face was expressionless, and I had the urge to make her smile. Her body was lithe, and her eyes … wow.
"Mr McKinnon." She said, snapping me out of me daze and making myself look like a total spaz. I have to redeem myself.
"Trent, call me, Trent." I said.
She gives me nod. "Trent, do you know what you are wearing?" She asked.
"… I'm wearing a kimono." I replied.
"A doctor's kimono." She amended.
I frown. "None of this makes sense. I –" I started.
"Serena is a warrior, and that suit of armour behind me, was what she was wearing, when she stepped through that door. Do you not agree that, Serena is a warrior?" She asked.
I look at the armour; I wondered why it reminded me of her. I think about what, Serena has done, since I have known her. She outsmarted Robbie, Alex, Avery and I, when we first met. She won, without spilling any blood. Then I think about when she fought Santiago, she was smart, instinctual and selfless. She was willing to die for us and for people she barely knew.
I also think about where I would be now if it weren't for her. I would probably being eating trash and sleeping in a cave. She may not realize it, but she gave me a home, and even in my old life, I lived in a house, but it wasn't a home.
I look at the face of that suit of armour, and I see fury. I use to see that kind of look every day in the mirror when I was younger, and what saved me then was my little sister, Leah. She symbolized hope, love and peace for me. I want that for, Serena, she should have that even doesn't think she deserves it.
"If a warrior means being a leader or a hero or a protector, then yes, she is a hero." I responded.
Hinata puts her hand on forearm, and I am paralysed. "You are wearing, who you are, Trent. You're a healer; don't ever doubt yourself about who you are." She told me.
I look down at her hand, then back at her and smile. "I always did wonder why I looked wicked in white."
She returns my smile with a small one, and then drops her hand, but I still feel the phantom feeling of her touch linger on my skin. I got her to smile.
"What happened, specifically?" Caiden asked, interrupting mine and Hinata's conversation.
"Serena's armour changed colour - which was strange - so she looked in the water of the pond, and then she looked up at the cherry tree, as if she saw something." Ivy answered.
"We checked the tree; nothing was there to be found." Hinata added.
"She then began to howl in pain, and collapsed. We carried her into here, and Mr. Bishop and Ms. Desirae – the other two council representatives – left, so that Maria could be brought in."
"Did you just say, Maria?" Caiden asked, suddenly alarmed.
"Yes, but Mr Jackson couldn't find her." Ivy answered.
"That's because she is dead – murdered." Caiden revealed.
"Oh …" Ivy murmured.
"How was she murdered?" I asked.
"Her heart was ripped out of her chest, right in front of Serena."
Whoa … no wonder, Serena is so … distant
"Was it the abomination she mentioned in the truck?" Hinata asked.
"Yes." Caiden answered blandly.
"What is it?" Ivy asked.
"It was a shifter that could shape shift into other people; it destroyed our former pack from the inside out. Serena and I were the only survivors, but the creature escaped once Serena killed our former Alpha." Caiden explained.
"We grieved, but, Serena couldn't let go of her pain and anger. Hunting the shifter is her way of finding peace, and when she finds it, I hope she finally has some peace. I mean it's not like I want her to do this, I wish she would let it go, and just live her life, but I know why she can't." He continued, like he was talking to himself.
"Why?" I asked, snapping him out of his lone conversation.
"Come over here." He said to anyone and everyone.
We all walked over, as Caiden pulled, Serena's collar showing her shoulder. On her shoulder was an inflamed bite mark.
"What the …" Caiden said, to himself as he gentle examined the bite mark.
"What's wrong with her shoulder?" I asked.
"That mark was made only a year and half, it shouldn't look like that." He said, with a dumbfounded and concerned expression.
"Why does she have a bite mark in the first place?" Bernard asked.
"Serena and Maria bit it each other, making each other their mates." He answered.
"Do you mean Maria was her true mate?" I asked.
"No, Maria was just the girl she loved – loves." He corrected himself.
"That explains why's she's so sick." I said.
Everyone turns and looks at me.
"Caiden you said, this place is limbo, so there could be a possibility that, Serena saw, Maria and that triggered something." I suggested.
"That isn't possible; spirits can't set foot on these grounds." Hinata disagreed.
"You said, she looked up in a tree, maybe Maria was in the cherry tree. She wouldn't have touched the ground if she were in the tree." I argued.
"What should we do, Trent?" Caiden asked me.
"We should get her out of here." I advised.
Caiden flicks the blanket off of her: lifts her up, and head for the door.
"We don't know if that will work, for all we know it could kill her." Ivy disputed.
Caiden turns and looks at Ivy. "Or the longer she is here, the worse she'll get." Caiden retorted, antagonistically, as he gave her a malicious glare.
Man, what is with the enmity, Caiden has with Ivy. What did she do other than keep, Serena alive.
"Slide open the door, please, Trent." Caiden asked. I could hear the animosity in his tone.
I nod, and slide open the door. Caiden walks out of it, with Ivy behind him. I quickly notice her short height as she stands near Caiden who is 6 ft. tall, and she comes just below his shoulder. Everyone else walks out the room, and as I am about to, Hinata puts her hand on my chest to stop me.
I immediately worry, that she could through the robe feel how rapidly my heart is pounding.
"I want you to tell Serena to see me, when she wakes up." She told me.
"Getting her to leave might not work." I debated.
"Trust me, it will." She stated, confidently.
"Well, where should I tell her to meet you?" I queried.
Hinata drops her hand, and walks towards a small table in the corner of the room, and begins to quickly right an address. When she is finished, she comes towards me and grabs my hand and puts the parchment in my hand and wraps my hand around it, covering my hand within both of hers.
"Please give this to her, Trent." She asked, sincerely.
I shift my thumb over her pinkie, and wedding finger, as an affirming action. "I will." I said.
We stand there looking at each other, her eyes bore into mine. I hope I'm not being a weirdo.
"Trent, I –" Hinata began.
"Where the fuck is this damn door?" Caiden yelled from the garden.
"It's over here, you giant fool!" Ivy yelled.
Hinata drops my hand. "Sounds like you should be going." She said.
"Aren't you coming?" I asked.
"Can't, I have to be the last to leave, because I was the first who entered?" She explained, as she walked away from me.
"Um … I don't want to seem like a weirdo, but will we be seeing one another again?" I asked.
"Yes." She answered.
"Trent!" Caiden yelled.
"Lovely to have met you." I said, quickly, then bowed and sprinted out the door, towards the door. Where, Caiden was standing with Serena in his arms, and Ivy next to him
"I'm here." I announced.
"Good now we can go." Caiden asked.
"Bernard." Ivy said.
He opened the door open. "Trent you go through first." Caiden told me.
I nod and I step through, and I quickly do a double-check of my clothes, which have gone back to my yellow flannel shirt and jeans. I see the two creepy guys beside the door, and I notice Jackson is beside me. Ivy then walks towards the door.
"Whoa! Where do you think you're going?" Caiden questioned.
"I'm coming along." She said.
"Like hell you are." He exclaimed.
"Are you a trained doctor?" She asked.
"No, I'm not, but Trent is our healer, and Avery is an emissary." Caiden argued.
"Oh, I fully aware of that, which is why I'm insisting I am coming along, no offense, Trent." She countered.
"None taken." I replied.
"We don't want you to come with us." Caiden said.
"Actually I'd prefer it if she came along." I corrected.
"Fine, I don't want you to –" He began.
"I am bloody coming with you, whether you want me to or not." She interupped.
"Over my dead body." He growled.
"That can be arranged." She said, coldly.
Oh, snap.
They stare at each other coolly. I think now is the time to step in.
"Let's just take a step back from the topic of killing, okay. Now, Caiden, she has taken care of Serena, and all I think she wants is to make sure Serena is properly taken care of. She is a freaking doctor, bro, she could help, and we could use some help." I suggested.
I look at Ivy.
"Ivy I know you're a big boss, and you could bring down the hammer if you wanted to, but I don't think now is the time. Caiden is just super protective; which is why he is the pack protector. So how about you both let each other do what you do best." I suggested.
After continuing to stare each other down, Caiden exhales loudly.
"Well, go on then." He growled.
"Oh, thank you so much." Ivy said, sarcastically.
Ivy turns around and walks through the door. After she does I have to blink my eyes a couple of times, because it would seem like Ivy's clothes have not only changed into a black lacy dress, but her hair and eyes have changed from blonde and brown and blue and brown. She is also taller, because she now has black high heels. She looks hot, in a posh, authoritarian way.
"What – how – why … wow." I asked, like an idiot.
"It's complicated." She answered, and then turned around.
"Will you stop gawking and bring her through." Ivy said.
That comment wipes the dumbfounded expression on his face, and he walks through the door. Both he and Serena's clothes changed, Caiden in his classic white jacket and, Serena in her black coat.
Ivy reaches up and moves, Serena's collar to look at the bite mark.
"It's starting to go down." She informed, happily.
"Can we take her home or do we have to continue this political bullshit?" Caiden asked, again giving Ivy a negative expression.
"Yes you can, but like I said, I would like to come along and observe her for a day." Ivy replied, not responding to his negative behaviour towards her.
"Fine." He grunted, and then went towards the stairs.
"Reece, please make sure the rest of Serena's pack are released and that they are given transport back. We'll take, Serena in my car." Ivy ordered.
"Yes, Ivy." Reece said.
She put her hand on his arm, affectionately. "Thank you, Reece." thanked Ivy.
That's interesting, they're on a first name basis, and they look like they're close.
"What type of car do you have?" I asked.
"Oh, you'll see." She teased, and then walked down the stairs, with Reece following two steps behind her.
The sounds of her heels clicking against the stone, echoed. I looked back at the door, and gave Bernard the peace sign, and then I went down the stairs.
