Bonnie was trying to sleep when Kol walked into the room and sat down on the bed next to her, seeming to be under the impression that he needed to stay up all night once again to watch over her.

Bonnie opened one eye and peered up at him before closing it again and commenting, "You can sleep, you know."

"Not when whoever did that to you could easily come back again tonight," Kol responded.

"It was Rebekah," She informed him, opening her eyes slightly. "She told me. She also said that it wasn't going to happen again… And I believe her."

Without a word, Kol got up from the bed and began to head for the door, presumably to go find his sister and have a little talk with her.

He was halfway across the room already by the time that Bonnie was able to react enough to sit up and say, "Kol, stop."

He kept walking, but did significantly begin to slow. When he reached the doorway, he came to a full stop and turned his head to look back at her over his shoulder.

"I can defend myself you know," She told him. "I think that I've proved that already today. Besides, apparently she was mad because I was getting too much attention. Her doing anything else would only get me more."

Kol let out a bitter and humourless chuckle as he mumbled, "That sounds like her."

Bonnie tore her gaze away from the rigid silhouette in the doorway and let her head fall back onto the pillow. "I'm going to sleep. You should too, preferably without going to go talk to Rebekah and making her hate me even more."

With that, she shut her eyes and pretended to be completely indifferent to what decision he would make as she laid completely still. Several seconds passed in dead silence before she heard Kol's quiet footsteps coming back towards the bed.

As he crawled into the bed and made himself comfy, Bonnie continued to lie facing the opposite direction from him, not so much as opening her eyes still.

What felt like an eternity passed as Bonnie tried willing herself to fall asleep while her mind betrayed her, whirring with activity as she tried to sort out her thoughts about Kol.

At first things had seemed so simple and clear-cut. Kol had been a bad guy and a bad person who had forced his presence upon her and at that point she had nothing less than hated him.

But things had become much more complicated over the last few days as she had realized that he wasn't as bad as she had thought and she had even grown to find that, as much as she may have hated to admit it to herself, he could be sweet and show genuine concern for her when he wasn't choosing to be a pigheaded jerk instead. She was beginning to realize now just how complex things were here and, with a little help from her new friend Stefan, that the pirates weren't necessarily all bad.

As she struggled to sleep, Bonnie found herself replaying the events of the night before… The look that had been on Kol's face when he had seen what had happened to her hand, the way that he had taken care of her when she was injured and had been gentle with her instead of belittling her for being a crying mess... His words echoed in her head along with his look of guilt that had accompanied them.

"I shouldn't have brought you with me. All it's gotten you is hurt. I'm sorry."

Bonnie rolled over, frustrated by her lack of control of her thoughts. She was now facing Kol who appeared to be peacefully asleep. She brought her arm up and put it between her head and pillow as she began to study his face curiously.

She wished that she didn't remember the way that it had felt the night before, lying in his arms. She had felt so safe there as the warmth radiated off of him. She couldn't help but think of the rhythmic thumping of his heart beneath where her head had rested on his bare chest and the way that his fingers had reassuringly stroking the exposed flesh of her arm that was resting on his chest next to her head. She desperately tried to push away the memory of how those two things combined had slowly lulled her to sleep.

Even worse was thinking about the way that it had felt waking up the next morning, practically lying across Kol. She had been so comfy and she hadn't wanted to move. The last time that she had woken up with someone like that had been Ben, but that was before all of the drama that was their breakup.

As Bonnie thought about it, she realized that the breakup with Ben really hadn't been that long ago, it just felt that way because it was like time ran completely differently on this ship. In reality, Ben had broken Bonnie's heart only a couple of weeks ago and Caroline had brought her on a singles cruise to try and cheer her up and help her move on, something that seemed almost laughable now… Although she had to admit that Caroline's little trip had at least succeeded in distracting her enough to keep her mind off of Ben.

As one of the corners of Kol's lips twitched slightly upwards, Bonnie was dragged back out of her thoughts.

"You do realize that it's rather difficult to fall asleep with someone staring at you, don't you?" He questioned without opening his eyes.

Bonnie felt colour flushing into her cheeks, not that he would have been able to see it in the dark room even if his eyes had been open, as she realized that he had been awake the entire time that she had been watching him under the presumption that he was asleep.

"I wasn't staring at you," She defended quietly.

Kol opened one eye and peered over at her before closing it again and telling her, "I could feel you staring at me. You still are."

"I was just lying here trying to sleep," Bonnie lied, refusing to admit the truth to him. "And the only reason that I was looking when you opened your eyes was because you started talking."

"Of course," Kol said, his smirk widening a little as his tone dripped with mockery.

She rolled her eyes and rolled back over to face the opposite direction before closing her eyes. She never turned back towards him before she eventually fell into a deep slumber.

Caroline Forbes woke up the next morning to an almost impossible quiet in the apartment that she shared with Bonnie, the apartment that she now lived in alone. But that was only temporary. Soon Bonnie would come back and everything would be back to normal.

She knew that she could keep telling herself as much as she wanted, but the truth was that Caroline had lost Bonnie. She had lost her best friend for good and it was all her fault. She never should have taken Bonnie on that cruise and she certainly never should have let Bonnie stay there with the pirates, especially by herself.

These thoughts plagued Caroline as she walked through the apartment which both seemed too empty without Bonnie's presence, as well as too full of reminders of her. Caroline flipped a picture frame down so that she wouldn't have to look at the photo of the two of them beaming on graduation day, but then quickly flipped it back up with a sigh.

Caroline would risk her life to get Bonnie back. She would show up on that ship and fight however many pirates there were a thousand times over in order to get her friend back. And she was going to, she told herself. She wasn't going to sit around here and wait any longer, she was going to fight and she was going to get her friend back.

There was only flaw with that plan. She had no clue where that pirate ship was and not even the slightest idea of how to begin looking for it.

REVIEW ANSWERS:

pinkglitter2901: Aww thanks so much! :)

black111star: No problem. :)

boomkarakaraka05: Sorry, they aren't going to reunite quite yet, but I threw in some Caroline in this chapter and she is going to be a big part of this story once she and Bonnie are reunited. :)

LitLover 101: Don't worry, I don't want to strangle you! I put some Caroline into the end of this chapter because I was starting to miss her too. She's going to be in it a lot more and be a fairly main character soon or soonish, but a few more things need to happen first. :)
