The rest of it is mine... ALL MINE! BWAHAHAHHA! *thunder crackles in the background* ... So no stealing! =p Well, unless you ask me nicely. ^.^;;;

Author's Note: Sorry that I'm late with this chapter. Hope the chapter will be enough recompense. ^_^;;;

Thanks go out to my fantastic reviewers my Comrade and, of course, Guest. x) I'm glad you liked Asuka. She'll be playing a large part in future chapters. I'm interested to know what led you to believe she and Kagome might have a connection. Both characters will have more exposure in upcoming chapters as will Misato and your precious Eiko, naturally, though I'm glad you're branching out and taking a similar interest in Misato. =p Even Kaede will have more exposure; that was unexpected. x) The Senkou Dance won't be for some time, but I'm just as excited about it. It'll be my first major event for this story so I'm quite invested in it.

In fact, I think everyone has already been invited to the dance. Wait, what's that? I didn't make a scene for Nagisa? Will she not be attending the dance? Oh noes! =o

Kidding. Of course, the main character of the anime will be invited. =p She's only been a bit held back, which has prevented her from really introducing herself to any of the new students, but that's going to change.

However, at present, there's the trouble of just who is needed to make this Senkou Dance a success? Hikari and Amane have only invented the event. I doubt the rather reclusive couple have much experience in party planning so they'll be issuing assignments for those who could. Additionally, Amane's got a bit of a task to handle herself. What might that be? Well, read the chapter below and find out! ^.~

~Strawberry Panic: The Second Year~

A warm spring breeze blows across the trees, causing the leaves to rustle. Starbride takes heed of their song and, as she does, so does her rider. Amane shields her eyes from the brilliant light of the sun shining above, taking in the wonderful sensation of the season.

To herself, she says, "So it seems that time does heal all wounds. Even when Hikari worried, her friend was finding her way."

She suddenly has Starbride gallop through the trees, away from any usual track she might have used for practice. She stares ahead intently and says, "But… time waits for no one. I cannot stand back any longer. That task I undertook, I should be getting back to it. It is my duty, after all, as Etoile and as a proud student of Spica."

Starbride stops just before the Strawberry Dorms and Amane dismounts. She takes her crimson eyes up the walls, stopping at a specific window. "Soon."

Remounting her steed, she rears her and Starbride sets off at full gallop, back for Spica. The drapes, which had been drawn back are now down, shading the room from view.

Setup

Tamao has taken notice lately that her roommate spends much of her time out of their room. Thus far, the only time that's happened is a direct result of some new ploy by her girlfriend, the then Etoile. Tamao had spent quite a lot of her power to separate her precious Nagisa from the silver-maned temptress, but in the end, her siren's allure was always too much. With Shizuma off to university, Nagisa had been in their room much more often, though she did mention a few stints spent with Chikaru. Unlike the promiscuous Shizuma, Tamao never worried about Chikaru. At present, though, she realises how illogical that had been. Despite Shizuma's reputation for luring innocent girls into her thrall, Chikaru has almost regularly kept a harem of students from all three schools, drawing them in through her clubs. Tamao supposes the difference was simply the outright direct approach that Shizuma often employed when seducing her conquests as opposed to Chikaru's nurturing and loving air that, while it did draw them in droves, was just vague enough to pass as platonic. However, perhaps there was something more sinister between the lines.

Unfortunately, Tamao has other chores to tend to, namely the Senkou Dance created by the new Etoile. Amane and Hikari have changed things in ways Tamao didn't consider, but she had to admit it did bring new life to Astraea. The first years have been more active and outgoing. They have the chance to. If not for this dance that gives them power to invite those they appreciate, what would allow them to believe those idols would give them the time of day? The invitations provide these young girls who are just starting to develop their unique characters a start to building confidence. Tamao remembers her first year and being withdrawn after discovering that she was the only girl who didn't have a roommate. As if being new to a school filled with strong women within Miator and in its rival at Spica hadn't been intimidating enough, to have had to experience it alone was utterly destructive. She had fallen into her writing. In her stories, she could invent a life more suitable for her. Her talent for them grew, but she was still an introvert, keeping out of crowds and developing a soft voice. Those three years prior to Nagisa's transfer to Miator were torturous for the girl. These girls didn't have to endure that. Even if fate should strike them down with solitude, they had their senpais they could turn to. They wouldn't be trapped with themselves.

"Tamao-oneesama?" The President is roused from her melancholic thoughts by the arrival of her youngest assistant.

"You're here, Chiyo-chan." She replies with a smile.

Tests are fast approaching and Tamao has decided to put off her duties in order to tutor the girl, though she'd come a long way since the previous year. In fact, Tamao realises, she hasn't had to tutor anyone in a while. The two proceed to the library, Tamao taking hold of Chiyo's hand as they go. Tamao has an idea of where she'd like to find their study material first, but when they arrive, they both notice a familiar and unmistakable tuft of red amidst the brown oak of the library's furnishings. Clad in her white blouse and green summer dress, the girl shows great focus on her reading material. The scene is different from how Tamao has ever seen her roommate. Nagisa had always been the type of student that complained about studying and made idle wishes that the subject be eliminated or effaced completely from the world. This serious Nagisa, who didn't even take her eyes off her book to take a breath, she is nothing like the Nagisa Tamao knows.

"Nagisa-oneesama is very diligent." Chiyo states, breaking the silence as Tamao continues to watch.

"Oh, Chiyo-chan. Are you here to study, as well?" Nagisa asks, happy to see her friends, "Tamao-chan, too? The exams are coming soon and I wanted to be ready for them."

"Well, I was only here to help Chiyo-chan, but I guess she can just study together with Nagisa-chan if that won't be a bother." Tamao replies, pushing the second year to the adjoining seat.

Nagisa shakes her head, "No trouble at all! Tamao-chan must be very busy with more Student Council work."

Tamao lets loose a sigh, "Yes actually, but," she smiles, "I'm happy to be handling this task. Looks like Nagisa-chan is working very hard."

"Everyone is working very hard. I wouldn't want to be the only one slacking off." The redhead admits.

"Nagisa-oneesama has become a studious person." Chiyo admires, opening her own books to catch up.

Tamao gazes at the two, noting each of their changes since their arrival at Miator. They had both come a long way. With a nod to them, she departs, leaving them to concentrate on the upcoming tests.

Tamao arrives at her destination and faces a closed wooden door. She is standing before the Student Council Office where beyond the door is a plethora of paperwork waiting for her. She knocks on the door before she enters, taking a breath in preparation for the task at hand.

"Chihaya-chan? Mizushima-san?" She greets, marching straight for the white board, "We'll need to organise a committee."

"Tamao-chan." Chihaya responds, moving over to the assertive President.

"Kaichou," Noriko says, "I've compiled the letters we've received from the student body."

"Oh, Mizushima-san, we can't afford the time to go over those letters now." Tamao replies, going to her desk.

"Actually, Kaichou…" Noriko says, taking her grey eyes to the brunette.

"Tamao-chan, Noriko's sorted the letters and, unexpectedly, many are from the first years." Chihaya explains to the President, showing her one from the pile.

Upon seeing this, Tamao's eyes light up, "This is perfect! Miator has been appointed by the Etoile to create the theme of the Senkou Dance. If we organise all of these suggestions and run a tally for any repetitions, we should be able to compile a complete theme from them."

"We were thinking just that, but we've run into problems with categorising them. Many of the suggestions are just passing thoughts and some of them are…" Chihaya begins to detail.

"Out there." Noriko finishes for her, "Like this one, for instance. 'I am so excited about the dance that's coming up! Oh oh, we could set it to fantasy! Everybody has to come dressed up as their favourite sci-fi character! I think President Suzumi would look great as Spock!'"

"Who's Spock?" Tamao asks.

"Exactly. That's why we can say 'live long and prosper' to this one." Noriko replies, tossing the letter aside.

"Why would we want to say that?" Tamao asks again, obviously unaware of the popular series, "Never mind that. Mizushima-san, even though her idea was difficult to conceptualise, there might be something to the fantasy idea."

"We also have a budget to consider." Noriko suggests.

"No, nothing costly. However, if we're to have a Senkou Dance, which promotes the first years having exciting interactions with the older girls they've become fond of, a fantasy setting might not be too bad." Tamao explains her thinking.

"Should we begin sorting the ideas in the letters first and see if fantasy is a popular idea?" Chihaya suggests.

"Absolutely, Chihaya-chan. Are the letters signed? We may even want to discuss the popular ideas with the students that put them forth." Tamao notes, gathering up a pile for herself.

Momomi walks with typical confidence through the halls of Spica. The girls admire her from afar just as they had done for some time. Momomi beams with esteem, one of a select few in the whole of Astraea. She has always marveled at that. What made her so different as to garner such adoration from her peers? She wasn't an athlete of the calibre that her love and the Etoile were. She didn't carry herself with such distinction nor did she have the reputation of the previous Etoile. To Momomi, the fame she enjoyed feels artificial. Perhaps there has been interest in her solely due to who she was with. Kaname is and always had been the diva in the relationship. She stood out as one of the stars of Astraea. She may as well just be the princess to her majesty.

To this end, she has been struggling in the changing tides of thought ever since the Etoile-sen last year. Something was wrong with what occurred that year and it delves deeper than the simple events that played forth. It had left Momomi questioning her identity after having run with the current for so long. She isn't the girl that made her implications to Spica's prince and led unsuspecting girls into traps. This, she thinks as she opens the door to the music room where the Saintly Choir is just ending their session.

As soon as she enters, all eyes are upon her. Her steps are filled with the same bold air, but her expression is noticeably different. In place of the conniving smirk, the snarl of exaggerated pride that had been taught to her by the President, Momomi offers the members of the choir a friendly and demure smile. This change is most noticed by a specific group within the ranks of the choir. Yaya is caught by surprise at the girl's uncharacteristic warmth. The Kiyashiki-san she had known since she enrolled was prideful and uncaring, hardly one to display such passive gestures. Tsubomi also takes notice, though she only compares the difference to Momomi at her worst, deeply involved in a plot to herd Amane and Hikari with trying to ruin the annual play to top it off. However, the one they both assume would be the most withdrawn from the girl is also the one who goes to stand by her side.

As Hikari approaches the auburn-haired girl, she nods to her with a smile, giving her the floor. "Attention, Saintly Choir of St. Spica Girl's Institute. As you all know, the three schools will be holding a dance in the coming weeks. Being that you are all productive members of our proud school's choir, the Student Council has decided that it will fall on your shoulders to choose appropriate music."

Hikari giggles as she finishes the announcement, "Momomi-san is being awfully official."

"I'm not one for public speaking, Etoile-sama. I much prefer the more intimate face-to-face encounters." She replies.

"Then, why don't you?" Hikari asks, taking hold of her hand and leading her to her friends, "Yaya-chan, Tsubomi-chan, Eiko-chan Momomi-san would like to ask you something."

To that, Momomi only rolls her eyes, though playfully which also comes as a surprise. Yaya is the first to respond. "What could the President's assistant need of us?"

"I asked the whole of the Saintly Choir to find music, but we'll need to ensure that they work with the ideas put forth by Miator and Lulim. After all, the Senkou Dance will be held by all three schools. I'd like it if you could help with that, to make sure the gears are well-oiled."

"You can count on us!" Tsubomi exclaims, "As students of Spica, it is our duty to show excellence in all our endeavours."

Yaya gazes at her with soft amber eyes, a look rivaled by Eiko. After this, Hikari takes her leave, walking side by side with the representative of Spica's Student Council. It still feels awkward to Yaya, but then, if Hikari could forget what's past, there isn't a reason for Yaya not to. With Tsubomi and Eiko already busy working with the choir, Yaya grins to herself and follows suit.

"The theme hasn't been decided yet?" Kizuna asks, having gathered together once again with Remon, Kagome, and their near universal club president in Chikaru.

This time, though, they also have their first year additions in Kaede and Miator's Misato to bolster their ranks, much to the jubilation of the President. The dance has become an early device with which the Etoile are unifying the three schools. They had appointed Miator with deciding the theme of the event, which dictates the proper attire and setting. Spica, specifically its Saintly Choir, was given the task of music, which would have to match with Miator's overruling selection of theme. Likewise, Chikaru had been notified by Hikari and Amane that Lulim had the responsibility of fitting a venue to the theme Miator would choose, which would also have to correlate to the music atmosphere decided by Spica. As neither have been finalised yet, Lulim would have the least amount of time to settle on their choice and prepare it.

"No and, from what I heard, Suzumi-sama is going around the Strawberry Dorms to interview the first years about what they might want." Misato adds.

"Interviews?" Chikaru ponders, rubbing her chin while her eyes narrow, "That's quite a cunning tactic. What better way to guarantee a well-received choice than to choose it from the very students it was designed for?"

"But until Miator chooses a theme, Spica can't figure out what to do about music." Kaede reports, having undertaken the mission to investigate their activities as assigned to her by her senpai, Remon. "As far as I know, they've gone with several categories of tracks in anticipation for what Miator will decide."

"So, rather than wait, Spica is going to draw out several palettes of music so that no matter the theme, they will not be burdened by Miator's tardiness. Interesting…" Chikaru deliberates aloud.

"What do you suggest, Chikaru-sama?" Misato asks of the Student Council President.

"Well, far be it for me to let good ideas slip by. We'll take on both ideas." Chikaru announces.

"Both?" The other girls ask in unison.

"Both. We'll have to come up with several venues like Spica so that we're not caught off-guard by an unexpected selection of setting, but in order for us to start, we'll need to have some basic idea of what the likely decisions might be." Chikaru explains.

"I think they might choose a tea party!" Kizuna blurts out, "We should build a menu of tea and biscuits!"

This earns her her roommate's shake of the head and, as Remon goes to rub her temple, she asks, "Do you really think that's what they'll choose or is it just because you want to drink tea?"

"M-maybe I want tea…" Kizuna replies sheepishly.

"In that case, I think it'll be a disco." Remon says, crossing her arms in indignation.

"Ooh, that could be fun, too!" Kizuna chirps, dancing to the music playing in her mind.

"A disco would sound fun. Oh, how about a ball theme?" Kaede suggests.

Misato takes her hand, "Now that sounds like an idea."

She twirls the slighter girl and pulls her into her arms, stepping to the apparent waltz playing in their minds. Eventually, even Remon gives in and begins to make suggestions over themes she'd enjoy. Chikaru, standing at the head of the clubroom, is at a loss as she tries to calm the girls before her. However, the quietest of the group has yet to divulge her idea.

Standing petite even to the first years Kaede and Misato, the girl keeps to herself, mumbling reiterations of the suggestions already put forth. She bounces a stuffed bear in her arms, speaking through it and making her observations in its perspective.

Taking her cerulean eyes to Percival, Kagome utters the words, "We could… start a committee."

These words are precisely what the raven-haired beauty has been waiting for as she announces the creation of, "The Astraea Dance Investigations Club!", slamming down a club president marker on her desk.

The moment she does, the door to the clubroom bursts open and Shizuka marches in, leading a procession of Lulim's student body. The club now has a force to carry out its objectives. Shizuka goes to Chikaru's side, placing shades over her hazel eyes just as Chikaru does the same. They stand back to back, arms crossed and ready to begin as the whole of Lulim awaits their orders.

Nagisa and Chiyo are just about done studying for the day. Surprisingly, it is Nagisa that has been helping Chiyo with some of the French problems they'll be tackling in the coming exams. In the past year, ever since having to have Shizuma and Miyuki tutor her, Nagisa has afforded more time and effort to the subject and is much more comfortable with the language than when she was first introduced to it. Chiyo did consider another tutor, but having her Nagisa-oneesama is equivalently satisfying. Most of all, she feels pride for the transfer student. She had already respected the girl, but to see her excelling where she was weakest brings a glow to the Chiyo's azul eyes. More than ever, she hopes to grow into the sort of woman Nagisa is.

Soon after they shut their books, they are greeted by Tsubomi and a first year from Spica who she introduces as Inoue Eiko. The tiny girl makes for a good point of reference to show how much the previous first years have grown, most evidently in Chiyo who is a full five centimetres taller. However, the aspect with greater presence is the way she carries herself and how her stature has affected Tsubomi's own. Standing beside the young girl, Tsubomi exudes prominence and, though she feigned poise in the past, she never quite made it believable.

"Tsubomi-chan, who is your friend?" Nagisa asks her.

"Oh, this is…" Tsubomi begins to introduce the first year, trailing her sentence to allow her to introduce herself.

"My name is Inoue Eiko, a first year of Spica. It's nice to meet my senpai's friends." The blonde greets with a polite bow.

"It's nice to make your acquaintance, Eiko-chan. My name is…" Nagisa replies.

Eiko would interrupt her as Tsubomi had already told her about her friends. "I know who you are already, Nagisa-sama. Tsubomi-senpai has told me all about her friends from Miator and I am honoured to have met you and Chiyo-san."

"Tsubomi… senpai?" Both the Miator girls question.

"Yes, Tsubomi-senpai has been a great help to me and I am grateful she's given me so much of her time." Eiko replies.

"That's a different Tsubomi than we're used to, right Nagisa-oneesama?" Chiyo muses with a light chuckle, alarming her pink-haired peer, "She used to be the one hovering around Hikari-san."

Nagisa shares her giggle, adding, "But I think she can still be as defensive."

"I am only being a model upperclassman and helping those junior to me as they might need it." Tsubomi defends, being successfully caught in the Miator girls' trap.

"There it is!" Chiyo gloats.

"Eiko-chan shows promise and as a responsible student of Spica, I should cultivate that talent." Tsubomi retorts, blushing profusely.

"We're only teasing, Tsubomi-chan." Nagisa says, patting the girl's back, "It is wonderful that you are providing for a first year the experiences Hikari-chan and Yaya-chan offered to you."

"Oh, I would love to know more about how Tsubomi-senpai was when she was a first year." Eiko admits, her eyes glowing, hands clasped in front of her as she listens intently.

"We could tell you all about that, Eiko-chan." Nagisa tells her.

"In great detail! Especially the embarrassing parts!" Chiyo continues, lifting her finger to put the exclamation on her words.

Eiko nods with enthusiasm and follows with, "That would be amazing! I hereby invite you both to the Senkou Dance! Nagisa-sama, Chiyo-san, please accept my invitation."

Though taken aback, Nagisa smiles warmly at the girl and nods, "It would be my pleasure."

"Mine, too, Eiko-chan." Chiyo says, placing her hand over her chest.

"Wow, Eiko-chan, now that you've invited them, I think all of my friends are going to be going to the dance." Tsubomi notes, letting out a giggle.

"Well, Hikari-chan and Amane-san are the Etoile and Tamao-chan is the President of Miator so they are invited by default." Nagisa points out.

"Apart from them, there is Yaya-san then Kizuna-san, Remon-san, and Kagome-chan of Lulim." Chiyo adds.

"I heard that Kizuna-san and Remon-san befriended a Lulim first year who invited them and Kagome-chan." Tsubomi informs them.

"If it wasn't that, I'm sure any girl associated with Chikaru-sama would be invited to the dance." Nagisa muses.

"Isn't that a fact." Tsubomi giggles, joining in as Eiko continues to stand in amazement of her seniors.

"So, Tsubomi-chan, who invited Yaya-chan?" Nagisa asks.

"AaaAaaAah…" Yaya sings as she finishes her voice exercises.

Though she finds herself within the confines of the church once more, she only uses the structure for its acoustic resonance this time. The church provides her with a better sense of her vocal quality, allowing her to fine tune it before she is to perform. Naturally, this is merely what she tells herself. In reality, coming to the church is in regards to the new occurrences in Yaya's life. It seems she may not be a third wheel forever, though what intentions the first year Asuka had for her, she dares not chance a guess. Strangely, she feels a bit of dread when she thinks about that girl, something alien to her. Yaya has never shrunk in the face of a challenge in her life, but there was just something about that girl…

"And then there's you." She mouths, noticing the spy in her midst.

Behind a row of benches peeks out the head of one silver-maned fifth year. She dusts herself off casually and runs a hand through her hair before clearing her throat and making her way down the aisle. She applauds Yaya the whole way to the altar, though the piercing ambers glaring back at the girl likely means the singer isn't very receptive of the praise.

"Bravo, Yaya. Your eagle eyes are a match to your angelic voice." Makoto compliments.

Yaya raises an eyebrow in suspicion, "Trying to poison me with flattery? Not your usual tactic, Kusanagi."

"Tactic? What could you possibly mean, my dear Yaya?" Makoto continues her ploy, moving up to stand face-to-face with her rival.

"Could you be that hopeless?" Yaya replies, crossing her arms, "What do you want anyway?"

"This upcoming Senkou Dance. What does it mean to you, Yaya?" Makoto asks her.

"The dance? I've already been invited." Yaya easily replies, starting to lose interest as she makes her way to a stained window.

"As have I. That's not my question, though." The fifth year presses, turning to face Yaya's back, but remaining where she stands.

"It's a dance. What should it mean to me?" Yaya responds, returning Makoto's gaze as she speaks, but going back to the window afterward.

"Spring is in full bloom now, but you seem to need a bigger push. What is it you lack? Water? Soil? Or perhaps… the sunlight?" The short-haired girl states, making certain implications.

"Hikari already has her prince." Yaya fires back.

"Interesting you'd jump to such a conclusion. Haven't moved on as much as we'd like, dear?" Makoto remarks, having seized her victory.

"As if I could miss such poorly crafted insinuations." Yaya replies, letting off a huff.

"Then, you were humouring me? I'm honoured."

"Don't be." Yaya immediately retorts.

"Poor Yaya. Never fear, the sunlight you're lacking is about to rise. Now we must hope you'll be strong enough to receive it and grow." Makoto tells her, taking her leave.

Yaya scoffs, "I think I've grown plenty."

"Oh, there's no doubt, but there's still a ways to go…" The words leave Yaya confused, but in her defiance, she simply ignores this.

Kaname senses a disturbance in the air. She currently sits at a desk in the Miator library, head resting on her arm as she stares at the equations in her book. She must admit she is hardly concerned about the exams. Progress has been slow on her end and the upcoming events won't help matters. Though exams have never troubled Shizuka, there is nothing Kaname can do with them to incite action from them. The same could be said of the summer. In their six years at the school, Kaname has not known Shizuka to attend summer school or stay during holiday. Actually, of the two rivals Kaname possesses, only Amane ever stays during the summer, tending to her horse.

Spica's goal is to acquire the greatest talent from across Japan. In doing so, it will build strong leaders, trained in contemporary thinking for the new age under the Heisei emperor. Normally, women of such pedigree would be naturally drawn to the school, but, as Kaname believes, the best of them have always been led astray. These individuals must be drawn back into the fold, set on their proper path as Kaname had done with Amane the year prior.

Still, Kaname frowns, "This Senkou Dance idea of the Etoile is troublesome. It will interfere with Shizuka as she retreats from audiences."

However, an idea arrives. While direct application of the Senkou Dance would not work to her advantage, she'd seen Shizuka's competitive nature. Regardless of her desire to perform before those in attendance, she shouldn't back down from a challenge by a rival. If maneuvered the right way, Kaname could potentially use the dance to her ends. Precision will be key.

Author's Note: Is it only me or does a new club for Chikaru to play with where practically the whole of Lulim has joined sound too good to be true for her? Oh, Shizuka, how do you do it? =p Of course, it might be counter intuitive to have a club consisting of all the students of Lulim working together to brainstorm for a dance, which is supposed to bring them together anyway. O_o Methinks Lulim is ahead in the race. xD Then again, the common drama that has persisted in Miator and Spica always seems to elude Lulim. o_O Perhaps they're just better grounded. x)

I must say, the budding relationship between Misato and Kaede was a surprise, even for me. xD I actually hadn't a single scene of their interacting in my outlines and Kaede was actually going to be a minor character, given any attention at all only to be a mechanism for explaining why Kizuna, Remon, and Kagome would be attending the dance. =p

Anyway, the stage seems set and the schemers are all poised and ready to use the dance to further those schemes. Will they work out? Will their targets catch on? After all, they are being soooooo subtle about it. xD Well, first they'll have to pass their exams. =p Oh, and none of the planning for the dance has come to any result. Then there's always just whose window Amane was staring at. oO Wonder what that was all about.
