"Oh god." Greg sighed, rubbing a frustrated hand across his forehead. "Umm yeah... I just... I thought my boss would of talked to you."
"What about Mr. Sanders?"
"I w..." He started, stopping only to clear his throat. "I was looking to adopt Hannah."
"Well that's very admirable of you Mr. Sanders but we have to exhaust all other options before we can even think of adoption."
"Oh." He suddenly felt as if the wind had been knocked out of him.
"Now if you could take me to Ms. Mclure."
"Umm...yeah follow me."

"Hey." Sara grinned, anticipation, anxiety, and eagerness moving back to the front of her mind as he stepped through the door, her smile dropping seeing his downed look. "What's wrong?"
Clearing his throat, Greg sighed, his eyes on the floor. "Ms. Simons... of DCFS is just behind me..." Swallowing the lump that sat in his throat, trying in vain, to stop the tears that were flowing from his eyes. "...she's here to take Hannah."
"What? But I thought you were going to adopt her?"
"The state has to do there job first..." He sneared, crossing his arms over his chest, his sadness disappearing into anger. "...then MAYBE I can."
"Aww Greg." Sara bit her lip, her hand reaching out to comfort him. Surprise etched her her features as he backed away from her touch.
"I'm going in the other room... I can't see this..." Tears clouded his vision as he backed away. "...tell Hannah... tell Hannah I love her."
Watching him walk to his room, Sara's heart broke. He was so sad. Hearing a knock on the door, she sighed, turning to open it.
"Hi I'm sorry, I'm looking for Greg Sanders?" The sparkly blonde said, as the door opened wider, her hand fidgeting on the computer bag on her shoulder.
"Umm he's indisposed right now. I'm his co-worker... I'm pretty up to speed on the case."
"So then you know I'm here for Ms. Mclure?"
"Umm yes..." Sara stuttered, chewing nervously at her nail. "Can I ask you... what can Greg do to adopt her?"
Shaking her head at the odd question, Jane snickered. "Well generally, in any adoption, we have to do an extensive background check, check their home life and family history. Marital status does help, we don't really look at singles for adoption."
"Oh."
Trying to lighten the mood slightly, the DCFS worker changed the subject. "Can you take me to Ms. Mclure?"
"Oh uhh yeah." Sara tried to wrack her brain for what, if anything, that she could do to change this as she walked the worker to the little girl.

The group cringed hearing the slam of one of the many lab doors. Greg was at work.
It had been nearly a week since the state of Nevada had taken custody of Hannah and Greg was not happy. Not by a long shot. Between huffs and puffs and door slams, everyone knew Greg was on a war path and no one wanted to be in his way.
Grissom, having seen the young man's anger, put him on cold case duty until he could calm down and get his anger in check, enough to work in his DNA lab or out in the field.
So that's how Greg sat in the lay out room, manila case folders surrounding him, a despondent look on his face.
Sara, knowing that this was his temporary home, bolted into the room, out of breathe from running from her car. "Greg!"
"Hey speedy..." He sighed, his sad eyes never leaving the paperwork in front of him. "I'm busy."
"I think... I know... how you can get Hannah back."
Stunned, he turned to her, shock written across his features. "What? How?"
Totally out of breathe, she said the two words that seemed to make time stop. "Marry me?"
R&R... sorry for the shortness of this chap. On a side note this story is making feel a bit weird since I named my daughter Hannah too
