Chapter 10: Birthday

Olivia sat in the dark bathroom with only candle light flickering. She closed her eyes tight as she attempted to relax. But she was going out of her mind. She hadn't been put on call tonight and she hated sitting around even if it was her birthday. Elliot had been extremely testy with her and she wasn't sure why. It seemed ever since she started seeing Alex, their friendship was like walking on eggshells. She didn't even know why she was with Alex. He was nice but it was weird. She sighed and got out of the tub.

She walked into her room. She laughed subconsciously at the fact that Elliot had forgotten her birthday. Alex was working and she was alone on her 46th birthday. She quickly dressed into lacy black and light purple booty shorts and a white tank top.

She went to the kitchen and poured herself a glass of wine, hoping that'd help relax her. She was half tempted to go to Elliot's and hit him for forgetting. She never forgot anything of his...then again she cared more.

She fell into her couch and turned Netflix on hoping to find a scary movie or something exciting. She settled with some ghost movie that looked promising. She was about to hit play when someone knocked.

She opened her front door and saw Elliot stand there with an ice cream cake and Chinese.

"They took forever to decorate the cake." He said pushing his way inside.

She closed her door and turned around crossing her arms. He looked at her.

"What?" He asked as he walked to put the cake away.

"How did you know I wouldn't have plans? Maybe a romantic date with Alex or some hot steamy shower birthday sex?"

He laughed. "I knew he worked tonight. I also know that as much as you scowl, you aren't getting hot steamy anything."

She rolled her eyes and sat down. She hit play on the movie ignoring Elliot. He fell down onto the couch beside her. He looked over at her, looking her up and down.

"The girl discovers her father's house his haunted by his spirt and then devils take over her body." Elliot said looking at the screen.

She threw her hands up and turned her tv off.

"Thank you for ruining the movie, ass."

He laughed and looked up at the ceiling. He sighed and looked over at her.

"How are you and Alex by the way?"

"I honestly don't know. We sort a just have a professional thing going on. So he comes over and we have sex and then when I wake up, he's gone. Normally this would be something I'm fine with. But I just am tired of all the games. I am 46 and this is not where I expected to be. I wanted kids and marriage."

He raised an eye brow.

"Wanted?"

"C'mon El, I'm too old for kids and no one wants to settle and the person I pictured spending my life with let me down a while ago..."

"You are not too old and I didn't know you were seeing someone before...it had to be serious if you pictured a life with him." He said bit on his bottom lip.

She let out a breathy sigh and sucked in her bottom lip. She normally always did this when she was thinking. He always thought it was one of the adorable things about her.

"Well, I wasn't really seeing him. He doesn't know. It's...confusing, difficult really."

"Really sounds like it." He laughed. "So why haven't you told this guy?"

"He's married and has a family...well he's divorced now but I still have anxiety about the whole thing."

Elliot looked at her. He was starting to piece certain details about this guy he's never heard of. But the guy started to seem more and more familiar has she talked about him. He looked down at his hands and sighed.

"I've let you down. I'm divorced and have a family..." He bit at his lip.

She sighed and nodded. He just looked at her, still trying to understand this whole thing.

"You pictured a life with me...wow. I..." He was at a lost with words.

He wasn't really sure what to say or how he was supposed to respond. Everyone knew he cared about Olivia in more than a professional way. He thought she even knew that.

"Elliot we don't have to talk about it. It's in the past. Can we call it a night please?"

She stood up and started walking to her room. He followed her in the room.

"Liv, no you don't get to get out of this!" He said.

She didn't talk she just threw the small decorative pillows off her bed. He sighed and leaned against her door way.

"Olivia talk to me goddamn it!" He yelled.

She jumped at the tone he was using. She looked at him.

"El I'm tired. I want to go to bed. Leave."

He walked over to her bed and grabbed her arm. She looked at him and they stayed like that for a while until he crashed his mouth onto hers. He pushed her up against the wall still kissing her. He pinned her arms up as he kissed down her neck to her chest. He moved back up to her mouth. She moaned in his mouth as he ran his hands all over. He grabbed her ass. She bit at his bottom lip. She pushed him away.

"Damn it."

"You okay?" Elliot asked.

She poked at his chest and shoved him.

"No! You just oh my god. I want to kill you. I should shoot you right in the face! Ugh!"

He looked at her and she sighed.

"And stop looking at me like that!"

He cupped her face.

"El."

He kissed her softly.

"Happy birthday Liv."
