Chapter 10

I know it's been a while but, it's here now. Thanks for following this story!

"Mom. I'm home are you here?" Sam asked as he walked in through the front door.

"Yeah in here sweetheart." Sam's mother responded.

Sam walked into the dining room and saw his mother setting the stable.

"Hey, what's going on?"

"You're father and I are hosting a dinner party tonight" she explained as she straightened out the table cloth

"Yeah? who's coming?" Sam asked as he grabbed some plates to help set the table.

"Just a few of you're father's associates and their families"

"I have to get the children's table area set up so the twins will have somewhere to sit with their little friends."

"Do I have to come?" he asked as he placed the plates.

"You're father expects you to be sitting at the head of the table next to him Sam."

Sam rolled his eyes. "Mom please don't tell me it's that kind of dinner party."

"It is, so make sure you wear your suit and tie and I expect you to be on time for dinner. You need to make a good impression as always."

"Let me guess, Quinn is coming." he sighed.

"Yes she is. "

Sam stopped what he was doing.

"Mom, I have a girlfriend-"

"You need to talk to your father about this sweetheart. It's really not my place." she interrupted

"Fine." Sam said.

Sam stormed out of the dining room and headed up stairs to his fathers office.

"Dad, we need to talk about this Quinn thing."

"I know what you are thinking son, and I'm sure that whomever you are seeing right now is a nice girl, but you need to understand that it is only temporary."

"What do you mean temporary?"

"I mean, that I've made some arrangements and in the future you will see to it that Quinn will be the on who you will share your life with."

Sam stood there shocked.

"Are you telling me that you've set me up with an arranged marriage?"

"Yes. And in the near future I expect for you to propose to her like a gentleman should."

"This is insane. Do you have any idea what year this is? Who still does arranged marriages anymore?"

"Her father and I have become good friends. He believes you are worthy enough for his daughter. Not only are you two a good match but our families together would make a great alliance. It's good business son."

"I'm not taking over the business dad!"

"YES YOU ARE! It's in your blood. I don't trust another to take over. I have to make sure my family is well taken care of after I'm gone and who better to do that than my own son. It's tradition!"

"Dad-"

"SILENZIO! Tonight I want you on your best behavior with Quinn and her parents. Now, with this girl you are seeing, I will let you have your little fun with her for now but you will end things when I say so. Do I make my myself clear?"

Sam didn't say anything

"Samuel! Rispondere, quando tuo padre è parlante!"

"Sì papà"

A few hours later

The guest started to arrive and Sam tried to make as little contact as possible. Sam's mother could see how agitated he looked. She quickly ended her conversation with a guest to talk to her son.

"Samuel, I understand that you are not happy about the current situation but you need to buck up. I will not have you spoiling this dinner. " she whispered.

" Yes mother."

" Now fix your tie and mingle a little." She plastered on a fake smile and walked away to talk to another guest as Sam straighntend his tie.

Sam was then greeted by Ryder.

" Hey Sam."

" Hey Ryder."

" You talk to your dad?"

" Sure did. "

" How'd it go?"

" Not good man. "

" Sorry to hear that."

" You know what? This really sucks man. My entire future is planned out for me down to who I marry and there is nothing I can do about it."

" The old man wasn't too happy about your chocolate goddess huh?"

" I didn't even get to tell him that part. He was too busy yelling at me about taking over the business and marrying Quinn. It doesn't matter anyway I'll have to break up with Mercy soon anyways. How am I suppose to tell the girl I'm in love with that I can't see her anymore because I'm promised to someone else?"

" Look Sam that's rough I get it but you've got to understand that you're not alone in this. All the guys are being asked to step up including me. There is a new generation of leaders coming in and we just have to make the most of it. Quinn's not so bad. Maybe you should just give it a shot. The less conflict the better."

" I hope your right."

" Speaking of the devil herself."

In walked Quinn and her parents. Quinn had definitely dressed to impress.

" Dude I understand your're in love with Mercedes and everything, but good gawd I don't think marrying Quinn instead wouldn't be a bad trade off don't you think?" Ryder said as he eyed Quinn.

" I'll admit that Quinn is beautiful but she is no Mercedes."

Sam's phone started to buzz.

" And that's my girl right now. I'm gonna take this outside."

" Cool man, I'll keep an eye on Quinn for you."

Sam chuckled. He walked outside to the backyard patio.

" Hey babe." He answered.

" Hey Sammy. How you doing?"

" Okay I guess."

" What's wrong baby?"

" My dad and I sorta got into it today?"

" Is everything okay?" She questioned

" It's fine just family stuff is all."

" I wish I was there with you. I could definitely take your mind off of things." she said seductively.

" Oh yeah? how?" Sam smiled

" Well first I would-"

" Well hello there Samuel."

Quinn snuck up behind Sam and wrapped her arms around him.

" Quinn what are you doing out here?" He said surprised.

" Sam?" Mercedes questioned.

" Hang on for a sec."

Mercedes could overhear their voices.

Quinn stop it

*giggles*

" Sam who is that?" Mercedes asked irritated.

" Um, no one, look I have to go."

" But Sam I-"

Sam hung up

" Quinn what are you doing out here? I thought you were with Ryder?" He questioned.

"Oh him? He was easy to get rid of" She said as she wrapped her arms around his neck.

"Quinn stop, I have a girlfriend." He explained as he moved her hands to her sides.

" So what? you're gonna dump her anyway. She is just a little college fling, while I'm your future wife."

" Quinn, do you realize how crazy you sound."

" I don't sound crazy Sam. Our families have been discussing this for months and both agree that it is best for business that we marry. Besides, you've always had a crush on me. You will finally get what you want."

" What I want is Mercedes."

" And I want you, and our parents want this marriage."

" Well the feeling isn't mutual." Sam said and he walked away.

You'll change your mind eventually Quinn thought.

Sam walked back into the house and saw the guest starting to be seated. He caught Ryder as he was taking his seat.

" Dude, I thought you were going to keep an eye on Quinn."

" The girl is determined. Nothing I could do."

Sam rolled his eyes and went to take his seat by his father.

" You and Quinn must have had an interesting conversation. I saw her follow you outside." his father smiled.

" Not now dad." Sam whispers.

Across the table, Quinn takes her seat. She takes a glance at Sam and winks. Sam rolls his eyes. Oh please Sam thought.

Dwight stood up to greet his guest. With a clink of his glass, he began his speech.

" My family and I would like to thank everyone for coming tonight. It is always a pleasure to break bread with family and friends. It has been a tough couple of years, but to see all these bright young men, especially my eldest son, stepping up to fulfill the legacy we've built makes it all worth while."

Dwight raised his glass.

" To success!" He toasted.

" To success!" The guest responded.

It's gonna be a long night Sam thought.

Well, that's the end of this chapter. Thanks for reading! Please comment.
