The day of their departure to Hogwarts was eating away the number of remaining days they had left within number twelve, Grimmauld Place.

Edward had to admit, over this course of time, that he was indeed very excited and both anxious. He had never encountered magic before and never expected it to turn out as he witnessed during his stay.

Sweeping his hair behind his shoulder, he reached for his back pocket, and pulled out the wand he received at the wand shop they stopped at during their visit to the marketplace of what said was Diagon Alley.

He ran his left arm over the wooden delicately decorated stick, the man that ran the store,

Ollivander, told him it was specially made by experimenting with a the hair of a wolf who adventures his own path as well as a single feather of a dove entwined with elder.

Ed, looking to option out of receiving one, was deeply moved though by the warmth and connection the wand had the first time it contacted his skin. He was speechless upon receiving it and didn't even realize Ollivander had decided to give it to him for free, until after they left the store.

Sighing he tucked the wand back away from where he pulled it from. He still had a lot of work to accomplish if he wanted to make the thing work properly.

"Come off it!" the voices of both Harry and Ron echoed from the second story below the staircase Ed was relaxing on. Curious Edward leaned on his knees in order to get a better hear of what they were saying, until a single tap on his shoulder startled him.

Quicking turning around, hands ready at a clap, he was confronted with the mischievous grins of the the Weasley twins. "Gosh Eddy boy! If you wanted to eavesdropped let us know mate!" George whispered to him the grin never leaving his face as he sat next to Ed.

"Yeah!" Fred pitched in, in a quiet tone. "Do you think we invented the Extendable Ears for nothing?" He sat one step above Ed and his brother and hoverd the wiggling ears attached to both ends of the string.

Edward rolled his eyes at them and hissed "Because you charge me every time that I do! Plus I coincidentally caught hold of their conversation!"

George and Fred looked at each other amusement present on both their identical faces and together they whispered, "Right, well no problem mate. For we were coincidentally passing by and coincidentally wanted to test out our new model!"

"New model?" Edward questioned slowly taking one of the wiggling ears from Fred.

"Yeah." George whispered inching a little closer he added, "Our mother ruined all the others, we plan to have a joke shop, but she doesn't approve."

Ed was going to respond back when Fred cut him off, "Edsters we won't get to listen if you keep asking questions! Do it later mate!" Fred waved at them to placed the ear to theirs and reluctantly he did so.

Ed wasn't going to lie sometimes magic might be for useful in this types of cases.

"So you think he's touched in the head?" Harry's voice rang clear through the ear, his tone seeming not very happy.

"No, I just think he's been very lonely for a long time," Hermione responded back simply.

Ed glanced over a George who mouth, "Sirius."

He nodded his head, Hermione's statement was right, as the day drew nearer Sirius was obviously faking his happiness, and was avoiding everyone including Harry by locking himself up in the room two doors down from Ed, along with the winged Chimera known as Buckbeak.

All three teens flinched at the sound of Mrs. Weasley's voice.

"Still not finished?" she said the floor creaking with her movement.

"I thought you might be here to tell us to have a break!" Ron responded bitterly. "D'you know how much mold we've got rid of since we arrived here?"

"You were so keen to help he Order, Mrs. Weasley scoffed, "you can do your bit by making the headquarters fit to live in. Also I don't see Edward or you brothers complaining about the chores they received, so you shouldn't either!"

"I feel like a house-elf," the grumbled tone of Ron's voice echoed.

"Well, now that you understand what dreadful lives they lead, perhaps you'll be more active in S.P.E.W!" Hermione's voice hopefully exclaimed, however the ear Ed was holding violently broke free of his grip and flopped over his lap, cutting of what Hermione was going to say next.

"What happened?" Ed asked handing the motionless ear to Fred, who looked both confused and panicked.

Quickly standing he pulled George by the arm and simply stated, "Trouble is on her way that's what, I guess we've been to quite." Looking at Ed Fred quickly said, "Ed could you cover for us mate? We got to hide this before our mom see's."

"Sure, one quick question though." Ed said standing he wiped his hands on his pants.

Fred and George gave him an exasperated look of despair, and Ed laughed while saying,

"You guys do you chores? I'm impressed."

Both twins suddenly grinned and laughed as well, "Come off it Eddo! It's not like we want to, however it makes good research and experimental material for our products, especially the Doxy's."

"Haha no worries I understand what you mean." Ed replied smiling still evident on his face.

The floor boards suddenly started to creak warning of Mrs. Weasley's ascend upstairs, Ed quickly shooed the twins away as the smiling face of Mrs. Weasley came into view.

"Ah Edward dear! You look well today! Were you able to get all you belongings okay? I apologize for the delay of their arrival, so many of the children got similar items. The booklist though doesn't come until later unfortunately."

Edward chuckled lightly and reassuring Mrs. Weasley he responded, "Yeah it was no problem Mrs. Weasley I should be thanking you instead of you kindness while I am here."

Mrs. Weasley waved him off cheerfully, "By the way...Have you seen the twins around? I need their help in the third guest room below."

Ed pulled of one of his best fake smiles and cheerfully said, "I think I saw them in the drawing room downstairs, if I remember." Ed felt bad for giving Mrs. Weasley wrong information after her kindness, but the twins gave him a favor it was to make for it.

patted his shoulder lightly and said, "Thank you deary." And back downstairs she went.

Later that evening Edward went downstairs and was sitting on Harry's bed, in the bedroom both he and Ron were sharing during the holidays. He was all packed up and ready to go in his own bedroom double checking that everything was picked up off the floor.

His brother and Winry would have been proud. Flipping over the page in the book he was reading on the schools foundations and structure, Harry was sweeping up his owl, Hedwigs owl dropping from the top of his wardrobe, when Ron entered carrying a couple of envelopes.

"Booklists have arrived," he said throwing one of the envelopes to Harry, who was standing on a chair and to Edward after he thrown his book aside.

"Alright! I really been looking forward to this list!" Edward said eyes shining brightly.

"About time. I thought they'd forgotten, they usually come much earlier than this…" Harry said at the same time. Placing his letter to the side for a moment Harry finished sweeping up the last of the droppings into the rubbish bag.

"Ed I still can't believe you were looking forward to that of all things. Seriously you should tell Hermione to give up S.P.E.W and to start a book club or something." Ron sighed shaking his head looking at them.

They stared at one another in silence before roaring with laughter.

Ed wiped his eyes still chuckling he tossed a pillow to Ron and said, "You never know maybe we might collab it or something."

Harry burst out laughing once more causing Ed and Ron to be drawn in as well.

Stepping down from the chair he tossed the bag to Ed, "Heads up." He called to him.

Edward paused in the motion of opening the letter caught the flying back and chucked it over Ron's head into the waste basket in the corner, that swallowed it whole and belched loudly.

Edward suppressed a shudder, it reminded him of Gluttony in a way. "Of all the magic things,"he told Harry as they opened their letters, "I think that's among one of the things I won't get used to."

Harry gave a soft chuckled and glanced at the two parchments in his hands, the first one was the usual reminder of the starting of the term, and the others the books that he required for this year. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Ed at the same time received similar letters as Harry but a small note with his name on it caught his attention. Opening it he recognized the small neat cursive writing as their employer Albus Dumbledore.

Dear Mr. Elric I am happy to hear you are enjoying your stay, however please do not forget your task at hand. I can assist with any magical troubles while you are here as well as the other faculty members. Upon your arrival please come join me in my office, I have something of importance to discuss. Until then please look forward to your stay at Hogwarts Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Albus Dumbledore.

Ed furrowed his eyebrows in thought, he would meet Dumbledore as suggested without hesitation however, glancing over at Harry he noticed him still looking over the second letter.

"What's that one for?" Ed asked curiously setting back down on the bed.

"Hmm? Oh! It's the booklist remember? Only two new ones," looking back down he read off. "The Standard Book of Spells Grade 5, by Miranda Goshawk and Defensive Magical Theory by Wilbert Slinkhard.

"Slinkhard?" Ed repeated back, "I feel like I heard that name before somewhere."

Harry took one of the empty stools across from Ed and sat down on it facing him, "Really? Hmm…maybe it's a common name?" He questioned uncertainly.

"Maybe, however I don't recall ever meeting someone with that last name." Looking at Harry's confused expression he added on, "In the military we address ourselves by our last names so much it's like calling us in our first normally. But even so when my brother and I traveled together we never meet someone like that."

Harry nodded in understanding, "Oh? You have a brother?"

"Yeah he's younger than me though by a year, he's currently recovering from an accident we were involved in when we were younger." Ed's face darkened a little after.

Harry not noticing said," That's really cool I never…"

Crack

Fred and George Apparated right beside Harry. Ed was very caught off guard he leaped up onto his feet and cursed slightly under his breath. Harry by know was so used to this he was able to stay on the stool he was setting on.

"Colorful language there Eddo." George said humorously.

Ed rolled his eyes and plopped on the floor instead shooting a look at him he retorted, " I so glad, I always wanted to be part of the electromagnetic spectrum."

George laughed, " I don't even know what that means!"

Ed felt his jaw drop, "What are you serious? Visible lights ring a bell?"

"Nope mate not one bit, I have never attended a muggle school before or classes."

"You concern me sometimes."

"Thanks haha!"

Ed puffed at him and sat by Harry once again, "Can't believe he has no idea of the spectrum."

Harry laughed and set his letter aside and responded, "A lot of people are like that, most are raised by wizardry families."

Ed stared at Harry with astonishment as George once again cut in, "Hey did you guys check out the booklist?"

"Yeah," Harry said simply as he grabbed the letter again.

George then continued, " Dumbledore's found a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher."

"About time too," Fred commented walking closer to Ed.

Fred frowned as he glanced over Ed's shoulder at the letter. "That probably explains the new authors, I mean who does this teacher think their doing by choosing Wilbert Slinkhard of all people."

George answered their questioning looks, " We looked through another book of his, and it's at our house, however this one is a cookbook."

Fred groaned in response, "Merlin that book is a nightmare, during the holidays mums tied up in either Slinkhard or Celestina Warbeck." Looking at Ed he added, "She's a type of singer on the radio.

Edward's attention was caught on the work cookbook as George has mentioned it seemed so vaguely familiar that he…

"Wait Fred what d'you mean?" Harry asked standing up to pull up some more chairs.

Fred blinked for a moment before understanding, "Well, we overheard Mum and Dad talking on the Extendable Ears a few weeks back," Fred told Harry as both George and Ed listened in, "and from what they were saying, Dumbledore was having trouble finding anyone to do the job this year.

"Not surprising, is it, when you look what's happened to the last four?" said George resting his head on his hands.

Ed then piped in, "What do you mean by that exactly? Is the job difficult to handle or something?"

"One sacked, one dead, one's memory removed, and one locked in a trunk for nine months." said Harry, counting off on his fingers.

Ed furrowed his eyebrow as he ran over what Harry said, "Yeah, I see what you mean now, by truth, locked up in a trunk? For nine months?" Ed questioned looking at him.

Harry simply shrugged his shoulders and casted his eyes towards the wall, when Fred answered instead.

"Ah it was Moody, that happened to."

"Explains a lot…" Ed sighed remembering his first encounter with the man. However know as Ed thought it over he started to grow a deep respect and understanding of the man, things life tends to throw across in your way sometimes

Suddenly Ron's voice gave a startled shout of disapproval and shock. They were also startled by the noise and Fred and George walked over to him.

"Whats up with you, Ron?" asked Fred.

Ron did not answer. Harry looked around as did Ed, for Ron was standing very still with his mouth slightly open, gaping at his letter from Hogwarts.

"What's the matter?" Fred said impatiently, moving around Ron and glanced over his shoulder at the parchment.

"What do you have…." Fred trailed off. Glancing over his younger brother's shoulder he was stunned with shock.

His mouth fell open too.

"Perfect

"I-I don't…" Looking at Harry Ron quietly said trembling, "I thought it be you."

"What?" Harry asked standing up he grabbed the letter from George, Edward watched closely as Harry's face darkened a little and his eyes flashed with unreadable emotion.

Eyes wide with disbelief in which soon George echoed, Fred whispered "I can't believe this, there is no way that you…

Ron opened his mouth to speak when the door slammed open, poping through the familiar figure of Hermione.

"..is a Prefect!" She finished happily showcasing her letter above her head proudly with eyes overflowing with joy.

Seeing the letter in Harry's hands, Hermione let out a loud squeal of excitement and delight.

"Oh Harry!" She said happily, "I knew you would get it too!" She held up a similar letter so they could see.

Harry blinked in confusion, "No Hermione...Ron received the letter he was just showing it to everyone too." said Harry quickly handing the letter back to Ron, who looked taken aback.

Hermione's eyes widened and her face went red with embarrassment, "O-oh...I apologize Harry, Ron,"she stuttered before going to Ron and quickly giving him a hug. "Congratulations though Ron! Don't forget to read the entire letter, so...um" She awkwardly tug her long sleeved shirt before going to the door.

"I'll see you guys at dinner then!" said Hermione who's voice was a few pitches higher than before.

It was silent for a moment before the twins turned in unison and both of them stared towards Harry and Edward.

"We thought you were a cert!" said Fred in a tone of disbelief.

"We thought Dumbledore was bound to pick you!" said George indignantly.

Edward sighed, feeling a headache come on he responded back, "Things happen sometimes that don't go in ways as expected. Dumbledore probably has his reason as of why he didn't choice Harry to be this...um...Perfect."

"I understand this..however…" Fred looked at the silent Harry. "Winning the Triwizard and everything!" He added on.

George gave his twin a look, Edward had seen several times from Alphonse when he overstep something. "I suppose all the mad stuff must've counted against him." said George to Fred.

"Yeah," said Fred slowly. "Yeah, you've caused too much trouble mate. Well, at least one of you's got their priorities right."

Ed winced in understanding the emotions Harry must be facing at the moment. He went over and gave a clap on the back to reassure him.

Harry looked sideways at Edward, his eyes spoke so much pain and anger Ed was a bit taken aback by. For Harry never seemed like the individual who deserved to go through this, for there in general was no person who deserved it.

Edwards saw Fred give Ron a scathing look, "Perfect..ickle Ronnie the perfect…"

"Oh, Mom's going to be revolting," groaned George in response, and Ed glared at him for the comment. For some reason the comment got under his skin a little.

"What is a Perfect anyways?" Ed asked curiously.

The twins rolled their eyes and said in unison, "A git, at least most of them not all, who thinks they have complete control over everyone."

"Seriously?" Ed asked looking at Ron and studying him to see if he might be like that.

"Kinda...however basically it's someone who kinda keeps everyone in check, like following the rules or what not." Harry said confirming it for Ed.

"I see..I see." said Edward nodding his head. He scrunched up his face, "By truth...that must be annoying sometimes."

George groaned again loudly, "Merlin tell me about it…."

The door suddenly opened a little wider and Mrs. Weasley backed into the room carrying a pile of freshly laundered robes.

She smiled at all of them as she placed the pile on the bed, "Ginny said the booklist had come at last."

"Oh thank you all mighty being!" Edward said elated, the booklist finally arrived, that meant to him that he could get farther ahead and gain more research in the magic land he was residing in.

George gave him a bewildered look and shook his head sighing.

"If you boys have them and want to give them to me, I can stop by Diagon Alley this afternoon and get your books for you, while you're packing." She continued before pausing and looking over what seemed to be a pair of pajamas.

"Goodness Ron, I need to get you another pair, this is a least six inches too short. What color would you like?" She said motherly as she placed Harry's clothes on his bed.

The twins smirked evilly at each other and George spoke up, "Get him, red and gold to match his badge."

"His what?" Mrs. Weasley asked not really paying attention handing Edward his own pile of new clothes he never seen before.

"His badge," said Fred again crossing his arms. "His lovely shiny new prefect's badge."

Edward covered his mouth to hide a chuckle arising, it wouldn't be right to laugh at the moment he concluded to himself.

As Fred's words sunk into Mrs. Weasley, George snatched the badge and tossed it to Edward who caught it out of reflex, and giving him a gesture to hold it up, Edward reluctantly did so.

Mrs. Weasley sputtered in shock as she stared at the badge in Edward's hands, who handed it over to her to look. Before she let out a louder shriek than Hermione's.

"I don't believe it! I don't believe it! Oh, Ron how wonderful! A perfect! That's everyone in the family!

Fred and George snarled at this before George bravely spoke up, "What are Fred and I, next-door neighbors?" as his mother slightly pushed him side to hug her youngest son.

ignored this comment as she praised Ron for his perfect letter, and promising him a reward. However during this Edward and Harry simply watched and sighed as the twins purposely made loud retching noises behind her.

Edward made a small conversation with Harry asking things about the Triwizard Tournament or Perfects mentioned earlier before he saw Fred and George exchanging looks and sweat dropped in response

"You don't mind if we give give you a kiss too, do you, Ron?" said Fred in a falsely anxious voice.

"We could curtsy, if you like," said George.

"Oh, shut up." Ron said in response scowling at them..

"Or what?" Fred coaxed with an evil grin spreading across his face. "Going to put us in detention?"

"I'd love to see him try." George sniggered with Fred.

Ed thumped George on the head, "He probably could with his authority, it seems as what Harry said, they're kinda like your superior officer or a higher rank."

"Aww Ed boy...Don't give up on me now!' George faked wailed clinging to Edward who protested in response trying to detach him.

"He does have a point," said Hermione as she reentered the room with a defiant yet happy look on her face.

Fred and George pretended to tremble, "We're going to have to watch our steps, George. With these two on our case…"

"Yeah, it looks like our law-breaking days are finally over," said George, shaking his head.

They looked at Edward, who took a small step back glaring, "Don't you even dare think about doing it, I swear you'll regret it if you do it again!"

Rushing forward they grabbed Ed and with mischievous smirks Disapparated.

"Those to I swear to Merlin! Oh poor Edward!" said Hermione furiously, staring up at the ceiling above them, which they could hear Edwards streams of curses and shouts, and the twins loud laughter.

"DON'T CALL ME SH-!" Edwards voice broke off as Hermione turned to Ron, "Don't pay attention to them Ron their just jealous!"

"I don't think they are however it okay, they always said prats become perfects, not that I am saying that I am one." He quickly added on the end, before rambling off on a happier note about a new broom, exiting afterwards he said he would be right back after letting his mom, know which one he would like her to get.

He dashed from the room quickly, leaving a silent and anxious Hermione alone.
