Hope you enjoy this chapter. I decided to make Akemi's past life take two chapters too, but it came out really interesting. Enjoy.

Chapter X: Hostile Encounters

As Airi was going through her past, Akemi was feeling a bit nervous about doing her past lifetime with Hiei. It was a little different from how Airi started out. Their first encounter was actually quite hostile to begin with since Hiei basically insulted her and she in turn insulted him. However, Hiei wanted to remember everything with Akemi. They began in silence which was mostly how they would begin their day when they were with each other. As they sat on the ground touching palms, Akemi looked into Hiei's eyes. She couldn't remember the last time she felt safe and happy while looking into her beloved's eyes. Soon a flash of light engulfed the two, and they began to drift back to the past.

Akemi's Past

Walking down the street, a young girl with beautiful long black hair was dressed in black pants, a purple blouse and flats. This young girl was called Akiko. She had a fierce personality, but she was never rude or mean to another. She was very different from the other young ladies of the 1950s. She would carry around her katana with her since she was on her way to the kendo dojo to practice her swordsmanship. At this time, the dojo technically did not allow girls to train, but the master of the dojo saw great potential within her so he made an exception for her. Akiko was starting her day like any other day. She would awaken, get dressed, and study for a while. She had never had trouble with demons or any creeps while walking to the dojo. It was clear to her though that the men of the dojo did not like her being there, but they would never do any harm to her for fear of their master's reprimanding them. Akiko knew that demons were real since she used to battle them in her past life plus her sensei would tell her about the demons that he had killed.

She changed into the standard kendo uniform for the dojo which was a white keikogi and black hakama. The hakama usually are long pants that when standing looks like a long skirt, but Akiko liked the uniform. She usually left her uniform within the dojo lockers, but she decided to practice a little longer at home and decided to wear the uniform while walking home. She had her bag of necessities and her katana around her hip while she began her journey home when a demon came out from the shadows of a small alley as she passed by. He knocked her out with one blow to the head and continued to take her to demon world with him.

As Akiko awoke from her sleep, she realized that she was within demon world and hanging on the shoulder of a demon in midflight. She took her katana and sliced the demon's head clean off from his shoulders. Now she thought that was not a good idea, because now she was falling with the body. She was lucky to have landed in a tree, but she had landed right on to another demon. She quickly jumped off and steadied herself on a branch when the demon pulled his katana out and raised it to her throat. "Who are you? A human, you are not worth my time. I should just get this over with and kill you," said this small demon dressed in black, but Akiko had already drawn her katana without the demon realizing it. She held the katana at his chest and motioned for him to look down. Hiei, the small demon, saw the blade pointed at his heart and couldn't believe that a human could have out maneuvered him. "No, demon you are not worth my time, but I won't kill you," said Akiko as she used her flash step to jump from branch to branch to reach the ground.

She finally reached the ground when she noticed that the demon was standing beside her with his blade pointed at her throat which she had her blade again pointed at his heart. "Leave me be. I want no trouble. I just want to get home," said Akiko as she took off in any direction just to get away from the demon and to find a way to get out of demon world. Hiei was not going to take this type of respect from a human. So he decided to follow her in order to kill her. She increased her speed to get away from the demon that was clearly in pursuit of her. She began to think that demons really have issues with humans disrespecting them. She began to feel really annoyed being pursued, but she didn't want to kill anyone or demons unless they clearly were going to kill another human or her life were in danger. She kept pretty much ahead of the demon as she journeyed to fine the entrance to the human world.

She was about a day's journey ahead of the demon, Hiei, while she was able to sleep, eat, and rest to begin her journey for finding the human world. Finally Akiko had about enough of being pursued by Hiei that she confronted him. She had killed other demons that surprised her when she was running to find the kekkai barrier. She knew that this barrier would be able to lead her to the human world. As she was about to confront Hiei, a big demon came crashing down on Akiko. She moved quickly out of the way, but her katana did little to actually injuring this demon. Hiei came just in time to use his fist of the mortal flame on the demon which disintegrated the demon.

"Thanks, but let me guess. You wanted to be the one to kill me instead of a low class demon?" asked Akiko as she was turning to look at her rescuer. "Smart observation or are you just a lucky fool at guessing?" asked Hiei as he continued to step towards her. "I would be careful demon. I may have miscalculated on the other demon, but I won't underestimate you. As thanks, I will fight you with everything that I have. If you die, don't blame me but your stupidity and arrogance for accepting this offer," said Akiko as she was facing down Hiei about to draw her katana. "Don't underestimate me. Your stupidity will be your end," said Hiei as he began to charge at Akiko.

The battle lasted for about a day with neither one letting down. "You're pretty strong for a human. I see that you have excellent control on your spirit energy. You have fought before even though looking so young," said Hiei as he was trying to catch his breath. "I have fought demons for thousands of years. I am not just a human, but a reincarnated human. I have to admit that you are a very strong and worthy opponent. I haven't felt this exhausted in centuries and no less from a demon. What is your name?" asked Akiko as she was trying to catch her breath and sitting on the ground.

"My name is Hiei. I have never met someone who could reincarnate. You must have strong spiritual powers. What is your name?"

"My name is Akiko. I have practiced and trained my body along with my spiritual powers for centuries. I have great control. What should we do now? Continue to fight until one of us dies or go about our separate ways?"

"I am done fighting for today, but I will continue to follow you until I kill you. You are definitely a worthy foe."

"Thanks, I guess. Well I am trying to find my way back to the human world. You wouldn't happen to know of a small breach somewhere in demon world."

"Hmph if it is human world you are looking for, you have been moving further away from where that demon brought you in."

"Oh I didn't know. How many days do you think to get back where we started?"

"You have been running deeper into demon world for about a week now."

"Oh wow that long, I didn't even notice! Oh well, I will rest and begin tomorrow."

"What if I decide to kill you tomorrow or in your sleep you think you can trust me?"

"I don't think quick deaths are your style so you won't kill me in my sleep. If you decide to fight me tomorrow then I will fight you, but he outcome will be the same."

"Hmph you never know. The result may change."

"Doubt it, but I guess we will just see."

As the two made camp in the tiny spot that they had been fighting, something began to spark between Hiei and Akiko. She didn't know what it meant, but she was sure that this feeling of excitement would continue while she was near Hiei. It had been such a long time since she had any excitement while fighting or even while just talking. Many human men had tried to pursue her while in Tokyo, but she didn't find any excitement or fun being with the guys that she went out with. She was beginning to feel something for this small demon that had a foul temper. She didn't understand why she was falling for a demon, but she knew that it would be bad if she continued to stay with him.

In her past lifetimes, Akiko had loved only one other who was a human/demon hybrid, but in the end, it led to misery and a violent end for both of them. The human men had a tendency to become rather obsessed with Akiko and that doubles for the demons that wanted to consume her for her spiritual power. She didn't know what to do, but she knew she needed to go back to the human world right away. She knew that only tragedy would wait for both Hiei and her if they fell in love with each other.
