Lucy

He had said my name. Twice. Both times I had been sure my heart would jump out of my chest, it was a miracle that it didn't really.

I stared at the screen that had turned off now. I already missed him. This couldn't be normal. I couldn't be missing a guy I only just talked to. It was true though, there was no way to deny it.

"Cinian.." I whispered again, smiling slightly. Before when I'd said it I'd felt all fuzzy inside, blushing while saying goodbye. The thought of saying it had grown a lump in my throat. I sighed and got up from the chair, putting it back where I had taken it from before heading to school with my sister. That was only two hours ago, it felt like a lifetime had passed. 'You'll be able to talk to him again tomorrow.' I told myself but that didn't help.

"Stupid me." I muttered when suddenly the port started ringing again. I jumped at the sudden shrill sound of the thing and laughed at my own stupidity. I then took a deep breath and clicked to open the port, my official coming into view.

"Hello there Lucy," she said with a smile. I smiled back. "How was your first conversation with him?" She asked me, sounding rather reserved.

I felt my smile widen into a grin nonetheless though, "Great." I told her. She smiled, keying in some things in her scanner. "What did you talk about?" I shrugged, "Lots of things. I showed him a drawing I made and we discussed how we had felt about the mix up."

She nodded and entered a few other things. "Glad to hear it's all good." She said. "You still stick with your decision?" I knew what she was talking about and nodded solemnly.

"How long can I refuse him?"I asked her. Not because I was planning to, but rather to know how long she would be asking me the same question. "Until you are married." She said without hesitating.

I grew cold from the inside. "Do you mind..." I started, she looked up interested in what I had to say. "Not asking me every time." I asked her politely. "If I choose to refuse him I'll just say so."

She narrowed her eyes but nodded anyway, "I guess we can arrange that."

I smiled gratefully, "Was that all you wanted to know?" I asked her, knowing it probably wasn't. She shook her head, told you so.

"I need to know something else." She said, still looking at her scanner. "You remember that we would make it up to you, right? For making the mistake" I nodded but she didn't see. "Yes.." I said then, annoyance in my voice. She didn't even notice.

The first time I'd met her I'd thought she was ok. She'd seemed nice. Soon I found out however that what she was, was mostly just plain annoying.

"Well we have a choice for you." She said.

I raised my eyebrows in surprise and looked at her curiously. "What can we choose?" I asked her instantly.

She seemed to not be all too happy with what I asked, I just wasn't sure why not. I hadn't said anything special right?

"You can choose between seeing him in real life, there or here, or..." she looked down at her scanner again. "Talking to him for an hour instead of half an hour every day."

I narrowed my eyes at that choice. It both sounded tempting. "When would we otherwise meet for the first time?" I asked her. She sighed and looked at her scanner again. I wanted to tell her to learn those things by heart but that probably wouldn't help me get on her good side at all.

"If you choose to see him, in two weeks and another meeting two weeks after that. Otherwise dinner is arranged for the matchees in about two months and one including parents another month later."

I listened to that. "So we would have two meetings before the actual dinner. And those two meetings are in addition to the ones already in place?"

She nodded.

"Do I have to answer now, or do I have some time to think it over?"

She looked annoyed with that question. "You can answer later." She said with another one of her signature sighs.

I nodded thanking her and turning the port off. "Stupid woman." I muttered while making my way to the kitchen to get my food for that evening. I was already imagining how tomorrow would be like, I couldn't wait.

The next day wasn't slow at all. It was suprisingly quick actually. Sarah had thousands of things to say about her conversation with Larry and I listened to her intently. That I didn't like her match did not mean I didn't like listening to her talk about him.

We also discussed the choices we'd receuved, as the both of us had gotten the same one. She said that she wanted the meetings for sure. She just had to discuss with Larry, or so her official had said. I thought it was strange that I wasn't told to discuss it, but I just wrote if off as laziness of my official.

When I got home I went straight to my mom, who I hadn't seen after yesterday morning. "Hey mom." I said, giving her a kiss. We had made up the day after the match banquet, tried to talk it out. It hadn't gone well, but at least we weren't living in silence anymore.

She grinned curiously at me. "How was it?" She asked me and I laughed. "The absolute best!" She smiled and hugged me. "Oh dear, how happy I am for you." I hugged her back. "I know mom." When we were done hugging she gestured for me to sit. I did and she gave me a cup of tea.

"Mom.." I started. She looked up lovingly, absolutely no judgement in her eyes anymore. It felt good. "When you and dad were matched. Did you.." I wasn't sure how to finish that but she seemed to already know what I was saying. "Think about him all the time?" She asked and I blushed.

Laughing she nodded, "Yes, he was in my mind every second of the day. It scared me at first but I soon figured out he was experiencing the same."

I thought about Cinian. Did he also feel the same way? Did he think about me all the time as well? My heart skipped a few beats at the thought. I would like it if he did, but asking him would be awkward as hell.

After finishing my cup of tea I went over to the game center, making sure I was back home again early. I wasn't going to be late this time, I was going to make sure of that this time.

"The call will commence in 5 minutes"

I looked up from my drawing, which I'd been working on in front of the port, and felt my stomach clench in excitement. I had been drawing the sea, or what I thought it looked like. I never could be sure because I never had seen it. Suddenly I realized that Cinian might live near the sea and made a mental note to ask him about it.

The call opened and I saw a pair of steel blue eyes appear, making my heart jump. "You look excited" He said amused.

I grinned, "I am." I told him. "You know, I was wondering something.." I said, trailing off a little. He raised an eyebrow, "Yes?" He asked me with a crooked smile that I absolutely loved.

"Do you live near the sea?"

He laughed at the sudden question and I felt myself redden, guess I should've first introduced the subject first. He nodded though, and a smile started on his lips. "I do actually." He replied then.

I was on the edge of my chair, feeling even more excited than before. "What's it like? Can you swim in it? Do you?"

He laughed again as my questions flooded him but he didn't seem to mind answering them at all.

"It's wet." he said with a wink and I rolled my eyes. "Oh really? I never would have guessed."

He smiled, shaking his head lightly. "No it's beautiful, there really is nothing like it. The waves have a blue color you don't see often, it just takes your breath away." I sighed in longing, wanting to see for myself. "And you can swim in it, I do it all the time. I used to do so in secret, the areas that hadn't been cleared for swimming, together with my brother." His face saddened a bit. It was a small change, one not easily noticed by people, somehow though the change seemed obvious to me.

I felt the need to ask for some reason, maybe because I wanted to know or maybe because I thought he wanted to tell, but I asked him nontheless.

"What was he like?" My voice was soft and for a moment I thought he hadn't heard me. When he looked up though I saw he had a glint in his eyes I hadn't ever seen before. "He was the coolest." He said then, suddenly sounding very young. "He was nice, knew what to do in every situation and he took me everywhere I wanted to go. He taught me how to swim and other things." His eyes had a pained look in them now.

"You miss him."

It wasn't a question but he nodded anyway. "Very much."

I wanted to reach out and put a hand on his, I couldn't though because he wasn't really there, and I hated that fact. "So did you talk to your match official yet?" I asked him, changing the subject in the hope he would stop looking so sad.

He seemed to appreciate it and nodded. "I have, he told me that we would know what we get to compensate the mistake made soon."

I must've looked confused because he frowned. "What's up?" I shrugged, "I talked to my official yesterday and she gave us..." I could almost feel my eyes widen at the realization. She hadn't liked my question of what we could choose and now I understood why not. It wasn't that I shouldn't ask, it was that **we** shouldn't choose. *I* should.

"Lucy?" He asked, unsure of what was happening. I locked eyes with him and frowned. "My official gave me a choice yesterday, of what we wanted as compensation. I asked her what we could choose and she gave me two options. I'm just pretty sure I was to make the decision alone according to her."

He didn't seem surprised. "What did you choose?" He asked instead.

I was staring at him now, confused. "Nothing. I wanted to ask what you wanted first."

This did seem to surprise him but he soon recovered and smiled. "What were the choices?" I shrugged his look of surprise off and grinned. "Two meetings before the official meetings or instead of half an hour port time, an hour."

He shook his head, "I don't really see the choice." He grinned, "I know what I want anyway."

I laughed and dared him with my eyes.

"Meeting." He simply said.

I wanted to squeal, jump up and down and scream. Instead I stayed seated and grinned, "I'd like that." I paused a second, "Your district or mine?" I asked him. He shrugged, "Two meetings, two districts."

I grinned, "Exactly what I was thinking."

"5 more minutes."

I looked up, surprised at the sudden voice. I hadn't even heard the 15 minute mark. His face showed the same surprise and I had to laugh. We stayed quiet for some time, just taking each other in until we had one minute left. "Thank you Lucy." He said then.

I cocked my head to the side, "what for?"

He shrugged but his eyes were anything but indifferent. They were intently staring into mine. "For giving me the oppertunity to get to know you."

I was speechless for a second and only registered the countdown from 10 too late. "Anytime Cinian." I said just in time and then it shut off, leaving me staring at nothing but my own house.
