"How did you know?"
Clara looked at the Doctor, her love for him warming her to the core. "Those big, sad eyes."
She didn't remember telling her feet to move her closer to the Doctor, but it happened anyway. Her body and her feelings were completely disobeying her brain as she cupped the side of his face, kissing him on the corner of his mouth sweetly before pulling back. "I always know."
She smiled again, turning around and heading back into the Tardis, prepared to give him all the time he needed. She needed some time as well; her heart was racing. She loved the Doctor with all her heart, and seeing him today truly validated that. Today he was truly and utterly The Doctor; all of them were. She smiled fondly at the memory of their bickering - after Trenzalore, todays happy ending was much needed.
The Doctor came in more quickly than she had anticipated, a new light in his eyes. Hope. She'd recognize it anywhere.
"So," the Doctor said happily, clapping his hands together, "we have a new mission." He grinned at Clara, his childlike excitement making her grin back in response. He dashed over to her quickly, hugging her tightly and lifting her off the ground. Clara let out a carefree laugh, burying her face in his neck. These moments were her favorite. After a minute he put her back down, beaming at her. Wouldn't those damn butterflies stop fluttering around in the pit of here stomach?
"Seems we have," Clara said happily as the Doctor turned, flipping some switches and sending the Tardis steadily into the vortex. "Off to Gallifrey."
"Yes - people to save, history to rewrite!" The Doctor twirled in excitement, running around the console pressing buttons and pulling levers. "But first, the moon!" Clara scrunched her eyebrows in confusion before realizing their earlier plans. She was about to protest - Gallifrey was much more important - but the Tardis cut her off with a harsh jolt, causing her to stumble away from the console and onto the floor. No matter how much better the Doctor was getting at taking off in the Tardis, his landing seemed to be getting worse and worse. She got up slowly, walking over to where he was looking at the monitor above the console.
"The Moon; 1547. Two years after the first intergalactic bar opened! Gorgeous drinks, although I'd stay away from anything green..." he grabbed her hands, looking excitedly into her eyes. She loved the newfound happiness she could see there. Suddenly he was pulling her out of the Tardis and onto the surface of the moon, explaining to her that there was an atmosphere bubble installed above the moon's surface and that's why they could breathe. Clara smiled before stopping him, causing him to look at her in confusion.
"What's wrong? We could always go on our date somewhere else, you know; I hear the Lost Moon of Poosh - well, it's not lost anymore - they have amazing sunsets and-"
"Doctor," Clara said gently, ignoring the rapid beating of her heart caused by him calling their outing a date. She put a hand on his shoulder. "I thought we were going to look for Gallifrey... to find your people." The Doctor's smile faded slightly, but the light in his eyes didn't waver. He took her hands in his own once more, looking down at them sheepishly before looking up.
"Well, yes. But it's Wednesday. This is our Wednesday. And there are planets to save and people to find and new worlds I can show you but, after everything that has happened today, I realized that... you were brilliant today, Clara. I couldn't have done anything today without you. And, well..." The Doctor dropped her hands to grasp his own awkwardly, eyes downcast. But Clara smiled because she knew. She understood what he was trying to say.
"What, too scared to say thank you?" Clara teased. He met her eyes and offered her a bemused smile, and before either truly knew what they were doing their lips met. The Doctor's hands took a while to find a place to rest, but Clara quickly and easily wrapped her arms around his neck. At first neither knew exactly what to do, because they certainly had not meant to do this, but after a moment of hesitation they found their footing. The kiss was short but said everything that needed saying, and after pulling away they gripped each other tightly, laughing softly.
"Today has been properly mad," Clara said quietly as their embrace reluctantly ended. They didn't pull far from each other, though. The Doctor grinned, cupping her cheek gently and nodding his agreement.
"But I rather liked the outcome."
"You saved your home." For the first time, Clara let all the love she felt for this mad man pulse through her until it was all she could feel. He smiled at her, tapping her nose.
"I got the girl."
