I HOLD NO CLAIM TO ANY OF THE ORIGINAL Saiyuki CHARACTERS! NOTHING! :(
So, I was recently contacted through email about the Jade Pearl Chapters of the Saiyuki men. It is not widely known over here in America. It is a short sequel to Requiem and I had a fan that wanted me to write it so, here we are.
Enjoy :)
Chapter Eight
A Side Mission
"It's too relaxing!"
"We've been traveling in the desert for two days and no Youkai have attacked us."
"Stop complaining."
"I don't mind if the small fries attacked us. I just want to have a fight!"
"And the silence never wins."
Aurora gave a silent sigh as the speech from the other jeep continued. It had been three days since the events with Dougan and there hadn't even been a single appearance of an attack. She had been enjoying it but she knew that something would happen eventually.
Goku, Gojyo, and Hakkai were currently the ones speaking, dragging the others out of the silence that had expanded between the two jeeps.
"Speaking of which," Hakkai had continued, "We haven't seen Kougaiji lately."
"I just hope he's not planning something…Will Kougaiji appear now?!" Goku asked, looking around the area hopefully.
Hakkai glanced back at the young man. "Goku, you speak as if he's your friend."
"Please," Amira waved a hand. "The only one here that's closest to being Kougaiji's friend is this woman here," She motioned at aurora. "And if he shows back up here and refuses to give her answers on her mother again she'll beat the hell out of him."
Orin gave a wince at the mention of Aurora's mother. He knew that she didn't like talking about because she didn't have answers to all the questions she had but she seemed to ignore the comment, just continuing to stare ahead of them.
"Although I don't like those guys too much," Gojyo began. "If everything goes on like this, we'll get rusty."
"Why do you say that?" Arryn asked him. "You and Goku fight all the time."
"Nowhere near as much as you and Orin do."
"Liar."
"Please don't start this," Naora sighed as she stared up at the blue sky. "Or I'm going to have to knock some heads together myself."
"Aww, I just want to have a big fight with someone strong," Goku began, striking some poses in the back of the green jeep.
"And who was the one who said he didn't mend even the small fries earlier?" Gojyo grinned.
"Sanzo," Hakkai decided to change the subject over to the silent, smoking blond man beside him. "What is it? You've been really quiet. Does this have something to do with the strange ray of light this morning?"
"Strange ray of light?" Arryn asked, a brow cocked.
"Yeah," Amira nodded. "I remember seeing that, too."
"So, you saw it to…" Sanzo replied slowly. He glanced at Aurora. The two of them had been awake at the time; he didn't know that others had been too."
"What?" Goku looked interested. "What? What happened?"
"Just before dawn broke there was a ray of moving light," Hakkai answered him.
"Isn't that a shooting star?" Gojyo asked.
"I guess someone could think it was a shooting star," Amira agreed. "But its speed was too slow. It was more like…something falling."
"Maybe alien life has finally made its first contact to earth," Arryn commented.
"Something's not right about it," Sanzo told them. "Although there is no proof, I feel unsettled."
"Either way it doesn't matter." Aurora decided to speak. "It has nothing to do with us and so we shall not worry about it."
"She's right," Orin nodded in agreement. "Let's just worry about getting to the next town and getting some food." The man then pulled a face the moment those words left his mouth.
"Food? Food! Food! Food! Food!" Goku began to dance around the green jeep, causing Gojyo to start arguing with him and Sanzo's attitude to rise up.
"Nice going, Orin," Arryn stared at the back of her brother's head.
"Hey, I wasn't thinking."
"Yeah, we can tell. Then again, when do you ever?"
"Shut it, Arryn!"
"Make me, you stupid-"
Aurora clinched her eyes shut and rubbed her right temple as Goku and Gojyo's arguing melded together with Arryn and Orin's. Amira and Naora, used to it by now, just kept silent as they returned to their gazing at the sky. They both gave a jump thought when Sanzo's gun went off.
"IF YOU BASSTARDS DON'T shut UP NOW I'LL KILL YOU!"
That night at dinner everything went swell; until they reached the last dumpling. Goku and Gojyo instantly began fighting over it, like usual. Naora and Amira watched them together, cheering for their man to win. Arryn rolled her eyes with a smile and Orin told the two of them not to promote the fighting.
"Gojyo, you've eaten five. I've only eaten four!"
"That's because you're too slow! Besides, there's no need to haggle over every ounce. Besides, I need this more than you do. I gotta keep up my energy!"
"And why is that? We're not even fighting anything!"
Gojyo gave a grin at Amira. "Oh, who said it was for fighting?"
"And I lost my appetite," Orin sighed, shoving the rest of his food away. Goku pounced on it, leaving Gojyo the dumpling as Amira turned bright red and gave the other half-breed a quick kick.
Aurora shook her head as she sipped from her glass. Everything repeated in this little group. The arguing and the teasing and the jokes, both sexual and non. It never changed and, to the others, it never seemed to get old.
Her thoughts were proven right as Gojyo began to argue with who got the rest of Orin's food.
"They're really absorbed," Hakkai chuckled, glancing up from his map. "I just hope they don't upset their stomachs."
"Leave them be." Sanzo sighed.
"Even if that s something rare," A voice joined them. "You shouldn't fight all out with each other over it."
The voice brought everyone to a stop and turned to see that they had been joined.
"And so the she-man appears." Aurora turned in her chair, her hands folded in her lap.
"Oh, your greetings are always so nice, Sakura." Kanzeon grinned at the woman. "And always entertaining." Kanzeon Bosatsu, with her long black hair and white dress, wore a smirk on her face as she took in the group before her. "I'm glad that you're all getting along. Wondrous performance with Dougan, by the way, Priestess. A little longer and you could even call yourself demonic."
"Hey," Naora stood up from her seat. "Take that back! I won't let you talk to Sakura that way!"
"Still sticking up for her, huh Naora?" Kanzeon shook her head with a smile. "I should have known."
"Who is that?" Goku asked.
"Kanzeon Bosatsu," Hakkai answered. "Although she doesn't look like it, she seems to be a pretty important divine being."
"Don't forget she's a Hermaphrodite." Amira teased Gojyo with a look. The red-haired man gave a shudder, trying to forget the night he and Kanzeon had shared a kiss. It had been a forceful kiss, but a kiss nonetheless.
"Oh, and that" Hakkai nodded.
"Hakkai, you're wavering." Sanzo grunted.
"Ah yes," Kanzeon turned to the blond man that refused to look at her. "How are you?"
"I was fine before you showed up," Was his answer.
She smirked. "That's good."
"So, what are you here for?" Arryn asked.
"What? You don't think I just came to visit you." Kanzeon replied.
"Not in this lifetime, no." Orin replied, drinking the rest of his beer. "Whenever you appear, it's got trouble all over it."
"So, just what is it?" Gojyo asked, taking a seat again.
"I want you to find something." She answered.
"Find something?" Naora titled her head.
"Can you be a little more specific?" Hakkai asked her. "I'll be very grateful to you."
"Simply put, the Jade Pearl from heaven as fallen to earth so you need to find it."
"The Jade Pearl?" Aurora repeated her. "What idiot did you put in charge of that?"
"So that glow this morning was front that," Sanzo lifted his head.
"Do the two off you know what it is?" Kanzeon looked surprised.
"Is the Jade Pearl something really important?" Arryn asked.
"No, it's a useless object," Kanzeon told her.
"Then we don't have to bother with it, right?" Orin leaned back in his chair. "No harm in it, right?"
"Although it's useless, it's not harmless," She told him. "It can grant any wish."
"Any wish?" Naora repeated. Ideas blossomed in her head.
"Yes, any wish."
"Why is that harmful?" Goku asked her. "Isn't that good?"
"You can't generalize," Sanzo told him.
"Why?"
"What would you wish for?"
Goku thought for a moment. "I'd wish that I had more than enough to eat."
"That's all you think about!" Gojyo growled at him.
"Think about it," Amira gripped her chin. "If someone bad got their hands onto it, it could turn out horrible. Like some idiot wanting to rule the world or something."
"Exactly." Kanzeon nodded.
"The only way for that to happen is if everyone but you disappeared, Goku." Sanzo told the other man.
"No matter what the wish is," Kanzeon continued. "It might become something really serious."
"In other words," Gojyo sighed. "That is no ordinary object."
"Nothing that involves us is normal anymore," Arryn sighed, spinning her fork on the table.
"Ain't that the truth," Her brother and Hakkai agreed together.
"It's nothing impressive," The woman told them.
"Then why should we find it?"
"My instructions are to stop the revival of Gyu-Maoh. That's all. I'm not doing any other of your jobs for you." Sanzo told her.
"That's why I say you have to find it quickly." Kanzeon told them. "I'm sure that they've already heard of the Jade Pearl falling. If they get their hands on it then you're going to be in some really big trouble. And s, I shall leave the rest to you guys." She turned to leave but Sanzo caught her.
"Wait. I said that I refuse."
"Well, if you do refuse then I'm afraid that the credit card that you have so happily used on your journey will no longer be of use to you anymore."
"So, in other words, we are in no position to refuse it." Hakkai gave a nervous smile.
"Then we'll just use Aurora's, right?" Goku glanced at the Priestess.
"We don't use a credit card," Amira to the little man. "We actually pawn off things we collect from the dead Youkai bodies after the fight."
"You…do?" Gojyo looked surprised.
"Yeah, have you never noticed before?"
"No, I can honestly say that I haven't."
"That's because you're normally with Hakkai when he has the credit card. We keep our stuff separated."
"Then why let Sanzo pay for the dinner with his card?" Goku asked.
"Hey, if blondie over there was to buy, I'm not complaining one bit."
"You're just going to make it worse, you know." Arryn told her brother.
"Kanzeon," Aurora began, staring at the woman in front of her. "I will go and get your Jade Pearl, but you have to do something for me."
"Uh-oh," Naora pulled a face.
"Oh?" Kanzeon smirked. "And just what would that be?"
Aurora stood from her chair and left the room. Kanzeon was still for a moment before she followed her.
"I wonder what it is," Goku commented, sitting back in his chair.
"What does it matter?" Sanzo asked.
"What do you mean, Sanzo? Of course it matters!" Goku growled. "If something's wrong with Sakura then I would want to help her, wouldn't you?"
"That's not what Sanzo meant, Goku," Hakkai calmed the young man down.
"Then what did he mean?"
"What he meant was that his arguing and refusal doesn't matter anymore," Orin shot the Priest a smirk. "Anywhere the Priestess goes her pet will follow."
"Wanna say that again?!" Sanzo growled, whipping out his gun.
"I'll preach it from the roof if I have to, blondie!"
As the two of them continued to talk, Naora turned her gaze back to the door that Aurora and Kanzeon had disappeared through.
What was it that Aurora wanted from the divine being?
