Chapter Ten
Hazel eyes wearily began to peel open. Blurred figures entered his vision as he tried desperately to figure out whom they belonged to. His hearing picked up on a rather irritated Hiei snapping at someone. So one of the blurred figures was the fire demon, then who was the other? As his vision began to clear a bit more, he spotted orange.
'Ah, Kuwabara,' he thought. The human was no doubt giving him a once over after that fight with Henshin to ensure he was alright.
The brunette heard a heavy sigh, and shifted his gaze to the smaller of the two blurs. "They're at the mall," he grumbled. "Kurama's bringing him back now, so they should be here shortly." The raven haired demon grumbled a bit more before stomping off. What had exactly gotten under his skin?
Most likely their favorite red head doing more shopping.
Suddenly a bright light was shone in his eyes, doing quite a bit to clear them up as a result. "Koenma? Its Kuwabara," the demon doctor started out. "Can you tell me the last thing you remember?"
Koenma opened his mouth to speak, but only an odd airy grunt left his lips. Kuwabara seemed to realize what the problem was and quickly sat the other up, handing him a cup of water to moisten his dry throat. The demi-god greedily sucked down the heavenly liquid before attempting to speak again.
"Yuusuke had just shot Henshin, wounding him and forcing him to retreat." Koenma's voice was raspy and soft from the prolonged disuse.
The human merely nodded his head and continued to examine the other. After a torturous amount of poking, prodding, and cold instruments being pressed up against his flesh, Koenma was forced to wave the overly concerned male away.
"I get that you're trying to help," he snapped lightly, rubbing at his left temple, "But this is a bit much."
"Sorry," Kuwabara apologized. "I just wanted to make sure you were fit seeing as how your condition pretty much killed Yuusuke this past month."
Hazel eyes widened for a split second before slipping shut. It seemed an appropriate amount of time for him to be unconscious all things considered. The door slamming open, forced his train of thought to derail as his eyes snapped over to the portal. Chocolate brown orbs seemed to gloss over at the sight of her lover. Koenma smiled softly at the turned girl causing a large goofy grin to grace her own lips.
"K-chan!" she cried out, barreling towards the recently woken demi-god.
At the sight of her large swollen belly, the brunet's eyes widened. She was too large to be developing at the rate of a human pregnancy, but too small for that of a god's. Looked like she would be going the demon route. The pair embraced silently for a rather long time before a throat cleared indicating another bored presence in the room. Kuwabara was still there, doing his best to look distracted, Hiei was leaning against the door frame looking like he would rather die than witness such a heartfelt moment. Kurama stood off to the side of Kuwabara and cleared his throat again, effectively garnering their attention.
"As touching as this is," the red head started. "I'm certain we're all a bit curious as to why a god was unconscious for a month."
"Not in the slightest," Hiei grunted from the doorway, but made no move to leave.
"Ah, right," Koenma smiled a bit sheepishly. Gods were supposed to be indestructible by ordinary human and demon means.
Yuusuke pulled away a bit, but remained sitting on the bed. Her lover needed room to talk after all. Plus it was a bit embarrassing to continue embracing the other while her friends watched. Damned voyeurs. She waited with baited breath as the brunet began his explanation.
"Normally, attacks like Henshin's would not permanently wound a God." Upon seeing Hiei's mouth open in preparation to tease, hazel eyes shifted to glare lightly at the other as he quickly cut him off. "In training or otherwise." The demon clicked his tongue against his teeth softly before glancing off to the side in boredom once more.
"However, I used a forbidden technique in order to find Yuu-chan lest that demon get to him first. I knew I only had a matter of time before my powers would be sealed in punishment from doing such a thing." Koenma paused, waiting for the information to sink in before he continued. "I am only thankful they weren't fully sealed until Henshin was injured. Unfortunately as a result, my body was unable to heal itself from the damage causing me to lose consciousness until I was fully healed."
"That doesn't make complete sense," Kuwabara chimed in, muttering mildly to himself. "If you were unconscious until you healed, then you should have woken up about a week later."
"My physical wounds were healed instantly after the seal on my powers was released, however I had to wait for my spirit energy to return to normal levels until I could regain consciousness." The demi-god gave a light sigh at this. "I actually require a great deal of energy to sustain my physical form here. Even unconscious, my spirit energy must have gone into autopilot to maintain it. It's most likely why it took so long for it to return to an appropriate amount."
The room fell silent, dealing with this new information. They would have to keep a close eye on the pair or deal with the repercussions should something fatal happen to one or the other. It was nice knowing that Gods too were mortal in a sense.
Koenma suddenly found himself in a firm embrace. "I don't care why it happened, I'm just glad you're awake K-chan."
"Me too Yuu-chan," he smiled softly as he carefully returned the heartfelt hug.
Not wanting to further disturb their happy reunion, the others left, leaving the two love birds to their own devices. The pair continued to hold onto each other for a few more moments before Yuusuke was forced to shift into a more comfortable position in her lover's lap; her back resting gently against Koenma's chest.
"I wonder what it's going to be…" The demi-god mumbled happily as he began to rub the half demon's large mid-section.
"Hopefully a baby," Yuusuke joked in turn. This caused Koenma to laugh lightly as well.
"No silly, like a boy or a girl."
"Who cares what it is. All I know is it's gonna be hella spoiled," the girl smiled brightly.
Koenma chuckled again. "Of course with Uncle Kurama and Aunt Botan around it'd be no surprise."
"Plenty of baby sitters too." The raven haired girl gave a leer at her lover. Of course she had to go and imply something perverted when neither of them could really enjoy the other in a physical manner.
"How much longer will you be like this?"
"Kuwabara said I'm about eight weeks along in a demon pregnancy so I've got about another three or four give or take."
The demi-god held his lover a bit tighter in response. "I'm sorry I've missed most of this," he indicated by rubbing at her swollen abdomen.
"You're here now," Yuusuke replied, turning her head a bit so her chocolate orbs could connect with the sorrow filled honey ones behind her. Her reassuring gaze continued for a bit longer before her eyes suddenly widened. "Oh yeah!" she exclaimed before hopping out of the embrace and over to the bag she had dropped by the open doorway. "I bought something for the baby today."
His curiosity piqued, Koenma raised a single brown eyebrow at his love as she withdrew what appeared to be a stuffed blue penguin; small enough to not suffocate a baby, but big enough to be loved on for years. "It looks like Puu," he muttered before smiling brightly at the half demon. "I'm sure our child will love it."
Yuusuke blushed lightly at hearing that. It was still weird knowing he was male turned female getting ready to birth a child. His and Koenma's child. They weren't given that much time to contemplate the decision, but the former detective would gladly do it all again just to see the heartfelt smiles from her better half. Not to mention the idea of a half god running around with Yuusuke's attitude was way too great to pass up on.
The raven haired soon to be mother opened her mouth to speak, but was rather rudely cut off by Koenma's growling stomach. She could stop the hearty laugh the escaped her as the brunet flushed lightly in embarrassment.
"I thought gods didn't need to eat to sustain themselves."
Koenma growled lightly at her. "I do because I'm still in training. A good deal of my stored spirit energy comes from eating food."
To hear the demi-god admit to such a thing was quite entertaining. She only wished Hiei had heard it to help further tease the god-in-training. She finally got her laughter back in control when Koenma tried his best to stand from the bed. God or not, you don't sleep for a month and then get right back on the horse. With a light shake of her head, Yuusuke moved over to help the brunet out. Before she could even reach out with a helping hand, Koenma lightly pushed her away.
"What the hell?" she grunted taking an extra step back to keep her balance. "You obviously need help walking you idiot."
"I don't want you to over-exert yourself," Koenma replied, his voice turning a bit airy at the effort it took to stand.
Yuusuke merely crossed her arms across her chest as best she could while glaring lightly at her love. He could be a stubborn idiot at times, but then she was one most of the time. She watched Koenma stumble slowly through the guest room as he made his way toward the sofa in the main room; following closely behind to help him should he lose his balance. Thankfully she wasn't needed, but it was amusing to watch him flop heavily onto the furniture, panting lightly from pure exhaustion.
Kuwabara, who was sitting on the other sofa reading some notes, merely glance over at the pair. "You should take it easy Koenma. God or not, no one sleeps for a month and then walks it off."
The half demon gave her trademark grin to her lover as she was the one that usually got reprimanded for over doing it. Not to mention Kuwabara had pretty accurately voice her own thoughts on the matter.
Koenma felt his heart swell at that beautiful smile. Oh how he missed that smile more than anything. He would do whatever it took to keep that smile on his beloved's face.
"Especially one in training who requires food to help restore their energy," Hiei teased from his usual reading spot on the windowsill.
Yuusuke gave a soft laugh at that while the brunet glared at the fire demon, his cheeks flushing lightly. So Hiei had heard them. Ah this was going to make things much more fun and interesting. Much better than the dullness it had been the previous month.
Kurama appeared in the main room with a simple meal for the two lovers, adding his own teasing toward the god in the process.
Yes, things would be much better from now on…
(A/N: Holy crud, I had no idea it had been so long since I updated this. I thought I gave everything an update within the last year. I have a million excuses, but I'm sure you're all just glad to see me updating. I'm going to work on finishing this fic first since it's about two-thirds of the way through. I'm estimating about another 6 or 7 chapters to go. I am getting back into writing more regularly so I can work on my light novels that I intend to publish and sell at conventions and whatnot. I'm actually at a loss right now for any Christmas fic ideas, so one probably won't happen to those who are wondering.)
Thanks to all the follows/alerts/reviews. They mean the world to me guys and actually pushed me for this update. Thank you so much!
