Several days passed by and Kyoya stayed with Ren whenever he had the chance, she still kept her room dark but the door was opened now. Every day she was more like herself, the second day she jumped when Gokudera came near but she got over it quickly along with the other members of their group, but with strangers she was the jumpiest if one of them made a too fast movement toward her she would react much like she would in a battle. Kyoya had been discharged two days ago but he still spent most of his time there leaving Namimorie to the fully healed Tetsu.
"Kyoya I'll be fine, you better go help poor Tetsu before he gets buried under that paper work." Ren joked lightly, today she had felt much more like herself and she felt bad that Kyoya was spending all his time trying to get her back on her feet, though she couldn't deny that his constant presence was the reason she had been recovering so quickly. Tomorrow she would be getting released and would finish healing her physical wounds at her house, she had finally come to terms with what happened to her and she made peace with it as her memory had already decided she was capable of handling the trauma. But what she couldn't forgive was the man that had trapped her in that endless loop of pain and helplessness, it was one of the things that had made both her and Kyoya grow closer, there mutual hate of a man named Mukuro Rokudo.
"hn, if he can't handle a little paper work then he had no use being the vice chairman." Kyoya replied as he stoked the soft yellow feathers of Hibird the pet he had acquired during his caged time in Kyokue land.
Ren laughed, "You know I don't think Vice chairman is the real name for his position, in the general sense the vice is more like what I do, and he's more like the general. Keeping the troops in line and giving orders."
"Your right, but I like to think of you as a secretary."
"Well then as your secretary I'm telling you to go help your poor vice and leave me to rest. Hayato said he would be coming over with the others later and I want my rest before I'm forced to deal with that stupid cow and all the yelling." Ren said pouting in that way that made him think of a cat puffing up its fur.
"Fine, but I'm leaving the bird with you, he'll be in the way with me." Kyoya said giving in, he had become quiet protective over the last few days, and something in him had stared to change towards her, but he had yet to find a name for it. He glanced back over at her as she settled back down to sleep and Hibird settled in her hair and began to chirp the school anthem, a smile graced his lips before leaving.
"You're growing quiet attached to her, aren't you Hibari." Reborn said coming out of nowhere, he had been keeping a careful eye on how their relationship was developing. It was close to taking the next step but not yet, he suspected that that wouldn't happen till she was completely back to her old self and in fighting shape. A quiet 'hn' was Reborn's reply as he walked past Reborn said one more thing to push the more stubborn of the two in the right direction. "You know, she had just found out that you had gone to Kyokue while I was talking to her she had this moment of realization that you were in trouble and while I was talking she took off like a female wolf knowing her mate was in trouble. You should think on that Hibari, but maybe this time you're the one knowing the other is in trouble."
Kyoya paused a second trying to see what the baby was trying to get at, but he didn't need to think too hard about it he already had an inkling when he watched her force Mukuro away from him and stood in front protectively and the excitement that ran threw him when he watched her fight an push back there shared enemy. His anger when she was frightened and the need to attack that which frightened her, but he didn't try to dwell on it and now this baby had purposely brought it back to the forefront of his mind.
Ren crossed her arms and tried to keep her calm as Lambo chased Ipin all over her room, but the brat was starting to get on her nerves which were clear by the subtle twitching of her eyebrow. So it was a relief when Tsuna finally captured him and took him and all the other female friends away leaving just Hayato, which was just as well she hated all the pitying looks that the others gave her even though only Hayato and Kyoya were told about her past, Reborn left it up to her to tell Tsuna when she was ready. "God I can't wait to get out of here, I'm so bored and I'm not meant to be stationary for this long. Besides I bet poor Tetsu is being drowned while trying to finish all the paperwork."
"Sure it's just the paper work your worried about." Hayato teased recalling the way she and a certain prefect acted around each other.
"I don't know what you're trying to get at here." She said.
"Just admit it already, you've fallen for Hibari-san."
"yes, I know, have been for a while." Hayato looked back at her surprised that she was being completely honest and had admitted it so easily. "I really realized it when I knew he was in trouble in Kyokue land."
"Why don't you tell him."
Ren scoffed, "Typical boy question, it's not that simple." She paused brining her knee up and laying her arm across it while looking out the window with a thoughtful look. "See if I knew that it wouldn't change our current friendship then I would have told him already. But my friendship with him and with everyone else for that matter is something I treasure too much. Before I came here I was constantly moving around so I never did have any lasting relationships, nor anyone that meant so much to me. So I don't want to jeopardize that." Hayato looked at her like she was stupid it didn't even register to her that Hibari-san would feel the same. He rolled his eyes before deciding, maybe it would be better to let them figure these things out for themselves.
"Alright get a goodnights rest tomorrow you'll be out of here and then back to work as a disciplinary committee member." He waved to her as he left. She waved back to him before going back into her thoughts, no she didn't want to take the chance of driving a wedge between the two of them, even if she lived forever with this unrequited love. With that she laid back down tired from all that had happened, she smiled as Hibird landed in front of her and decided to sleep on her pillow.
A week later Ren was back to work and had finally made a full recovery in body and mind, now not even crowded places worried her anymore. Her relationship with Kyoya was even better than before she could now get him to actually participate in a full conversation, which she considered a personal victory. Though she quickly found out that her stamina and strength had taken a steep nose dive from what she considered respectable, so she often challenged Kyoya to a sparring match but to her annoyance she seemed to have become a weak herbivore compared to him.
"Again." Ren said as she picked herself up off the ground, were Kyoya had just knocked her over for the second time in this one battle. He went after her again. She blocked but her swiftness wasn't were it had been nor could she take his stronger blows without being pushed back, but Kyoya didn't let up. He knew the only way for her to get back to where she was not to slacken his attacks and slowly he watched her regain that power and grace she had once held.
"Again." She said picking up her weapon that he had just relived her of, he obliged.
Finally spent she kneeled on the ground before him leaning on her staff, he heard several curses fall from her lips several of which were in different langue's. "You're getting there, you're better than when you started."
"Ha, are you trying to piss me off. You know as well as I that I'm maybe on par with Yamamoto, my stamina is completely gone and I can't even stay on my feet when blocking your strongest attacks." She looked at him with blazing silver eyes, filled with determination.
"Hnn, then just suck it up and get back your formal level herbivore." His comment had the desired effect as she leapt to her feet attacking him with renewed energy. "hn, much better, don't forget who you are, my wild feline." With a growl much like a wild cat she swept at his legs with some of her old speed making him stumble. A smile graced his lips as he could see she had finally put everything behind her and only focused on getting back to her old self. When she really couldn't go on any more she fell on her back panting heavily barely able to lift another limb. Lips twitching as a small feathered weight landed on her forehead and chirped her and Hibair's names happily.
"Your hair has gotten longer," he remarked quietly.
"Hm, ya I'm getting it cut tomorrow, you could do me a favor and call me into work around noon tomorrow." She said with one eye cracked open and peering at him.
"And why's that?"
"Because Bianchi, Hana, Kyoko, and Haru want to take me shopping to celebrate my full recovery."
"And you don't want to?"
"Are you kidding, I hate shopping." At to punctate her words a shudder ran threw her, "and besides I haven't recovered yet, not till I get my skills back."
"Well, then… Be here by one for more training, and that is not an option also be prepared we won't be stopping till it's dark." He gave her a slightly sadistic smile that made her shudder in desire.
"Alright, that should placate them and save me."
They didn't talk anymore after that not needing to say anymore and just enjoying the sun as it went down. Kyoya glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, she laid there completely ungraded and he could easily jump her but he knew she trusted him enough not to. That trust in him made him smile, he didn't want to admit it but he had changed, she had opened a very herbivore feeling in him, but he could admit he didn't dislike the feeling as long as it was her that was eliciting the feeling. He smiled as he watched Hibird tug at a particular long strand of hair, her forehead scrunched in annoyance but she didn't make a move to stop him.
A gentle chuckle graced her ears, she smiled inwardly enjoying the sound as it was all too rare, her face scrunched more when the weight on her forehead disappeared and a soft touch replaced it. Kyoya looked down at her pushing aside the stray hair then running the back of his fingers down her cheek, he looked up to meet silver eyes looking at him unreadable but betrayed by the slight heat he felt under his fingers. The orange red glow of the sunset lightening her face beautifully those silver eyes reflecting so much. The thought of that man stealing a kiss from her ran through his mind and made him angry, and before he even decided to do it he already had.
"Kyoya… what-!" her eyes flew open in shock as she felt his gentle lips claim her own, the shock disappeared as he nipped gently at her lower lip. Her body relaxed and she leaned into the kiss him pressing her back into the stone tiles, almost as if of their own accord her arms slipped around his neck locking there. When oxygen became an issue they pulled apart to catch their breath their forehead resting together eyes closed breath mixing together. Purple grey meat silver before their lips met in another kiss this time when Kyoya nipped harsher at her lower lip she allowed him letting there sweet breath and tongues mingle and battle for dominance.
Kyoya smirked into their kiss when he heard her make a noise and shudder under his ministrations. He was enjoying this immensely more than he thought he would and couldn't help the shudder of desire for her when her teeth tugged on his lower lip, he growled and felt the intense desire to make her his, to mark her. Pulling away from there heated kiss he grazed his teeth along her jawline then down her neck, enjoying it when her head fell back to offer him complete access to her skin. Nipping her pulse point he found pleaser of feeling it jump and speed higher, he looked for a spot to leave his mark biting into her soft skin hard enough to draw a thin stream of blood he enjoyed her answering shudder and the slide of her hands threw his hair. Kyoya lapped up the small stream of blood and started when he felt the unexpected contact of her lips on his collarbone quickly turn into the slight pain as she too bit him and left her mark.
When he finally did pull away they were both breathing none too gently, but he enjoyed the most was the very obvious blush on her normally expressionless face. "W-what are you looking at?" Ren asked and felt horrified that she had actually stuttered, but that thought was chased away when she saw the look on Kyoya's face and it took her breath away. He was smiling, a gentle and loving smile with a hint of possessiveness in it, nothing like the sadistic or amused one he usually showed. Her breath caught again when he leaned in to whisper something in her ear.
"Just so you're aware, you're mine now I've marked you so." He whispered with a hint of amusement.
"Just so you're aware, so are you." She said back and traced a slender finger over the mark she had left on his collarbone.
She heard his resounding laughter deep within her ear, "So I am."
