Finally the start of the new chapters. Ok so this is where the actual story begins. Well if you want to consider it that then fine. This story has it's meaning but it's up to you on how you want to view it. On the side note I did make a reference to the movie Meet The Robinson's don't be like, "Hey! you stole that from somewhere! Where exactly?" I was going to have a longer chapter but I split it in half knowing that it was going to be difficult for me. The chapter is done, I just have to revise to you can expect it by tonight or tomorrow. So that's my Christmas gift to you guys :) Please be patient for the next future chapter because both of my hands and wrist are in a brace. It's hard for me to type comfortably but hey I managed right now.
It was a cold and foggy night on the streets of San Fransokyo. From the edges of the colorful, bright busy city, the mist from the pier crept onto the sidewalks and warehouses. Alleyways were dark and cold where a small flash of a phone can be easily seen through the end. Hiro Hamada, genius at 14, covered his head with his hood and came by an alley. Checking left and right to make sure no one was around, he made his way down the area gripping onto something in his hoodie pocket. The sounds of clanks and screeching steels can be heard on the other side. The sounds of roaring crowds grew louder by the small amounts of steps the young boy took. Arriving at the scenery, Hiro stood behind the crowd against the wall looking like a wallflower. Now he just had to wait for his turn.
"And that's all for tonight students." The professor of the class dismissed the session and everyone proceeded to leave the room. Tadashi was packing up as Gogo came up from behind and scared him effortlessly. Tadashi nearly dropped his laptop and quickly turns to face his 'attacker' only to be relieved that it was only his short adrenaline junky friend. "Seriously Gogo, you're going to give me a heart attack one of these days."
"It's not my fault you jump so easily. God, you're so sensitive!" They both laughed and made their way into the hallway. They made small talk about their projects and what are the plans for the weekend. The group had gotten along so quickly despite their differences and they loved each other's company.
"How's that little brother of yours? Still getting into trouble?" Gogo asked before putting a piece of gum into her mouth.
"I don't know Gogo. He's still acting up and sneaking out of the house more often. I really don't know what else to do about his behavior." He sounded tired. Whenever his friends mention the name of his brother he can't help but feel annoyed remembering the awful attitude Hiro had been giving him.
"Don't you have an aunt? Come 'on let the women do her job on disciplining him."
"I can't, that's my job. My poor aunt has been working non-stop for about a year now and she hasn't been able to spend a full day with us. She doesn't have the time for that so I have to be the role model for Hiro."
"Tadashi if you ever need some time off to relax to catch up on your studies you know we can watch over the monkey for a while." Tadashi just shook his head but Gogo continued, "Look, you don't have to worry about what we might think or do to Hiro, we are not like those people you encountered in high school. Ok, he can be a pain, but that can't change the fact that no matter what we can a friend to Hiro." Tadashi relaxed, he gave a warm smile to Gogo and thanked her. Gogo smiled back to Tadashi. "Wait a sec! When are we gonna meet the kid? I thought you said you'd bring him over to lab one day!"
"I'm sorry it's just that Hiro complained about not wanting to come and would rather spend his 'productive' time on-" A beeping noise came out of Tadashi's phone. He quickly took out his phone to check alert of his GPS app. Hiro snuck out again.
"God damn Hiro. Really?"
"What's up?"
"He went bot fighting again! I have to go before he does anything stupid again." Tadashi runs down the hallway and out of the building. He ran to his moped and hopped on to get a move on. Hiro Hamada you are so grounded when I tell Aunt Cass what you've been up to. He sped through the street lights of San Fransokyo to save his brother.
Crap. Hiro was screwed. This was the end of the line for him. Three buffed up thugs were cornering him outside in the alley. Hiro held on tight to his Megabot until one of the thugs snatched the robot off his hands and tossed it to the head of the group, Yama, the top battle bot gangster of the city. Hiro reached out to retain his possession, but was shoved back against the wall hitting his head hard. He could've sworn he saw stars.
"What do you say kid? I'll let you go without a problem if you work for me. Think about it, we could be unstoppable! We'll be taking over this city by simply owning it. But if you refuse the offer I have no choice but to get rid of you." Yama wad sure to speak his last sentence in a sinister matter. His voice made Hiro shudder but regained his confidence by asking the man, "and why should you get rid of me?"
"There shouldn't be anyone more superior to me, I SHOULD BE THE ONE WINNING THE MONEY!"
"Wow, someone's a little greedy."
"So what will it be? Join me?"
"No way, I work alone."
"Very well. Finish him boys."
"Hold on! Let's talk about this, maybe there's another way we can handle this." Hiro was picked up from the ground. He flinched and covered his face as the guy held his fist in the air. Hiro remained in midair but was dropped to the ground. He groans and slowly picked his head up to see where the source of light suddenly appeared. A moped, a yellow one, could it be? Of course! "Tadashi!"
"Hiro! Get on!"
"Ah-Perfect timing." Tadashi throws Hiro helmet on and speeds away from the scene. He kept driving fast but sped up even more after seeing the man trying to catch up.
"Are you serious Hiro?! This is the third I had to save your ass from a bot fight almost getting badly beaten up, or worse, killed!"
"But did I die?"
"No but-"
"Then there's no worries bro, and look at all this cash I won tonight," He proudly flashed the wide amount of cash in front of Tadashi distracting his driving. Hiro realized that Tadashi was not paying attention to Hiro anymore and felt the speed decrease. "Hey what's up, why are we slowing down?" He dragged the last word after hearing the sound of sirens, he knew what was up now. Tadashi stopped and turned back to Hiro.
"You owe me. Big time."
"Oh Aunt Cass!" Tadashi exclaimed as he ran to hug his aunt. "Oh Tadashi I was so worried about you! Thank goodness you're ok!" She wrapped her arms tight around her nephew squeezing him, causing him to beg for air. She surprisingly was a strong woman. She loosened her grip after hearing Tadashi's need of air. Tadashi looked around his aunt trying to find something. "Where's Hiro?"
"He's in the lobby waiting for us. We just got done talking to the officers about his record."
The two walked back to meet up with Hiro who was sitting uncomfortably in his chair hanging his head. He peeked his head up when he recognized the two pair of feet his knew they belonged to. Aunt Cass's concerned mood changed into a disappointed mood. "Okay boys, get in the car. And Hiro you are so grounded."
Hiro had his ears covered as he sat on his bed trying to ignore his aunt's nagging that was continued from the car ride home. Sometimes it was a curse whenever he was trouble. "That's it! I don't know what to do with you anymore! I might as well take the officer's advice into taking you to a military school...wait what was it called again?"
Hiro heard Aunt Cass mention the place and perked up from his position he rushes over to Aunt Cass and grabs the bottom of her shirt. "No please Aunt Cass!" He pleaded, "Don't send me away! I don't wanna go."
"Hiro, I'm sorry but I'm tired of you going off at night doing illegal activities. This is causing too much damage to the family emotionally and financially. Hiro I'm stuck with bills I need to pay off from 3 years ago! I could be losing the apartment and café and some of the workers are being laid off even when I didn't want them to. You need to understand whatever you're doing is not only effecting you." By the time Cass finished her rant Hiro was hugging her tightly lightly sobbing into her shoulder. Aunt Cass sighed and hugged him back still showing some slight irritation but raising sympathy. "Please, just stop it Hiro." She lets go and quietly leaves the room. Tadashi, who was in the room the entire time, got up from his bed and walked over to Hiro's side of the room. "You really don't care about stopping."
Hiro looked up at his brother surprised. "What makes you think that?"
"I know you're tricks Hiro. You play innocent to get things your way. That includes the bot fighting."
"Hey, I really meant it when I said I didn't want to get sent off."
"What? You're scared about meeting other people who are worse than you?"
"Yea. I never want to experience that again." That's right. Hiro had to deal with bullies and threats before. How could Tadashi forget? He sees Hiro actually get upset about the thought. If Hiro were placed in a room with a bunch of criminal kids who could easily manipulate him he was bound to not make it back home in one piece. Tadashi hated to admit it but Hiro was still a wimp. Sure he taught some karate moves and helped Hiro restore some of his self-esteem back (which also caused Hiro to get in trouble again for his sarcastic remarks), but whenever Hiro is stuck remembering the past he forgets about reality. And let's not forget to mention that this could affect his heart too. Speaking of his heart…
"Hiro, have you been taking your medicine?"
Hiro shakes his head still dozed off. He had been skipping his medication recently. He found it rather boring and annoying that he needed to stay in check with his health every day. Tadashi sighs and goes to the bathroom to find his medication.
"I leave you alone for week to take care of yourself and this is what you do...nothing." Hiro just stayed silent. Tadashi opens the bottle and drops two pills into the palm of his hand. He grabs a water bottle that has been sitting on Hiro's desk unopened. He goes over to Hiro in his bed.
"You've been looking very pale lately, and I noticed your breathing was short. Are you having any chest pains?"
Hiro slowly nodded. Tadashi was quite disappointed Hiro hadn't told him earlier but he didn't want to cause Hiro to be more stressed out. Hiro swallowed the two pills his brother handed to him and laid back into his bed facing the ceiling shutting his eyes. "Why did mom have to have problems during her pregnancy with me?"
Tadashi frowned at his little brother's complaint. He bends over to Hiro and stroked his hair. "It's neither you nor mom's fault. Blame nature, or fate."
"What do you think dad is doing right now?"
"I don't know to be honest. I really haven't stopped to think about him. But...Aunt Cass might." Hiro looked up to his brother. "She told me a couple weeks ago that she got a call from dad. I really didn't want to know anything else."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"You were in the hospital when he called. Remember when you had the infection in your arteries?"
Hiro turned over to put his face into his pillow. Life was so cruel to him. A few seconds go by until Hiro spoke again. "Do you think Aunt Cass is also stressed about the medical bills? Is she disappointed that I haven't been taking care of myself?"
"She could never be disappointed in you for that Hiro! She loves you, and it's not your fault. We didn't know you had the infection. It just happened."
"Sometimes I wonder why she even bothers with me."
Tadashi got on his knees next to his brother's bed. "Like I said, she loves you. She will do anything to make sure you stay alive and healthy. She doesn't want you to suffer. She is willing to sacrifice anything if it meant keeping you safe."
"That sounds like something a mom would do."
"Kinda. She technically is our mom."
"Hey, Tadashi?" Hiro flipped his body to lay on his side to get a better view of his brother, "What was mom like?"
"Oh my gosh. Well she was amazing. She was so loving and carefree. She was young and upbeat, ready to take action whenever there was a problem. Her voice was what spoke her character the most. It was soft and warm, very gentle. I remember how beautifully she before my bedtime. And how she narrates a story that made me dream a peaceful sleep."
Hiro noticed Tadashi taking in the nostalgia. Hiro loved his aunt Cass, she was considered a mom to him since he was a baby, but he always wanted to know what his real mother was like.
"She was a women full of love and hope."
"Do you think she would've treated me the same as she treated you?"
"Totally! You should've seen her when she was pregnant with you. She was so excited. She wouldn't stop talking about how cute you were going to be."
For some reason Hiro blushed, he didn't know why. It might have been the thought that his mother wanted to love him the same way as Tadashi. He was already loved by someone before he came into the world. "It's just too bad I'm never gonna meet her," he frowned.
"I wouldn't say that. She's right here."
Hiro's eyebrow raised. "What do you mean?"
"She's right here," Tadashi poked Hiro's heart. Hiro was confused but shrugged it off. "I really wish I caught a glimpse of mom before she died."
"Has Aunt Cass ever told about the tale of little wonders?"
"What?"
"The tale of Little Wonders. It was the little poem Cass was in love with. She and mom would always recite it to each other as kids." Hiro doesn't speak so he allows Tadashi to continue. "The world is full of wonders. And it can be overwhelming to take in all the wonders the universe has. So many things are out there that we don't know about. Some are good, some are bad. They make us happy, they make us sad. Yet you want know right away, it makes you anxious. But no matter how much you take in, more start to build, leaving you exhausted, confused, or maybe even upset. But you have all the time in the world. You don't have to know everything. You don't have to be perfect and solve everything. Just focus on being you. You are the one in control. You decide on how you live your life. That's when the big wonders start to fade and now you have little wonders. You don't worry about the future too much, you don't worry about your troubles, just cherish with what you have and keep moving forward. That's honestly all I know so far. Mama said that in time you will learn and understand the meaning when you take it to your own perspective. She told me the meaning is different to other people. So you have to be aware about how you feel."
"Little Wonders? Tadashi wasn't that the song Aunt Cass-"
"Used to sing to us?" Tadashi finished his sentence. "Mama also sang that song to me too. She even sang it when she was pregnant with you."
"Why me?"
"She probably sensed that you were going to face a lot of things in the future. And you still are to worried about the past and what might happen to you in the future. Relax Hiro. Right now you are safe and that's what's important." Hiro dazed off in wonder, trying to remember he meaning of the song. "And guess what, now it's our turn to pass on the tale of little wonders. Just like the sisters, we can be the brothers side by side to remind each other."
"Tadashi, was there an actual story about the song?"
"Yes there is...but it's getting late and we need to head off to bed. Tomorrow I'm taking you out to breakfast."
Hiro took in what Tadashi taught him and kept it in his head. Throughout the night, he kept thinking about the song and why was it that important to his family. But he soon ignored and went to sleep after being exhausted from the hectic events that took place that night. He'll figure it out later.
