Chapter 10
That's when the door slammed shut and relocked. Kid looked behind him. Then turned back around when he heard laughing. He pulled out his sword.
"Ghirahim… What are you doing here?" Kid asked.
"That's a good question. First, answer what you're doing here." Ghirahim said, even though he knew what Kid was here for. He just felt like being snarky.
"I'm here to bring my friends back home." Kid said.
"Ah, such a wonderful little boy, aren't you? Looking out for your friends, being the mature one." Ghirahim said, sounding falsely cheerful.
"If I'm not, who will? Where is Link and Midna?" Kid asked.
"They're right here." The room got brighter. Kid instantly saw Sky sitting on the ground, a chain wrapped around his waist and wrists, his legs chained to the floor. He looked to be knocked out and missing his hat. Midna was also knocked out and in a cage because she was so small. She was about 10 feet off the ground. "Surprised aren't you."
"What did you do to them?"
"Oh, I did nothing. It was your so called 'brother' who did this."
"Erryn wouldn't do that!" Kid yelled.
"Oh really? Then why do you think he led you down here and isn't in here himself?" That made Kid stop and think for a moment. "Don't you see, Erryn doesn't want to be on your side anymore? He prefers to be on my side."
"You did something to him. Erryn wouldn't do that!"
"How can you be so sure? Link, come on in, time to lock up the brat." The gate opened again and so did the door. Twi walked forward. Kid had turned around and had the sword pointing toward him. "Link, take that weapon away from him and capture him." Kid got a good look at Twi's eyes.
"They're dulled. Almost like, he's asleep with his eyes open. It's like he's sleep walking!" Twi's bow turned into a sword and he approached Kid. Kid backed up. "Erryn, wake up!" He didn't want to hurt him. "This can't be the Erryn I know."
"Oh, it is. If you hurt him, you'll be hurting your darling grandson." Ghirahim said, this time, not falsely cheerful, but more sadistically happy.
"You are the worst." Twi slashed his sword down, but Kid blocked it. Twi rolled behind him and attempted to slash at him from behind, but Kid blocked it. "Hey, that's my move! How'd you learn that?" Twi used a shield that came out of nowhere and hit Kid away with it. Kid had dropped his weapon when he fell back. "Where are you learning my moves?!" Kid rolled behind him and swept his foot on Twi's and made him fall over. "That move I had a feeling you didn't know." Twi started to get up. He grabbed Kid's arm, turned him around, then pinned him onto the ground. "Let go of me!" Ghirahim walked forward.
"Great job, Link. I'll do the honors." Kid kicked Twi in the stomach and got up.
"I'm not down yet." Ghirahim reached for him quickly, but he back flipped away, far enough where Ghirahim couldn't reach him in time.
"You're target is still moving, capture him." Ghirahim turned to Twi, he was laying on the ground, eyes closed, unmoving. You could barely tell he was breathing. "What the hell?!"
"You talk so badly about your home, don't you?" Ghirahim noticed the sword over on the side. Ghirahim turned to Kid and came toward him. Kid backed up.
"You did this, you little brat! I had a perfect slave." Ghirahim grabbed Kid by his neck. "You don't know how tempting it is to snap your neck." Kid couldn't breathe.
"L-l-et…go…" Ghirahim squeezed his neck harder.
"I still need you though. You and that girl, Zelda. You are both to be sacrificed in the ritual to bring my master back. Better let you live." Ghirahim threw kid across the room and made him hit against the wall. Kid struggled to get back up. He wasn't able to stand on his own two feet by the time Ghirahim made it over. He grabbed him by the front of his tunic. "I better be careful I guess. Can't have you die before I perform the ritual." Ghirahim snapped his fingers with his free hand and a cage appeared. He opened the door and threw Kid in. Since the cage was only in midair, the force caused it to go flying toward the wall and fall down to the ground. Ghirahim went to pick it up and looked inside it as if it were a puppy inside instead of a little boy. "This cage suits you for now, kid. You're going to die little brat."
"Fine by me. But I won't go down when the world's in trouble. You better learn that quickly. A chosen hero never gives up easily." Kid's voice sounded raspy from all the torment he was just through. He was barely awake also. Ghirahim let the cage hang there.
"Just you wait. In the meantime, I better get another ingredient needed for the ritual." Ghirahim snapped his fingers and disappeared. Kid looked over at Twi. Twi was just lying there on his side, lifeless, as if he were asleep, well… Kid hoped he was asleep. His chest was moving, though slowly, so that was a good sign. Kid turned his head slowly to Midna who was still knocked out. She looked to be fine. Sky looked to be fine as well. Kid knew he had a few bumps and bruises on himself. He had to figure out how to get free. He needed to get the others out. Kid tested the door of his cage and it swung open.
"Ghirahim's so stupid." He jumped down. Staggering a bit because it was a slightly far fall, especially since he was injured. He wobbled his way over to Sky. Sky was the only one tall enough to help him get Midna out. "Link." His voice sounded so weak. "Link, wake up." He tried to shake Sky's shoulders, but he wouldn't wake up. "Ok, what usually wakes me up…?" He thought for a minute. "Link!" He tried to shout loudly, but it didn't work so well, though Sky still woke up. "You're finally awake." Sky looked Kid over tiredly, he notice bruises starting to develop around Kid's neck.
"J-Jayk, what happened to you?" Sky asked.
"Ghirahim happened. I'll be fine. We need to get out of here. Ghirahim went after Zelda."
"Oh no!" He tried to get up, but forgot the chains.
"Calm down. I was able to open my cage door, maybe I can use some of my magic to unlock you, though it generally doesn't work, it's worth a try." Kid put a hand on the lock and focused. Nothing happened. Kid opened his eyes. "Darn it. Ok, um…" He pulled on the chains and the chains came undone. "You've got to be kidding me. Is Ghirahim really this careless?"
"I guess." Kid pulled the rest of the chains off. After Sky was able to stand up, Kid started coughing. He coughed into his hand. "Are you falling sick again?" Kid nodded and continued to cough. He finally was able to regain his breath. "Um, Jayk…"
"Huh?" Kid looked up at Sky.
"Does anything taste weird?"
"What do you mean?"
"Do you taste anything metallic?"
"Now that you mention it, I taste something slightly metal."
"Look at your hand." Kid looked down at his hand he coughed into.
"I'm coughing up blood?! What's wrong with me?!"
"It could be your wound on your stomach. We need to get you some help fast. It's already bleeding through your tunic." Kid looked down. There was a slight blood stain forming on the front of his tunic. "We have to hurry." Kid looked up.
"Don't forget about Erryn. He's over there, unconscious." Sky turned to where Kid was looking. "It wasn't his fault for what happened. You know that, right?"
"Of course."
"Good, because if you didn't, I'd probably slap you."
"Why?"
"Because, my grandson's not evil."
"It's still so weird with this whole time thing. Him being your grandson even though you're just a young kid."
"Yes it is, but we don't have time to discuss that. We need to get out of here, now."
"You're right." Sky turned around to Midna's cage. He could barely reach it even on the tip of his toes. He pulled it down so it was to his level and opened the cage door. "Midna, wake up." Kid looked around for something to wake her up and found his sword a bit away. He ran over to it and ran back. He used the sword to bang on the side of the cage.
"Midna! Wake up now!" Midna woke up and Kid stopped the loud banging noise.
"What happened?" Midna said. She was looking around a lot.
"Good, you're awake. Come on, we're getting out of here." Sky said.
"Um, ok." Sky helped her out and she floated around, trying to wake herself up. She saw Twi and instantly flew over to him. Sky picked up Kid and ran over to the two.
"Hey, put me down! I'm not a little kid!" Kid yelled. Once over there, Sky put him down. Midna looked up at them.
"What happened to him? Is he still possessed? Will he be ok?" Midna asked.
"I have no idea what happened, but I don't think he's possessed anymore and I hope he'll be ok." Kid said.
"I'll carry him out. Midna, you may need to help Jayk from time to time. His wound reopened." Sky said.
"Ok." Sky got Twi onto his back.
"Wow, he's lighter than I thought he'd be. He's still kind of heavy though." Sky thought aloud.
"Yea, he doesn't generally eat much. He's always so concerned about his friends and family." Midna explained.
"When we finally get through this, he and I are having some angry words." Kid said. They were at the door by this point. Kid tried to lift it up, but wasn't quite strong enough. He stepped back and pulled a bracelet out of his pocket.
"What's that?" Sky asked.
"It's called the Goron's bracelet. It helps me lift things a bit easier than my own strength." Kid went to try and lift the door again and it lifted up to the top. They walked through and it shut behind them. "How do we get out of here?"
"There's that door right there, once we go through there, it's basically just a straight shoot out of here. I don't have my sword, but I guess I'll come back for it some other time. We need to get you guys some help." Sky explained.
"I'll be fine." Midna said, implying that he should go find his weapon.
"Same here, my stomach hurts, but I'm a pretty tough kid." Kid said.
"I believe you on that, but you still shouldn't push yourself." They went over to the door and Kid opened it. Once through, the door closed again. They jumped on top of the log and onto land. They went out of this room and into a long hallway, there they found the exit.
"Ah, fresh air. I thought I'd never smell it again." Kid said.
"You're such a weird child." Midna said.
"Yes I am." Kid agreed with a smile. Sky walked over to the bird statue.
"Come on guys." Sky called.
"Ok." Kid took one step, then fell to his hands and knees, he started coughing badly. Some blood had come out of his mouth again. Sky set Twi down against the bird statue and ran over. He knelt down in front of him.
"Will you be able to make it ok?" Sky asked.
"Yea. I just need a moment." He was trying to regain his breath. Sky pulled a little cloth out of his pocket.
"Here, you'll probably need this. I can get another one." Kid looked up. Some blood was trailing down from his mouth. He sat on his knees and took the cloth from Sky's hand.
"Thanks." His voice sounded so weak. He wiped his mouth with the cloth. "I can't wait until we get back. I need something to drink to get rid of this metallic taste in my mouth."
"We'll get you something to drink back home. Are you sure you'll be able to make it?"
"Yea, this is nothing. I just don't have any red potion to take the edge off of the pain, that's all." Kid struggled a bit to stand back up, Sky helped him and they walked back over to the statue. Midna floated closely.
"Make sure you two hang on tight." Sky picked Twi back up on his back. Kid grabbed tightly onto Sky's leg and Midna held onto his other leg. "To the sky." Air lifted them up into the clouds and Sky whistled for his Loftwing. It caught them all and started making its way toward Skyloft. "It's a good thing it's still day time, but not for much longer."
"We managed to escape in time." They made it to Skyloft and landed on the ground safely. There were a few who were in the plaza who saw them and ran to help them. Orielle and Parrow.
"What happened to you guys?" Orielle asked.
"We'll explain that later. We need help." Sky said.
"Ok."
"Thanks, Erryn won't wake up and Jayk can't walk very well on his own. I'd say he's the worst out of us."
"Ok. Here, I'll take Erryn off your hands. Sis, you help Jayk ok?" Parrow said.
"Right." Orielle said. Sky set Twi down and Parrow picked him back up onto his back.
"We need to get back to the Knight Academy." The group went over to the Knight Academy. Kid collapsed midway up the steps. Orielle put a hand on his back while he was coughing. He was still coughing up blood.
"Can you go further?" Orielle asked.
"I have to try." Kid said. Sky turned around and sat in front of him.
"No you don't. Here, let me help you." Sky said and picked him up like you'd pick up a little kid. Kid wanted to struggle free, but didn't have the energy.
"N-no, I'll be fine… just tired, 's all." His eyes were closed and he seemed barely awake.
"Yes, and it wouldn't be wise to strain yourself." Sky said. They started walking again. Kid had fallen asleep by the time they got to the top of the stairs. They made it to the Academy. Orielle opened the door and held it open for them. Fledge was lifting up barrels for the cook again. He heard the door open and saw them.
"Hey, there you guys are. We were worried about you. What happened to them?" Fledge asked.
"I'll tell you later, Fledge. Is Zelda here?" Sky asked.
"Yea, want me to go get her?"
"Yes, we need to get these two to bed."
"Alright." Fledge set the barrel down and ran toward the stairs. The rest of the group went to Sky's room where the beds were already spread out. Sky set Kid down on his bed and Parrow set Twi down on his bed.
"I guess we'll go ahead and leave." Orielle said.
"Thanks for your help you guys." Sky said. Orielle left with her brother. Shortly after, Zelda and Fledge walked in. Sky had stood up and Zelda ran over to him and hugged him.
"Link, thank the Goddesses you're ok." She sounded like she was crying. Sky hugged her back. "I was so worried about you guys. When Jayk ran off, I was about to come looking for you, but I'm so glad you're back on your own." Zelda took a deep breath and let it out. She stopped hugging Sky and stepped away. "Sorry, I was just so worried and all…"
"It's ok, Zelda. I know the feeling." Zelda smiled then turned to Kid. She knelt down and lifted up Kid's tunic to see the wound.
"Link, I need some bandages. Fledge, go get some towels, ok?" She ordered.
"Ok." They said in unison. The two boys left the room.
"Midna, help me sit him up, ok?" She asked.
"Alright." Midna flew over and helped Zelda rest Kid against a table. Zelda took off his tunic. Fledge returned with some towels.
"Thanks, Fledge." She set them down and undid Kid's bandages. "The wound is starting to become infected. Fledge, go get some red potion."
"Right." Fledge ran out of the room, but ran into Sky and they both fell down. Midna knew this was a serious moment, but she couldn't help but laugh.
"Ah, that hurt…" Fledge mumbled.
"You two ok?" Zelda asked.
"Meh…" Sky replied.
"Yea, he's ok." Midna said.
"How did you know?" Zelda asked.
"My Link does that too when he gets hurt. I know he's ok when he says that." Midna said.
"You two must have a strong bond for you to know him that well."
"I've known the kid for about 6 months, so I think I know him pretty well." Sky and Fledge got back up. Sky held his head as he walked in. Fledge went ahead to the downstairs exit.
"Here's the bandages." Sky said and handed them to her.
"Thanks." Zelda took them from him and set them down too. "Link, we have a problem." She said, she started to clean the wound with the towel.
"What?"
"Jayk's wound is infected. I don't know what to do."
"Well, how do you un-infect a wound?"
"I don't know. I'm thinking of something that you may not like."
"What?"
"Once I patch him up, I'll send both him and me back to his time. I think I found his timeline and I want to take him back home, but he obviously can't go home on his own like this. That's why I should go with him. Plus, it will protect him from becoming Ghirahim's sacrifice. I'll return, don't worry."
"Are you sure that's the only way?"
"I think so. I think they'll have better technology and ideas on how to deal with something like this. I know he won't be happy about it, but it's what has to be done in order for him to live."
"I understand. I just don't want to see you go. When are you going to leave?"
"Once I bandage him up, I'll wash his tunic and we'll go."
"Ok."
"What about my Link? He won't wake up. I tried the way I usually do to wake him up and it won't work." Midna asked.
"I'll take a look at him in a second." Zelda started to bandage Kid's wound. After she was done, she handed Kid's tunic to Sky. "Go wash this while I figure out what's wrong with Erryn."
"Ok." Sky took the small tunic and walked out of the room, just as Fledge was about to walk in. They pass eachother, Fledge had looked at Sky, but Sky didn't bother looking up. He noticed that there was some tears starting to go down Sky's face, but he wasn't able to see his eyes, since his bangs were covering them.
"Hey Zelda, did something happen? I could have sworn I saw Link crying." Fledge asked. Zelda looked up from where she was sitting. She looked down.
"I'm going to be leaving soon. As you could tell, Link isn't too happy about it." Zelda said.
"Oh really? Where are you going?" Fledge asked.
"Somewhere, where I can get Jayk some help. I'll need your help to protect those here while I'm gone."
"Ok. I understand. It'll be sad to see you go, but you have to do what you have to do."
"Thanks for understanding." Fledge smiled and set the red potion on the desk.
"Let me know when you're about to leave so I can say goodbye to you two."
"Ok." Fledge left the room again. Zelda looked Twi over. "I know the problem."
"What? What's wrong with him? Will he wake up?" Midna said. She was on the verge of panic.
"I don't think he will." Zelda said. Midna felt like her heart sank to her stomach. She sat on the ground.
"What do you mean? Is he… dead?" Midna asked.
"No, he's breathing and his heart still beats. The problem is, he doesn't have his triforce anymore. He won't ever wake up until it's returned to his body." Zelda explained.
"Oh… Then, I'll go find it. I'll do anything… just to see his beautiful eyes again." She said that last part in a low whisper. Though, Zelda was able to hear it.
"You like him, don't you? In the same way I love my Link."
"Um, no…" She started to blush. "I would never like my Link in that way. He's just a friend, ally, companion, partner. I just need him to get back home and put an end to my enemy's reign over my people." Midna said.
"Sure you do."
"I do. That's my only reason for tagging along with him. Also, if I don't watch over the idiot, who will?"
"Midna, don't lie to yourself. You know you love him. You care a lot about him and you really hate yourself for not being able to protect him. I can tell. You're angry at yourself because you feel you could have saved him from this." Midna fell silent. She closed her eyes. "You know, once he gets his triforce back, your face would probably be the one he'd want to see first. Even though I haven't known him as long as you have, I can tell he likes you in the same way. You should talk to him about it. Who knows, you might end up together with him." Midna opened her eyes.
"You know, you're just like your descendant, Zelda. Always caring and full of wisdom. Thanks." Midna said.
"No problem Midna. It only seemed like you needed a girl to girl chat with someone." Zelda said. There was a knock on the door and the door opened.
"Why did I know on my own bedroom door?" Sky said as he walked in.
"I don't know, why did you?" Zelda asked.
"I don't know. Anyway, here's his tunic." Sky handed it to her and sat down on his bed.
"Thanks for washing this." It was dry already too. "How'd you get it dry so quickly?"
"I used a cloth to dab at the blood on it. Then I used a dry cloth to soak up the water."
"Thanks."
"No problem." The room was silent as Zelda went over to Kid and put the tunic back on him. She slipped it on him.
"Hey, Link." Zelda said.
"Yea?" Sky replied.
"We have a problem with Erryn."
"What?"
"Well, he won't be waking up any time soon. His triforce was stolen, probably by Ghirahim."
"Oh." Sky stood up. "Then I guess I better find it while you're gone. If Jayk comes back, I don't think he wants to see Erryn still asleep like this. Who knows how long you guys will be gone."
"Right. I'm going to pack up a few things that I'll need and then get going. Let Fledge know, ok?"
"Ok. Where should we meet?"
"I guess in the plaza."
"Alright. I'll get Fledge and we'll meet there."
"Ok." Sky left the room. Zelda stood up. "Midna, while Link's looking for Erryn's triforce, I'd suggest you stay here so that you and Fledge can look after him."
"I'm going with him. I want to help in any way I can." Midna said.
"Alright, do what you see best. Keep an eye on these two for now, I'm going to go get my bag."
"Ok." Zelda left the room too. Now, it was just Midna, Kid, and Twi. She looked between the two. "I can't believe these two are even related." Midna pulled Twi's blanket off. He was starting to sweat a bit. She undid his tunic and slipped it off so he was just in his leggings and undershirt. She then took off his boots and put them to the side. She then covered him back up after taking his hat off too. She felt his forehead, but it didn't feel warm, which was a good thing. She felt Kid's and it felt kind of warm. "Guess he has a fever. That's to be expected with infections." She took her hand away. Zelda came back with a small bag and put the bandages and the bottle of red potion inside.
"Midna, can you help me?" Zelda asked.
"With what?" Midna asked.
"While I carry Jayk, can you carry my bag?"
"Sure." Zelda handed her the bag, then picked Kid up like a mother would pick up a toddler, where his chin was resting on her shoulder. (Kid's really that small XD). Zelda walked out and Midna floated behind her. The bag was actually slightly heavy. "What all do you have in here?"
"I have about 1000 rupees, the bottle of red potion and those bandages. I want to make sure I have plenty of money for a doctor since I don't know how much doctor expenses are in Jayk's time."
"I see." They made it out to the Plaza. Fledge, Groose, and Sky were waiting there.
"Hi guys." She said.
"Hey." Sky said.
"Is it true, are you really leaving?" Groose asked.
"Yes. It won't be for a long time, I promise. I just need to get Jayk some help." Zelda said.
"Zelda. Please, be careful." Sky said. He looked so worried.
"I will, Link." Zelda assured.
"You better come back alive, last thing we need is a dead princess." Fledge said.
"I'm not a princess." Zelda said.
"You are in our minds, Zelda. Tell us about Jayk's home, ok?" Sky said with a smile.
"I will. Bye everyone." Midna handed Zelda her bag.
"Bye, Zelda." Sky said, sadness was really strong in his voice.
"Bye, Zellie." Groose said.
"See you soon." Fledge said.
"Bye." Midna said simply. Zelda smiled then closed her eyes. She started to glow and then within a bright flash, they were gone. Midna looked over to Sky, who looked down.
"She better return." Sky said.
"She will. You love and trust her, don't you?" Midna asked.
"Of course. Now, I need to leave. I need to find a way to get Erryn to wake up." Sky said.
"I'm coming with you. Erryn is my companion, I'm responsible for him." Midna said.
"I'll stay here and keep an eye on things. Groose, want to help?" Fledge asked.
"Yea, no problem." Groose said.
"Alright. Let's get ready." Sky said.
~Kid's time~
Zelda appeared with a bright flash in the center of a large area. She was standing on a stone slab with a picture underneath it and a triforce. There were walls all around, an entrance to something too high to reach, and a stump near said entrance. She turned behind her and saw a possible way out. She started to walk forward when she heard footsteps. She ran over to the side and hid. A little girl came up the stairs. She had short green hair pulled back in a green headband. She wore a similar outfit to Kid's. Zelda walked forward a bit.
"Um, excuse me." The girl turned around. She stepped back a bit. "Don't be afraid. I won't hurt you. I need your help."
"With what?" She asked, a bit timidly.
"Well, this boy here. He needs medical attention. Is there a town nearby?" Zelda asked.
"Not really. The closest town is about a 5 hour walk from here."
"Is there anything that can be done for him here?"
"We can try… Can I take a look?"
"Sure." Zelda set Kid down. The girl gasped. "What?"
"That's… my friend." She sat down next to him and brushed the bangs out of his face. "I knew it. It IS him. It's Link. I'll get help for him right away." She stood up and pulled out an instrument. She began to play a song. It sounded airy and fun. After a few moments, she stopped. "Help will be on the way. So, what happened? Who are you?"
"I don't know entirely what happened, but he was stabbed in the stomach and now his wound's infected. I don't have any way to treat him where I'm from. Also, my name's Zelda." Zelda said.
"Wow, you have the same name as the Princess." The girl said.
"What's your name?" Zelda asked.
"Just call me Saria." The girl known as Saria said.
Wow, this is the longest chapter I've ever written for this story. I think this is the longest chapter I've ever written. It'll be a bit interesting in the next chapter, so I hope you'll look forward to it.
See ya
