What If This Storm Ends?

Chapter 10

Carlisle has managed to get Garrett to Washington.

It's so much nicer with him close.

He's always here and he's a huge help with things around the house as well.

Renovations are almost finished, which is great because I don't know how much longer I'm going to last.

Carlisle and my doctor tell me not to worry, but I know my body and the way my belly is tightening and my back is hurting, I think it could be any day.

All I know is I can't wait to meet my little bundles of joy.

"Garrett, I'm so glad we got everything cleared up with that tramp, I can't believe she was going to try and pass someone else's kid off as yours!" I shouted.

"Mom. Calm yourself. I don't feel like delivering my sibling's." Garrett laughed.

"I'm just saying. She's crazy. Glad she's in Cali and you're here. We'll find you a good girl." I patted his arm, which turned into a squeeze and a scream.

"Mom?" Garrett looked at me with wide eyes.

"It's OK. It's over." I panted.

"OK, I'm counting though. That hurt like hell." He rubbed his arm and I laughed.

"I didn't hurt you." I shook my head.

"Let me make us some lunch. Grandpa will be home from therapy and will be grumpy and hungry, Carlisle will be exhausted. He'll have to nap for a couple hours." I stood up and waddled to the kitchen, Garrett following closely.

"Sandwiches ma and I'm helping." He gets everything out and we make sandwiches and get the iced tea ready for them, green tea for me, some chips and veggies with dips.

We'd just set everything out when they came in the door.

"Oh thank goodness food. No one lets me eat at that damn hospital, they starve me to death." My dad grumbled as he plopped in his chair and took a long drink of his iced tea.

"Hey babe." Carlisle kissed my cheek.

I was going to kiss him back when I doubled over in pain.

"That's twenty minutes mom." Garrett looked at Carlisle and I sternly.

"What do you mean twenty minutes?" Carlisle asked.

"I mean she had another one twenty minutes ago." Garrett sighed.

"I'm fine. I think they're just jockeying for position." I joked.

"Bella. That's not even funny." My dad grumbled.

"No jokes dad." I kissed his cheek and he smiled.

We sat down to eat after it passed and my back was tightening.

"Come take a nap with me babe. Garrett will you be OK with Charlie until the nurse arrives in about a half hour?" Carlisle asked.

"Of course. We'll settle in for some sports, beer and relaxation." Garrett smiled at Charlie.

"One beer Garrett, that's all he can have with his medicine, got it?" I chastised.

"Got it mom." Garrett waved us off so we could rest.

I passed out as soon as I hit the pillow.

I woke up later feeling like a hot sweaty mess and alone in bed, Carlisle must have left for work.

I waddled to the bathroom and stripped out of everything and took a shower, only to have a massive contraction and a strange sensation run down my legs. Thicker than water.

I quickly washed off and pulled on my panties and a loose dress.

Sitting in the chair in my room and I text Garrett as I slid my feet into my sandals.

He came running into my room pulling a t-shirt over his head.

"Is it time?" he asked smiling.

"Yes, I think my water broke." I winced at the pain.

"OK, contractions?" he asked.

"Just one about fifteen minutes ago." I assured him.

"Fifteen minutes mom?" he chastised.

"I had to get dressed Garrett. You wanna see your mom naked?" I asked.

"Not unless it's life or death." He sighed.

"OK then." I laughed.

"Let's go." He shook his head and helped me up.

He woke dad and the nurse on our way out to let him know where we were going.

Dad was furious and wanted to go.

The nurse said she'd get him around and meet us there.

Garrett rushed us towards the hospital as I called Carlisle.

"Bella? What's wrong?" he asked in a panic.

"We're on our way in. My water just broke. Contractions are about fifteen minutes apart." I screamed as one hit.

"Have Garrett drive to the ER drop off, I'll give him a parking pass and be waiting for you, be safe. I love you." Carlisle sighed.

"I love you too." I hung up and gave Garrett the info.

We arrived at the hospital and Carlisle helped me out, I was a panting mess and my dress was wet.

"Glad we brought your car mom." Garrett joked.

"Garrett…" I started to scold him as I got into the wheelchair.

"Just kidding mom." Garrett laughed. "I'll get your car detailed later. No worries." He shook his head and parked as Carlisle wheeled me in.

He caught up to us at the elevator.

"You ready for this?" he asked squeezing my hand.

"Yes." I smiled.

Carlisle rushed us to labor and delivery and they got me prepped while he got scrubbed up and changed into clean scrubs and ready to join me for the delivery of our babies.

"You ready for this?" he asked.

"Yes. The doctor said I'm 4 centimeters and I should be good to do this natural." I smiled.

"Heartbeats sound good, but you know they'll have to go to NICU for a while right?" he asked.

"Yeah, I know." I nodded.

After ten hours of labor they were all born.

Carlisle Jr. came first (I'm sure he won't let his sister's ever forget it) he was 4 pounds 2 ounces, next came Sara she was 4 pounds even and then our tiniest was Rebekah she was 3 pounds and 8 ounces. I wasn't able to hold any of them, they were all rolled away to NICU immediately their lungs underdeveloped and Rebekah had a tiny hole in her heart, Carlisle said it was an easy fix, he'd done the surgery a million times, when she was stronger they'd fix hers too, she was fine for now.

He took pictures of them all for me and said we could visit them in a couple of days.

I was rolled into recovery where I slept for a few hours, waking up they had me go to the bathroom and then moved me to my room.

Everyone came to visit and Garrett and Carlisle had tons of pictures of the babies for everyone.

They were all going crazy over the babies.

By morning everyone had made their way to the hospital to congratulate us.

I was exhausted and tried to sleep in between guests and doctor's visits.

Finally everyone had left for the day.

"Do you want to go see our babies?" Carlisle asked.

"Yes." I practically squealed.

"OK. Let me get you a chair." He kissed me softly.

We went to NICU and I they had them all together, bundled tightly, Rebekah had a special monitor on her and Carlisle told me that was for her heart. He said it was strong, but it would miss a beat every so often, and that's what they had to fix.

I was able to touch them with the specialized gloves that reach inside.

They were so tiny I was almost afraid to touch them.

"Bella, it's OK. It's good for them. Talk to them. They know your voice." Carlisle urged.

I talked to them and told them their names, it would be easy to tell them apart.

C.J of course because he was the boy, but Sara had hair like mine and Rebekah was bald, no hair whatsoever, poor little thing, she was my tiny angel.

"Babe, it's time to go. They've got to run some tests and then feed them." He smiled sadly.

"When do I get to feed my own babies?" I asked.

"Hopefully in a couple of days, they should be stable enough for us to do so." He smiled as he helped me into bed.

"OK, I just feel like I'm missing a really big step." I cried.

"It'll be OK. Get some sleep. I've got to do some rounds, I'll be back later." He kissed me softly before leaving.

I fell into a deep sleep, knowing my sleep would be coming to an end real soon.
