Tris has been acting strange since the party. She walked out f the room with a confused Shauna following, but instead of coming back, she just walked right out the door.
Shauna swears she didn't say anything and we all believe her, but then what's going on?
I'm sitting here in the middle of an Pre-Calculus test, three days later, pondering the possibilities. I look over at her. She has her head tilted down and she's writing quickly. When she sees me looking, she looks away quickly.
No smirk, or joke, just looks away. When the bell rings, and she's packing up I decide to speak to her.
"Tris, are you okay?"
"I'm fine."
"You don't seem fine."
"I'm just tired." She keeps her eyes down.
"Tris-"
"Four I'm fine okay? I just haven't gotten much sleep."
"I know you better than that."
She pauses for a second, but then closes her bag and stands up.
"Not right now you don't."
"Then tell me."
"I'm just tired."
"Look at me." She hasn't all day, and I wonder if I'll be able to read her.
She looks up and I meet her calm blue-grey eyes, I involuntarily relax. Then she blinks and looks away.
"Do you need a ride home?" I know that her truck broke down yesterday and she took the bus here.
"I'll take the bus."
"Come on Tris you hate the bus."
"I- Okay, but I have dance." I shrug and she leaves the room. I stand there watching her. What the hell is going on?
The rest of the day is a buzz, when the end bell finally rings after Tris's dance class, she follows me out of the building.
"Ladies first." I open the car door, and she jumps in. I've got a black oldtimer jeep. And I love it.
I walk around the car and hop in as well. I put the key in the ignition, but don't turn it.
"Tris, please talk to me."
"I already told you there's nothing wrong."
"We both know that's not true."
"You mean I know but you don't."
"You're admitting it."
"I know." She turns her head out the window.
"Please, Tris, I want to help."
"Well you cant." She puts a hand on her head. "At least not how you'd want to."
"I doubt it Tris."
"Please Four just drive me home."
I watch her for a moment. Then I turn the ignition and start the car. The radio turns on and I hear Love Me Like You Do from Ellie Goulding. Tris looks up at the radio and I get an idea.
"I'll let you set the pace, but I'm not thinking straight," I mumble, Tris looks over at me and I hold a smile.
"My heads spinnin around I cant see clear no more." I glance over at her and she looks away but I see a small smile curling at the curl of her lips.
"What are you waiting for?" I am basically embarrassing myself. But I don't care, because she's smiling.
"Love me Like you do la la love me like you do." And now he's laughing the light laugh that I haven't heard in forever.
"Love me like you do la la love me like you do." And then I realize that she's singing along.
She isn't the best singer, it's true, but she's better than me. And she has a really cool talking voice so it sounds fine.
By the time I pull up to her house, we've sung along to two more songs.
She opens the door, and walks out of the car. She gives me a bright smile, and heads into her house.
And I finally let myself believe what I've known for awhile. That, for the first time in my life, I'm falling for someone.
Please Review.
