Chapter 10- A Routine Addiction

Eve's POV

My eyes opened hesitantly as streams of light poured through my window and onto my face. I glanced curiously up at the window seeing the boards that were once there, were gone. I twisted my sore body up and tried to unravel my long legs from the thin blanket on my bed. I stood slowly and stretched as I went, loosening the kinks in my body. My slender fingers reached up towards the high window sill and carefully ran them across the rough edges of the wall and window ledge. My small feet relaxed from the tip-toe position they were in as I turned around. I felt hot and sticky,

"I need a shower" I mumble as I start removing my clothes. I reach into my tall cupboard and pulled out my all too familiar black robe. I quickly trotted upstairs and into the bathroom, narrowly avoiding everyone. I slipped off my robe and jumped into the shower. I stood under the hot pressure of the water as it cascaded down my back. I ran my fingers through my thick blue hair as it wetted and applied my shampoo and conditioner. After thoroughly washing out the reminder of the soap I stepped out of the shower. I carefully rapped one of the black towels around myself and walked towards the mirror. My small hand slid across the smooth glass to remove the fog from it. I stared back at myself seeing my wet blue hair hung loosely from my face; I look up at my big blue eyes which seem slightly paler than normal. A faint bruise littered across my face and by my nose, I brought my finger up to trace it the bruise making me wince slightly. I pulled on my undergarments, then slipped the fluffy robe onto my shoulders, and I quickly gathered my clothes. I opened the door to rush back to my room only to be greeted by Ashley.

"Hey how was your night loser?" She mocked. I grimaced recalling last night and tried to ignore Ashley and walk past her, but no such luck.

"Answer me brat!" She shrieked as she flicks her long blonde hair over her shoulders. I looked down at her and replied

"It was fine." I grid my teeth together as she continues

"That's not what dad said!" She ran off giggling, so I was free to go. I quickly took two steps forward only to run into Clark's chest.

"We're you off to in such a hurry sis?" He questioned,

"My room." I manage to squeak out. He laughs at this and leans down to my ear making me coil away from him, but his arms roughly grab mine to keep me in place.

"Going to fuck another man in your room?" He stressed the man part as he whispered in my ear. Tears spring to my eyes but I didn't let him see, I couldn't. I quickly escaped from his grasp and ran down the stairs to my room, closing the door as I went I could hear Clark laughing. I sighed and shut my eyes tightly,

"I just want it all to go away" I whispered solemnly. I sighed once again and walked over to my cabinet opening the small wooden door; I pulled out a black pair of skinny jeans and quickly shimmied into them. As I hopped into my jeans I quickly pulled a long sleeved teal and grey shirt over my head shifting it slightly. I zipped up my jeans then pulled on my tattered ankle boots. I slowly made my way up the stairs trying to be silent, I grabbed my bag as I went and manage to narrowly dart through the house. I quickly walked down the gravel driveway recalling the events of earlier and sped up my pace, blushing slightly remembering Damon. I began my long walk towards the school. I let a puff of misty air escape my lips with a sigh,

"It's getting cold" I mumble as my boots crunched across loose pieces of frost covered leaves and another puff of air came from my lips. After a few minutes of walking along the long sidewalk an all too familiar car pulled alongside it and the passenger side door swung open. I went to keep walking but decided against it and quickly slid into the seat, sighing slightly as my cool frame made contact with the warm interior of the car.

"Thanks "I gasp out as I pull my numb hands toward my mouth blowing my hot breath upon them. He nodded silently as I rubbed my hands together hoping to get some friction between the soft pads of my fingers and palm.

Damon's POV

As I drove along the all too familiar road I saw a small girl walking along the sidewalk shivering as she did so. I identified her as Eve when I saw the fluorescent blue hair whipping around her in the wind. I immediately recalled the events of last night and cringed slightly as it all came back in a blur. I pulled up beside her and opened the door for her, as I saw her freezing hands. I saw her hesitate slightly but nonetheless she walked towards the car and hopped in. She brought her delicate hands to her face trying to warm them up; I reached over and turned on the heat letting warm air blow onto her cold frame. We drove in silence towards the school and the only thing that I could think of was last night. My hands immediately tightened on the steering wheel as I tried to keep myself calm.

"How was the rest of your night?" I asked almost not wanting to know the answer. She shifted slightly in her seat and brought her hands down to her lap, fiddling with them ever so slightly

"It was f-fine" her voice cracked on the last word making me regret ever asking. I went to speak again but a chime of words floated through the air before I could "We're here" she replies her face hidden behind her hair. I nod and turn into the wide parking lot of the school. Many people starred as I parked and I could tell Eve was uncomfortable with the stares.

"Thanks for the ride Damon" she says quietly. I nod again and she slowly exits the car with her small hands clenched around her bag. I frown slightly and quickly get out of the car. She turns around surprised but before she could say anything I take the few steps towards her and quickly press my lips against hers. She kissed back slowly ignoring the people around us gawking. Her lips were soft and sweet but after a minute or so I pulled away,

"Just thought you could use something to cheer you up, think of this as luck for your real first day" I whispered referring to the day before when we skipped. She licked her lips and nodded

"Thanks Damon" she says blushing slightly. I smile and give her small hand a squeeze and make my way over to my car. She waves slightly and I wave back. With my vampire hearing I hear her take a deep breath as she turns around to walk towards the students who stare. I quickly reverse and pull out of the parking lot.

Eve's POV

I clenched and unclenched my hands nervously as people starred and whispered all around me. I quickly trotted into the building not wanting to be the centre of attention. I walked into the building only to run into a mess of brown hair causing me to fall on my ass,

"great" I muttered. A small brunette leaned down beside me helping me pick up my belongs that scattered across the floor. She handed them over to me and I stuffed them into my bag zipping it up all the way this time. We both stood up and I looked up finally meeting my blue eyes with her chocolate brown. I brushed the imaginary dirt off my jeans

"Elena right?" I asked softly a smile flittered onto her olive tone skin that showed each of her perfect teeth glistening

"yeah. So Eve how was your first day I didn't see you yesterday..." She trails off slightly and I go to tell her about Damon but quickly retract my answer and shrug. "I uh..Do you know where...?" I trailed off looking at the crumpled schedule in my pocket

"uh, gym with Mrs. Lane is?" I questioned "she nodded,

"I can show you the way if you like" I smiled slightly not really meaning it. She quickly shuffled through the hall with me falling closely behind. I stuffed my hands into the pockets of my jeans nervously, I can't believe she remembered my name and I pretty much forgot hers. I mentally kicked myself and walked with Elena up to a pair of large double doors with 'mystic falls high school' scrawled across the doors in a bold font.

"Here we are!" She exclaimed brightly, a large smile stretched across her beautiful face as she spoke

"I'll see you in lunch" She finished as she turned around waving slightly and meeting up with a tall blonde haired, typical all American girl and a stunning dark skinned girl. I huffed as I tuned away from Elena waving slightly, was anyone here ugly? I sighed again as I opened the two large doors walking into the gym. My beat up shoes scuffed across the shiny gym floors as I walk towards a large door with 'girls' written across the top. Just as I was about to reach the door it slams open almost knocking me over. My thin frame stumbles back as I struggle to regain my footing, my blue eyes shoot upwards to be met with big green ones. "Did I hit ya'll with door? My bad!" A tall red haired girl says sarcastically as a slick southern tone rolls off her tongue,

"better watch were you're goin' never know when you're gunna...trip!" A laugh escaped her lips sounding more like a cackle then a laugh as she walks by me pushing me over slightly making me trip. I catch myself on the door jamb to stop myself from falling I turn my head slightly

"Bitch" I mumble over my shoulder staring back at her, her back stiffens slightly but she continues and all I can think to myself is how could she possibly hear that.

I pulled on the loose material of my gym shorts; this is humiliating I thought to myself.

"Ten laps around the field!" Mrs. Lane yells, her voice was screechy and loud. Is it possible to hate someone so soon? I jogged around a large soccer pole

"eight more laps" she yells out again. Yes I think to myself, it is definitely possible to hate someone so soon. I jog another two laps before my side starts to hurt and I slow down

"Faster girls!" She screeches out in my direction.

"Fuck off" I mumble as I slow down to a fast walk, lets see her fat ass run around this field like 78 times. My hand reaches up and rest against the slight curve in my torso as a slight tremor of pain goes through it. I hear her screech again making me wince at the high pitch of her yell; did I mention I hate gym? After gym was done I changed back into my clothes thankful to be out of the loose gym shorts. I pulled my crumpled schedule from my jeans pocket, smoothing out the wrinkles amongst the ripped and refolded paper I looked at my next class, English.

"Great" I muttered sarcastically that's nowhere near gym... I think.

I opened the thick wooden door with grunt as I stumbled into the class making my hair sprawl in front of my face blurring my vision slightly. I used my free hand, not occupied by an assortment of text books and binders and pushed back my brightly coloured hair out of my slightly reddened face. I looked up to see most people staring at my with open mouthed expressions, which only made me more self conscious causing me to rub the back of my neck with the hand I used to slide my hair back

"uh...is this English with Mr. Daniels?" I questioned. A tall man who looked around twenty-six turned around from a full chalkboard, brushed his chalk ridden hands on his pants and motioned me forward. I gingerly followed his command and stepped towards him closing the door and adjusting the small school bag as I walked. A friendly smile rippled onto his features and he looked towards his desk searching through the maze of papers

"you must be...uhm" he stuttered searching for a paper I can only assume had my information on it "Eve" I mumbled quietly, his head snapped up

"right, Evelyn" he said as realization blossomed onto his features.

"Eve" I corrected immediately, shuttering of the thought of James calling me Evelyn. He looked slightly shocked but nodded none the less

"uhm...alright take a seat then..." He replied trailing off, for an English teacher he doesn't really have a way with words. I wordlessly weaved my way between the many rows of tables and chairs until I reached an empty one in the back row. I dropped my bag lightly onto the floor and sat down onto the creaky chair. I placed my head onto my hand; my long nails decorated with black nail polish clicked against the smooth wood of the table. I glanced out the large window beside my table and adjoining chair to see a familiar blue car pull into the parking lot of the school with a screech. A smile fell onto my face without me even realizing it as I flicked my eyes back towards the chalkboard, counting the minutes till class was over. The loud school bell rang in my ears signalling the end of class and the beginning of lunch. I quickly scrambled out of my seat and made my way towards the parking lot. I opened the pair of large doors and spotted Damon's car quickly. He leaned against the door of the car his arms crossed and his attention at the main doors I excited from. A smile graced my face as I walked towards him as he pushed himself off the car and made his way towards me. I was about ten feet away from him when I felt a hand on my shoulder causing my feet to pause and head to turn. I was met with the large brown eyes of Elena. I met Damon's gaze with a flick of my eyes before fully turning towards Elena. A slightly strained smile, that didn't meet my eyes slid onto my face as I scraped together my social skills "Oh Elena," I said going with a slightly wide eyed shocked expression. She smiled at me; her perfect white teeth on display making me subconsciously close the small gap between my lips showing my teeth.

"Eve!" She exclaimed with waves of joy flourished off her

"You should have lunch with my friends and I" I turned my head back slightly seeing Damon back against his sleek car, his emotions hidden by a newly arrived pair of black sunglasses. I turned back towards the awaiting Elena

"I would love to but I have other plans" I said biting my lip

"Another time?" I offered, finishing off lamely. Her 500 watt smile dimmed slightly but still shone brighter than mine.

"Of course!" She turned to leave but paused and turned back towards me pivoting on one of her small feet

"With whom?" She asked abruptly curiosity filling her brown doe eyes.

"W-what?" I stuttered out, a tint of red now staining my pale cheeks.

"Who are your lunch plans with?" She asked facing me again. My breath caught in my throat and my eyes went wide as I stared at her; racking my brain for a lie, nothing not one single lie. I gulped down a mouthful of air and opened my mouth but no sound came out. I licked my lips and tried again

"I uh..." I closed my eyes for a brief moment then opened them again gaining my composer

"I'll just reschedule, I would love to have lunch with you" A knot of guilt tied its way into my stomach making a lump form in my throat as I followed Elena's swift movements and long strides back to the school. I turned my head around and mouthed 'I'm sorry' just to see him nod curtly and get back into his car, driving off with a skid of tires and smoke. I hung my head slightly as I walked back towards the school, kicking myself for not thinking of a lie to tell her. She stopped abruptly making me stumble slightly as she sat at a table with the blonde and dark skinned girls from earlier, who perched on the large picnic table. I joined them placing my thin messenger bag on the table awkwardly. My straight blue hair fell around my face as I picked my nail polish off and tried to think of something to say. Before I could say anything the perky blonde thrust her perfectly manicured hand out in front of me

"Hi! I'm Caroline" she gestured to the pretty dark skinned girl beside her, with the flick of her head

"and that's Bonnie". My slim hand shook hers, only to recoil my hand quickly as a string of bruises and cuts came to the light.

"N-nice to meet you" I stuttered out. Both girls raised their eyebrows at me slightly, but smiled none the less. Elena's smooth voice floated over the awkward tension in the room

"What do you have for lunch Eve?" She asked pulling out a sandwich and a shiny red apple. I shrugged awkwardly, fiddling with the strap on my bag

"Uhm...I'm not hungry" I said lamely. None the less the three girls nodded excepting my answer and continued eating their appetizing lunches.

"So, Eve who did you move here with?" Bonnie asked curiously, taken another bite of her large fruit cup. My eyes met hers as I spoke

"With my parents and my brother and sister." She nodded in response, swallowing a mouth full of fruit cup

"Do your siblings go to school here?"

"No." I stated bluntly. She smiled apologetically at me as Caroline butted into the conversation

"What house did you move into to?" She asked bubbly. A confused expression blossomed onto my features,

"The towns small and not many houses are for sale, you name it we know it!" exclaimed Elena with a twinkling smile. I nodded and turn back towards Caroline "Uhm... it kind of looks like the typical 'white picket fence' house with a blue roof" I said, chuckling to myself thinking my family could ever be normal. Caroline's baby blue eyes lit of with recognition and excitement

"Oh I know that place, its adorable! Maybe the three of us could come over some time?" She finished almost jumping in her seat. I small, sad smile fell onto my face "Yeah, maybe..." My small fingers lace together awkwardly on my lap, as I starred off at a protruding nail beside my leg.

"What's your family like?" Bonnie asked making me jump slightly. I opened my mouth to speak, expecting one of the many lies I have said millions of times to come out, but nothing did. I blanked. The three girls started at me waiting for an answer when a shrill bell rang through the quad. I hopped up tripping slightly as I pulled my legs out from under the bench; I felt a slight sharp pain indicating something cut me.

"Uh...that was the bell! Gotta go to class" I finished as I sped walk away from them into the school. My head flipped back for a moment, no Damon in the parking lot.

I walked down the long stretch of the hallway searching for Mrs. Grey's art room. After about ten minutes I finally located her room. I walked up to the large wood door peering in through the high glass paneling for a moment before turning the sterling silver knob and entering the room. A multitude of heads snapped up towards my direction as the heavy door made a 'thump' behind me. I swore to myself,

"God can't I just make it to class on time!" I felt a blush flitter across my cheeks next to my adjoining nose bruise,

"I bet I look a mess" I muttered again. An older woman with grey hair and bright eyes walked towards me

"You must be Evelyn, you're late" I nodded and muttered a

"Sorry" willing myself not to correct her. Mrs. Grey nodded and replied sternly "Take a seat then Evelyn" I looked up towards the class my blue hair tumbling over my shoulders as I searched for a seat. My blue eyes traced the room looking for a secluded seat but coming up blank. After standing awkwardly at the front of the room for a second I concluded that there was only one empty seat towards the back right side. Rocking back on my heels and chewing my lip for a brief moment I then made my way towards a group of people gathered in the back of the room. My thin frame made its way through the numerous tables and chairs, twisting and turning my body until I finally made my way to the chair plopping down quickly, ignoring the stares. Mrs. Grey rolled her small eyes in my direction and with a slight glare she continued her lesson,

"So, as I was saying before the rude interruption-" she paused looking over at me then continued

"we will be pairing up and sketching each other's faces in two different expressions and angles, now get to it!" I jumped slightly as she yelled and looked around awkwardly; I hate partner projects, I always got left out. I looked down slightly and curled my small legs under myself as I laced my fingers together hoping I wouldn't be noticed. A small hand to the right of me tapped my frail shoulders trying to get my attention, my head snapped up to be met with a pair of jade green eyes and mess of blonde and pink hair

"Hi! I'm Jade! I saw you didn't have a partner, do you want to be partners with me?" I smiled slightly at her name matching her beautiful eyes and nodded "Sure, I'm Eve" she smiled back and pulled her long legs up to her chest and rested her chunky heeled boots on the edge of her chair

"Great name, you're new here right?" I nodded again

"Yeah just moved in the other day" Her smile grew more and she turned to the other people at the table

"I'll introduce you then; this is Austin-" she said pointing to a boy with black hair green eyes and a face full of piercings, I waved slightly and he waved back a grin on his pale face.

"This is Eric-" she continued moving her hand to the left. I turned and saw he had a head of blonde hair and bright blue eyes, I smiled and waved slightly and in turn he winked causing me to blush ever so slightly.

"This is Chloe-" she said moving her hand to the left again. Chloe had clear blue eyes and half her hair was blonde and the other was brown. She smiled at me showing off her dimples and shinning teeth.

"And lastly she concluded this is Blake." She said gesturing to the boy beside me. I turned towards him and smiled. He had black hair spiked up and cloudy blue eyes. He smiled back running his tongue over his lip ring unconsciously and I turned back around to face forward.

"Thanks" I said biting my lip trying to hid my foolish grin around them. Eric had stood up suddenly grabbing his jacket gesturing for the others to do the same; they then begun to all rise and gather their things. I looked up confusion clear on my face and turned towards Jade who laughed and replied simply

"Mrs. Bitch is gone time to blow this Popsicle stand!" She giggled again and I got up slowly grabbing my bag and slinging it over my bruised shoulder. The small group then began to trudge towards the door not receiving any strange glazes telling me they did this quite often. Blake stopped a few feet away from our table "You coming smurf?" I hesitated for a moment but decided to go anyway; I mean what's the worst that could happen?

"And which smurf would I be?" I said my blue eyes glittering with curiosity

"I'm not sure yet" he replied grinning and pushing open the heavy door for me to exit. We all walked down the small hallway slinking out a back door of the school and disappearing into the fog of the parking lot. I followed them till we arrived outside a small brick house with white shutters and matching front door. We quickly walked up the small stone path and Blake left my side walking up to the door jimmying it open. I was sure my face looked like one big question mark. He propped open the door with his Converse covered foot as everyone scrambled into the house. I quickly walked up the path and passed Blake as he winked in my direction. After the door was closed he hung up his jacket on a small hook to his right and walked through a large doorway gesturing for me to follow. He swerved and swivelled around the larger than expected house until he landed into the living room and flopped onto the couch propping his feet up on a wooden coffee table. I stretched my all too skinny legs over his and sat beside him curing my legs under myself and turning towards him

"This is your house isn't it?" I asked recalling his familiarity and comfort in the house. He laughed and nodded

"Yes, I mean I wouldn't take a rookie to break into a house with me" he said wiggling his eyebrows and grinning down at my smaller frame. I smirked back at him and replied with a sour sweet tone

"Oh I'm no rookie" his grin only seemed to grow at that. The sound of cheerful laughter rang through the living room as the rest of the group joined Blake and I. "Heyyy guys!" Jade slurred slightly as she leant against Austin's shoulder giggling and holding a bottle of scotch in her free hand. Blake smiled and reached for the bottle taking a swig then passing it to me

"Want some Smurf?" I gingerly took the bottle taking a large swig, passing it to Chloe next. I kept the strong alcohol in my mouth for a moment soaking up the flavour and then finally swallowing it. A burning sensation filled my stomach and throat as I felt the hot liquid drain down. My blue eyes watered slightly but I managed to ignore it. Blake reached into a small draw in the coffee table pulling out a small baggy. I looked towards him curiously and he just grinned. He unzipped the fabric bag pulling out a lighter, elastic strap and another small baggy. I look curiously at the others but they were to into their drinks to neither know nor care. Jade stumbled over to the couch Blake and I were on a minute later.

"Hiii Evie!" She giggled resting her head on my shoulder. Her alcohol rank breath reached my nose making it crinkle.

"I Love your hair" she drawled snapping her pink gum and curling a strand of my hair around her thin finger. I coiled away slightly as the smell of alcohol filled my nostrils. I bumped into Blake and my attention was returned back to him.

"Oh Blakey!" Jade giggled

"Did you bring the stuff?" He nodded and pulled out a clear bag with white powder in it

"Yeah, first hits on me guys" she squealed loudly in my ear making me cringe. She quickly crawled over my lap making me quickly move to the left so we switched seats. She rung her small hands together in anticipation and took off her black jacket revealing her thin arm, then among closer inspection I saw many needle marks littered across her arm. I quickly averted my eyes and swivelled my body away from them. I heard the loud snap of the elastic against her arm and a few moments later a sigh of pleasure erupt from Jade's lips. I turned my head slightly towards them, resting it on my shoulder and saw Blake grinning down at her. My eyes widen slightly taken in her state, Jade was leaning back on the couch sagged into a small pile, her arms lay straight forward one with a needle in it and a strap around it. My blue eyes then moved up to meet her face, her brilliant eyes were hazy, glazed over and half shut and her skin was sweaty and pale. I looked towards Blake shocked,

"What did you give her?! Is she going to be okay...?" I yelled slightly reaching towards Jade and pulling the needle out. He smirked and look up towards me "She's fine just a little...out of it. I gave her something to forget all the pain, at least for a little while" he replied meeting his blue eyes with mine like he understood my pain, like he knew how to help. I clutched the needle in my hand tightly until my hand felt sore. He looked at me for a moment, his eyes boaring(sp?) into mine,

"Want a hit?" My mind threaded over and over again with thoughts of what to do, but I knew deep down that if I had to think about I had already made up my mind. He looked at me curiously waiting for an answer and before I knew what I was saying I replied with a slight quiver in my voice

"Sure why not I could use a getaway from all the pain" My eyes met his for a moment and he nodded back at me pouring the white powder onto the spoon and heating it up. Just one hit, that's all then I was done, right?
