Hey everyone, here is the next chapter for you all and I hope you enjoy it. Right now, I can't one hundred percent tell you when I'll be updating as I'm having a bit of a rough time in my life when it comes to my health and my energy. I'm really trying to keep up my updates but they might not be as fast. Till my health is a little better, I need to take it easy. I recently had to start walking with a crutch fall time as my legs are failing me. I'm doing okay though and you'll never be without an update for long. Give me what I want, A Real Family and Vigilante will be updated by Thursday at the latest. I hope you all understand. Enjoy and I look forward to hearing what you all think. I have vowed not to leave this without an update for long given my large absence from before.
Thank you for reviewing, you're absolutely brilliant and wonderful. Thanks.
Enjoy and please review
All mistakes are my own
Theo let out a small moan as he woke up. He looked around the room to find it was just Spencer and himself in it. Looking over to Spencer, he felt relief that it was finally over. Mike was in custody along with the others and his family was finally safe. Breaking the rules, Theo pushed the covers over him aside and rose up from his bed. He took some shaky breaths as he tried to bring his focus away from the pain he was feeling below. He pushed through the pain and slowly made his way to Spencer's bed with his IV pole wheeling next to him. He bit his lip as sat down on the edge of the bed. "Spencer, I'm here."
"You should be in bed," Reid groaned before open his eyes sluggishly. "You could tear internal stitches."
"I'm sorry," Theo sighed shakily. "I know you said there was nothing to be sorry for but my past keeps coming back and it keeps trying to destroy the life I've built. You're my brother and I don't know what I would do without you. I will always hate the man whom kidnapped us all that time ago but it brought us together. We may have never found each other if that hadn't happened. You are always there for me. Spencer, you saved me from Mike and his friends. I know what Mike tried to do to you. He was going to rape you."
"He didn't though," Reid coughed before letting out a small wince. "Morgan came and stopped him. Look, I know this might sound strange but sometimes we have to go through something terrible to find something beautiful and worth living for. We went through hell years ago during our kidnapping but we came through it as brothers and have been a family ever since. We can't let what has happened here beat us. We have to create the something beautiful through our recovery."
"How is it that you know the best things to say?" Theo said before wiping a tear away from cheek.
"Years of spending time around the team," Reid said. "Before we met, the team helped me through the terrible times and their support was the something beautiful during those times. No matter what I did, they stayed by my side and even saved my life. Theo, we'll get through this."
"I hope so, Spencer. I really want to see mom. I always feel safe when I'm in her arms."
"She has a way of doing that," Spencer smiled gently. Theo wobbled slightly and grabbed onto the bed as he felt woozy. Spencer reached out and gently held his wrist. "Theo, are you alright?"
"I'm just a little woozy," Theo breathed. "I don't like being on pain medication. It makes my mind more fuzzy than I would like. Having a clear mind is precious to me."
"I'm going to call a nurse. You need to get back into bed, Theo."
Reid looked down at the cellphone he had borrowed from Morgan. His was back at his apartment. He dialled a number he never thought he would dial again but Theo needed all the support he could get. The quickest way to do that was to call their father to collect their mother from Bennington. He was exhausted but he needed to do this. Theo was in a deep sleep after receiving another dose of pain medication and the team were handling everything to do with Mike. Even Garcia had been called in. Putting the phone to his ear, he waited for an answer and tried to keep the anger he still felt from taking control.
"Hello," his father's voice came down the line.
Spencer licked his lips. "It's Spencer."
Silence came down the line before William spoke shakily. "Spencer, it's great to hear from you. Are you and your brother doing well? I hate how things were left between us."
"We're not doing well," Reid said before looking over to Theo.
"What do you mean, Spencer?" William asked.
"I can't go into detail. It's not my place but we're both in hospital because of an attack from some people from Theo's childhood, including his adoptive father. Look, Theo is in a very bad place and he needs Mom. He visits her all the time and loves her so much. He needs his mother more than ever. Can you go and get Mom? If she's capable and not having an episode, you need to bring her here. I'll call ahead and arrange it with her doctors. Just please go and get her. If you want to try to make things right, you can do this and come here now."
"I'll do this," William immediately agreed. "If it means I can see you both, I'll do this and I'll be there with your mother as soon as I can."
"Thank you," Reid said. "I have to call Bennington before I fall asleep again. Goodbye."
Reid disconnected the call with Bennington and took a shaky breath in. The door opened and Katrina walked in with Grace walking beside her and holding her hand. Grace saw him immediately and rushed to the bed. "Unca!"
Katrina walked over and carefully lifted Grace onto the bed. Spencer stroked some of her hair behind her small ears and gave the best smile he could. "Boo, Unca had a little trip but he'll be okay. Your grandma and grandpa are coming to see you."
"What?" Katrina said in a confused voice.
"Theo came and sat on my bed earlier. He wants Mom and I called our father to get her and bring her to Virginia. I haven't spoken to him in over two and a half years but this is the quickest way to get her here. I don't think William even knows he has a grandchild."
"Theo asked Diana not to say anything," Katrina confirmed.
"I gonna see gram-gram!" Grace screeched. Theo stirred but didn't wake as he turned onto his side. Katrina kissed the top of her daughter's head and let out a grin. "Gram-Gram loves you but you have to keep this a secret. Gram-Gram is going to surprise your daddy. Promise mommy that you'll keep it a secret."
"I pomise, mommy," Grace grinned before leaning back against her mother and giggling.
"Mommy loves her little angel," Katrina giggled as well before tickling Grace.
William and Diana walked through the hospital after being told by the nurse where Spencer and Theo were being kept. Diana just wanted to see her children. It hurt so much knowing they were hurt and she wasn't with them. She hoped that hurt would soon disappear. They opened the door and walked into find most of Spencer's team in there along with Katrina and Grace. Theo and Spencer were sleeping soundly on the bed. No-one had a chance to speak as Grace rushed over to Diana. "Gram-Gram!"
Diana swept her granddaughter into her arms and hugged her tightly. William look confused. "Diana, who is this?"
"I'm sorry, William, but I had to respect Theo's wishes. This is Grace Diana Reid. Theo's daughter and our grandchild. Isn't she beautiful?" Diana explained before kissing Grace's nose. "Have you been a good girl for Gram-Gram?"
"I been a good girl," Grace nodded before looking to William. "Hi, Grampy."
"You can hold her, William," Katrina said softly as she walked over. "I'm Theo's wife and Grace's mother."
"It's nice to meet you," William gulped and as took in all the new information. Grace reached out and he brought her into his arms. He couldn't believe how beautiful his granddaughter was. She touched his face and gave him a large grin. "Hello, Grace. You're such a beautiful little girl."
Diana felt torn as she was looked at both her children.
"Go to Theo, Mom."
She looked to the bed to see Spencer's eyes open now. "Oh, Spencer, what happened?"
"Just go to him, Mom," Reid urged again. "He needs you so much right now."
Reid turned to the rest of the team. "Can we have some time alone? Katrina, could you take Grace outside? She can't hear this."
Katrina walked over to William and brought Grace into her arms. She followed the team as they began to file out of the room. Grace began to get upset at leaving. Katrina kissed the top of her head. "Don't worry, Grace, we're just going to get some air and then we'll come back."
She closed the door behind her leaving Reid, Theo, Diana and William alone in the room.
Diana hurried to Theo's bedside and lovingly stroked her hand through his hair. Theo let out a small groan before opening his eyes to see her standing above him. He ignored the pain as he pushed himself up into a sitting position. His eyes began to tear up as he took in the sight of her. "Mom."
Diana stroked her fingers over the bruises and swelling to his face. "What happened to you?"
"They hurt me, Mom," Theo said as he broke down and began to sob. "I never told you what happened when I was younger but the men came back and they hurt me."
Diana wrapped her arms around her son and held him as he sobbed heavily. She sat on the edge of the bed and rocked him back and forth as he let out pain that she didn't full understand. What had her son been hiding from her for all this time? "I'm here. Mother's here. Oh, my little boy."
William observed Diana holding Theo and made his way to Reid's bed. He saw his son crying. "Spencer, what happened to you both?"
"The damn past," Reid said before wiping his cheeks. "Thank you for bringing her here."
"I've never been a good father. I know that but I want to try to be a father to you both. I love you both and I've never stopped wondering how you are both doing. I never knew I had a grandchild."
"Theo was still angry," Reid said shakily. "He needs all the support he can get. Grace is a wonderful child. She calls me Unca and I call her Boo. She's always trying to jump out and scare me. Things ended badly between us when I was in hospital. We can't fix everything in the blink of an eye. It's going to take time and I won't force Theo to do anything he doesn't want to. I won't lose him either. If he agrees, we take this slow and I swear if you do anything to let him down, you'll have me to deal with. The FBI trained me well."
"I understand, Spencer. I don't expect this to happen without some arguments and time. You could have sent a member of your team to get your mother. There was a reason you called me. Something more than just myself being the nearest to your mother."
"Theo's never had a father that loved him. Hell, his adoptive one is the devil who made his life hell as a kid and just hurt him all over again. His adoptive father is the one who shoved a knife in the bottom of my back."
"What?" William gasped.
Reid looked over at Theo and couldn't stop the tears coming down his cheeks. "He brought hell back into Theo's life. It's not my place to tell you everything."
William sat on the edge of the bed and put his hand over Reid's hand. "Whatever happened, we'll get you both through it."
