Hi guys, I'm back with a new chapter of… Pokemon: Sinnoh Adventure! Very creative title, am I right? Anyway, this chapter is what you've been waiting for- for nine whole chapters: the gym battle! Don't worry you won't have to skip anything, the gym battle is practically at the very beginning of the chapter. Also, I'm going to be listing the Pokemon at the beginning of the chapter as well as the end. That's so you know exactly who he will be using in the chapter, which is for when he gets more. Ok, enough talking.
Gible Lv. 15: Dragon Rage, Tackle, Sand Tomb
Chimchar Lv. 13: Ember, Scratch, Leer
Starly Lv. 10: Quick Attack, Tackle, Growl
Milestone 3: The First Gym Battle
"Are sure you're ready Khari?" Julie asked for what seemed like the hundredth time. My answer was always the same though: yes.
"Of course I am, Julie. We've been training really hard."
"Yeah, but… Chimchar and Starly are at a disadvantage. The only one who has a chance is Gible, and even he has just Tackle really!" She reasoned. As much as I'd hate to admit it, she was right. What she said made buttloads of sense, but you've just gotta keep faith.
"Julie, sometimes you've just gotta follow your gut!" I replied, giving a simple answer. We arrived at the gym soon after our little talk, it was really nerve-wracking to be here. I mean, it's surreal to think my first badge is just one step away!
I opened the double door to reveal a mountainous field with rocks everywhere, even the stands were carved out of stone.
"Hello!?" I shouted. There was no answer, and Julie and I exchanged looks.
"Hello!?" She shouted louder than me. It was a little creepy knowing she could scream that loud. This time, a big, muscle-y guy in a construction suit came out.
"Are you guys here to challenge the gym?" He asked. His voice was deep and gruff, yet you could sense annoyance in it, he seemed to do this at least 10 times a day.
"Yes I am!"
"Then step out onto the battlefield, I'll go and get Roark." The toned man replied, walking off into the distance.
As I walked onto the battlefield, Julie trudged over to the stone bleachers and took a seat. I was a bit nervous, so I decided my Pokemon might be too, and threw them out for pep talk. They each chanted their names upon entrance, and took a peek around the room, clearly in awe. I couldn't blame them for being so surprised, I was a little too.
"Guys, our first gym battle is today! You might not understand it, but it's really big to me, so I want you guys to give 150% out there!" I explained. Chimchar nodded its head with a sincere smile on its face. It really was a sweet Pokemon, playful and irritable, but it really just wanted to help.
I heard footsteps in the distance, and returned all my Pokemon. The same man from the Pokemon Center came out. I recognized his purple hair and glasses. He had a construction hat on which smoothed his purple hair, and a gray cargo pants. They looked cool, getting some will be on my checklist. On his torso he had a simple black tee.
"Hey, I saw you at the Pokemon Center!" I felt dumb, I should've recognized him as the gym leader. And it only makes it worse because my dad is a gym leader too!
"Now that you mention it, you are that kid with the fossil. After our battle you should go and get it restored, before it breaks down." He advised me. I've got to keep that in mind, and the lady did say the machine should be ready by tonight.
"Well what are we waiting for?" I quizzed, excitement clear in my voice. A smile grew on Roark's face, and he pulled a Pokeball off of his belt.
"I admire your enthusiasm, so let's begin." He nodded towards the bulky man standing to the side of the field.
"This gym battle will be between the gym leader Roark, and the challenger. Each trainer uses 3 Pokemon, however only the challenger is allowed to substitute. Begin!" He recited. It seemed like he's said that all his life with how perfectly it all came together.
"Alright, Gible you're first!" I shouted as the sphere rolled off my fingers.
"Gible!" The dragon cheered. It continued to flex and chomp on the air as Roark released his Pokemon.
"Geodude!" The Pokemon shouted. I've always hated Geodude, it's literally just a rock with arms and eyes.
"You can have the first move." Roark told me, a sincere smiled plastered on his face. Gible and I locked eyes for a moment before it nodded understandingly.
"Gible, let's open the battle with a Sand Tomb," I ordered.
"Gib," The land shark screeched wihle a quick sandstorm blasted Geodude into the air. Roark gasped, he probably didn't expect our Sand Tomb to be so quick, we had worked on it all day yesterday.
Geodude began to fall from the sky as the the storm disappeared, and Gible took advantage of it without my guidance as it released a Dragon Rage. It smashed right into Geodude, and it was sent rolling back to Roark.
"Gosh, that's a tough Gible! But, Geodude and I are pretty tough too!" Roark preached as the rock Pokemon rose back up.
"Now, use Rollout!" Geodude tucked in its arms and sped towards Gible. The dragon Pokemon took a step back, seemingly surprised at how fast that it was moving, but I already had a plan for this.
"Gible, just jump." I commanded, nonchalantly shrugging my shoulders. Roark only smirked as Gible launched itself in the air.
"Geodude, use Mega Punch on the ground," the gym leader ordered. Geodude's fists turned a bright white and it punched the ground, launching itself straight into Gible, skillfully knocking it out the air.
Gible landed with a loud thud, and quickly jumped back up. That's what I want to see! My Pokemon are tough!
"Great job Gible! Follow that up with a Dragon Rage!" I exclaimed. Gible launched a bright blue beam from its gaping mouth and it smashed into Geodude, knocking it out.
"Awesome work, Gible! Keep it up." Julie cheered for us in the distance, and as her clapping drew to a close Roark spoke up.
"I commend you for taking down Geodude with such ease, but from now on it won't be so simple," He pause for a while to take a Pokeball of his belt and continued, "Because it's time to get serious."
His Pokeball released an Onix, another Pokemon I wasn't too fond of, but that's a totally different story. He nodded towards me, gesturing me to make the first move.
"Alright, use Sand Tomb." Onix roared as it was knocked into the air by the sand, and it quickly started to descend. As Gible started charging up a Dragon Rage I knew that this strategy was becoming a signature.
"That cheap trick won't work again, Onix use Slam to knock it away." He ordered. Onix redirected the beam with a swing of its tail. Roark grinned as I gritted my teeth, seeming to think he'd gotten the best of me. Which he didn't, I mean, I'm me!
"Now Onix, Ancient Power!" Rocks began to form from plain air around Onix, and suddenly they just started flying towards Gible. This time, he might've gotten the best of me, I didn't know how to counter this with the moveset we had now!
"Umm… just try dodging all the rocks, Gible." Surprisingly, Gible hopped out the way of a few rocks, but he was tired out and got pelted by the last couple. He struggled to get back up.
"Seeing Gible like this makes me wonder; what do you plan to do after Gible faints," Roark questioned, a sly smirk on his face. That's a good question!
"To be honest, I planned on using Gible the whole battle." Gible dropped to the floor out of embarrassment, and I could see Julie fall off the bleachers out the corner of my eye.
"Khari, you idiot!" She screeched. That was probably the loudest scream I've ever heard out of anybody!
"Let's keep going, Onix use Bind!" Onix rushed towards Gible and wrapped it up inside its snake-like body. Gible cried out, clearly in a lot of pain.
"Gible, give him a nonstop Dragon Rage," I shouted, hoping Onix would faint in the attack.
"Gib," The dragon shouted as it let loose a light blue beam. The huge rock snake winced in pain as the beam continued to strike its body. Roark furrowed his eyebrows, and glared at me.
"Well squeeze as tight as you can Onix," the gym leader countered. That seems bad. Gible's eyes widened in pain, and he choked on his own attack. Then both he and Onix collapsed, and their eyes were replaced with swirls.
"Gible and Onix are both unable to continue, choose your next Pokemon." The referee muttered. If he was gonna do this job he needed to speak up, I could barely hear him! Roark pulled a pokeball off his belt, and I hadn't a clue on who to use. Should I use Starly or Chimchar? Chimchar has more power, but Starly is faster and could dodge more attacks. Speed over power, Starly it is!
"Starly let's do it!" Starly chirped its name upon release, and Roark let out a Cranidos. Cranidos were alright I guess, I just hard they were a little hard to raise.
"You're insulting my ability by choosing a Flying-type," Roark remarked, his hand slowly shaking.
"Well you're insulting my ability by thinking a mere type disadvantage is gonna throw me off!" I retorted quickly. The gym leader let a small smirk grace his face before frowning.
"Cranidos, use Headbutt," the Rock-type trainer ordered. I just noticed Roark thrusts his hands out when he issues an attack, pretty weird, but back to the battle.
"Starly, fly higher so it can't reach you!" Genius plan, I know. His battle style was limited since he had a Pokemon like Cranidos, you can really only attack head-on.
"HA! You think that'll stop Cranidos? Just jump, buddy," he said. Cranidos did just that, and jumped so high I swear it could've tickled Jesus if it wanted too. Starly's eyes grew wide when Cranidos met it on eye level.
"Get it now!" Cranidos smashed its head into Starly, and the poor bird with an impact so crazy a dent was left in the ground. When all the smoke cleared Starly was out, and after just one attack, wow!
"How powerful is that thing!?" Julie shouted in surprise. I looked over and saw Julie's eyes wide and her hands covering her mouth. I know Julie is a pretty strong trainer, but not even she's faced an opponent like Cranidos.
"Starly is unable to battle, challenger, choose your final Pokemon." The referee muttered. He must really be tired of his job.
"You're down to your last Pokemon Khari." You don't freaking say! It's all up to precious little Chimchar.
"Chimchar, it's all in your hands." Chimchar looked at Cranidos and then me, then back to Cranidos, and laughed. Sure is a cocky little monkey. Roark growled at Chimchar's disrespectful gesture.
"End it with one shot, Rock Head!" Cranidos' head began to glow a dull brown and it charged towards Chimchar. The swift monkey jumped right over the attack.
"While you're behind it use Ember!" Chimchar let loose a stream of flaming pellets that hit Cranidos head on.
"Use Leer so the next attack will do more damage, Chimchar." The small chimp glared at the opposing Rock-type, and a blue ring ran down Cranidos.
"You're using strategy now, huh?" Roark questioned. It seems like he's trying to call me stupid. If he is, then he's… dumb as a rock! Get it, because he uses Rock-types! I crack myself up.
"Well, I know I'm not going to get my badge with just attacking." I replied, and Roark cracked a smile.
"Cranidos, Rock Polish!" He ordered with the smile still on his face. Crap! That's gonna make Cranidos so much faster, and I know that he's going to outspeed Chimchar now.
"Ember!" The orange pellets rammed into Cranidos again, but they still didn't do much damage. After the attack finished, Cranidos' hard body began to shine. That's it.
"Now, use Stone Edge." The rocks around Cranidos' head began to shine and they launched multiple rocks towards Chimchar.
"Dodge, and use Ember." Ember was becoming a crutch now. The chimp side-stepped and launched another stream of flames towards the Rock-type.
"Headbutt." Cranidos rushed right through the attack that dealt little to no damage and smashed right into Chimchar. This is bad.
"Chimchar!" I screeched. I didn't realize I had until it looked back up at me, and smiled. He jumped back onto his legs and began to spin. Fire gathered around him and he bashed into Cranidos. He learned Flame Wheel!
"Good job, Chimchar!" Julie and I cheered in sync. Chimchar roared its name and stared at Cranidos. It was down! I won!
"Chimchar you did it!" I shouted, running towards my Fire-type. I brought it into a tight hug and began spinning him around. Julie came back down and patted my back.
"Good job, Khari. I'm proud of you." She said as if she was my parent or something. I know she's gonna stop treating me like that. Roark walked up to me after returning his fallen Pokemon and handed me a small emblem.
"This is the Coal Badge, and it's all your's for defeating me." I grabbed that badge, and just stared at it for a while. This was crazy, I had just gotten my first badge.
sKiP
We had gathered all our stuff and checked out the Pokemon Center when we ran into Nolan.
"It took you guys long enough to get ready." The blonde said with irritation clear in his voice.
"Well, we weren't expecting you to wait for us." Julie replied, becoming irritated herself. She was right, he just appeared out of nowhere.
"I was just waiting to tell you that I'll be in Veilstone City before you even get a chance to battle Gardenia, Khari!" He ran off with that.
"He can be pretty annoying." Julie remarked when he was out of sight. I couldn't deny her either, but either way, he was my friend.
"My fossil!" I shouted, running back to the museum. I realized that my fossil was still there, they said that they'd revive it for me. Do you remember?
"Wait, Khari!" I could hear Julie shout from behind me. I wasn't stopping though, it was already getting dark out and if they closed I'd have to wait until tomorrow to get my Pokemon. We already checked out the Pokemon Center too, so we'd have nowhere to stay the night. I got to the museum in about ten minutes, and I was winded!
I've never been so tired in my life. When I walked through the automatic doors, I could see the same lady with the blue hat. When she saw me, a bright smile grew on her creamy skin.
"Here you go. I already know what you're here for. You're pretty lucky too, we're closing in 7 minutes!" She exclaimed. She extended her hand, and when she opened it there was a Pokeball in the palm of her hand. I almost snatched it in excitement, and gave a small thank you before rushing out the door.
"There you are, Khari." Julie said, wheezing from the run. Her eyebrows scrunched together, and I could tell she was angry.
"Where were you, and what was so important that you had to just take off running?" Before she could continue here barrage of questions, I decided to explain.
"Remember yesterday when we went our separate ways," I paused for her to nod before continuing, "well I found a rock while training with Gible, and when I stopped by the museum they told me it was a fossil!" She looked shocked, and I immediately threw the Pokeball after finishing my story.
When the ball opened it revealed a… Cranidos!?
"DOS!" The Rock-type shouted, stretching out its limbs after a long rest. A wide smile grew on my face, I have a Cranidos now, and we're going to get our second badge.
That's all for this chapter, and I know it's been forever since I updated. I can say, I'm sorry, and the reason is because I forgot my password. I thought I got locked out my account, and I didn't see the "forgot password" thing for a while. I already feel really dumb, no need to make me feel worse. Anyway, Khari now has a Cranidos, and he'll be catching even more soon. One of them, I'm really excited for because it's one of my absolute favorite Pokemon. Whatever though, now it's time for team updates.
