So sorry for the long wait, sweeties! Here's a brand new chapter for y'all,
As usual, please fav/follow and R&R. Thanks! :)
'You consider hunting in space nothing special?' Donna asked, slightly baffled.
'Though to you, a simple human, this way of life may seem most incredible,' the Frost Wolf said, 'In these regions it is actually quite regular for people to hunt anywhere, including in space.'
'Show-off,' the Doctor chuckled.
'What?'
'You. You're showing off,' the Doctor said with a big smile.
'I do not follow….'
'Simple human? Please…' the Doctor said.
'Oh, is it that?' the Frost Wolf said with a chuckle, 'You are perfectly ridiculous, Doctor….'
'Can you guys stop talking in riddles?' Donna asked slightly impatient.
'It is nothing, Miss Noble. Just an old joke.'
'Oh, and I can't be included in that?'
'I am afraid you would not understand.'
Donna kept quiet, unhappy about the answer.
'I can see you are unhappy, Miss Noble,' the Frost Wolf said, 'but you must understand….'
'I do,' Donna said, 'I understand there are jokes older than me, that I wouldn't understand because they are from far before my time. I only wish you wouldn't make them when I am standing right next to you.'
The Frost Wolf's soft snarly breathing was the only thing to be heard in the following silence.
'So… now what?' Donna asked.
'What do you mean, now what?' the Doctor asked.
'She's shifted into her wolf form. She should be alright now, shouldn't she?' Donna said.
'It's not that easy, I'm afraid,' the Frost Wolf said softly.
'Why not?' Donna asked.
'I have not been in this form for too long. It will take a while before my body will allow itself to shift back. In the meantime, I remain be a wolf.'
Donna looked at the giant creature, slightly amazed. She would certainly not be able to handle such power the way the Frost Wolf did. She was quite sure she would go crazy.
A sharp knock was heard.
Skadi looked up and saw her fellow Kings and Queens standing in the door opening.
'Permission to enter the bridge?' Njörd asked.
'Permission granted,' Skadi said with a soft nod.
Njörd stepped on the bridge first, followed by Frey and Freya. Then came Bragi and Idun; and Heimdall followed as last.
The ginger woman looked at them in amazement, as they were a strange sight.
King Njörd, being the God of the Sea, was dressed in seashell-covered armour.
Frey was dressed as the God of Prosperity that he was.
His twin sister Freya, Goddess of Beauty, wore her own armour and her famous cloak of falcon feathers.
King Bragi, not being a warrior at all, but rather the Poet, was dressed as a skald, a bard of ancient Norway, and his wife Queen Idun was dressed in her beautiful dress as Goddess of Youth.
Finally, there was Heimdall, the Watcher, dressed in his golden armour. He was the only one who looked like he was made for battle, and he was.
'So how is she?' Heimdall asked with his deep baritone voice.
'See for yourself,' Skadi said.
Heimdall looked at the giant white wolf and smiled.
'Hello Frost Wolf,' he said.
'Hello, your Majesty.'
'How are you?'
'I am fine. Thank you,' the Frost Wolf said with an almost purring voice.
'It has been a while since we have seen you in this form, hasn't it?' Heimdall said.
'Indeed. And with good reason,' the Frost Wolf said, 'I had no desire of killing people again.'
'Wait, I just realized something,' Donna exclaimed, 'If your shape-shifting causes you to kill people, then aren't you supposed to be rampaging around right now?'
Just as she asked that question, a sinister ripple went through the creature's body.
The Doctor recognized it immediately.
The Frost Wolf pulled up her lips in a snarl.
Her eyes slowly lost all recognition to the people around her.
'Everyone, clear the bridge!' Skadi exclaimed.
'Doctor…' the Frost Wolf whispered, 'I am so sorry….'
'It's alright, my sweet…' the Doctor whispered back, while he slowly backed off.
The Frost Wolf looked at him, for a moment frightened, for a few seconds frozen in fear.
Then another ripple went through her body and she grew a thousand times scarier.
Five spikes grew on each eyebrow; her eyes that were first glowing blue now were black holes. Looking into them felt like being sucked into a wormhole. A rim of spikes ridged her spine all the way to in-between her ears. Four other rims of spikes grew on her shoulders and hind legs, her claws lengthened dramatically and she grew slightly in size.
Her dark, empty eyes were still fixed on the Doctor.
She snarled ominously and scraped over the floor with her claws, leaving big gashes in the white material.
The Doctor's eyes widened and he took off his glasses.
'Oh… shit…' he gasped and then turned to Skadi. 'You have to clear off the ship. The bridge won't be enough….'
'Doctor? What's happening?' Donna asked.
'Donna, you're going to have to listen to me for once and do exactly as I say,' the Doctor said to the redhead. 'This is why Frost Wolfs are by far the most dangerous race in the universe.'
'But she said she was the last one,' Donna asked, 'How much of a threat can she pose?'
'Well…' the Doctor said while he made sure everyone had cleared off the bridge, 'One Frost Wolf is strong enough to bring down an entire civilization….'
'What?' Donna exclaimed.
'The Frost Wolves were also very civilized themselves,' the Doctor quickly added, 'They were far ahead in intelligence and development compared to for example the Ásgarðians. If they had wanted it, they could have overthrown half the universe before anyone could have put a stop to them.'
'So why didn't they?'
'They were ruled by this Frost Wolf's family, and that family did not want supreme rule over the galaxy. They were satisfied with ruling their planet.'
'Well, that's a first,' Donna said while the lift doors closed.
'Yup.'
'So that Frost Wolf right there is the sole survivor of some tragedy that occurred like twenty-two million years ago, and also the heir to the throne of some planet?' Donna asked.
'Yup.'
'Which planet?'
'Can't say,' the Doctor said and glanced at the creature in the middle of the bridge, 'She can't handle that information.'
'You think she cares about that right now?'
'That's not why she can't handle it, Donna,' the Doctor said, a glimpse of sadness in his eyes.
'Then why?' Donna asked curiously.
'Can that wait until a better moment?' the Doctor asked her.
'Okay, okay, fine…. Let's get everyone to safety first….'
'Thank you.'
With those words, the lift moved down.
