Crimson Hearts
Chapter 9
―――
Utau watched as two figures approached them at the gate. One was a tall male with silver hair, lilac and a stoic expression. His posture showed he was on alert, his eyes glancing everywhere but at them. Utau also took notice in the school uniform he wore, a suit kind of. It was a black blazer that was buttoned up with a red tie that hung loosely around his neck. Underneath was a white collared shirt, and black pants finished the look. Then Utau took notice of the girl besides him, a short brunette with wine colored eyes that looked more cheerful. She too, wore a uniform, but with a skirt and a bow instead of a tie and black pants. One last thing Utau noticed was the white bands around their arms with some type of red symbol that resembled a rose.
"Welcome to Cross Academy! You all must be the new transfer students!" The brunette chirped. "My name is Yuki Cross and the grump next to me is Zero Kiryu, two of the Academy's disciplinary committee. The third member is a little busy at the moment."
Utau sweat dropped. The girl, Yuki, was a little too cheerful for the time of night. Ikuto on the other hand was sizing up the silver haired male up while wondering if these two knew Amu. Kukai just yawned, wanting to go to bed already. Tadase was just calm along with Nagihiko, Kairi and Rima. All seven of them were equally tired and just wanted to be escorted to the Headmaster's office to straighten everything out.
"My name is Utau Hoshina, that's my brother Ikuto Tsukiyomi, and our friends Rima, Tadase, Kukai, Nagihiko, and Kairi." Utau replied tiredly, watching as Yuki's eyes widen in surprise before quickly shaking it off. Utau raised her eyebrow in question and glanced at Zero- who merely grunted in response as if he didn't care.
"Don't be so rude Zero!" Yuki reprimanded before forcing a smile at them. "Let's take them to the Headmaster and begin patrols. Sound like a deal?"
"Whatever." Zero muttered. "Let's just get this over with."
Zero knew he was being rude, and Yuki also understood why. They both easily recognized the names Utau and Ikuto, and knew that these people were Amu's past friends. It wasn't like Zero had a grudge against them or anything; he just didn't like people in general- Amu and Yuki were the exceptions. Especially Amu. It was that Zero knew Amu wasn't going to be okay with them here now, and it may just cause her to be more distant- no Zero knew, how it would cause her to react. Not only that, he still couldn't find Amu earlier that night to discuss the ritual with her.
Yuki sighed at the silence as they walked, not bothering to say a thing. She was focused on Amu- who was now around campus somewhere. The residential witch was good at hiding when she didn't want to talk, but Yuki had a feeling that something happened that caused her to be upset. Probably Zero, with the way he tried to discreetly look for the pinkette. Kukai, along as everyone else was taking in the school campus in awe, not bothering to ask questions as of now. Soon enough, Yuki and Zero came to a stop in front of a set of cherry wood doors.
"Here is the Headmaster's office." Zero said. "Knock and he should answer. Come on Yuki."
The two disciplinary committee students walked away from the group, while Ikuto frowned. Utau sighed. "I wasn't the only one who thought he was rude right?"
"Nope, I did too." Kukai agreed with his girlfriend.
"He's usually like that with people. I apologize for his behavior." A man with glasses and a long pony tail said from behind them. "Zero isn't very sociable with new comers or anyone in general."
"We didn't mind." Utau smiled. "Headmaster Kaien I assume?"
"Yes." Kaien nodded and sighed. "Sorry I was late; I was dealing with personal issues with my niece. Now come on inside while we sort everything out for your stay here."
Ikuto frowned, easily recognizing this man from the day Amu left. Her uncle, the Headmaster of Cross Academy. It made Ikuto wonder what exactly happened earlier with him and Amu, but it was none of his business. The seven of them followed Kaien into his office, while Kaien himself just replayed the battle he won with his niece- who had no clue of the arrival of the seven transfer students. He knew repercussions where going to come his way sometime in the future.
"I'll make this nice and short for you seven since it's late and I'm sure you are weary of your travels. This school has a few strict rules. One, don't go out past curfew. Two, obey the school's disciplinary committee. Three, don't leave past the school gates without permission. Students are only permitted to leave campus for school breaks. Four, Succeed in your studies. Is that understood?" Kaien asked sternly, gazing at all of them through his glasses with a strict look in his eyes.
"Yes Headmaster." The seven coursed.
Kaien smiled, "Such wonderful students already. Now as we have to do is wait for your tour guide to bring you your uniforms and direct you further."
The door opened once again, a box being held high to cover the person's face. Kaien frowned at this. Ikuto and Utau, along with the others all turned towards the door. Slowly the person lowered the box, and all their eyes widen. The long pink hair and honey eyes.
"Amu-chan." Utau whispered, taking a step forward.
"Sup." Amu said nonchalantly.
―――
Amu didn't bother with much after her scene with Kaname, just went to the furthest part away from the campus and sat under a willow tree outside the Academy's stables. Her head lulled back, staring up at the sky as she got lost in her thoughts. Thinking of everything that has happened in the past few months.
Had she changed? Yes, Amu knew she wasn't the same as she was before. She lost her parents and sister- not only that she lost her charas. She was forced to move away, maybe not forced, but she had to leave her past behind. Even if it hurt her and them, she had to leave them behind so she could heal.
Did she even heal? The answer was that was still healing. A part of Amu knew it there would be a part of her that would always grieve, but she would grow more as a person with this pain. Now that she lost Dia, everything would fall into pieces. A sad smile made its way onto Amu's lips. Her life was never really hers, it was all some façade. Her father wasn't actually her father. It left Amu wondering who her father was. Kaien had no clue. Maybe Yagari knew, he always came around when she was young. Maybe she should ask.
Amu closed her eyes, letting her mind wander even farther away. She was a witch, a person with magic. Her life was now constantly in danger with witch hunters and she didn't know how to feel about that just yet. She still didn't even know how to deal with her magic, or even control it. She could have seriously hurt Yagari of he had not had a vampire hunter weapon that didn't effect humans. That thought alone scared her to her core. Hurting someone.
Then there was Zero. She couldn't deny it, she was attracted to him. He was there for her, and now she wanted to be there for him, but it hurt. She felt like she was still betraying Ikuto, but in honest truth- it wouldn't work with the blue haired neko. He left her for a few years, and she waited- but she slowly fell out of love. Zero, he was exciting- a mystery. Amu sighed. She just couldn't deal with that heartache right now.
All this lead her to her final question. Did she regret coming here to Cross Academy? No, she didn't. Amu actually enjoyed it here most of the time. She liked being around her Uncle, and Yuki and Zero. Of course there were the Night Class, but Amu actually enjoyed some of them. She didn't regret meeting anyone, maybe Kaname- but things happen for a reason. Fate was a funny thing.
"Amu, I need to speak with you."
Amu looked over at her Uncle and nodded silently. "Am I in trouble for allowing Zero to feed on me? It goes against everything you stand for." Amu's honey eyes looked down. "I'm sorry Uncle Kaien."
Kaien held his hand out and shook his head with a small smile, "You are doing in what you believe is right, and I couldn't be more proud Amu. Even if it does go against my ideals, you have your reasons and I respect them. I can't say the same about others."
"He hates me doesn't he?" Amu asked sadly as she took Kaien's calloused hand and stood.
"No." Kaien chuckled. "Quite the opposite, I believe he was even looking for you, but your talk will have to wait. The new transfer students have arrived and I need a, escort to bring seven uniforms. Two female and four male uniforms."
Amu's eyes widen in surprise, "You can't be asking me to be the escort!"
"You have not attended your Disciplinary Committee duties for a while now Amu and it is your responsibility to do so, as punishment for neglecting your responabilities, you are to escort these students tonight and tomorrow around campus with no argument." Kaien reprimanded softly, but his eyes were stern and daring his niece to talk back.
Amu, dipping her head with a grumble, gave into the command. "Two female uniforms and four male uniforms right?"
"Yes." Kaien praised. "You're such a good girl Amu-chan! I must go now and enroll the transfer students."
With that Kaien chuckled and ran off into the night back towards his office, passing past Zero and Yuki who had just dropped the new transfer students off at his office door. Amu on the other hand was fuming; she had been going through things- not neglecting her duties! Yet, so had Zero- who struggled with his blood lust every day, but still managed to cover his and her patrol duties. Amu sighed, her Uncle was right just this once.
"Amu-chan!" Yuki called, gaining the attention of the pinkette.
"Yuki." Amu smiled forcefully. It wasn't hard to tell that she wasn't in the best of moods. Since Kaien came from her general directions, Yuki assumed Amu knew. "What are you doing here?"
"Me and Zero just escorted your friends to the office." Yuki stated, watching how Amu's honey eyes widen in surprise. In that moment Yuki realized where she messed up, earned and elbow in her side by Zero, and was forced to stare as Amu's whole persona turned sad.
"I see." Amu muttered softly. "So it was them who came here."
"Are you headed over there now?" Yuki asked curiously.
Amu nodded, "Headmaster is making me escort them. I see why now he chose me out of the three of us. Sly man."
Zero's fist clenched, "You don't have to escort them, me or Yuki can-"
"No." Amu cut him off sharply. "I can't run from them. I should just face them now and get it over with. There isn't a point in sending one of you two to escort them, it should be me. I owe them that much."
Zero sighed, "You don't have to explain yourself to them."
"I don't need you to tell me what I can and can't to Zero!" Amu snapped in irritation.
"Hey, calm down- both of you." Yuki interjected blowing her whistle but got two cold glares instead.
"Whatever." Amu growled softly, her cool-and-spicy persona slipping into place. "I'll talk you both later."
Leaving the other two school guardians, Amu then stormed off towards the main administrative building, her expression stoic as she gathered the uniforms all in a box. Might as well go in with the element of surprise on her side. It took Amu all of a few minutes to guess the right sizes for each built of them, small for Rima and Utau, while the guys were probably a large- medium for Tadase and Kairi. Soon enough Amu hauled ass with a huge box covering her face and went to her Uncle's office.
Though when Amu went to knock on the door, she froze and stood there. Her nerves were getting all bundled up, causing Amu to take in a much need breath to calm her nerves. She would face them now, there was no running away. Now she had to grow up and face her past- yes her past. Screw trying to make amends, she couldn't. Amu knew this world of vampires, and supernatural would cause them all to be in danger. That was the last thing she wanted, so with one last final decision Amu held her head high and walked right in.
"Such wonderful students already. Now as we have to do is wait for your tour guide to bring you your uniforms and direct you further." Kaien said happily, going into his persona- causing Amu to sweat drop.
Closing her eyes tightly, Amu took one last deep breath- pulling air deep into her lungs. Opening her honey eyes she locked away her emotional feelings and put on her façade- placing the box of uniforms down onto the stand near the door. The serval gasps made Amu fight off a smirk but lost looking right at Utau. Several emotions showed in those amethyst eyes, and in Amu's chest- but Amu refused.
"Amu-chan." Utau whispered, taking a step forward.
Amu refrained from smirking and nodded her head with a nonchalant, "Sup." Then turned towards her Uncle, who was smiling, and narrowed her honey eyes. "What are you smiling at old man?"
Kaien chuckled, "Nothing Amu, just make sure you play nice."
Amu scowled and gave a cold look to her former friends, "Hurry up at get dressed so we get this damn tour or whatever over with."
"Amu." Kaien scolded.
"Not right now Uncle." Amu huffed. "We can talk later."
"No, you and Zero are talking later." Kaien reminded.
"Whatever." Amu sighed in defeat at just the mention of Zero's name- which wasn't unnoticed, causing Ikuto to frown. Zero was the silver haired male from before. "Are you guys going to change? I'm sure you'd like sleep before class in the morning."
"Where can we change at Amu-chan?" Nagihiko asked gently, watching how Amu didn't react in the slightest.
"Bathroom down the hall. Knock first- it doesn't lock." Amu answered curtly, turning away as the seven of them made their way down the hall.
"Why are you acting like this? Amu, I know you missed them." Kaien asked, worried for his niece.
Amu sighed, looking at the door longingly, "It's better like this. If I push them away they won't get pulled into this world."
"Of vampires." Kaien pointed out knowingly.
Amu nodded, "I don't want them in my problems. I've caused enough trouble."
"You can't force them to hate you Amu." Kaien advised.
Amu gave Kaien a rueful smile, "I can try to make them at least."
―――
Amu silently led the seven out of the Administrative Building once they all changed into their new Day Class uniforms. She didn't bother to look any of them over; she just wanted to get this over with. For the others, they took in the differences with Amu.
Rima noticed the guarded look in Amu's honey eyes, the same guarded look Amu had with people outside their group in Seiyo- her "cool-and-spicy" signature look. It made Rima wonder why Amu was treating them like strangers when they were friends. Or had been friends. Had that much actually change over the past few months?
Kairi noticed how reserved Amu had become, how quite she was with them. Her attitude had most defiantly changed. She didn't look at them with warm honey eyes that welcomed them to talk to her. No, now Amu's eyes were cold and daring them to approach her. Kairi didn't like that, not knowing how she would react. Not knowing her anymore in general.
Nagihiko saw the change in how Amu carried herself. She was no longer slumping in grief or wallowing her heart as she cried. Now Amu held herself tall, confident and strong. Amu guarded herself, her heart and mind, yet she was cold and strong, clumsy still (he could tell) but graceful. Amu had become resilient, that much was known now.
Kukai just watched Amu as she walked, trying to figure her out along with Utau, Tadase and Ikuto. When they had entered the airport, Ikuto finally admitted that Amu attended this school along with her Uncle- the Headmaster. When they first stepped into town, they had no clue what to expect of Amu. Ikuto guessed she would have still been grieving the loss of her family and charas- which was totally understandable. It was normal.
What they hadn't expected was such a cold Amu, who brushed them off her shoulder. They thought that Amu would have been ecstatic to see them, but she wasn't. In fact she had seemed genuinely upset, but didn't say so. Amu had gone with it, agreed to her duty by her Uncle, and was doing exactly that now.
"This is where you will be attending the class as Day Class students. All of you will be going in as juniors, even you Ikuto. If you'd like to talk your grade level out, complain to the Headmaster." Amu bluntly informed. "As a member of the Disciplinary Committee, I naturally have to exert the utter importance of following the rules of Cross Academy."
"Headmaster Cross has informed us of the rules." Tadase pitched in.
Amu suddenly pivoted, "Headmaster Cross is a very cheery man, naturally he will tell you the rules- seeing at that is his job. This is mine and I expect you follow them otherwise I will detain you like every other rule break here."
"You're acting like it's a crime." Rima huffed.
Amu narrowed her eyes, "Just listen for once will you? Do not go out past curfew at sun down. If you are caught, you will be served a punishment. Do not leave school grounds without authorization from the Headmaster. Listen to the Disciplinary Committee, and achieve in your studies. Is this understood?"
"Yes." The seven said in sync for a second time that night.
Amu nodded and preceded her tour, but Utau had enough of the silence. "Amu, why are you so cold?"
"Wouldn't you be if you lost everything?" Amu asked bluntly, not even looking at them. "I lost my parents Utau, and my charas. Even myself. Every time I look at you Utau, I see Ami singing and dancing and you are just the constant reminder that my little sister is dead. I look at you all, and I'm reminded of the littlest things of the people I lost."
"It's not our fault though Amu!" Utau protested, but Ikuto quickly grabbed his sister's arm to shut her up.
Amu nodded, "I already know that. Trust me, you have no idea how I know it wasn't your fault."
There was double meaning in Amu's words. They all knew it, but they knew Amu wouldn't tell them anything. Still, Amu's words hurt them more- especially Utau who was reminded of the little girl who idolized her from the beginning.
"Any more questions before I lead you to the boy and girl dormitories?" Amu asked, hesitating inside. They deserve this chance to ask. They deserve answers and I'll answer as best I can. "This will be the only time I ask, otherwise I will not answer."
"Where is Dia?" Tadase asked, noticing the orange chara missing.
Amu smiled sadly and touched the spot her heart was located, "She said it was time. I already found who I was- I just need to realize it now." Amu tsked. "Who would have thought I was actually a sadistic girl who was emotionally unstable with a screwed up past?"
"Oh Amu." Kukai muttered.
"What do you mean by screwed up past?" Ikuto asked, slightly offended.
Amu shook her head, "It's not about any of you, and therefore it concerns none of you."
"How are you feeling now a days Amu-chan?" Nagihiko asked gently, earning a soft smile from his pinkette friend.
"To be honest, I've been a lot better than I was a few weeks ago. Yuki, Zero, my Uncle and even some of the Night Class have helped me see a light at the end of the tunnel." Amu chuckled. "Especially Zero and Yuki- they wouldn't leave me alone!"
"You sound close with the two of them." Ikuto said, trying to keep his jealous tone at bay. He already had a problem with this Zero.
"Yuki is actually the adoptive daughter of the Headmaster- so she's like my cousin in a way." Amu stopped herself from telling about Zero. He wouldn't want them to know his business, and she wouldn't tell, so she dropped the subject and replied. "Zero is just a good friend."
Amu knew that wasn't true, but she wasn't going to tell them that. They didn't need to know. "It's getting late and I'm sure you are all tired-"
"Amu-chan!"
Amu groaned, easily recognizing that tone.
"Aidou." Amu replied coldly, causing the blonde to flinch.
"Amu!" Aidou pouted. "You're so mean to me."
"Why are you out of class? You know it is prohibited for you to be out of class at this time!" Amu barked, narrowing her eyes at the troublemaker.
Utau noticed the male, Aidou, uniform was different. It was white with black- so this was a Night Class student. The seven of them watched as Aidou annoyed Amu, who was one the verge of losing her patience with the blonde.
"I saw you with new students and got naturally curious!" Aidou grinned.
Amu's eye twitched, "Curiosity killed the cat Aidou."
Aidou chuckled, glancing at the hoister she had hidden that carried Crimson Hearts, "Now don't be such a brute like Zero. You and him spend too much time with one other that you're taking his attitude on!"
Ikuto twitched at that but Amu sighed in defeat, "Go back to class before I report to both Headmaster and Kaname for sexual harassment."
"But I did nothing wrong!" Aidou protested like a child.
"And who will they more likely believe?" Amu questioned with crossed arms.
"You." Aidou mumbled. "You are such a buzz kill."
"And you are stupid." Amu smirked. "Go back to class Aidou. I'll speak with you another time."
"Is that a promise?" Aidou perked up.
Amu nodded slightly, "Don't make me regret it Hanabusa. Now go before Zero catches you out and about."
Amu watched as Aidou retreated before glancing at the seven people behind her, "Do yourself a favor and say away from the Night Class."
"Why?" Kairi asked.
"They are nothing but trouble." Amu muttered, continuing her walk in silence. Eventually Amu delivered the boys to the male dormitory and then the girls to the female dormitory, but talking to the designated dorm presidents as leaving the seven in their care.
―――
Amu decided to skip her shower when she finally reached her room in her Uncle's building, sighing when she shut the door behind her. Her mind was spinning and all she wanted was sleep. She wanted to forget just for now, about everything. Turning on her room light, Amu nearly had a heart attack seeing Zero sitting on her bed.
"Zero do you have any idea what time it is right now?" Amu asked is disbelief.
"I know." Zero started. "I needed- we need to talk."
Amu shook her head, "Can't this wait Zero?"
"No, it can't." Zero came closer to Amu, very nearly pinning her to her door. "I want to do the ritual Amu."
Amu's honey eyes widen in surprise, this had been the last thing she expected. "You realize the price of that ritual. Our lives are tied until the day I die, and even then you die too."
Zero nodded, "I understand that Amu, and I know that I am fine dying the day you die because Amu I care. I never admitted that out loud but I care about you a lot more than I should have, but the day I met you there was something different. It wasn't you're sadness, it was the spark in your eyes."
Amu's eyes reflected her confusion, "I don't understand Zero."
Zero smiled slightly, raising his hand to her cheek, "You're different than any other person I've met. You accept me, and care for me."
"So does Yuki." Amu whispered. "You love her."
Zero shook his head, "A part of me use to love her Amu. Now there's someone else I think I'm starting to fall in love with."
Amu's eyes widen, "Zero.."
"Let's me try one thing." Zero whispered, looking in her eyes for a response but got none. Instead he leaned forward and lightly pressed his lips against hers. For a second, Amu didn't respond but then she did- only for a second before she pulled away.
"I can't." Amu whispered. "Not with everything that's going on Zero-"
"I know." Zero whispered, leaning his forehead against hers. "You can trust me Amu."
Amu nodded with tears, "I know."
Zero nodded then he slowly kissed down her neck, gently sucking her pulsing point enough to get a soft moan and carefully bit into the skin. Zero's curiosity got the better of him, looking into her emotions. Amu was all over the place- happy, sad, angry, confused, and exsusted. He saw how Amu felt toward him, more than friends but not quite yet, and her feelings for Ikuto. She felt like she was betraying her first love by falling for the second.
If she really loved Ikuto then she would have never started to love me. Zero though with a bitter satisfaction.
Somehow, admitting his feeling out loud- Zero found it easier to control his bloodlust. Soon enough he was retracing his fangs, licking the access blood. Looking up, Zero found Amu with a tear stained face and knew she felt guilty. Her heart was torn and he was a part of that reason why.
"I'm sorry." Zero whispered.
Amu shook her head, "No, thank you for telling me the truth."
Zero nodded, "Amu you shouldn't blame yourself."
"I want to protect them." Amu whispered. "I don't want them hurt."
"You can't protect them all the time." Zero reminded, pulling Amu into his embrace. "You need to think of your state of mind first for once."
"You're being too affectionate now Zero." Amu pointed out as she relaxed in his embrace. Zero only held her tighter, before lifting her up and laying her in her bed. Then turned away to go to his own room, but Amu caught onto his sleep. "Lay with me. I don't want to be alone anymore- I'm tired of always being alone."
Zero frowned, lying next to her as he stroked her pink hair, "You were never alone Amu. You'll never be alone."
"Promise?" Amu asked softly as her honey eyes fluttered shut.
"I promise never to leave your side." Zero declared softly, listening as her heart beat became steady.
―――
Yuki ended up escorting Amu's old friends to class. Amu and Zero never showed to help them, which caused Yuki to scowl. She understood why Amu wouldn't show up, but Zero? Yuki shook her head, Zero must have spoken with Amu last night or early this morning. That's what Yuki told herself at least.
Ikuto frowned when Yuki was the one escorting them. He really thought Amu would be the one to come and retrieve them, but his hopes had been tonight. He should have saw the signs. How on edge Amu was last night, maybe she was pushed to her limit and couldn't make it. Still, Ikuto just wished Amu would be his Amu once again.
When entering the Day Class classroom, naturally they scanned the students. All the Day Class students were staring and murmuring at them, trying to figure out why there were so many new students. Yuki took that as her sign to leave and scurried to her seat besides Yori. Yori shook her head with an amused smile at her friend. Yuki had been gone before she woken up this morning, which was rare.
"You must be the new transfer students." The Teacher, Mr. Hibiki announced. "There's only seven? I was under the oppression we were gaining eight new students."
"Eight?" Yuki whispered, glancing at Amu- who actually showed up for once with Zero, but the pinkette just gave a shrug. Distinctively, Yuki noticed the newfound closeness of Zero's and Amu's seat, but didn't question it.
"I must have been mistaken." Mr. Hibiki muttered before clapping his hands. "Please introduce yourselves!"
Rima was the first to go, "My name is Rima Mashiro."
Nagihiko elbowed her side slightly, but Rima did not continue so he went, "Hello, my name is Nagihiko Fujisaki and I enjoy dancing."
Some of the Day Class girls got heart in their eyes as they declared their newfound love. Rima shot them all a glare, which Amu caught. A soft smile graced her lips, indeed she missed things in her friends life's- like their get togethers and such.
"Tadase Hortori, I like sweets." Tadase said softly.
"Kukai Soma is the name and I'm quite sure I can beat you in soccer." Kukai grinned widely, glancing up at Amu- catching her smile quickly turn into a frown. That made him feel confident. If they could make her smile when they weren't looking, Amu couldn't really hate them.
"Kairi Sanjo. I like to read and study." Kairi stated, pushing his glasses up.
"Utau Hoshina. I'm sure you already know who I am." Utau sweat dropped when fan boys and girls yelled in pleasure as they declared their love. She was hoping they'd be more clam.
"You're Amu-chan's friend!" One girl squealed, and then looked up at Amu who was glaring coldly at her.
"Didn't I tell you it was rude to butt into other people's lives?" Amu snapped.
"Sorry." She muttered, looking away.
Utau frowned at Amu, who now refused to look their way. She was so cold and upsetting towards other people. Utau wanted to know why. What happened to the girl she knew? No, she was still in there. This girl, this version of Amu was the one that lost her parents and herself.
"Yo, Ikuto Tsukiyomi. I play the violin." Ikuto's blue eyes never left Amu and that guy- Zero. Ikuto didn't even like the name Zero, let alone the guy. He noticed their closeness, how he would turn his head and whisper to her. While Amu would nod and mutter something incoherent back.
"You can take any empty seats opened." Mr. Hibiki instructed. Kukai sat on the right class of the class room, close to the door. Rima sat near the front of the class next to a quite girl who looked the less bothersome. Kairi sat next to Rima, wanting to pay attention to the class- he actually cared about his education here. Nagihiko sat on the top right, in the desk across from Zero, leaving the space open for Ikuto to sit next to the silver haired man- but Ikuto sat in front of Amu next to Yuki and another girl. Utau sat in front of Ikuto. "Mr. Hibiki." Kaien knocked on the door, coming in with a pained expression.
"I have one more student." In came an orange haired male, with piercing green eyes that reminded Amu of a snake. He walked in with his hands shoved in his pockets, a grin on his face. He wore the school uniform the same way as Ikuto and Zero- lose and giving off a bad boy vibe. A shiver went down Amu's spine; a small gasp escaped her lips. This caused Ikuto and Zero to turn towards her.
"Introduce yourself boy." Kaien said, looking at Amu. His eyes were soft and worried, and Amu didn't understand why- neither did Yuki who saw how Kaien looked as he left somewhat hesitantly.
"My name is Kyou Aki, and I magic." Kyou smirked as his gaze landed on Amu, leaving Amu feeling in danger.
―――
Class passed by in a blur, but tension was in the air the whole tried to ignore it, but she couldn't. She felt like she was suffocating by the end of the third hour, and felt dead by the end of the sixth hour. Ikuto had turned back occasionally, each time Zero glared at him to leave Amu the hell alone. When the bell rang, Amu practically flew down the stairs and out the room before anyone had a chance to catch her. Kukai had followed her along with the others, but when Zero went to follow Yuki grabbed his sleeve and shook her head. Amu ended up back at the willow tree outside the horse stables, trying to catch her breath. She could breathe again; it felt as if a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. It wasn't because of her friends, it was Kyou Aki. She heard that name somewhere before, and knew deep down it meant nothing good. She didn't want to be near that guy.
"Amu-chan." Kukai gently called, approaching her carefully.
"Kukai." Amu whispered looking down. "I'm sorry."
"Why are you sorry?" Utau asked next, staying back.
Amu lifted her head, allowing them to see how torn she really was. "You don't belong here, none of you do. You need to go back to Seiyo."
"You're hiding something." Ikuto muttered, crossing his arms. "We aren't leaving you alone now."
"Then you're all fools." Amu chuckled darkly, shaking her head with a sadistic smile. If she couldn't make them hate her, maybe she could make them fear her.
"You won't make it here." "What are you talking about?" Rima asked. Amu tilted her head, "Nothing." Amu shook her head, "Forget it. Why are you all out here anyway?"
"You ran out pretty fast." Nagihiko pointed out.
"We naturally followed you. Why are you all the way out here? It's far from the main buildings."
Amu shrugged, "This is my thinking spot. These stables hold the horses used in physical education classes."
In the distance loud yelling a whistle could be heard. Amu sweat dropped then sighed as she began walking towards the noise, no rush to getting there now. The seven of them followed Amu, who was being extremely slow.
"What's over there?" Tadase asked.
"The Day Class girls love to greet the Night Class students. It's too much of a rucks of you asked me. It's a part of a Disciplinary Committee member's duty to regulate the girls daily and make sure that the Night Class makes it to class safely." Amu explained.
"Why do they cause such a ruckus over a bunch of Night Class student's?" Ikuto asked.
"The Night Class is full of extremely beautiful students who can be self-centered. The Day Class girls are naturally attracted to them." Amu sighed. "Plus they are seniors so most girls like older men."
"Seniors? Then why isn't Ikuto in that class?" Utau asked curiously.
"It's too late in the year plus it's full. He'd never catch up in time at the speed they go." Amu smoothly lied. She couldn't tell them Ikuto couldn't join because the class was full of vampires now. "All classes here at Cross Academy are advanced."
"And how are you doing in your studies Amu-chan?" Kairi asked, causing
Amu to stop and sweat drop. "They- ugh, I'm scheduled to retake some stuff I missed with a tutor." Amu scratched the back of her head. "I miss a lot because I'm a school perfect; I have a lot to do."
"What do you do anyway?" Rima asked next. Amu turned towards them and for the first time she grinned at them like her old self would.
"Just watch." Then she raced towards Yuki and Zero, yelling and barking at the Day Class girls to get into a straight line or they'd be punished. At her command they lined up, and then the Night Class gates opened up. The seven of them all watched as a group of beautifully pale people walked out, recognizing Aidou from last night- who tried to talk to Amu and got pulled away from Zero. They watched how Amu smiled at Zero, full of happiness- how her honey eyes held so much trust when they looked at Yuki and Zero. Ikuto noticed how close Amu stood next to Zero absentmindedly, and glared- then calmed down when Amu moved away to talk to Yuki.
They felt like outsiders looking in on Amu's new life, but they refused to be pushed away so easily again.

I hope you all enjoyed this chapter, and I hope I got the character's reactions as close as you hoped they were. I'm curious to see what you all thought of Zero's confession, originally it wasn't supposed to be until later but I saw an opportunity and took it! Let me know what characters you want more interactions with!
Please leave a review, I'd especially like to see your thoughts and reactions to this chapter. It would mean a lot if I could get up to 85 reviews! Thanks again!
