Chapter 10: Confessions, Criminals, and Code-names (Part 1)

Andrews POV

It was them! {37.56 percent Nothing!}
I took another step back. {what should I do?} I looked at Destiny. She was gazing back and forth at us.
"Um guys? I'm extremely confused." She said.
"Count me in!" Josh said loudly.
My pulse started racing, I was getting really nervous. This wasn't good at all.
"Okay, stop glaring at each other!" Destiny yelled at both me and Scott. "Now what the heck Esè? Tell me what this is about! O me entero de mí mismo!"(Or I find out myself!) I knew she was mad. She never Spanglish's around me, unless she's upset. "Drew?"
"Uhh." I tried to speak, but I was trying to conceal my emotions. If they got out of hand, then I got out of hand. {Conceal it, don't feel, don't let her know.} I chanted, over and over in my mind.
"We've met before." Scott interjected.
"What? How?" Destiny asked.
"Just this afternoon. Right before we came over." He answered.
"These are the mystery freaks?!" Sam yelled.
"Yeah." I whispered.
"Freaks?" Destiny snapped. "I'll have you know that I'm-"
"Destiny! It's like, okay." Kitty interjected.
"You know what?" Destiny continued. "You're probably right."
I could see her 'friends' relax. But it was short lived. Her face turned hard and determined. I gulped.
"I want to know what happened. You." She said, pointing at me. "Sit down and talk."
"F-fine." I consented. I sat across from her and Scott. "So- well. Uhh. It's like-" I struggled to begin.
Scott sighed then spoke up."We arrived in Dakota at the old barn about a half a mile away from your house. When there we-"
"Wait... The barn. My barn?" Destiny interrupted. "You were there? Is that why you went all weird when I told you about the barn incident?"
"You told him that?" I objected.
"Yes, she did. And it cleared up some things. Anyway, when we arrived, Logan found an electrical box. It had been shot off the box, and left along with the burns from the fire."
"Yeah, I figured that the box shorted out and caused the fire." Destiny added. I squirmed, remembering what really happened.
"I don't think that was what happened" Scott said. "But that's not the point. When we began to walk out, we found him snooping around. We asked him some questions, he wouldn't comply, and he did something I find very interesting. Something normal people couldn't do. Something us 'freaks' might."
I started sweating. He knew, how he figured it out I don't know. Everyone was staring at us, Destiny looked me with her shades blocking out her eyes.
"What does he mean Drew?" She asked. She stood up then continued. "I don't understand."
"I don't know what to say Destiny. I had to run from them. They were strangers asking about something I thought that could lead to us." I tried to protest.
"That's not what I mean, and you know it." She snapped. "What are you hiding?"
I was shaking. Josh and Sam watched me expectantly. Should I tell her, and should I do it in front of these people?
"I, I can't tell you."
"Actually, I'm pretty sure you can." Jean smirked.
"What would you know about it?" I asked her.
"Like, a lot more than you know." Kitty added.
"Listen, we've been best friends for years." She grabbed my shoulders. "I'll tell you my secret, if you spill yours." Destiny purposed.
I thought about it. {shes your best friend. She wont freak... Right? Only one way to find out.}
"Okay. On 3?"
She looked to her friends. They nodded slowly. "Okay."
We chanted together. "1, 2, 3! I'm a-"
BOOOM!
An explosion from close by interrupted us.
"You have GOT to be kidding me!" A kid screamed. He was a couple feet away from us, and had piles of food balancing in his arms. Next to him, another kid groaned.
"Come on V. Lets go."
"Aww! The one time we get to have some fun and, boom, interrupted like that." He yelled again.
Suddenly a wave of screams filled the air, the guys eyes grew wide then turned serious.
"Lets go." He turned to us. "Mind watching our food? Great thanks." He dumped his food on our table then sped off. Some how he looked very familiar.
"That was odd." Bobby stated.
"Really." Destiny said lamely. "You saying that, is the most ironic thing i have ever heard."
"Look who's talking." Rouge smirked.
"Touché."
"What is going on over there?" Sam asked.
"I don't know." Destiny said. "But I'm about to find out." She stood up."you coming?" She smirked.
"Scott, you know what the professor said." Jean said, standing up.
"Yeah, but there are people who are in danger. Besides, there are all sort of weird things in this town. No one will take a second glance."
"In that case," she smirked. "Lets suit up."
"Suit up?" I asked Destiny.
"Uh yeah... Kinda what they do, and I'll be joining them. Except i don't have a suit."
"You're bang-babies aren't you?"
Destiny hesitated, then cracked a nervous smile. "Sorta. I am, I suppose. Them, well, they're a bit different. I'm not quite sure i understand it all yet." The group stood, and ran to a dark alley. Destiny started to run with them, then faltered, her hair brushing up against her cheeks. "Are you mad? That i didn't tell you i mean. I wanted to, sooo bad, but i couldn't."
"Im not mad." I sighed. {now or never} "i know exactly how you felt."
"Yeah, sure. When you start to develop superhuman powers and have to hide them from your best friend, then you can relate."
I shifted awkwardly, with a crooked smile on my face. Destiny's eyes widened suddenly in realization.
"You... You're a bang-baby! Aren't you?" She stepped forward, shades glinting in the sunset.
"Yep. Are you mad?"
She moved on one foot, then to the other. "No, course not. Im just thinking that, if we would have talked to each other, we both would have avoided so much trouble, and hurt, and anxiety."
"I hate to ruin the moment," Gracie yelled. "But there seems to be a mega sauce big explosion going on over their and unlike you two, I HAVE NO SUPER POWERS! I don't wanna die!"
"Right," Destiny said. "Drew, i need you to go with Gracie and your brothers. Make sure they stay safe" She looked me in the eyes. "You stay safe." Then she sprinted to join the now suited group.
"Wait!" I yelled after her. She didn't respond. "What about you?" I sighed.
"Dude, she is covered. Trust me!" Gracie shouted.
"Less talk, more running for our lives." Sam purposed.
"Lovey idea there! I would just hate to die today... just ruins my WHOLE schedule." Josh commented sarcastically. "Nope, nope, no time to put that in. LETS GET OUT OF HERE!"
"Follow me." I took the lead and the three followed close behind. Mostly people running blocked us, but occasionally a piece of flying debris flew near the crowds. I used my electro-magnetic powers to push the flying obstacles away from people.
"Nice job Drew. You seem to have adjusted well with your powers." Gracie commented.
"Yeah, i suppose."
"You know, except for the time you blew up your backyard."
"You knew?!'' I asked, quite shocked.
"Guessed'' she corrected. "Until yesterday, when Josh approached me with his theories about Destiny."
"You knew about her?'' I snapped at Josh.
''Guessed.'' He smile sheepishly.
"We traded info and arranged to get you two together. Only i didn't know at the time we would get a visit and make some new friends.''
"Then why did you stop Destiny from telling me?" I demanded.
"We figured it wasn't the time." Gracie said. "The author wanted you to spill in front of her friends."
"Huh?"
"Okay, I was surprised when Andrew said her 'friends' were coming." Josh said. ''Who are they exactly anyway?
"Well," she panted while we ran. ''I should let them tell you."
And with that, i guided the trio out of the carnival, just as the sun disappeared. And the moon, was left in the dark sky.

Destiny's POV

I left Andrew behind, knowing I left my sister in good hands. He could keep her safe with his powers. {Wait a second. I never asked him what powers he has!} I realized. {Too late now.}
I caught up with Kitty and the others. Their suits were so cool. I felt kind of plain in my blue tee, jean skirt and leggings. Debris was flying everywhere, and the wind was unusually strong as we ran to the source of the explosion and chaos, only to be met by a surprise.
"Heeeheee." A maniacal voice cackled. "Burn baby BURN!" An older teenage stood kindling fire in his palms, his spiked hair in flames, as were various part of his body. And so was a booth that once held needle work.
"Hot-streak." I gasped aloud.
"Like Hot-streak?" Kitty asked.
"Yeah. He was... Is a villain that Static took down last month. He was sent to a prison in upstate New York. What is he doing here?"
"What ever it is..." Scott said leader-like. "We need to take him down. Cat, Nightcrawler; keep Hot-streak off balance."
They nodded, and went out from the group.
"Jean, Spike." He said turning to the pair. "We'll close range attack him. Let's end this."
"What about Bobby and I?" I asked
"Ice-man." Bobby corrected.
I rolled my eyes as Scott rubbed his chin. "You to make sure everyone's out of the carnival. Once you are sure everyone is out, you and Bobby-"
"Ice-man!" Bobby interrupted.
"You and Ice-man" Scott corrected himself coldly. "Stay out of the fight, and keep yourselves hidden."
"What?!" Bobby and I shouted simultaneously.
"Dude, come on. We are so not backing out of this. This is AWESOME!" Bobby protested.
"You both just joined the institute and aren't technically a part on the X-men. You've had no training, power-wise and mission-wise, and i won't risk it, for your safety and ours."
"If I'm not a part of the X-men," I said. "Then I don't take orders from you." I smirked.
"Maybe not, but I am in charge of you both whether you like it or not."
"Or not." Bobby murmured
Scott sighed. "Look, if you want to help, keep the people back, and don't let the media get here."
"Fine!" I resented. "But I can handle myself!"
Suddenly a burst of wind flew though the area, knocking all three of us down. My glasses almost fell off, but I caught them.
"Destiny make it stop!" Bobby cried.
"It's not me!" I shouted lifting up my gloved hands.
"We are wasting time." Scott said, standing up. "You two-"
"Help people and keep the media back. Yeah whatever Scott." Bobby grunted.
"Yeah. Stay out of trouble." He ran off then shouted back. "And its Cyclopes!"
I turned to Bobby, and put my hands on my hips. "Cyclopes...really?"
Bobby shrugged. "I know right? My code name's sooo much cooler."
I scoffed, then turned to run. "Come on. Lets get going 'Ice-man'."
We ran though the alleyways of the carnival. As we ran, plants and vines of an ugly sort sprang up in random places.
"Destiny?" Bobby questioned.
"Again, it's not me!"
The plants were growing rapidly, and slowed our run.
"Poison ivy." I informed Ice-man. "Be careful."
"Noted" We maneuvered around them, then we heard a cry for help.
"Where's it coming from?" I asked.
"Over here!" Bobby pointed to a custom tee-shirt cart that was on its side. A woman, in her late 30s, was pinned underneath.
"Help! Oh please help me!"
Her panic was amplified due to the fact that a nearby cart was blazing, and hers was about to be next.
"Bo- Ice-man! Freeze those blazing carts. I'll help this woman."
"Sure Dest- oh... You don't have codename." Bobby pointed out.
"We can figure out the details later!" I yelled. "Just do what I say!" I sprinted over the help the woman.
"Oh, can you help me up?" She gasped.
"Of course." I tried to lift the cart off her torso. "So, what's you name?" I asked, trying to allow a conversation to be at the forefront of the woman's mind.
"Officer Katrina Jesup. "
"Officer? Like police?" I said still struggling.
"Yeah, I was helping the people evacuate when the wind started up, a small green tornado shook everything up. I think it was a criminal, he knocked over a bunch of carts and his winds knocked down a good many other. A mother and small child almost got crushed by this stand. I pushed them out of the way, but I got stuck my-self." She explained. "Are you getting anywhere?" She asked.
I quit pulling. "No. It's no use. This thing wont budge. The ivy's all twisted around it."
"You and your friend should get out of here." She said.
"No way." I laughed, removing my gloves, and tying my flying hair into a ponytail. "We'll just have to use more... Unconventional means."
"This thing will be up in flames any minute now." She protested.
"Nah, my friend's taking care of that."
She wore a look of confusion on her face. "How are you gonna get me out of the fix then?"
"Listen," I began. "Don't be scared, I'm helping you."
"Why would I be scared?" She said, doubt in her tone.
"I can do things, not many people can." I said simply, readying my position, and closing my eyes to concentrate. "Cyclops se me va a matar!"(Cyclops is going to kill me!) I murmured through gritted teeth. My fingers began to glow a bright yellow in one hand, and violet in the other, the wind, which was already blowing violently, swirled around me. My body was lifted a couple of inches off the ground when my eyes, covered by the shades, snapped open. The cart shook, vines sprouted out of the ground and pushed it up slowly at first, then it quickened, and was now holding the cart in the air. Officer Jesup ,who had a very shocked expression, scrambled out from underneath, as I forced it back a ways with the some wind. Seeing she was safe, i dropped the cart, and I was slowly lowered to the ground. My toes hit the ground first, but i sank to my knees, catching my breath. Officer Jesup was still very shaken. She eyed me, wondering what exactly just happened.
"How did you-"
"Long story." I said. I rose to my feet, the weariness quickly leaving. "Are you able to walk?" I asked sprinting to her side.
"I believe so." She grabbed my hand and slowly rose to her feet. "Thanks- How'd you do that?"
"I can control plants and wind.'' Seeing the doubt and remembering that the wind around us was near gale, and that rapidly growing ivy was causing quite a problem, I added. "But someone else is causing this mess."
''Is that all you can do?"
"No actually, I can control water, earth, and fire too." I replied. "Why do you ask?"
"It's just, Static has more than one aspect of his powers." She responded.
"Aspect?" I inquired.
"Yeah, Static's power is electricity, but aspects of that means he can make and control lightning and electricity, and he can also control electro-magnetic fields." She explained hastily. "You can control water, fire, earth, air, wind, and plants. All aspects of which are controlling elements."
"How do you know so much about super powers?" I asked.
"I'm a police officer working in Dakota City, why do you think?" She cracked a smile.
Just then a glassy, looking figure approached us. It was Bobby, and he looked kinda weird.
"Hey De-" he began, then noticing the officer. "Girl, you, with no codename. Cyclops needs us."
"What? I thought we weren't supposed to get involved?" I said. "And why are you made of ice?"
"Cool huh? I whipped this up for my costume." He replied, the turned back to business. "Well Laser-brain changed his mind, I just got an instant mind message from Jean. Come on... You-" he said struggling, then letting out an exasperated sigh. "You really need a codename."
"I know."
"Uh, miss?" Officer said.
"Yes?"
"You can control the elements, right?" I nodded. "Then base you codename off that."
"Off that?'' I said thinking aloud. "Off my powers, off...Element!" I snapped my fingers.
"Element?" Bobby asked him-self. "Element. I like it!"
"Me too!" I turned to Officer Jesup "Thank you." I said.
"No, thank you. Just don't get into trouble!" She yelled as she sprinted away.
The sky was now dark, the moon left alone as the sun gave it's last light. I turned to Bobby, smiling.
"Lets go Ice-man. Element has a criminal to take down."
