Okay, I'm choosing the moving up to James's fifth year. Teddy and Victoire are now married, and Defence and Charms professors at Hogwarts, after Zipton decided to do a more hands-on approach to the Dark Arts so went backpacking and Flitwick retired. Enjoy!
Holiday
The plane was first class, filled with boring business men and posh women. Everyone was thoroughly surprised when thirty three passengers, most with bright red hair, rushed onto the plane. This was of course the Weasley/Potter family, and they were off on their first annual holiday to the Caribbean.
'Sorry we're late!' yelled Arthur Weasley, mopping the bald patch on his head with a handkerchief.
'Would you like to sit in rows D, E, F, G and H,' said the stewardess, trying hard to stay polite. James ended up between Louis and Albus. Teddy and Victoire were across the aisle, but they started snogging as soon as they sat down.
'Get a room,' the three boys said under their breath. But they had recently got engaged, so they were allowed to kiss in public. Louis picked up the complementary pamphlet and turned to the others.
'Do either of you know what Coke is?' he asked.
'No idea,' they replied in unison.
'It's a Muggle drink,' said Harry, turning around to look at them through the crack between the seats. 'It's very nice; I'll order three cans for you.'
'We can do it Dad, just give us some money,' said Albus. When Harry handed them a ten pound note they stared at it, looking amazed.
'What on earth is that?' asked James.
'Muggle money, now quieten down, we're getting weird looks. That should be enough for a Coke and snack each. Behave, or I'm moving you to sit between Percy and Molly!' They ordered their drinks and a Twix, some Pringles and Maltesers. James grabbed his can and flicked it open, taking a huge swig. He promptly snorted and a jet of it flew out his nose. Albus and Louis roared with laughter as he choked and gasped, eyes watering.
'That's really good!' he said, grinning. The other two took more tentative sips, but found they liked it too. They had fun sampling the snacks, and found they could order free ice, which promptly went down the back of Teddy's neck when he was distracted by Victoire.
They were staying in a massive villa three steps away from the beach. James was sharing with his brother and Louis, which they were immensely pleased about. They were on the top floor and their balcony was perfect for throwing water balloons and other missiles.
'Swee-et,' said Louis, stretching out the word as he jumped on his bed. James picked up a pillow and whacked him on the head with it. 'Oi!' Albus laughed and grabbed his own pillow, thumping James with it. In ten seconds it was a full-blown pillow fight, and when the material split and feathers flew everywhere they threw them at each other.
In the end Victoire walked in to tell them they were going swimming, to find that every surface in their room was covered in feathers. It looked like there'd been a snowstorm.
'You three are going to be slaughtered,' she laughed.
'Ah, come on sis, repair it for us!' begged Louis. She sighed and pulled her wand out.
'You're lucky I'm such a nice sister,' she said, waving her wand. The feathers flew back into the pillows again and the material repaired itself. 'Now, there's a massive pool and diving boards and stuff, so grab some trunks and come outside.'
The boys rummaged through their suitcases, throwing anything in their way onto the floor until they found their swimming trunks. James and Louis cracked up when they saw that Albus only had Speedos which were far too small.
'Shut up! I'll get some more when we go to town!' he huffed, marching out the room. The other two followed, still howling with laughter. The pool really was massive, and kidney shaped, with a shallow area on one side and a deeper diving area on the other. A group of cousins were playing on the boards (there were three – springboard, two point five metre board and five metre board) and some younger ones in the shallow end. Lots of the older girls, including Victoire, were sunbathing. The boys of course ran straight to the five metre board.
'Hey, you three!' Roxanne grabbed Louis's foot as he was climbing up. 'If you're planning to dive, I would practice on the springboard first. Fred went straight off and belly flopped.'
'Thanks sis!' yelled Fred, who was sporting a very red torso. 'And I slipped, I wasn't trying to dive!'
'Whatever. You should see Dom though, she's incredible,' said Roxanne. Dom was on the five metre board. She took a deep breath and jumped, somersaulting twice before twisting horizontally, doing a pike and diving in perfectly, without a splash.
'Holy hell!' cried Albus. 'How did you learn to do that?'
'Dom has had diving lessons since she was eight,' explained Victoire, coming up to the deep end to investigate.
'Can you teach me?' asked James.
'Sure, but I'd start on the springboard first,' said Dom, resurfacing. After spending a while learning to dive, they all headed down to the beach to sunbathe. At least, the girls lolled in the sun, the boys chased and tackled each other into the sea.
'You know, I think this could be a good holiday,' said James, grinning. He opened his mouth to say more but was tackled by twelve year old Billy, and went under the water. 'Hey!' retaliating, he pulled his legs out from under him and jumped on top.
'BUNDLE!' yelled Louis.
Next morning, James was jetlagged and woke up far too early. The villa was right on the end of the island, and owned two of the beaches. One, West Beach was gentle and perfect for swimming and playing – they played on that one yesterday. The other, East Beach (they weren't imaginative with names) was on the Atlantic side, so had massive waves. Though they had never been to America, they had gone on holiday to Cornwall or Devon plenty of times, and James was a born surfer.
'Wicked!' he ran downstairs to the equipment room, which was stuffed full of scuba diving BCDs and flippers. There were a pile of surfboards, and he picked the best – a red and white Bilbo Torpedo, seven foot four inches high with three fins. Tucking it under his arm, he sprinted out, down the garden and onto the beach.
The waves were perfect, and he immediately jumped on the board and started paddling out towards them. It was a surprisingly long way, but he was strong and fit and didn't get too tired. Soon he was close enough; he tensed, ready for the pop-up. This was the most important part. If he didn't pull this off properly, the wave would be ruined.
He did it perfectly, pushing up onto his feet without a wobble. And then he was riding the wave. It was the most exhilarating feeling ever, wind and spray in his face, board under his feet. He rode it for a while, before getting distracted. Some cousins had come down to watch; he turned to look at them and instantly lost his balance. Flipping into the air, he somersaulted before tumbling into the wave. The surfboard swung round and hit him, his nose made a sharp crack and he yelled out as he went under. Tons of water went over him as he rolled, struggling to get to the surface. Finally his head popped up out of the water. His surfboard was still attached; he climbed on, using the tide to float himself back.
'You were amazing James!' cried Lily. 'Well, until you fell. But even that was pretty cool.'
'Thanks,' James climbed out and tucked the board under his arm again.
'What happened to your face?' cried Victoire.
'Eh?'
'It's broken, must have happened when you fell,' explained Teddy. He whipped out his wand and tapped James's nose three times. James felt a burning sensation and winced as the bones moved back into place.
'Thanks, I'd better wash up,' James ran into the house. After a quick shower, he pulled on some shorts and a Weird Sisters t-shirt before heading outside. The servants, who somehow avoided ever being seen, had set out breakfast – soft white rolls, pastries, whipped butter and cream, jam, fruit and coffee.
'We're planning to swim out to that tiny island just off the shore of East Beach,' said Fred as he sat down.
'Why not take the boats,' replied James, grabbing a croissant and smothering it in cream and strawberry jam.
'Boats?'
'Yes, eejit, the two powerboats moored up on the jetty. Why don't we take those?'
'Good point. Okay, we can take the boats out and explore the island. It isn't big, but it looks cool and there's a big rock we can jump off.'
'Take some rope,' suggested Simon. 'We can make a rope swing.'
'Good idea!' in the end Fred, Roxanne, James, Albus, Lily, Teddy, Dom, Louis, Simon and Hugo decided to go. Luckily the powerboats were big and they all squeezed in. Fred and Teddy raced each other, performing doughnuts and nearly throwing everyone else out.
They tied the boats to a tree and scrambled up the steep slope to the island, scraping their arms and legs on sharp rocks. Finally they hauled themselves over the edge and lay there, clutching the stitches in their sides. After a while they sat up and looked around. The view was incredible. They could see the entire island, and miles out to sea.
'This is beautiful! We must bring a picnic up here,' said Lily.
'And get it up that slope?'
'Use your brain, there are plenty of overage wizards in the family, they can hover it up the slope.'
'Hey guys, look at this – AAARGH!' Fred yelled as he stepped on a pile of loose stones. They gave away beneath him and he tumbled twenty feet into the sea. They all watched where he had fallen with bated breath for a few seconds, until his auburn head popped out of the water and he looked up, grinning.
'You guys have to try that!' he yelled. There was a tiny beach with a perfect cliff for climbing up nearby, and he swum over and climbed up. 'Honestly, it's the most exhilarating thing ever!'
'Alright, bro, but maybe not in quite the same way,' replied Roxanne. They found a big rock over a particularly deep patch of water. It even had a sturdy overhanging tree where you could attach the rope that Simon had struggled with up the hill. Though it was four years after his kidnapping, Simon still hadn't got back the former stockiness he had had before, though he still maintained his dream of joining the BWA.
After Simon had tied the rope, they stripped off to the trunks and swimming costumes they wore underneath, and lined up to jump off. Teddy stepped up first, as oldest, and took a tight hold on the rope. Taking a deep breath, he ran forward and jumped, letting go at just the right time so that he didn't scrape down the cliff nor did he fall on his back. His hair flashed different colours as he fell.
'Mega cool!' cried James. 'I have to try that!' He ran forward, grabbing the rope as he went, and jumped, yelling as he fell. He went straight into the water, going surprisingly deep. He kicked up hard, and after a few moments his head broke the surface. 'Oh my god I have to try that again!'
They all started jumping off. James found that he could climb the cliff well, and tried to go as fast as he could. It was his second or third jump when he was halfway up the cliff, and he heard Lily cry for help. Looking round, he saw she was clinging to a ledge, trying to reach for the next handhold.
'Help James!' she cried. 'I'm stuck!'
'It's okay, I'm coming,' said James soothingly, climbing along towards her. He saw that the ledge was big enough for them both to stand on. 'How on earth did you find the one place on this entire cliff where you could get stuck?' He stepped onto the ledge, holding onto a tough little plant growing out of the cliff, and reach down to haul Lily up. They were at a complete dead end, the next crack a metre out of their reach. James looked around, and saw that they were in jumping reach of deep water. Smiling, he turned to Lily.
'Lily,' he said seriously. 'You have to trust me completely, okay? Now, hold onto me.' She nodded and wrapped and arm around his waist. He didn't wait for her to work out what was going on, just jumped, pushing them away from the cliff as far as possible. Lily screamed as they fell, clinging on to James. When they came up to the surface she punched him on the arm.
'You scared me!' she said angrily. 'But thanks for getting me off the ledge.'
'My pleasure, sis.'
The rest of the holiday was spent mucking around, swimming and hanging out on the beach. They had their planned water balloon fight, until the adults yelled at them for soaking the house. They all got very tanned, apart from Victoire who was somehow always pale. But most of all they just had a good time, playing and sunbathing.
