Chapter 9: Stuck in the Dark

I woke up the next morning happier than ever. Brick and I were on good terms with each other and Bubbles had told me that Boomer and her were going on a date tonight. I couldn't be more happy for her because I knew that those whole situation with Brick and I was holding her back some. She really likes him and I know for a fact that he really likes her. They are just too cute for each other.

My phone started to ring, bringing me out of my thoughts.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Hey, Bloss." Brick said.

"Hey, what's up?" My curiosity peaking.

"Not much. I was just wondering if we could hang out and talk. I missed you these past weeks." He admitted.

"I did too. What was on your mind?" Still wondering what he was planning.

"I'll pick you up an in hour and you'll find out then." He said, and I knew he was going to hang up soon.

"Before you hang up, because I know you're about to, tell me if we will be indoors or outdoors."

"Both." He said, then the line went dead.

I sent him a text in all caps; BRICK. He sent the same thing back to me in all caps, but with my name; BLOSS.

I didn't even bother replying and went straight to my closet. I found a spaghetti strap tank top that had flowy sleeves attached, but it showed my shoulders. Buttercup called it my pirate shirt. I also found some jean shorts that weren't too short, they reached just about my mid thigh, they also had small Aztec print on the pockets. They were dark washed and were also a bit frayed at the end. I paired the outfit with some brown strappy sandals. I also found an off white cowboy hat the Bubble got me the two weeks she went to Texas last summer. I figured that it was one of the hottest weeks of the summer, I would pull it out for her, even though I wouldn't be seeing her.

Thinking of that, I took a quick picture and sent it to her with the caption, "Day out with Brick, Bubbs approved?"

I immediately got a response, "Yes! Have fun! BUT please do something different with your hair?"

I laughed as I put my phone in my back pocket and took my hat off to run a brush through my hair. I then quickly ran my straightener through as well. I then put my hat back on my head. Sending another text to Bubbles that read; "P.S. Hope you have fun on your date tonight!"

I walked down my stairs to the living room and went in search for the Professor.

"Professor!" I called but there was no answer.

I even called down to his lab but again there was no answer. I went to the kitchen and found a note on the fridge.

"Blossom,

I needed to go to a town about three hours away from here. I will see you tomorrow!

-Professor."

I read the note with a frown. I sent the Professor a text that said I would be out with Brick and if he needed anything while he was away to just let me know. He didn't reply as fast as Bubbles, he didn't even reply at all.

I put the note on the table and sat down in one of the chairs. I was so lost in thought that I didn't hear the honk of a horn or the pounding of a fist on my front door. I didn't even know that Brick into my house until I saw him coming in my back door.

"Brick, what are you doing?" I asked shocked that he actually broke into my house.

"Well, I honked, and knocked on your front door. God, Bloss, I thought something bad happened to you, but no, you're just sitting at your kitchen table!" He seemed angry, usually I could throw it right back at him complaining that he broke into my house but I just didn't have the strength to fight him.

"I'm sorry." I said sadly looking down at the ground, my hat covering my face.

"Hey, what's wrong?" Concern dripping out of his voice as he knelt down in front of my chair that I was now sitting sideways in, so he was looking up at me.

"It's nothing." I said trying to avoid the subject but he didn't let it go that easily.

"It's obviously not nothing, I can see it bothering you. You look like you could cry or something." Worry etched his face.

"It's just that the Professor left for the day and only left a note. I don't think I would feel like this if he would have actually told me in person, but he just left me a note." I sighed.

Brick reached for my hand, hesitantly, and said, "I will never leave you. I don't think I could."

I gave him a small smile as he gave my hand a light squeeze.

"How much do you wanna bet that he did try to wake you up, but you just looked so peaceful that he didn't bother." He said.

"I bet five dollars." I gave a small laugh and smile.

"Five dollars? Only five dollars!" He asked incredulously.

"Yeah, only five dollars." I said, my smile growing.

"Hey, let's go. I've got a full day planned for us." He said pulling me along to his car.

I walked out of the front door locking it in the process. Brick was climbing in the driver's seat of an old red pickup truck.

"What happened to your other car?" I asked hopping in the passenger seat.

"Oh, that's Aunt Sara's. I was just borrowing it because I was still working on this baby." He said patting the steering wheel.

"I like it." I said truthfully.

"Thanks," was his reply as the thunderous engine came to life.

"So, where are we going?" I asked.

"You'll see." He said looking over at me before putting his eyes back on the road.

He drove for only a few minutes until we reached downtown Townsville. Brick pulled into a parking spot and turned off his old truck. He got out and I slowly unbuckled my seat belt, I notice him running around to my door to open it for me.

"Oh, um, thanks." I said awkwardly.

"No problem." He reached for my hand and I hesitantly let him take it, "C'mon, let's go." He started walking to the local diner that was well known for high school students.

"Brick, what are we doing here?" I asked, confusion evident in my voice.

"We're going to have brunch." He stated simply.

"Good, I'm starving!" I said as we walked across the street hand in hand.

We walked in the front door and were greeted by many of the workers. Brick led me to a table that was almost secluded from the rest of the diner, only a few people using the tables around us.

"B!" I heard someone say.

I turned around to see Aurora working behind the counter.

"Hey, I didn't know that you were working this morning." I spoke to her.

"Yeah, it was a last minute things. Have you been helped yet?" She asked, politely.

"No, but we just got here." I said as she peered around me to see Brick sitting down at the table.

"Let me see who's working this section. Oh, do you want anything besides water?" She asked both of us.

"Coffee with cream." We both said.

I looked at Brick with a smile.

"I didn't know that you liked coffee with cream, I expected you to drink it like black or something." I said.

"No, I think it was Sara's fault, she doesn't like the actual taste of it so she always gets weird flavors that she forces me to drink." He explained.

"Forces?" I asked.

"Yeah, she doesn't have anyone to drink coffee with in the morning so she gets me up and makes me drink with her. I don't mind though, she's a pretty fun aunt."

"Really? I wonder what it's like having one. I mean I met May's sister before but she was pretty boring." I sighed.

"Maybe she could take you back to school shopping or something." He offered with a shy smile.

"Really?" I asked for the second time, "You would let me borrow you aunt for the day?"

"Yeah, but the rule is I have to come too you never know what is going to come out of her mouth."

"Deal, deal, deal!" I said with the biggest smile.

"Here's your coffee, and your cream." Aurora said putting down two mugs of coffee and a tin cup full of creamer. And your actual waiter will be here shortly, we had a girl call in sick and her replacement will be here soon. Sorry for the wait."

"It's alright, thanks. We're not a big hurry anyways." Brick said to her.

Aurora walked away, but not before giving me a small, not very subtle, wink.

"So, what do you want to eat?" He asked smiling at my friends non-subtleness.

"Oh, my god. I don't even know." I said as I picked up the menu.

Aurora came back to take our order because the other waiter was still on his way. Brick and I were just talking about the next show when Cindy came up to me.

"B! It seems like it's been forever." She said as she looked at Brick, "Who's your friend?"

"Cindy, this is Brick, Brick, Cindy." I introduced them, afraid of what Cindy might think of him.

"Hello." Brick said awkwardly.

"Hi, it's great to see Blossom branching out her group of friends. Before Aurora came along it was just the three of them. They hardly talked to the other high schoolers in this place. You should have seen here when she was a little freshman walking in here the first time." Cindy gushed, but I interrupted before she said anything too embarrassing.

"Okay, Cindy. I think you've had a bit too much coffee this morning."

"Oh, Blossom, that hurts. Just for that I think you should sing for us." She said it extremely loud so the whole diner heard.

"Cindy, I can't do that." I objected.

"Why not, Bloss?" Brick chimed in.

"I don't have anything to sing. I can't just sing something off the bat like that." I said, still trying to ignore the stares and chants to sing.

"That's why they call it freestyling or karaoke. Which do you prefer?" Brick asked, still very persistent.

"Fine, but I still don't know what to sing." I stated simply.

"What was the last song you listened to?" Brick asked like it was obvious.

"Nobody Love."

"Then that's what you'll sing."

"I had a feeling I would like this boy." Cindy said and Brick just smirked.

"Give me a beat." I said and Brick started to bust out the rhythm to the song.

"Everybody's looking for their something. No one ever wants to be the prize. Everybody's scared of going nowhere, we ain't going anywhere tonight. I should be more cynical and tell myself it's not okay, to feel this good when I'm with you. Try my best to fight it, say I hate you, but I always stay. Oh oh oh oh oh oh, 'cause." I casually kicked Brick under the table and got up to dance with the people who were really get into the song already. He gave me a what-was-that-for look.

"Ain't nobody love. Ain't nobody love like you do. Ain't nobody love. Ain't nobody love like you oh oh oh do . Ain't nobody love. Ain't nobody love like you do. Ain't nobody love. Ain't nobody love like you oh oh oh do. Wait hold up." I went to go sit on the counter as I snapped my fingers along to the chorus.

"Everybody's talking about the next thing. Feel like what they got ain't good enough. But all I wanna do is release the tension, bring the conversation back to us. I should be more cynical and tell myself it's not okay, to feel this good when I'm with you. Try my best to fight it, say I hate you, but I always stay. Oh oh oh oh oh oh, 'cause." I started to dance with Aurora sitting on the counter and then hopped off to go mess with Brick. By now he had stopped hitting the table and glasses, everyone else had taken his lead.

"Ain't nobody love. Ain't nobody love like you do. Ain't nobody love. Ain't nobody love like you oh oh oh do. Ain't nobody love. Ain't nobody love like you do. Ain't nobody love. Ain't nobody love like you oh oh oh do." I came up behind him and hooked my arms around his neck and made him get up to dance. He turned me around and then put his hands on my hips, very gently and hesitantly.

"Can we stop all the, yelling, baby hear me out. I want you here and now. Try my best to fight it, say I hate you, but I always stay. Hey, hey, hey-yeah. Everybody's looking for that new thing." He twirled me out then back in as I hit the last hey. I gave a short laugh as he tried to break dance as well as some of the other people in the diner.

"Ain't nobody love. Ain't nobody love like you do. Ain't nobody love. Ain't nobody love like you oh oh oh do. Ain't nobody love. Ain't nobody love like you do. Ain't nobody love. Ain't nobody love like you." As everyone clapped and cheered, Brick came back over and hung his arms loosely around my waist and guiding me back to the table.

"I told you so." Brick said as our food was sat down in front of us by the waiter that was suppose to be serving us the whole time.

I smiled and shook my head.

"So, where are we going next?" I asked as we walked out of the diner.

"Well, I have to run something by my aunt's office really fast, then we are off to the beach." He said as he opened the door to his truck for me.

He got in on the other side and we went to the Mayor's office. It was a short ride, just about five minutes. We both got out once he parked his truck and walked inside.

"Afternoon, Brick." A security guard said.

"Afternoon, Carl. How's your wife?" Brick asked casually while we went threw the metal detectors.

"Good, she's getting better. It was rough there for a while." Carl said.

"Good, I'm glad to hear that. Tell her; I'm glad she's doing better." Brick said as we went on our way.

We made our way to the top floor of the building and Brick said he would be right back. I sat down in one of the chairs, closed my eyes, and just thought.

I thought about Brick and I had been before these past weeks had happened. I wondered if we would actually be together now if that had not happened. Would I want that? Would he want that? The feelings I have for him are strong and he makes me happy. The past weeks have been so dark and cold, almost. And today has been amazing so far. My thoughts started to turn negative. What if he was only hanging out with me today out of pity, what if that's what he's talking to Sara about?

"Young lady, get down from there?" A voice broke me from my thoughts.

"I am down, I'm sitting in a chair." I said, stating the obvious.

"No, you're floating. Why are you floating?" The voice asked.

"What?" I screamed, afraid to open my eyes.

"Mayor what are you doing? Bloss?" I heard Brick ask.

"Brick!" I screamed, my eyes flew open.

"What are you doing?" He asked looking up at me.

"I don't know! If I knew what I was doing I wouldn't be doing it." I said freaking out, flipping around in mid air so my hat fell off my head.

"Blossom, give me your phone so I can call the Professor." He said calmly.

I dug my phone from my pocket and tossed it down to him. He opened up phone and called the Professor on speaker phone.

"Blossom, I'm quite busy at the moment. I'm sorry but I will have to call you back." The Professor said.

"Wait, Professor, we have situation that needs to be dealt with right now." Brick said, urgency evident in his voice.

"What is it?" Curiosity laced his.

"I'm floating, Professor!" Panic in mine.

Brick looked up at me, the same look crossed his face as I was just hanging upside down.

"Blossom, you need to calm down. Your emotions got to high and you need to say what is bothering you." The Professor said.

"Professor, I know you trying to be a good dad and everything, but now is not the time to be telling you what I'm feeling." I said annoyed.

"Blossom, tell the man what's wrong. I need you back on ground!" Brick yelled at me.

"You're what's wrong!" I yelled back at him.

"Me?" He questioned.

"Yes you!" My outburst filling the tiny hallway, "I have no idea what you're thinking. I don't know what today is all about. I don't know if you're just trying to take pity on me because of what happened to May. Because I like you, Brick. I mean, like, really like you. Then you go off and kiss some other girl and I can't keep forgetting that these past few weeks haven't happened because they did, but I believe you. I believe that you never did anything with her because that is what my heart is telling me. And I can't help but think of what could have been if she hadn't of messed up everything." I now realized that I was sitting back down on the chair, still upside down, with tears in my eyes.

"Bloss, I think have been thinking about that everyday. Today was nothing to do with pity or anything of the sort, I just really missed you. You put me thru hell and back the last weeks, but know I feel that everything is practically fixed, I was taking it a bit slow." He explained as I turned myself right side up and he helped me stand up.

"So, what, like friends?" I asked sadly.

"Tsk, hell no." He said as his rough, calloused hand touch my cheek. He slowly brought my face to his.

"Just kiss her already." The small man, also known as the Mayor said.

And so he did. It was just a small, but meaningful kiss. It made me feel like I was on cloud nine.

"Oh, no you don't." Brick said as I was, in fact, floating back up.

He leaned in to kiss me once more, smiling into it.

Brick had been driving for sometime now and he had not let go of my hand since we had left the Mayor's office building.

"So where are we going now?" I asked, not really caring just wanting to hear his voice.

"A place." Was all he said, his hair was getting messier underneath his backwards snapback.

The windows were down on his truck and soon I could smell the salt of the ocean.

"Are we going to the beach, now?" I asked excitedly.

"Almost." He squeezed my hand as if to tell me more.

"How is it almost? I see the beach right there!" I stuck my right arm out the window pointing in the way of the beach, which was just outside my window.

"You'll see, we're almost there." He sighed.

"What? What's the matter?" I asked, now it was my time to worry.

"I should prepare you for what's about to happen." He said slowly.

"Okay." I said knowing that if I asked more questions his explanation could take longer.

"Have you heard of a man that goes by the name Mr. Jojo?" He asked tentatively.

"Sure, I mean who hasn't? He owns the largest record label of all times." I was confused as to where this was going.

"This is harder than I thought." He whispered to himself.

"What's harder than floating upside down in mid-air screaming at the world that I'm in love with you." I countered.

"You're right." He squeezed my hand for reassurance.

"Of course I'm right, I'm always right." I said and we both had a small laugh.

He smiled as he pulled into a house with an entrance gate.

"Brick, are you sure we're suppose to be here? I pretty sure this is private property." I said slightly scared.

"It's alright. I kind of know the people who live here." He said nonchalantly.

"How do you know them?"

"They're sorta my parents?" He said it more as a question.

"Okay, so how does that bring Mr. Jojo into play?" I asked and he opened his mouth when a voice over the intercom system spoke.

"Mr. Brick, it's wonderful to see you back at the Jojo Mansion!" A lady said enthusiastically as the gates opened.

"Thanks, Gina." He said as he pulled up the long driveway, not looking at my confused expression.

"Jojo Mansion? You're parents live here? Holy shit, you're dad is Mr. Jojo!" I screamed.

"Yeah." He said sheepishly, letting go of my hand to rub the back of his neck.

"Why didn't you just tell me?" I slapped his arm lightly as he parked his truck behind the house.

"I thought you would treat me different, I guess." He said sitting with his hands in his lap.

"I don't think that I would treat you any different than the sarcastic asshole you are." I said looking at him seriously.

His head shot up to look at me, "You think I'm a sarcastic asshole?" He questioned.

"Of course," I said with a nod of my head, "I think everyone is a sarcastic asshole on the inside, some just decide to show it more than others, like Buttercup and Butch for example."

A smile spread across his face, and soon mine as well. He got out of the truck and before I could even move he ran to my door to open it for me.

"You do know that I can get my own door, right?" I asked.

"Yeah, but it makes me feel less like a sarcastic asshole to you." He said with a smirk, and that was how my Brick came back to me.

He took my hand and led me inside the mansion. It looked beautiful. Everything was in white, minus the furniture. The tables were wooden, not the cheap stuff in my house, the couches were all soft and black, a weird choice in my opinion for a house that had all the windows open. The wind blew and all the white curtains would blow like crazy, like in the newer version of The Great Gatsby.

"Wow, this house is," I couldn't even think of a word.

"Awful, horrid, dehumanizing." He suggested.

"Um, I was going to say amazing, but I guess your's works too." I said as I noticed how none of the couches have been sat on, the only thing the tables had on them were decorative vases filled with flowers. There were no pictures of the boys anywhere, no pictures of the family as a whole. There wasn't even a tv in the house, "Do people actually live here?" I asked suspiciously.

"Yeah," he said giving me a questioning look.

"I mean, like, I haven't seen anyone here. I have only heard Gina's voice. What if that was actually a recording? What if you came here to kill me?" I asked with a playful look on my face.

He gave me his most famous smirk as he said, "I don't think I could ever do that to you." He gave me a quick kiss on my forehead and wrapped his arms around my waist.

I repeated his actions by wrapping my own arms around his torso. I was enjoying just standing there when someone cleared their throat. I was startled and let my arms return in front of me, Brick's arms only tighten around me, if possible, pulling me even closer to him.

"Brickford." A rough voice spoke.

"Father, Mother." I wanted to look at his parents but due to the fact that I was so close to Brick and he obviously had no intention of letting me go anytime soon, so all I could hear was the Brick's steely voice and felt the slight nod of his head to his parents.

"Brick, sweetie, you know how your father feels about public displays of affection in the house." I heard the sweet voice of his mother.

"Yeah, I know. I think I'm hold my girlfriend here a bit longer." He said.

I looked up at him and could see the fire in his eyes toward his parents. I could tell that he didn't like the situation we were in at the moment.

"Brick," I whispered, he looked down at me and his face soften.

"It's okay," He said in my ear, "This happens all the time, just without the girl. Everything I do is wrong in their book." He turned back to his parents, "Is there a reason why you called us here?" He asked, his steely voice was back in action.

"Yes, we would like to inform you that you will be invited to dinner at four thirty sharp." I heard his father speak in the same gravely voice.

Brick didn't respond right away, I looked up at him and he was looking down at me, jaw clenched. I put my hand on his check, "It's okay, Brick."

He sighed closing his eyes, resting his forehead on my own. He spoke as if he was speaking to me, kindly, "We'll be there."

"Great! This is fantastic! Brick, show your girlfriend to the room to get ready. We will see you in an hour and a half. And please, for the love of god, take off that ridiculous hat." I heard his mother clap her hands, and walk briskly away, I assume with his father in tow.

Brick quickly grabbed my hand and we walked just as quick to the room he was instructed to take me to. He opened the door to it once we reached it and pushed me inside.

"Distract me, please." He said his eyes closed once more, but he had let go of my hand. His hands were clenched into fists and he looked like he could punch anything or anyone who got in his way.

"Um, uh, what's your favorite color?" I asked, even though I already knew.

"Is that even a question anymore with us?" He retorted, clearly still pissed.

"What do you like to do in your spare time?" I asked, firing another question off.

"Surf." He answered just as fast.

"Um, you called me your girlfriend to your parents." It was more of a statement than a question, but even I could hear the innocence in my voice.

"I did." He said opening his eyes again, I could see the anger in his eyes had dwindled.

"Why?" I asked, I mean it's not like he asked me to be his girlfriend yet.

"Because that's what you are." He said like it was the simplest thing in the world.

"But, you never," I sighed, "Nevermind, I'm just being stupid."

He gave me a confused look, "What did I never do?"

"It's just that you never actually asked. I know I'm being stupid and it shouldn't matter but that was how my last relationship was, it was very informal and I never actually knew what we were until he told me it was over, that he only hung out with me because of a bet with his friends. It honestly hurt more than it should have because deep down I knew he was never mine to begin with. I, ya know, just forget I said anything. I'm just have a little bit of an overreaction." I rambled on while I paced the room.

"Well, I will have to change that." He standing in front of me to stop my pacing.

"I'm not going to force you to ask me, I mean like you don't have to if you don't want to." I said.

"If it means that much to you, I will. You obviously don't know what I'm planning." He spoke in a husky voice that made me go weak at the knees.

"Thank you. Now I just have to find something to wear. Your mother didn't sound very pleased with what I was wearing." I turned towards the clothes that were in the room.

"She never sounds pleased." He scowled.

"Oh, my god." I was shocked.

"I know, it couldn't hurt to be happy to see me, right?"

"No, you moron. Look at these clothes, there are so many!" I squealed, "I have to snapchat Bubbles."

Brick just laughed as I took a video of the clothes and sent it to Bubbles.

"Go on and pick something so we can get this dinner over with." Brick came up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist.

"Or we could stay here and skip?" I suggested.

"As much as I would love doing that, my parents would hire bounty hunters for us."

"Then I guess we'll just have to be on the run for the rest of our lives." I said, turning around giving him a quick peck on the nose.

He scrunched up his face, "That tickled."

I gasped, "The big bad Brick is ticklish?"

"Yes, now get dressed." He said unamused.

He pushed me into the masses of clothes that were on racks and jewelry on tables. I made it all the way to the back of the room.

"There's so many shoes back here!" I yelled and I could hear Brick laugh the sweetest, loudest laugh I had ever heard from him.

I finally found a white maxi skirt that had a slit in the left side and a red halter crop top. I found Brick again and asked him how I looked.

"So, what do you think?" I twirled around.

"Beautiful, as always."

"Why are you so cheesy?" I questioned.

"I really like cheese." He said with a smirk.

I hit him playfully on his chest, he reacted fast and grabbed my hand and led me out the door for dinner.

"Wait!" I said as I stopped in the middle of the hallway.

"What's wrong?" Brick looked so worried.

"I don't have shoes." I said looking down at my bare feet, wiggling my toes in the process, I then noticed he was taking off his shoes, "What are you doing?"

"Now we both don't have shoes." He gave me a dazzling smile.

I just shook my head as we made our way down for dinner.

"It is nice of you to finally join us." Brick's father said.

He was an average looking man, not a lot of hair on his head, but what little he did have was mostly black. Green eyes, dark, like Butch's. They had the sense of annoyance in them, and I knew that it was directed at Brick and I.

"Oh, hush up, Joe." Brick's mother said slapping his arm lightly.

She was were the boys got their looks from, she was absolutely stunning. Clear skin, no sign of old teenage acne scars, not even a single freckle on her face. Her hair was dark blonde, with platinum highlights, whether they be natural or paid for, they still looked amazing. Her eyes were a bright pale blue, almost like Bubbles, but a shade darker. Her eyes were much softer than her husband's.

"It's so nice to finally meet you. I'm Blossom Dug-Utonium" I said walking over to Brick's mother.

"It is a pleasure as well. I'm Moriah Jojo and this is Joe Jojo. Please take a seat." Moriah smiled.

"Thank you, Mrs. Jojo." I said to her as Brick helped me in my seat. I gave him a weird look but said thanks anyway.

"Oh, sweetheart, you don't have to call me that. You can call me Moriah, call Joe by his name. We try not to go by formalities unless it is business related." She explained.

"Okay." I said shifting in my chair as Brick looked at me.

"You okay?" He whispered in my ears.

"I'm fine." I said, but he gave me a look that said we would talk about this later.

The dinner was so awkward. I had no idea what to say, and when I did say something, I would stutter and mess up my words. Moriah even asked Brick to take his hat off, yet again. The dinner went by rather fast, but it also felt like I would never be able to escape.

"That was horrible." I said to Brick as we made it back to the room we were into before the dinner.

"It wasn't that bad."

"Oh, no. It was. I was stuttering, and I couldn't say a complete sentence to save my life. It was atrocious. I pretty sure that your dad hates me." I said leaning against him, he immediately wrapped his arms around me.

"Bloss, don't take that personal. He hates everyone except Boomer." He kissed the top of my head.

"What about your mom? Does she hate me? She seemed pretty distant towards the end of the meal." I said looking at him.

"That's just her when she has nothing to talk about. She gets closed off and ignores a lot of things. Again, don't take it personal, they both just don't like me." He said.

"Therefore an indirect to not like me." I objected.

He sighed, "Bloss, they like you in a different way than you're use to, but trust me when I say that they do like you. My mother has always wanted to meet a girl that I have fallen for, although I've never felt like this before."

"Felt like what?" I asked completely curious.

"I'll tell you later, now I pretty sure you want to change so we can go to the beach." He said pushing me towards the excess of clothes.

I found a white bikini that was about my size, I made sure that it had enough fabric to it so that if I did happen to get wet, nothing would show. I also found a skirt that was asymmetrical, it was short on one leg while long on the other, it was this nice blue aztec kind of print and I really liked it. I walked back out to find Brick had also changed into a white v-neck shirt and some washed out red cargo shorts with a pair of sandals, still keeping his hat on his head, complaining that when his takes it off it gives him hat hair.

"I still don't have any shoes." I said catching his attention.

"You don't need any shoes where we're going." He said reaching for my hand.

I grabbed his hand and asked, "Really?"

"Yep, just follow me." He said pulling me along and out the door of his parents house.

He opened the door to his truck for me and I climbed in. He ran around the truck and got in the drivers seat. He started up his truck and pulled around the back of the house.

"Why are you pulling around here?" I asked confused by his actions.

"You'll see." He said as he kept on following the small road into a forest.

"How do you have a forest in your backyard?" I asked completely bewildered.

"My father wanted a country feel while my mother wanted a beach backyard. They compromised and went with this." He said as his pulled out of the forest and there was the beach.

"Oh, my god. This is amazing." I said breathlessly.

The view was perfect. It was just at the edge of the beach and sun was making the clouds a soft pink as the sun was beginning to set.

"Just wait until later because the sun will be setting right over there." He said pointing to the horizon along the ocean.

"What do we do until then?" I asked.

"Did you think I came here without a plan?" He asked incredulously.

"Kinda, yeah." I spoke honestly.

"You must have no faith in me, c'mon." He gestured for me to get out of the truck and I did before he could get the chance to get the door for me again.

"So, where are we going?" I asked impatiently.

"Just c'mon." Brick said as he reached for my hand.

His fingers intertwined with mine and he lead me over to where the ocean met with the sand. My feet were sinking into the wet sand and I couldn't help but feel like he was making up for lost time. I mean we were doing the most cliche things, watching the sunset on the beach.

"What are you trying to do here?" I asked him confused by his actions with this afternoon.

"What do you mean?" He asked giving me a confused look.

"Well, I mean, here? Like, what do expect to come from this? From today? Because I don't know where you're going here?"

"Bloss, you're rambling. I didn't get any of that." He expressed his thoughts followed by a small smile and small squeeze of my hand.

"I just don't know where this is going? Why did you want to spend the day with me?" I questioned, finally getting it out.

He didn't answer right away. He his thinking face on and I could tell he debating with himself, "I wanted to show you how wonderful you are to be around. You're an amazing person, Blossom, but you don't realize that sometimes and I just wanted you to know that I know that it's only been half of the summer but I have strong feelings towards you and I," He trailed off.

"You what?" I asked.

"I have to say how much I admire and love you." He said.

"Did you just quote Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice?" I was astonished.

"Shit, I was hoping you wouldn't notice." He said with a sheepish smile and a scratch to the back of his head.

"Wouldn't notice, it's like my favorite book." I admitted.

"So," He said slowly.

"So, let's just say I won't start a fight with you like Elizabeth Bennet." I said, it was my turn to give his hand a squeeze.

"Good." He said leaning down to press his lips gently against my forehead, he then began to lead me down the beach.

Our hands were swinging back and forth between us as we both walked barefoot in the sand. I couldn't help but think that there was something that he wasn't telling me.

"Brick," He turned his head to look at me, "What is the real reason you took me out today? And please don't say it was just to meet your parents."

"It was partly that because Sara was saying that you were at our house here recently. But it was like I said earlier, I just missed talking to you and being near you these past couple weeks. It was like missing my best friend, but more because I hurt you, completely unintentional by the way." He said.

I smiled, "I missed you, too. This also might seem crazy but I forgive for the past couple weeks."

"Really?" He beamed.

"Strangely enough, yeah."

"Good, because there is one more cliche moment that needs to happen and I think it would be awkward if we didn't get that out of the way." He said leading me back the way we had come.

We got back to his truck but he told me to stay near the back of the truck while he went to the cab. He got out several pillows and many more blankets. He put the tailgate down and began piling on the blankets and pillows. Once that was all settled, he went back to the truck and pulled out two jackets.

"I brought one of my jackets in case you got cold. I know it sometimes gets chilly when the sun goes down." He said handing me a hoodie that was three sizes too big for me.

"Thanks." I said sitting it in the back of the truck, not feeling the chill of night quite yet.

He then grabbed my waist and lifted me up on the back of the truck, I couldn't help but notice his rough hands touch my bare mid-drift.

He stood right in front of me, blocking the setting sun, as he said, "You know that view I was telling you about?" I nodded my head.

He moved out of the way and I saw the most beautiful sunset ever. I felt the truck dip, knowing that he was sitting next to me I leaned my head on his shoulder.

"It's beautiful." I said.

"You are." He said.

I looked up and smacked him.

"What was that for," He was quite offended.

"You're cheesy pickup lines, that's what."

"I have to keep you somehow." He said with a smirk.

"Cheesy pickup lines are definitely not it." I said with a small eye roll.

We went on bantering about his cheesy pickup lines until it was dark, "C'mere. I want to show you something."

I followed his lead and went to lay down in the back of the truck, my head on his chest. I looked up at the sky and it was like a whole new world. There were so many stars, the sight was breath taking.

"Oh, my god." I whispered.

"I know." His chest vibrated when he spoke.

Neither of us said a word the rest of time. We didn't need to, it was like our company was enough for the time being. The blankets were laying on top of the both of us, Brick's arm was around my waist. It was like everything was falling into place, everything was going to be okay.

With that thought, and knowing that Brick and I were going to be okay as well, I drifted off to sleep.

The next morning I woke up and I had no idea where I was. Then it all came rushing back to me, I had spent the day with Brick and it had ended with us stargazing in the back of his truck. I smiled as looked up at him. Yesterday definitely made up for those weeks without him, I was just so happy yesterday. My smile got even bigger as I realized that I was happy for the first time in a long time, not just the fake smile happy every now and then, but it was a genuine real happiness.

"Mhmm," I felt Brick's chest vibrate underneath my head.

"Good morning." I said, my pink eyes never leaving his abnormally red ones.

"Now, it is finally a good morning." He said, his voice rough from sleep.

"And why is that?" I inquired.

"Because I got to wake up to a beautiful girl in my arms." He said with a smirk.

I now couldn't look at him. His eyes were just too bright with that mischievous glint in them. I suddenly gasp and sat up, I had an idea.

"Brick, do you think you could take me home?" I asked looking down at him since he was still laying down.

"Why? Is everything okay?" He sat up wrapping his arm around me once more with a worried expression on his face.

"Everything's perfect. I just have to get home. I have an idea," I could tell he was going to ask what it was so I added, "That is a surprise." I kissed his nose softly.

"Alright," He said after thinking about it for a moment, "But at least let's go get some breakfast, okay?"

"Sure, I could go for some burnt toast." I said, laughing slightly at my jab at his cooking.

"It was one time, get over it and besides you weren't even there!" He said bring on his sassy side.

I was super excited for tonight's performance, I couldn't contain it. Bubbles had to give me some tea her grandma use to make for her to help her calm down when she was little.

I was wearing a gold, strapless, crop top with a black high-to-low skirt with a pair of gold wedges that Bubbles found in her closet. Thank god that we wore the same size of shoes. She left my hair straight and she also told me she had a plan of her own forming. She said that since I didn't tell Brick about my idea, she wasn't going to me about hers.

"Blossom," Buttercup came over to me, "Two minutes." She said and walked with me.

"I have never had the chance to thank you, BC, so, thank you." I said giving her a big hug, she rarely accepted hugs, but today was different.

"For what," Confusion written on her face.

"For the past couple weeks. Thanks for being there for me." I said as I took my spot.

"You're welcome, and if it ever happens again. Just let me talk to him." She said with a wink as she walked away.

As I waited for the spotlight to shine on me, I heard a recording of my voice was saying, "We all deal with problems differently. Some hide away, some talk to others. I was type to hide away, until recently when I met someone who gave me the courage to speak out about things, he's my flashlight."

Then the spotlight shone down on me and I began to sing acapella, "When tomorrow comes, I'll be on my own. Feeling frightened of the things that I don't know. When tomorrow comes, tomorrow comes, tomorrow comes. And though the road is long, I look up to the sky, and in the dark I found, I lost hope that I won't fly. And I sing along, I sing along, and I sing along.

"I got all I need when I got you and I. I look around me, and see a sweet life. I'm stuck in the dark but you're my flashlight. You're getting me, getting me through the night. Can't stop my heart when you shinin' in my eyes. Can't lie, it's a sweet life, I'm stuck in the dark but you're my flashlight. You're getting me, getting me through the night. 'Cause you're my flashlight. You're my flashlight. You're my flashlight."

Then Bubbles and Aurora came in with backup vocals and instruments along with Buttercup, "I see the shadows long beneath the mountain top. I'm not afraid when the rain won't stop. 'Cause you light the way. You light the way, you light the way." Next thing I know tiny flashlights come out of nowhere.

"I got all I need when I got you and I. I look around me, and see a sweet life. I'm stuck in the dark but you're my flashlight. You're getting me, getting me through the night. Can't stop my heart when you shinin' in my eyes. I can't lie, it's a sweet life. I'm stuck in the dark but you're my flashlight. You're getting me, getting me through the night."

In the background, Bubbles and Aurora were singing as well, "Light light light you're my flashlight, light, light. Light light you're my flashlight. Light light light light light, oh. Light light light you're my flashlight, light, light. You're my flash, oh."

You're my flashlight. You're getting me, getting me through the night. 'Cause you're my flashlight, 'cause you're my flashlight. You're my flashlight. You're my flashlight. Light light, you're my flashlight. Light light ye-yeah. You're my flashlight." I looked right at Brick, or in his general direction of where he was sitting because of the spotlight made it hard to see much.

I ended the song with Bubbles and Aurora on either side of me while Buttercup came running to Bubbles' side. We gave each other a group hug and walked off the stage.

"So, who was that about?" Bubbles asked when we got off stage.

"Oh, you know, just some pretty bright people in my life." I said with a knowing smile.

I got another group hug as we laughed while we waited for the host to call everyone back out, which didn't take long. They all squeezed my hand in good luck as I walked back out.

"Tonight we had some great performances by all, but some could not take the pressure. Those performers will not be there for the finals on the Fourth of July." He then called the performers to the front of the stage and said they would be going home. It was down to me and two other acts, one singer and one dancer.

"As for the three left on stage," He paused, obviously for dramatic affect, "You all will be going on to the finals!"

I breathed a sigh of relief as I was soon bombarded with hugs and congratulations from the other two and my friends who had immediately rushed out the the stage. I couldn't even think properly because of all the commotion that was going on. That was until I saw a familiar red hat in the swarm of people.

"Brick!" I yelled. His eyes snapped to mine and the biggest smile I had ever seen from him appeared on his face as he made his way over to me.

"Thank, god. I thought I was never going to find you." He admitted wrapping me up into yet another hug.

"Well, it was all thanks to your hat." I said pulling it off his head a sitting it on my own, backwards just like how he had it.

"I think I like it better on you than on me." He said playing with the ends of my hair.

"Well, I think I might keep it then." I said, my smile growing.

"Then it's yours." He said kissing me lightly on the lips.

"What? No, I can't. It's your favorite." I objected.

"And you're my favorite person, so why not?" He said with a shrug of his shoulders.

"Why are you so cheesy?" I asked.

"I don't know, I guess I really like cheese." He said with a chuckle, repeating what he had told me only two days before.

"Hey, B! We're going to go grab something to eat, you coming?" Bubbles asked.

"Sure," I said pulling Brick along.

"You should go home and sleep, plan your next show." Brick said pulling me back to him.

"I will, after I get something to eat. I'm starving." I complained.

"You're always hungry," He said while smiling.

As we were walking to the car, I got the need to ask, "Brick, how tall are you?"

"Six foot two inches, why?" He questioned, confused.

"I was just wondering. You know because I'm much taller with these heels on." I smiled at my joke.

"That you are."
