The Chakra Mishap
Chapter 10
Naruto's Sacrifice
It had been three days since Naruto told all of his friends that he was pregnant with Sasuke's baby. Right now, he was on a mission to clean the lake. Unfortunately, the lake was full of the trash that the villagers hadn't thrown away properly.
"Man, why can't people just throw away their trash?" Naruto whined. He was just about to pick up a soda can when he heard a branch break behind him. He went to his kunai pouch immediately, and throwing a kunai at the direction of the suspicious noise.
"Hey, watch it!" Sasuke jumped out of the way of the oncoming projectile. "You almost hit me, Naruto!"
"Sasuke? Ah, I'm sorry. I thought that… maybe… you were-" Naruto struggled to get the sentence out.
"Itachi," Sasuke interrupted dryly. "I know."
Naruto turned away and muttered, "I'm sorry, I'm just paranoid… I can't help it…" He started to rub his stomach to calm himself down.
"Naruto, I don't blame you for being paranoid. I know you're just looking out for your lives – you have to keep the baby and yourself safe." Sasuke grabbed Naruto's shoulders and turned him around so that he could kiss the blonde's forehead. When he tilted his head back, he was surprised when Naruto reached up and pulled him back down for a deep kiss, but didn't mind it at all as he kissed Naruto back with more passion. When they went up for air, they looked at each other's eyes to see the love that they both had for the other.
"I… I should get back to cleaning the lake," Naruto said as he let go of Sasuke and turned to continue his duty.
"Let me help you, babe," Sasuke said casually.
"Babe?" Naruto asked in outrage. "I'm not a woman!"
Sasuke chuckled. "Says the pregnant one."
"That's different!" Naruto said indignantly. "Just because I happen to have a baby inside of me doesn't mean that I'm automatically a woman!"
Sasuke sighed. "I know Naruto, but I like to call you babe… it fits."
Frowning, Naruto crossed his arms. "Fine! Then I get to call you… uh… ha! I get to call you Sweetie Kins!"
Sasuke stared at Naruto blankly, blinking a few times to clear his eyes. "Sweetie Kins?" He asked in disbelief.
"If you want to call me babe, I get to call you my Sweetie Kins." Sasuke stared at Naruto blankly, blinking a few times to clear his eyes.
"No."
"See?" Naruto asked, feeling victorious. "Now you know why I don't want to be called ba- ugh…" Naruto was interrupted by a sudden cramp in his stomach, and he reached down to hold it.
"Naruto! What's wrong?" Sasuke asked in concern as Naruto began to fall to his knees. He caught the blonde before he could touch the ground.
""Nothing… it's just a cramp. Nothing to be worried about," Naruto explained, standing up.
"Are you sure?" Sasuke asked, eyes still wide with worry.
"Yeah, I'm sure. I read in that book that when the mother gets stressed, it causes cramps."
Sasuke mentally kicked himself and muttered with utter seriousness, "I'm sorry… if I stressed you by calling you babe."
"It's not you – It's all of this stuff happening with Itachi and Orochimaru. I don't think my body can handle the stress anymore, not with the baby…" Naruto started to rub his stomach absently, thinking of his baby.
"Hey, Naruto, don't forget that I'm here to protect you. Everyone's willing to protect you and your baby." Sasuke reassured him.
"I know that… it's just… I'm so scared to lose this baby… she'll be the first family I've ever wanted, ever had."
"I know," Sasuke said after a brief pause. He rubbed Naruto's back to help him calm down.
By now, the sun was beginning to set and the two finished up cleaning the lake.
"Finally, we're done…" Naruto groaned, standing up and stretching.
Sasuke yawned. "Yeah… you ready to go home?"
"Yeah, I'm tired… and hungry…"
Sasuke laughed quietly. "Okay, you head home and I'll send the mission report to the Hokage." Smiling back at Sasuke, Naruto suppressed a yawn of his own.
"Okay, see ya." Naruto started to head home while Sasuke ventured towards the Hokage Tower.
At Naruto's house
"Ah, it's so good to be home~!" Naruto sang while rubbing his stomach. "How about you and me take a nice long bath?"
What Naruto didn't know was that there was someone in his home, waiting, lurking in the shadows.
"Mm, this is nice… don't you think, baby girl? How about a song?" Naruto sat there, thinking of a song while waiting for the tub to fill.
""You are my sunshine," He sang, slightly off key. "My only sunshine. You make me happy, when skies are gray. You'll never know how much I love you, please don't take-" Naruto was interrupted by footsteps echoing through the small apartment. "That must be daddy… he's early."
Naruto stepped out of the tub and dried himself, quickly pulling on clothes. He went towards the sound. Huh… where is he? Naruto thought, looking around. Out of the shadows stepped a figure, and Naruto's heart stopped.
"Hello, Naruto. Long time, no see." Naruto turned slowly to see his perverted Sensei, Jiraiya.
"Gah! Pervy sage! You scared me to death… that's bad for the baby!" He blurted, blue eyes still wide.
Jiraiya frowned, confused. "Baby…? What baby?"
Slowly, Naruto's surprise waned and he realized his mistake. "Well… huh… you see… I'm kinda… pregnant…"
Jiraiya looked at the boy in shock before exclaiming "What?!" He knelt down quickly and lifted Naruto's large shirt. He examined Naruto's seal by placing his hand on the boy's stomach.
"You're not kidding… I feel another chakra…" Jiraiya stood up and made Naruto sit down in one of the chairs in the kitchen. "So… how in the world did this happen?"
"Well… I was on a mission, and a missing ninja took my chakra. To save me, Sasuke gave me half of his."
"Sasuke is the father, I take it."
"Yeah," Naruto said self-consciously.
Jiraiya took a deep breath, taking in all of the information. "Did anything else interesting happen while I was gone?"
"Besides the fact that the Akatsuki are after me? And the fact that Orochimaru wants my baby? Nothing."
"What?!" Jiraiya was outraged. "There's no way I'm going to let him get a hold of my grandchild!" Jiraiya yelled with more determination than when he was writing one of his infamous books. "I'll stay and prote-" He cut himself off when he realized that Naruto was already dozing.
"Huh, poor kid. That brat must take a lot out of him." He hefted Naruto out of the chair and moved him to the bed, tucking him in. "Good night, brat."
At Hokage Tower
Knock knock. The sound reverberated through the room. "Come in." Tsunade said, her eyes still glued to the document she was reading.
"I am here to turn in Naruto's mission report." Sasuke said, placing the scroll down in front of the Hokage's desk.
"Sasuke, where is Naruto? Is everything alright?" Tsunade asked, worried.
"Yeah, everything is fine." Sasuke replied, sighing before he continued. "Although I am a little worried about him. I was helping him clean and we had a little argument... Nothing bad, I was just joking around. He said he had a cramp and it was nothing to worry about."
"But you can't help but worry." Tsunade cut in, finally looking up from her documents.
Sasuke nodded. "Yeah."
"Well…" Tsunade volunteered, "I can come and check on him when I'm done here, if that's alright."
Sasuke nodded again. "Yeah, thanks." He then turned towards the door, saying over his shoulder, "I'd better get going. I said I would go to his place when I was done here." Not staying to hear Tsunade's response, Sasuke left the room, heading straight for Naruto's place.
"Naruto, I a-" Sasuke was cut off by Jiraiya covering his mouth and hushing him.
"Naruto is asleep. Poor lad was tuckered out." Jiraiya explained, releasing the obsidian-haired boy.
Sasuke nodded slowly. "Hn. I see. What are you doing here?"
"I was going to ask Naruto if he wanted to go training with me, but since he is with child-and Orochimaru is after the child-I don't think that is an option." Jiraiya explained, then asked, "So, how is the soon-to-be father doing?"
"I'm taking care of my boyfriend, thanks for asking." Sasuke said matter-of-factly.
"Boyfriend?" Jiraiya repeated, slightly shocked. "Wait a minute, you two are a couple now?"
Sasuke didn't answer. He was already in Naruto's room, getting ready to go to bed with Naruto, not caring that Jiraiya was watching him from the doorway.
Jiraiya could only watch in awe when he saw Sasuke going to sleep with Naruto, wrapping his arms around him as if he were going to protect the blonde while he was asleep.
Those two are meant for each other. Jiraiya thought as he left, heading for the bath house to search for inspiration for his next book.
2 hours later
Naruto began to stir in his sleep , which, in turn, woke Sasuke.
"No… you can't have her…" Naruto muttered, tossing. Sasuke reached over and tried to wake Naruto, but Naruto refused to budge. Sasuke began to shake him when there was a knock on the door.
That must be Tsunade, Sasuke thought, as he went to let her in. It was indeed Tsunade, and she walked through the front door, greeting Sasuke. "Hi, Sasuke, we-" She was interrupted by a scream. The two ran into the bedroom to see that Naruto was still asleep but shaking violently.
"I was trying to wake him up when you showed up," Sasuke explained.
Tsunade approached the bed, trying to wake Naruto up, but nothing was working.
"Sasuke, do you know a way to wake him up or at least calm him down?"
"The last time he had a nightmare, I sang to him," Sasuke said.
"Well, do it!" Tsunade ordered.
Sasuke did what he was told and lifted Naruto into his lap. He placed the blonde's head on his chest and started to sing.
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are gray. You'll never know how much I love you, please don't take my sunshine away." He continued to sing until Naruto's breathing evened and his eyes fluttered open. "It's okay, Naruto, it's just a nightmare. You're safe now."
Naruto took a few shaky breaths before explaining, "It was so scary… Orochimaru killed everyone and took our baby girl… Sasuke, he took her!" Naruto began to cry, and Sasuke pulled him closer.
"It's all right, none of it was real. You see? We're alive and the baby's safe. Can't you still feel her chakra?"
"Yeah, I feel it…"
Tsunade stepped up. "Naruto, Sasuke asked me to check up on you. He said that you had a stomach cramp earlier today. I know it might be nothing, but considering the circumstances, I'd like to check. Is that okay?"
Naruto nodded. "Yeah, it's okay."
Tsunade proceeded with the check up. "While everything seems fine, I'm worried that you're stressing yourself too much. You need to relax, so no missions for the rest of the week, okay?"
"Okay," Naruto answered tiredly.
Tsunade smiled. "Alright. I'm going to go home and get some sleep, and you need to do the same. Don't worry about Orochimaru - I'm going to send Kakashi to watch over the place." Tsunade nodded to Sasuke and left. Sasuke watched her go before turning to Naruto.
"You feeling better, Naruto?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. You know I was singing that song to the baby today… while I took a bath."
"You did?" Sasuke asked, surprised.
"Yeah, I thought that since you sing it to me when I have nightmares, I'll start singing it to the baby. I read in that book that if you sing the same song to a baby, it'll know it when it's born. And it'll calm down when it's upset."
"Should I start singing to her, too?" Sasuke asked, hugging Naruto close.
"That would be nice," Naruto responded, snuggling closer to Sasuke's chest in order to hear his heartbeat. "I love the sound of your heartbeat," Naruto murmured offhandedly.
"You do?" Sasuke asked.
"Yeah… I wonder if this is what the baby hears…"
"What do you mean?"
"While the baby is inside of the mother," Naruto explained, "It usually hears its mother's heartbeat."
Sasuke gave a light laugh. "I guess… but wouldn't it sound more like ra-men ra-men? I mean, you seem to love ramen so much…"
Naruto huffed indignantly. "Hey, I haven't had ramen in 3 weeks, just to let you know."
"I know, and that is a miracle in itself," Sasuke laughed.
"Will the baby love tomatoes more than ramen?" Naruto asked jokingly.
"Then it's definitely an Uchiha."
"Yeah, but I don't mind at all." They sat in silence for a few heartbeats, when Sasuke finally spoke.
"We should go back to sleep, Naruto." Sasuke led Naruto down to the bed and placed him on his own chest so that Naruto could listen to his heartbeat until he fell asleep.
The Next Day
In her office, Tsunade sighed, leaning back. "Ah, it's a very nice day today, don't you think, Shizune?"
"Yes, very nice." Shizune agreed. "It's also a nice day to do paperwork." She added while placing a tray of tea on the desk.
"Nice way to ruin the moment, too," Tsunade grumbled. She reached towards the cup of tea, her hand pausing when it cracked. Her hand shook for a second and she steadied it, looking up. "I have a feeling that a storm's coming to ruin it, too."
Naruto's house
"Naruto, it's time to get up." Sasuke said, shaking the blonde-haired boy slightly.
"I don't want to, Sasuke." Naruto whined, rolling away from said person.
Sasuke sighed exasperatedly. "I have to get up, Naruto. I have a mission today."
This got the blonde's attention. He sat up and looked Sasuke in the eyes. "What is it?"
"I have to watch over some princess." Sasuke replied, rolling his eyes.
"Alright, I have to pee anyway." Naruto then got up to go to the bathroom while Sasuke went to the closet to change clothes.
He decided to start bringing extra clothes, considering he spent almost every day at Naruto's, taking care of him. Sometimes, they would stay at his place, but he prefers here because his house brings back memories of the massacre.
Sasuke was changing into his pants when he heard a crashing sound come from the bathroom. Worried, he began to run, but he slipped and fell flat on his face. Naruto walked out and saw Sasuke's butt in the air.
"Hahahaha!" Naruto started to laugh.
Sasuke then straightened himself up, trying to keep a straight face. "Naruto, what happened? What was that crashing sound?"
"Hmm? Oh, I dropped my glass. I was going to get the broom and dust pan when I saw your butt in the air." Naruto replied, laughing a little again.
Sasuke frowned slightly, shaking his head. "Well, you're okay, right? You didn't cut yourself?" Sasuke said, checking for any kind of injury. Luckily, he found none.
Naruto shook his head. "No, I'm fine. The glass just slipped out of my hand."
Sasuke let out a breath of relief. "Good. So you'll be fine without me, right?"
Nodding, Naruto replied, "Yeah, Sasuke, I'll be fine-I'll be hanging out with Bushy Brow."
"Alright then... Have fun, and remember take it easy today, okay?" The obsidian-haired teen was still worried, but he tried to push his feelings down. Naruto will be fine… He thought to himself. He muttered out a good-bye before he turned and left the home.
He wasn't outside for long before he saw Kakashi, sitting on a nearby roof, reading his pervy book. He waved at him and Kakashi waved back. Sasuke then headed for the Hokage tower, going to meet with the princess he was to watch over while she was in the village.
With Naruto
"Naruto." A voice rang through the blonde's head.
Naruto raised his voice in question. "Hmm? What is it, Nine Tails?"
"There is something in the air. Watch yourself." The fox responded warily.
"What do you mean?"
"Something is not right-I can sense it. Go to the friend you call Bushy Brow. Don't be alone." The Fox demanded.
"Okay... but I think you are being paranoid." Naruto replied.
"I am not." The fox said seriously.
Naruto scoffed. "Whatever."
Naruto then left his home, thinking about what the Nine Tails told him. He went to Lee's as fast as he could. When he finally reached Lee's place, he saw a boy-Lee-outside doing one armed push-ups.
"Hey, Lee."
"Hi Naruto, how are you and the baby doing?" Lee asked politely in the midst of a push-up.
"We're both fine."
"What brings you here, then?" Lee asked, stretching and standing up.
"Tsunade is worried that I'm stressing myself out too much, so she told me to take a week off to relax."
"What do you want to do today, then? I would say train… but that's too dangerous for the baby, I guess…"
"Yeah… I miss training…"
"How about we go out for ramen? You love ramen and we could have an eating contest!"
"No… I can't do that. The baby hates it when I eat ramen for some reason…"Naruto explained, looking sad.
"Wow… you without ramen…" Lee laughed. "I can't imagine that!"
Naruto smiled. "Will you believe it if I said I haven't eaten ramen for three weeks now?"
Lee laughed and shook his head. "How about a walk around the village? I hear exercise is good for babies."
"Let's do that, then."
"Alright then! Let's go to Gai-sensei and he can join us!"
The two started to walk towards Gai's place with smiles on their faces.
At the Hokage Tower
"Alright, Sasuke, there was a change of plans," Tsunade said, folding her hands on her desk.
"So, what's my mission then?" Sasuke asked, standing uncomfortably in her office.
"You'll-" There was a crash and then silence, and Tsunade spun to face the wall wide windows behind her. There was a snake, hissing and looming above town, ready to destroy the west side of the village. Orochimaru was attacking.
Tsunade's hazel eyes widened and she turned to Sasuke. "Sasuke! Find Naruto! Orochimaru must be here for the baby - Hurry!" She ordered, and Sasuke was out of there in a flash, prepared to look for Naruto.
With Naruto
"Hey, Gai-sensei." Lee shouted.
"Well, if it isn't Lee and Naruto. How are you and the little one doing?" The black-haired man asked, smiling.
"We're fine." Naruto started, "Me and Lee-"However, he was cut off when an explosion sounded.
Kaboom!
There was a big gust of wind and a lot a debris heading their way.
"Naruto, look out!" Gai shouted when he saw a large tree branch heading straight for Naruto. Gai jumped in front of Naruto and broke the branch into pieces with his fist.
"Naruto, are you ok?" Lee asked but got no answer. He then followed Naruto's gaze and saw a giant purple snake attacking the town.
"It's... it's Orochimaru! He's after my baby!" Naruto said, holding himself, his voice shaking with terror.
"Lee. Take Naruto to the Hokage-she will protect him. Now go." Gai ordered his student, nodding towards the panicking blonde.
"I'm on it, Gai-sensei." Lee said, nodding. However, before he could leave, Jiraiya showed up.
"There is no need for that-I will take Naruto." Jiraiya said, walking up to Naruto. "Get on my back. I'll carry you there." He knelt so the boy could do so.
"I guess you were right, Fox." Naruto muttered under his breath.
"Yeah, but I wish I wasn't."
It didn't take long to reach the tower. When they walked into the Hokage's office, they saw her frantically giving orders to the nearest Ninja. Everyone in the room was dismissed to stop the disaster.
"Oh, Naruto, thank god you're okay!" Tsunade ran over to Naruto and hugged him gratefully.
"Yeah, I'm fine - nothing happened. Bushier-Brow Sensei protected me from the blast."
"Alright, we need to get you somewhere safe." No one argued and the trio started to head out… but there was another crashing sound, this one closer than the last. When they got back outside, Orochimaru himself was waiting for them.
"There you are, Nine Tailed brat." He hissed. "Now come with us… or we will hurt your friend Sasuke…" The snake man turned towards Kabuto, who had Sasuke in a close chokehold.
"Sasuke!" Naruto shouted. "You bastard - let him go!"
"No can do, my dear boy. If you want him safe, you have to come with us."
"Don't do it, Naruto!" Sasuke pleaded. "Think about the baby - don't worry about me!"
"I guess we need to be more persuasive…" Kabuto drove a Kunai into Sasuke's chest, barely missing fatal areas.
"Gah!" Sasuke shouted out in pain.
"Sasuke you stupid bastard!" Naruto screamed, tears welling in his eyes, guilt overwhelming him.
"What's it going to be? This boy and the village will perish if you choose to fight."
Naruto choked out the words, "I'll go with you, just please stop!"
"Naruto no!" Jiraiya and Tsunade yelled in unison.
"I'm going," Naruto said firmly. "I can't stand to see everyone getting hurt because of me." Naruto walked towards Orochimaru, who motioned for Kabuto to release Sasuke.
Sasuke looked at Naruto with pained eyes. Naruto shook his head and mouthed, "I'm sorry."
Orochimaru prepared a Jutsu and Kabuto stood by, and Sasuke screamed "Naruto!" just as the three disappeared.
Within ten minutes of the kidnapping, everyone knew of the sacrifice Naruto made to save the village.
"I can't believe Naruto is gone… what about the baby…? What will happen to the baby?" Sakura asked through her tears.
"Orochimaru plans on using the baby as his next body - he will have the power of the Nine Tails and the Sharingan… he would be unstoppable."
"But why kidnap Naruto now? Why not later?" Ino asked.
"I don't know."
"If he does plan on using the baby as his new body, then we still have time to save Naruto." Sasuke said with determination.
"He's right," Tsunade sighed. "I'm going to send out a search party to find Orochimaru's hideout."
"Don't worry Naruto," Sasuke silently promised himself, "we're going to save you and our baby."
