A/N: Hi readers an apology is in order because of this chapter. It's short but hopefully, this is the last one because I have just done my English resit this week and had little sleep and was doing a lot of revision but now that's out of the way I get more time to write. So fingers crossed on the results coming back with a pass this time. But I digress enjoy. (what you can of this chapter)
Chapter 10: A matter of trust
Sam's (Excalibur's) POV
I looked around Beacon for a place to sit and meditate in peace. I eventually settled for the shade of a tree near Beacon Cliff the view was absolutely breathtaking it was like the Silver Grove only bigger and more luscious. If this forest was compared to the old forests of Earth it would probably rival them in terms of looks.
I spent the best part of 2 hours in the same position recollecting on recent events and especially how I lost all sense of reason and beat down I gave to Cardin and his goons, even if they deserved it, I was pulled from my thoughts when I heard footsteps approaching from behind.
The person behind me spoke up "You know most teachers would severely punish you for assaulting students, not to mention skipping out on classes." The voice belonged to none other than Ozpin. Non the less I sighed mostly because of the anger bubbling up at the thought of those racist pricks.
"Yes but the way you phrase it, you don't seem to keen on following up on what you're saying. I'm also guessing that you were told why I attacked him and his group?" an audible sigh escaped Ozpin's lips before he replied, "Yes I was told why but that doesn't explain why you aren't going to class."
"Look Ozpin I'm a soldier, always have been always will be, and as soldiers, you learn that all are equal extra appendages or not, if people don't learn this they become arrogant, and the arrogant are usually overconfident and the overconfident die, when I see things like that it angers me, and I don't calm down easily so I usually have a relaxant like you saw this morning or I meditate for a few hours"
"Oh, well why don't you take some more relaxants? Surely that's a better option than skipping your afternoon classes."
"I would Ozpin however Tory only carries a small on her, the rest is in her landing craft, alongside an assortment of prosthetic limbs. The Landing craft, however, is damaged and adrift in space and we don't have a facility to store the craft for repairs."
"If you needed a hanger why didn't you ask me during our talk in my office? Surely you would have thought it relevant to mention?"
"Oh yeah I thought of it but I also know of greed and temptation and imagine what would happen if I asked you for a hanger to store spacecraft and then someone discovers it what would happen, bearing in mind what people will do for an organic machine that they don't understand, not to mention the weapons or the AI's onboard!" I ended up throwing up my arms in exasperation whilst facing Ozpin because at some point I had gotten up and turned around.
Ozpin was silent obviously juggling around a few ideas. He eventually spoke up with an offer "I will let you use a hanger to store your craft and you alone will know the codes to enter. In exchange, I want to know what this AI is capable of and if it's safe to keep on the grounds"
"I don't see why I should trust this, but I suppose it's better than constantly skipping classes so I'm going to stick my leg out and trust you. It would be in your best interest to uphold this deal."
"I will if you will but I will have a large hanger repurposed and I will message you when it's done. For now, follow me there is someone who wants to talk to you."
We began our walk only to hear the chatter of students and I realised that the last class must have finished for today, that was not the problem though, the problem was the students that would be staring at me.
We made it to Ozpin's office, I received nothing but glares the entire way to his office but that didn't bother me much once we were in the lift and on our way up the atmosphere felt a little less tense but there was still some tension.
The lift reached the top floor and the doors parted allowing me and Ozpin to exit. Inside Ozpin's office were 4 students, one of them was the girl we saved earlier the other three were the ones that entered and stayed next to Ozpin and Glynda.
After a moment the girl wearing a beret and shades walks forwards and speaks first "Why?" I must have looked confused because she decided to elaborate "Why did you defend Velvet?" it was at that point I realised that she was talking about so I decided to explain why "I swore to protect humanity that's why. I don't see why an extra appendage or two should dictate the difference between being human or not."
I watched as she froze up and lent over to Ozpin and said "I think I accidentally broke her. What do I do?" I watched as Ozpin developed a slight smirk then I was distracted by movement behind me so I turn around to see the beret-wearing girl holding out her hand saying "Names Coco, Coco Adel leader of team CFVY, behind me are my teammates Fox Alistair, Velvet Scarlatina and Yatsuhashi Daichi." I shook her hand and responded with "Names Sam, Sam Sangria unofficial leader of team REGT."
A/N: Yup short. Another thing I forgot to mention was that I messed up my left index finger so bad I could probably pull my fingernail off. How this happened I put to much force on a hacksaw so when it cut through the metal I was working on I drove my finger into the metal. I am so stupid but oh well at least it's only a slight impediment on writing. I'm dragging on well I guess see you next chapter.
The Outcast is out.
