I'm terribly sorry for not bringing chapters in sooner, I've been busy with a code geass fanfic which I hope to release all at once, and with an anime review channel on Youtube. To make up for this, this chapter is much longer than the others, most likely longer than the other chapters combined. Anyway, read, review, and enjoy.
This chapter has been edited. Please, read, review and enjoy.
"About twenty years ago, some miners found me, protruding from the scub. Like most humans, they were curious, as well as afraid, of my inexplicable appearance in the mine, as well as my bizarre eye color. Eventually the army heard about me and came to the town of the miners who found me." Yew paused, and played a bit with his hair, as if pondering whether telling Angela was a good idea.
"The army asked their questions and when it was all done, they took me, and warned the people of the town not to resist. They were also instructed not to talk about anything relating to me ever again, or the town would be burnt down, and no one would be left alive."
"I was taken to a lab in Warsaw, where some tests were done regarding my blood, and other parts of my body. However the were still remnants of a war at the Warsaw Laboratory, and we took the last evacuation ship out. A few families had been left behind so the research team in charge of me could go. I remember seeing a soldier trying desperately to get them back on the ship, but it was too late, the ship had taken off, the soldier was crying in anger, saying," I promised them I would get them out of here!". I can still see the face of the wife, and of the crying husband."
"I was taken to a new lab, in the mountains near Johansson."
"Oh, I remember that lab, my father worked there . The name was,... I can't remember what the name was, funny." Angela said.
"Really, he worked there? Maybe he was one if the ones who performed tests on me. What is his name?"
"His name was Jeckel Johansson, he died about ten years ago, actually." Angela started to tear up a bit, as if recalling a happy memory of her and her father.
"Is losing someone like a father sad?"
"Yes Yew, losing your father is sad." Angela said as she wiped the tears away. "Did you ever see my father at the laboratory?"
"I knew a Dr. Johansson, but I am not too sure, it was him. But, he does have some resemblance with you. He had black hair and was rather tall like you, but unlike you, he was rather scrawny, and he was very quirky. "
"That's him!" Angela exclaimed with joy. "Oh, sorry, please continue."
"Very well. At the laboratory the tests continued, however, it was was a lot less frightening than at the Warsaw Laboratory, because everyone was so nice, especially Dr. Johansson, he would always try to make me show some emotion. A few years later, Eureka was found along with the Nirvash, and then there was this debate whether I should be trained to pilot an LFO."
The Gekko rumbled as enemy fire showered upon it. Yew's bed shook as the medical bay moaned. Mischa had dropped something that fell near the curtains by Yew.
"I got really good at driving the newly developed KLF models, and was okay with some other models like the Terminus, but I was unable to pilot the Nirvash. Dr. Johansson took me to the Tressor Laboratory to test pilot the Nirvash. It wouldn't respond to me, only Eureka, which made the scientists back at the mountain lab disappointed with me. Had I been able to pilot the Nirvash, the lab would have gotten some necessary funds. Dr. Johansson told me that it wasn't my fault, but after that particular test, I felt a bit of jealousy towards Eureka. Even now I still feel a bit jealous.
"When we got back most of the other scientists gave me the "cold shoulder", as humans say. Only Dr. Johansson and a few others were kind to me from then on. But I didn't care, because Nirvana would be my friend, my companion. It started when I first heard her voice during one of my KLF test. She said," Hello Yew, how are you?", to which I responded, "I'm fine, but who are you?".
"From then on I didn't care if everyone else would ignore me, I had a friend. My KLF has always been there. However years later Adroc Thurston died, and since research into me had already gone far enough for the the government's sake, they went and canceled funding to anything involving me the lab couldn't keep me anymore, but Dr. Johansson took me in."
"Really? My father had left my family to pursue his work as a scientist. I guess he replaced me with you," Angela said sadly."I don't think the he replaced me for you, actually I think he took me to meet you before he took me in."
"Really, I don't remember that at all."
"It was right before he died. I gad been wanting to understand humans, so he took me to your garage, and introduced you to me. I remember having a fun time with you , and you had said something about rivaling the Thurstons. For me, it had been an entertaining day, something that I don't usually have. Later that day, he asked me, what is that I wanted in this world. I said, to be accepted, like both you and your father had accepted me. He told me something that a friend told him, "Don't beg for things, earn them."
"I can remember, but only a little. Also, could you never bring what I said about the Thurstons in front of Renton or his family, it's rather embarrassing to say that now." Angela blushed as she finished her gave a puzzled look, but then shrugged it off.
"However, Dr. Johansson soon also died, like his friend Adroc, absorbed into the light. The accident obviously didn't go unnoticed, and I was held responsible. Both me and Nirvana were sent back to the Warsaw Laboratory. The head of the laboratory told me they had no more use for me at the moment, as they had enough physical data to make something called a clone. I was put into some kind of box like structure, and put to sleep. And Nirvana was put beside me."
"When I woke up, it didn't feel like I had slept so long. When I was freed from the box by a girl who looked similar to me, with violet eyes, black hair, and a similar build. She was always smiling, and that is something I will never forget. Even though I felt tremors and I saw the falling lights from the skies, she was always smiling. She put her face against mine, and said, "It's our last day, we should enjoy ourselves. She then kissed me, and backed away slowly, still smiling. I didn't understand what she was doing. But then I saw it. Other girls like her, with the same eyes, and the same smiles, and holding memory diaries. I then knew that what you now call the Limit of Questions had come."
"I got into Nirvana, and removed anything I could to make space so that I could take as many of the girls with me, so they wouldn't die. I urged them to come, but they wouldn't. I tried taking them by force. I found the container used to bring Nirvana here, and put as many of the girls in there, and the girl who kissed me, I pushed her into the cockpit, as I felt she should be by my side. It was only in the cockpit that I saw how much I had aged.
"I got out of there with the Lift-board, but then I saw more girls, and some of the laboratory members get crushed by a falling light from the distance. I tried evading the many falling lights, but even with my piloting skill, I couldn't keep them safe. The Lift-board got hit, and I lost balance. We all fell quite a distance, but the girl and I were somewhat protected in the KLF. We survived the fall, but the others weren't so lucky. I looked inside, and it was horrifying."
Tears were falling furiously from Yew's eyes, and his fists balled up.
"It was pointless trying to save them at all, they still died!" Yew cried, smashing his fist into his legs, to which he felt more pain from his injuries.
"The girl who survived with me, was still smiling, and she congratulated me, for being so selfless. I felt two things that day I never felt before; fright and despair."
"The girl and I left Warsaw, not speaking a single word. The girl tried comforting me, hoping to cheer me up. She told me her given name, it was Ana. She told me her age, she was 14. We traveled for about half a year and things got better, we had bonded quite well. Actually I believed I had great affection for her. And it seems she also had some affection for me as well, as she would do things that humans usually classify as affectionate. But one day we got to a city, and as we we're both starving, she went to get us something to eat, she said she would be back soon. But I waited for days, and she never returned. I went to look for her, but only after a few hours, I collapsed due to starvation, and passed out."
"While I was unconscious, I had nightmares about Warsaw, and about Ana. In the nightmare she asked me why did I try to save her and the others. I kept seeing their faces, smiling and asking me why I didn't save them. I told her I didn't know. I didn't...know."He stopped, crying and choking on his words. Angela hugged him, crying as well saying," it's alright, you don't have to tell about it anymore." He kept crying in her arms, like a and Eureka had walked in to check on Yew, but as soon as they saw his state, and Angela comforting him, they left the two, understanding what they were going through.
"When I woke up, Eureka and Renton were standing by me, their faces full of relief and tears. They were happy that I was alive, when I had lost all point of living. They kept me at their home for some time to nurse me to health. They told me that I had collapsed in front of their lift shop after screaming the name Ana over and over in a panicked voice. They told me where I was, and the year and time. I realized that I had been asleep for about ten years. I felt heavy and dead. I asked them if they had seen a girl who looked like me but with black hair. They told me they hadn't seen anyone like that."
"I knew who Eureka was, and she remembered me. I also knew that Eureka was like me, but she also wasn't like me, as she felt... more human like. The time I spent there was helpful, especially after the first day. On that first day I had tried to kill myself. They had brought my KLF to their home, and I took the emergency pistol from it. I was about to do it, but I couldn't , and I through it at they wall."
"They found out, I told them everything, and they helped me through my despair. Two weeks later, I felt like I needed to go. I was going to go look for Ana. Eureka and Renton told me if I ever needed a place to stay, I would be welcome here. I thanked them, and left. Since then I've been going around, looking for Ana. Along the way the NFA found out of my existence, and tried to recruit me into their ranks. I refused because I didn't have time for their little feud. However they tried taking me by force because they knew what I was."
"Over time, they got more aggressive, as they gained more and more support. Nirvana's cockpit was truly ruined when I was out numbered in a battle, I couldn't run far, as my Lift-board was broken long ago. I was pushed to my limits, and I thought about Ana, and to myself I said," I can't die here," and lights started appearing. When it was over, all the enemies were dead. After that battle, they left me alone for a while, and I arrived at your town. And I met you, and for some reason, I didn't want to care for Ana anymore, because I had found you."
Angela stopped holding him after she heard that. She looked at him, with a look of surprise. She knew she had feelings for him, but she was trying to deny it. She felt so sorry for him, and yet, was worried why he didn't care for this Ana girl anymore.
"But saying that, now I feel so conflicted, with my feelings for you, and for Ana," Yew said softly."I care for you Yew, but, I hope you find Ana, she seems very important to you, and you were very important to her," she said, holding back her own tears, as she had fallen for someone who had been then Talho walked in with some bad news.
"Yew, we won't be able to escape, and we called our friend Jurgens for some reinforcements, but they aren't going to be arriving for about twenty minutes, and it doesn't seem we have that long. Holland and the others fighting need help, so we've sent Hilda to back them up, but with the amount of the enemy, it doesn't seem like much. We have an extra Terminus model, and I know your injured, but we need your help to protect everyone on this ship, including your girlfriend Angela. So please, help us."
Yew pulled himself out of his bed, and got up. He started to fall, but Angela helped him up."I'll help you, but you should give that terminus to Renton or Eureka, I'll go in Nirvana," he said stubbornly.
"But it's beyond repair Yew! It won't function," Angela said.
"Nirvana won't fail me, and I won't fail ever again, not like before."
"Renton has been trying to fix it up, and he's gotten it working just a bit. Angela, go help Renton fix it up while Yew gets ready. We'll have less than ten minutes for you guys to finish. I'll help Yew get ready," Talho took him to get changed and ready to pilot Nirvana.
Angela was hurrying to fix up Nirvana."I don't know what I can do I so little time, but for Yew's sake, I'll have to haul ass on this one."
Mischa was still by the curtains, in shock of what she overheard.
