She squirmed against him, finally able to muster up a bit of energy after breaking out of her petrified state. Lucy opened her eyes after shutting them so tight that it hurt to reopen them. The blonde instinctively tried to rub her eyes before remembering, with Erigor looming over her, she couldn't.
"Gray..."
She murmured desperately and Erigor stopped.
The dark mage chuckled darkly.
The hallway was half lit and would be pitch black if not for the light from the hallway before it. Lucy was trying to somehow use the darkness to make a plan and get the heck out of there.
And maybe if she was lucky enough, she'd run into one of her teammates.
To be honest, Lucy was hoping to run into Erza.
Or whoever would make his butt-kicking more painful.
"Not resisting?" He asked and grinned after noticing the blonde spaced out a bit while she analyzed the hall.
This guy is five different kinds of creepy...
The celestial mage shivered and turned away to glance at the end of the hallway where the vending machine was. Though she was still shaking, Lucy was relieved that she called out for Gray for a reason she was still trying to figure out.
It was like instincts, and it definitely helped. Erigor stopped.
"What's the purpose of all this?" The Fairy Tail mage managed to stand up straight and ask before slumping back down to lean against the wall.
He laughed as if she were asking a question that had already been answered.
"To kill."
Well obviously.
"Who?" Letting the curiosity get to her, Lucy pushed the rather slim man off herself.
"Who." She repeated, Erigor showed a half smile seeing that the blonde had regained her composure.
It can't just be the town, this flute could be used for things a thousand times worse.
"Everyone."
She stared at him wide eyed. This guy must have been insane, his whole plan was to kill everyone? Lucy's breath hitched and she considered making a run for it.
"Don't get your panties in a twist, Blondie. I just threw you a lie, you can breathe now."
The blonde opened her mouth to shout out that Erigor was an absolute psychopath, but someone screamed her name and it took her a moment to realize that it was her raven haired teammate.
Knowing Gray was on his way relieved her, making Erigor's 'joke' seem harmless.
Even though she knew pretty well that if that was what he really wanted, with Lullaby, they would have a city of corpses to deal with.
"Gray!" She smiled.
Lucy turned to the dark mage and pulled out her key for Gemini to repeat what they did earlier in the station's main hall. When she noticed that her brown pouch was empty, the celestial wizard remembered that Karacka had disappeared with them.
Now a new worry grew and it overwhelmed the fear of what Erigor would do if they didn't defeat him.
"My keys!" Lucy turned around, flustered and panicked.
Gray came around the corner, half running and half preparing a spell to use against Erigor.
Seeing Lucy on the verge of tears while clutching then letting go of the brown pouch was persuading him to stop his focus on the Eisenwald mage.
Gray knew whatever Lucy was going through was probably just an emotional break down from almost being sexually harassed by the dark mage he was aiming to take out and convinced himself to finish off Erigor before worrying about Lucy.
No matter how guilty he felt for it.
"Ice make: Arrows!"
Erigor stood his ground and Gray thought the battle was over when it seemed like the dark mage was going to take the blow.
Instead, with both hands circling the air as if he was holding an invisible orb, an ominous and dark swirl of wind that looked similar to Wendy's when she used her dragon's roar appeared and shattered Gray's spell so thoroughly there was barely any dust that remained of the arrows.
He was taken aback by Erigor's quick reflexes, it wasn't something he expected from an enemy that he considered weak compared to the powerful opponents he would eventually have to face again.
He thought with the amount of power he had now, Erigor would be knocked out with one shot and he could move onto finding the rest of the gang. Clearly with the dark guild's ace untouched without even a scratch, that wasn't the case.
The scythe wielder didn't move or even flinch at the attack.
Instead he laughed at the ice mage's attempt to defeat him in one shot.
And even if it was just a bit, that left Gray terrified about what the effects of this time travelling mess really did to their enemies.
"Thanks for the warm up, fly. You know, I'd love to stay and whoop your ass in front of your woman, but I have something just a little more important to do. Sorry." He sneered and Gray growled.
"Cocky bastard, is that your pathetic excuse to escape?"
"Would it matter if it was? There are other things you'd need to worry about." He cocked his head to the side, the corrupt and distorted smile he wore casually was almost enough to make Gray cringe.
"Like what?"
Gray didn't need to ask to know that he was after the guild masters who were currently having a meeting in Clover Town.
"Curious, aren't we?"
The ice mage glared at him, finding it almost unbelievable that in seven years this man was actually going to be tolerable and even stranger, quiet.
"Well hey, they were going to die eventually." Erigor shrugged and laughed loudly, making both the Fairy Tail mages shiver as it echoed through the dark hallway.
"You're going to kill the guild masters."
He had to remind himself that Lucy was still behind them, listening to their conversation from the sidelines, he couldn't let himself accidentally reveal too much about what he knew. He tried his best to make what he said sound like a question rather than a statement.
"You're a smart cookie." Erigor cackled.
"Now then. I'd love to stick around and converse with you, but sadly, I can't. I have places to be, so I'm going have to go." He shrugged, feigning disappointment.
Gray didn't remember the Shinigami being so talkative.
Let alone being so god damn fucking annoying.
Gray growled, ready to jump on the dark mage. "Like hell you're going anywhere."
As if to prove that he was leaving whether Gray was going to try to stop him or not, the mage took a glance at Gray and smirked. Erigor picked up his scythe and rested it over his shoulder, the ice mage took it as a signal that he was ready to fight.
As Gray was about to engage, Lucy's warning for him to stop made him notice what he was about to throw himself into.
A wind wall, like the one Erigor previously put around the whole station, this time, just around himself.
Gray never got too close to the wind wall the dark mage put around the station the first time, he had no idea how painful it would be if Lucy hadn't warned him. Just being close to it though, he felt the winds slicing through his skin like small paper cuts.
The closer he got, the harder it was to breathe.
Well shit, can't really ask Virgo to dig a hole under this one.
The ice mage glanced down at the melting flakes of snow that used to be his ice arrows nervously.
Gray knew it was pointless trying to break through the wind wall with both magic and brute force, so he knew he'd just have to wait it out until the dark mage let his guard down so he could attack from the only place that was left unprotected by the wind.
Erigor's head.
Gray stiffened as the dark mage's focus seemed to waver, and he jerked forward hesitantly.
"Ice Make: Death Scythe!" The mage jumped up as he mentally gave himself a small pat on the back for using his enemy's weapon against them.
"Shit!" Erigor cursed, but something about his faint smirk was setting off every danger alarm in Gray's head.
He was prepared to clash with the dark guild's ace when the lights slightly flickered before shutting off completely.
The last thing Gray heard was a snicker coming from the dark mage and he knew he was in trouble.
"Psych!"
It started off with the lights that gave vision of the vending machine and made it's way towards the middle of the hallway before Erigor laughed. "I expected a lot more from you." He taunted and dashed backwards into the shadows.
Gray lunged forward but Lucy's plead to stop made him halt mid jump before tumbling towards the ground.
When he stumbled trying to get back up, Lucy rushed to his side to help him get back on his feet.
"That guy is too much for you to handle. We need to wait for Natsu and Erza." Lucy sighed, while she once again, instinctively reached for the empty little pouch that held her celestial spirit keys.
Just the thought of having to rely on Natsu irked him.
"You're right, but he's not too much for us to handle." He tried to reason.
Lucy was right though. Natsu was the one that originally defeated Erigor, it was logical to think that it should be Natsu who would defeat him again.
"At the moment, I'd be useless in a fight. My keys are - Mavis knows where, probably with that Karacka guy." The celestial mage murmured.
Gray's breath hitched at the mention of Mavis, he gasped and subtly played it off as if he needed to cough.
Regaining his composure, he continued.
"Then what do you suggest, splitting up? Didn't go too well the last time I checked." At first, her eyes widened noticeably before Lucy visibly grimaced at his words. The blonde managed to look past the actual meaning and interpreted it as an indirect way of Gray telling her she couldn't handle this on her own.
Maybe he was right, in the circumstances they were in, if she did go off on her own and ran into Erigor again; it'd be a disaster.
Not wanting to give the ebony haired ice mage a choice, she stormed out in frustration. Not because of what she thought Gray had meant, it was more accurate to say that it was because she thought he was right.
"I'm going to find them, with or without you." The blonde glared down at her boots, irritated with herself.
Lucy turned around and walked towards the intersection that caused her the problem of losing her precious keys, she was going to find her friends whether Gray was coming with her or not.
And if not, even better. She wouldn't have to walk around with a constant reminder that she was absolutely useless and nothing more than a damsel in distress during this mission.
Reaching the intersection, she glanced back. Lucy had to try to convince herself that she wasn't disappointed that Gray hadn't followed her.
Damn it, should've just went right!
The celestial wizard cursed, the one time she chose to use the decision that was opposite of what she really wanted, it turned out like this:
Her keys were with some wall-morphing freak, Erigor had gotten just a tad too close to her, and the cluster of emotions Lucy felt whenever she did something stupid in front of Gray.
She was so done with reverse psychology.
With Lucy well on her way in an attempt to find Karacka, Gray stood in front of the vending machine, dumbfounded about why she reacted the way she did.
While he was trying to analyze what might have set her off, he came down with the conclusion that he had no clue as to why she stormed off.
He wondered if it was something he said.
"What the fuck did I do?" The ice mage swore, finding it necessary after seeing the blonde stomp off.
Regardless, he was going to have to apologize.
Even if Gray had no idea about why she walked off looking like she was ready to punch him, having Lucy mad at him wasn't a very nice feeling.
Lucy felt dizzy at the thought of her silver and gold keys being lost forever, even more so since it was with a dark mage.
She just wanted to collapse and wake up in her bed back in Magnolia, with her keys all on the ring lying safely on her window sill. It was times like these when she would love to walk around holding Plue while listening to his strange language that only Natsu seemed to understand.
Missing their presence just urged her to find the stellar spirits faster, except she was clueless on where to start.
The blonde was once again, completely lost. She didn't now why she hadn't asked Pyxis to help her find her way out of this maze of a train station the first time. Lucy was so close to literally beating herself up for not thinking of it sooner.
You don't remember until it's too late.
The mage groaned quietly.
"For all I know, he could just be following me through the walls." Lucy scowled.
"You're probably right." The blonde tensed but managed to keep herself from squeaking. She turned slowly, feeling a bit embarrassed about getting caught talking to herself like a lunatic.
If it were anyone else -absolutely anyone- maybe she wouldn't feel like digging a hole to sit and bury herself in.
She was sort of glad he came after her but, then again, after remembering why she went off in the first place - she was probably better off on her own, for more reasons than one.
"Hey." Gray greeted, his smile hinting that he was trying to apologize.
"I thought you were gonna look for Erigor." Lucy said softly, trying to recover from having Gray hear her thinking out loud.
"Yeah, I was." The ice mage lied.
Maybe he would have if Lucy didn't run off looking as if she was ready to cry. Drama was the last thing he wanted to deal with, things like why Erigor could probably wipe the floor with his ass now was still bothering him.
Which is why it'll be so much more satisfying when I kick his ass a hundred times over.
And of course, wooing Lucy was a bonus.
"But I couldn't leave you alone." Gray grinned.
The short comment made her turn red and she barely knew why.
Lucy wanted to stay mad at him, just for a little longer, for her own childish reasons to make the ice mage feel guilty. But he was making it so incredibly hard.
It scared Gray when she didn't answer.
It seemed like Lucy was more upset with him then he thought when the blonde turned around and continued to walk away from him.
The ice mage was about to scream out that he was sorry.
Then she laughed.
Thank fucking Mavis.
"Shut up." Lucy smiled while the ice mage made his way up to the beauty and ruffled her hair.
"I knew you couldn't stay mad at me." He teased.
Admittedly, even if he hadn't tried to approach her to make an attempt at making things less troublesome between them, Lucy knew she would have forgiven him anyways. There was no way she wouldn't have forgiven him. He was right.
Lucy really couldn't stay mad at him.
Well hey, I didn't take too long to update this time, right? :D I hope you guys liked this chapter, despite it being horribly rushed, it's been awhile since I've written chapters that weren't in a character's point of view.
Anyways, until the next update! (Which will probably be next month?)
Leave a review? They always make me happy ^^
