I don't own Bones
Ooooooooooooooooooo
Christmas came and wouldn't you know it, I got a call about a body being found in an old Fallout shelter. A construction crew was digging a new foundation for a solarium and broke through to the fallout shelter. When they broke through they went in to have a look and found a skeleton with a gun in his hand and a piece of luggage next to the body.
They freaked out a little bit and then called the cops who then called the FBI because the body was found on federal property. Cullen heard about it and decided to screw up my Christmas by giving me the case. I think it was payback of some kind.
I took a couple of agents and FBI squints over to the fallout shelter and looked the scene over. The squints took pictures and then prepared the body and the luggage to be moved. I mean the body has been in the shelter for years and if it was a crime scene, then it was compromised with the shovel and all of the construction workers going in to stare at the body. Hell, I'm lucky they didn't take souveniers.
We took the body and luggage over to the Jeffersonian. I figured Bones could look it over and let me know what she found out after Christmas. I should have known better.
I had planned on dumping the body at the Lab and then I was going to go Christmas shopping. I still needed to get a present for Parker. Bones told me she'd look at the body; but, she made me take Angela to the Jeffersonian Christmas party while she did the favor for me.
I got bored with the party. I don't know what Star Wars has to do with Christmas; but, you should have seen all of the squints at the party. They had on weird hats and ears and crap like that. I decided to go back to the platform and see what Bones could tell me about the skeleton and to see if I could bug out without Bones having a fit.
She found two tickets to Paris for a PanAm flight. Considering that PanAm has been out of business for years it didn't make the case seem very urgent. Bones found a .22 bullet fragment in the skull which matched the gun that was found in the skeleton's hand.
Poor Hodgins and Zach. Bones saw them walking across the catwalk and made them come down and help her. She wanted Zach to clean the bones and Hodgins to look over the clothing the skeleton was wearing. Man, talk about a Grinch. Well, maybe I was the Grinch. I knew she'd get caught up in the mystery of the skeleton and I knew she'd probably get her squints involved, I just didn't count on Bones making me stick around too.
Angela got pissed that we all weren't at the party and came and got us. She said she wanted to kiss me under the mistletoe. That sounded interesting; but, she didn't do it. The party hadn't improved since I had left and we all eventually left the party again.
Ok, this really makes me angry. Zach decided to cut into the skeleton for some reason and he wore a mask; but, Hodgins didn't. Some alarm went off while they were cutting into the skeleton and the outside doors started to close. Man, I ran to the door to get out; but, I didn't make it. The door sealed with me on the wrong side. Dr. Goodman said the doors closed because of biological contamination. Shit was I mad.
Bones contacted someone and that person said that the contamination was Valley Fever. I had to ask what that was. It wasn't good, I can tell you, especially the part where it can kill you. They quarantined us. Can you believe that? Two days before Christmas? I was stuck at the Lab with a bunch of eggheads who may have killed me. I told Zach and Hodgins that if it turned out to be fatal, that I would shoot them. At least I would have had my revenge against those two idiots before I died. Yeah, I know. I have anger issues.
A couple of guys dressed up like they were in the movie Andromeda Strain, showed up to give us some shots and some oral drugs to take for being exposed to this weird disease. They wouldn't let me leave. Then on top of all of that, these drugs had side effects. I mean weird side effects. They can make you hallucinate. Well, they made me hallucinate. It figures. That drug made me feel like I had been on some big time bender.
I don't really remember too much about that night. Come to find out, I must have told someone I had a kid. Maybe I told Dr. Goodman. I'm not sure. I kind of remember telling him about my kid, I think. Maybe. I know I told someone.
I kind of remember talking to Bones right after it turned into Christmas Eve. I'm pretty sure I did. She was working on the case that I had brought her. She wasn't upset about being locked up for Christmas. I think I brought up God; but, she doesn't believe in God so if I did then I don't know why I did it. I think I called her a Christmas killer. Something like that. I don't know if I should apologize to Bones about how I behaved or not. I don't really know if I behaved badly or not and she won't tell me.
I was better the next morning. At least I wasn't high anymore. I know I made fun of Bones being accidentally drugged a while back. I've change my mind. That wasn't funny at all.
Angela wanted to decorate the Lab and try to have Christmas even though we were waiting to die or not. Everyone seemed to want to get into it. I asked if Bones would and Dr. Goodman told me about her parents disappearing at Christmas time when she was a kid and she never knew what happened to them. No wonder she hates Christmas.
Angela wanted to do a Secret Santa. Why not? It was something to do while I was waiting to die or not.
I talked to Bones about the case. The FBI sent over some info on who originally owned the fallout shelter. She told me about some stuff she found on the body and what the victim may have looked like. I made the mistake of telling Bones that I was Dr. Goodman's Secret Santa. She shot me down. I don't know why I bothered.
I decided to look at the contents of the suit case. Why not? Maybe something in the case would tell me something about the victim. It's not like I had a lot to do while I waited to die. Dr. Goodman was looking for something to do so he helped me. We found some letters and Dr. Goodman volunteered to read them.
Rebecca called me and I ended up begging her to let me see Parker for Christmas Eve. I told her Sid would bring Parker over here for a quick visit. She finally decided to let him come. I don't know why she can be such a hard ass at Christmas time. She knows Christmas is my favorite time of year and for some reason that seems to set off her buttons. Dr. Goodman overheard my conversation with Rebecca. Nothing I could do about that.
I figured out how to find out who our victim was. I made a few calls and found out his name was Lionel Little. I started calling the victim Careful Lionel.
Dr. Goodman figured out that the letters were from Careful Lionel's girlfriend. She was pregnant and living in Oklahoma. While we were eating dinner, Dr. Goodman told us about the letters.
Bones mentioned that I have a child out of wedlock to me. It came up in some snide reference to Mary, the mother of Jesus. I sure would like to know who told her that I had a kid. I wish I could remember who I told that I had a son. Whoever he was, he has a big mouth. My private life is private. Well it use to be until I had to start dealing with all of these geniuses and they started drugging me for crazy diseases I've never heard of.
Anyways, Dr. Goodman figured out that the girlfriend of Careful Lionel was probably African American.
We finally got to visit with our family. We had to stay on one side of the door while our family stayed on the other side, with the door sealed shut. Sid brought Parker. At least I got to see my son on Christmas Eve. I felt bad that I didn't have a present for him and he had to be brought to the lab so I could see him. That wasn't how I pictured Christmas Eve.
I finally got the Missing Person's File for Lionel Little and decided to show it to Bones. I walked into her office while she was talking to Angela and I heard Bones tell Angela about the first Christmas she had after her parents disappeared and before she was put in Foster care. It made me feel kind if sick, thinking of Bones being this kid in Foster Care. I think her being in Foster Care is the reason she doesn't make friends so easily. Kids treat you differently if you don't have parents. I was raised by Pops so even though he was my grandfather he was my parent and the kids at my school accepted that.
I filled in Bones and Dr. Goodman about Lionel Little. Lionel was a lease inspector for an oil company in Oklahoma and a coin collector. After he disappeared his coin collection was sold. The sale was traced back to Gil Adkins, the owner of the fallout shelter. That guy really did get away with murder. The person who was last reported seeing Lionel alive was Ivy Gillespie, a woman who cleaned Lionel's office. Dr. Goodman figured out that Ivy was Lionel's girlfriend.
Angela talked Bones into tracking down Ivy Gillespie to give Ivy some closure about Lionel. Bones finally tracked Ivy down to a nursing home in Maryland. She was on the phone all day doing that. A lot of people don't see what a kind person Bones is. I think that's a shame.
We did our Secret Santa. I made an origami bird for Dr. Goodman. It's something I learned how to do while I was on loan from the FBI to Japan a few years ago. I still remember how to do it and it didn't turn out too bad. Dr. Goodman liked it. That's what counts. Zach gave me a robot. I decided to give it to Parker for Christmas. Parker likes robots so that would be a cool present for him. I guess it pays to be friends with eggheads, at least some times.
Bones found out that a penny we found on Lionel was a rare penny worth over a hundred thousand dollars. Wow. Gil Adkins killed Lionel for his coin collection; but, he didn't get the most valuable coin Lionel owned. Way to go Lionel. At least you got some revenge on Gil, the stupid bastard.
Our final test results came back and we weren't going to die after all. I hot footed it over to Wong Foos to meet Parker. Before I left, I invited Bones to come with me to the restaurant. She didn't come with me. She really does hate Christmas.
Later she came by Wong Foos to tell me that Ivy Gillespie came in to the Lab with her granddaughter. Bones told them about Careful Lionel and the penny. I was really happy for Bones. She got to do something nice for someone for Christmas. I think it made her feel good about Christmas after all. Well, at least this Christmas.
Sid had gone over to Rebecca's and picked up Parker for me while I was on the way from the Lab to the restaurant. It was great seeing Parker for Christmas. Oh man, Parker loved that robot. Zach did me a huge favor. I couldn't have bought a present as cool as that robot. It wasn't worth almost dying for though. Next Christmas I'm going to try to take a few days of vacation, that way I'll have a normal Christmas with normal people.
I think I'm going to have to come up with some way to get Bones to celebrate the holiday with me next year. No one should be alone during Christmas. I'll talk to Pops about it.
Ooooooooooooooo
The Man in the Fallout Shelter is one of my favorite Bones episodes. What do you think of my story so far?
