Chapter 9
Addison slowly lowered herself onto the soft mattress at her hotel. She hadn't quite figured out what she was going to do or where she was going so she just sat, numb to any and all emotions. Addison was raised in a household where crying and basically the whole spectrum of human emotion was frowned upon and even though Addison felt like crying until she had no tears left she just couldn't bring herself to feel. That's why she loved Meredith; She made her feel…hope, love, happiness, fear, anxiousness. She made her feel everything she never had before and even more importantly, she made Meredith feel. While Addison sat numb with a dry porcelain face, Meredith was quite the opposite.
She sat clenching her chest as if she could feel her broken heart. Meredith's heart was a fragile, broken thing held together by false hope and lots of liquor to numb the pain. Her heart was like a vase that had just been shattered into a million tiny pieces, each individual shard piercing through her lungs, making it harder for her to breathe. She tried to keep herself from the question that was burning in her mind-Was this the first time Addison was with Mark? The images of Addison, her Addison, and Mark were seared into her restless mind and they made her heart blister and ache. She had to escape…her thoughts, her mind, New York…She had to escape and she knew just the place to go.

Addison took a deep breath before knocking on the door to Meredith's house. She was surprised when she saw not the blonde whom she had come to love, but a short woman with light brown hair who was giving her a look that could kill.
"Um hi, is Meredith around?" the redhead asked awkwardly.
"She left." the petite woman replied as she quickly tried to slam the door.
"I'm sorry, did I do something to you or are you always this agitated?"
"I'm Lilli by the way not that you cared enough to ask but to answer your question no, you did not do anything to me but you did run my best friend out of town."
"What? What do you mean out of town? Meredith left?" Addison asked incredulously.
"I mean she left, Addison. She bought a plane ticket and she left somewhere."
"Do you know where?" the redhead questioned frantically as she rubbed circles on her temples hoping to gain her composure.
"No, she just asked me to check on everything here every so often. Besides what do you care? You guys got into one fight and you cheated!"
"You don't know the whole story, Lilli! I wish I wouldn't have ever let her leave, I…I love Meredith so, so much." the surgeon's tears finally pooled in her blue eyes, "So please, if you do know where she is going just tell me."
Lilli narrowed her eyes at the disheveled redhead with mascara running down her cheeks and her hair thrown haphazardly into a pony tail and concluded that she truly did love her friend. "All I know is that her flight is at eleven and she's leaving from JFK airport."
Addison's eyes lit up at this revelation and she spewed off about eight "thank yous" before getting in her car and speeding towards the airport.

Meredith smiled politely at the cashier as she paid for her coffee. She glanced at her boarding pass and headed towards her gate number. The blonde sat for a while doing anything to keep her mind from wandering to the beautiful redhead she would soon leave behind. A piece of her wanted to just crawl into bed with the neonatal surgeon, put her arms around her and never leave that position but Meredith folded those emotions into an insignificant little ball and tucked them far away. She knew it was pointless, hoping that Addison would come and look for her, but she still looked around the crowds of people for the one person who meant so much to her. The soft voice of the flight attendant boarding passengers drew her out of the dark labyrinth that was her mind.
"Now boarding rows seven to fourteen, seven to fourteen."
Meredith stood up and slowly made her way to the flight attendant. As the woman took her boarding pass, she scanned the airport one last time searching for the redheaded surgeon. She took in a shaky breath and made her way towards the aircraft. It was a few agonizingly slow minutes later that the plane was finally ready for take off. The floor trembled as the jet engines came to life and Meredith took one last look out of the window before sliding down the plastic cover blocking her view of the city she once loved. Just as Meredith settled into her seat for the long flight ahead of her, a whirlwind of fiery hair raced around the airport searching for the very blonde that was now drifting to sleep unaware of what was taking place just inside the airport.
A/N: Where do you guys think Mer is going? I hope you guys liked the first new chapter, please let me know!
