Chapter 10: Inuyasha's Party Part 2

Sesshomaru stealthily followed the young woman who bumped into him not too long ago. He was still surprised that she was not scared of his persona, and what made it even more surprising was that this human woman made his youkai rumble with satisfaction, which was something he didn't expect. He didn't mind being around humans, but he wasn't expecting one to cause his youkai rumble with yearning. He always thought he'd end up with another youkai or possibly a hanyou. He never thought a human girl would capture him so.

Rin was making her way to her friends, making sure not to bump into anyone in the crowded room. She then felt a smooth yet cold hand wrap around her wrist. She gasped with surprise, and turned to see who grabbed her. Her chocolate eyes looked up to see cold amber ones looking back at her. She blushed a little and smiled at him. Sesshomaru looked back at her, but still held no expression on his face.

"May I help you?" Rin asked politely.

"What is your name?" asked Sesshomaru with his usual cold tone but it had a hint of interest in it.

She smiled brightly at him. "My name is Rin," she said in a cheery tone.

He looked at the young woman before him. He was mesmerized by her beautiful chocolate orbs which shone happily and were full of optimism, something he lacked. She was the complete opposite of him. She was always happy and giggling; he was always cold and rash. I guess the expression "opposites attract" would fit this situation perfectly.

His youkai was rumbling with longing, something Sesshomaru never felt before. He was shocked at all the emotions running through him at the moment, but never once did his countenance falter. All of these emotions because of this human woman bumping into him? It was impossible, or so he thought. His youkai then began speaking to him.

'MINE…' rumbled his youkai.

Sesshomaru gasped inwardly at the remark of his youkai. Could this human girl possibly be his mate?

'She is but a human girl,' he said.

'And this human girl will be ours…' growled his youkai with determination.

'No, I don't want her,' said Sesshomaru coldly.

'Stop trying to fool yourself Sesshomaru… if you didn't, why did you approach her in the first place?' asked his youkai. If it was visible, it would've had a sly grin on its face.

Sesshomaru growled quietly. Rin didn't hear it because of the music from the party, but she could tell there was something wrong.

"Is anything wrong…?" she asked. She trailed off because she never caught his name.

"I'm fine," he said flatly. "By the way, my name is Sesshomaru." He knew she stopped her question because she didn't know his name.

Rin smiled at Sesshomaru; she then grabbed his hand, which caught him by surprise. She then began dragging him toward the dance floor.

"Where are we going?" he asked.

"We're gonna dance silly!" she said in a childish tone.

Sesshomaru looked at her and smiled on the inside. He then cursed himself because his youkai was right. He was attracted to Rin; everything about her intrigued him and made him want to know more about her. He also loved her scent of strawberry kiwi. He followed Rin to the dance floor, thinking about how much he yearned to know more about this mysterious woman who captured his heart instantly.

Rin walked up to her friends, still holding Sesshomaru's hand. Ayame, Sango, and Kagome looked at her and grinned.

"Who's your new friend Rin?" asked Ayame with a curious face.

Rin blushed. "Uh, this is Sesshomaru," she said in her usual cheery voice. "I bumped into him while grabbing a soda."

"You're so clumsy sometimes Rin," said Sango as she, Kagome and Ayame chuckled.

Rin's blush got a little brighter. "I know, but I can't help it," she said with an innocent, childlike tone.

Sesshomaru smirked a little at Rin's behavior. He loved how innocent she was. He then noticed Inuyasha was among Rin's group of friends and he frowned.

Inuyasha looked at his older brother and smirked. "Is she your new girlfriend Fluffy?" he asked with a sly grin.

Rin blushed even harder, and Sesshomaru shot daggers at his brother. "No," he said flatly.

Inuyasha looked at him with the same smirk still plastered to his face. "Ssssuuurrrreeee," he said in a tone dripping with disbelief. He knew his brother liked Rin.

Sesshomaru then noticed that Inuyasha was standing next to Kagome, and he put on a sly grin of his own. "Is she your woman?" he asked mischievously as he motioned to Kagome.

Inuyasha's face turned bright red. "No! She's my best friend!" he exclaimed quickly.

Sesshomaru's smirk grew a little wider; he heard the conversation Inuyasha had with their parents about Kagome being destined as his mate. "But when you were talking to Father a few weeks ago, you said your youkai-"

"Shut up Sesshomaru!" yelled Inuyasha as he quickly cut off Sesshomaru. He still didn't tell Kagome about his youkai claiming her.

"Rin, why don't you and my brother dance?" he asked as he pushed the couple farther onto the dance floor.

Rin happily obliged and dragged Sesshomaru deeper into the dance floor. Inuyasha sighed with relief. He turned to see his friends looking at him.

"What?" he asked as he sweat dropped at the stares he got from his friends.

"What was he saying about your youkai?" asked Kagome quizzically.

Inuyasha's face flushed. "Oh nothing! He's just being a bastard," he said with a frustrated tone.

His friends decided to drop the topic since it was his birthday and they wanted him to be happy. He was glad that they didn't ask about it anymore. Ayame and Kouga as well as Sango and Miroku began dancing again, and Kagome left to grab something to drink. Inuyasha decided to step outside for a bit of fresh air while his friend disappeared in the group of people as she made her way to the kitchen.

He was sitting on his porch thinking. He couldn't help but think about what his youkai said to him earlier. Was he really in love with his best friend? Are they really meant to be mates? There were so many thoughts running through his head. If he really admitted to himself he was in love with Kagome, did she love him back? Did she even think about him that way? What if she didn't? What if she wanted to be with someone else? His ears drooped at the thought of Kagome being with another man instead of him. His youkai began to growl angrily inside of him. He knew his youkai didn't want Kagome with anyone else, and he soon realized he didn't either.

Kagome told him what she went through during the years they were apart, and noticed how unhappy it made her just thinking about it. He smelled the tears forming in her eyes whenever she talked about it, but she never, not once, let any tears fall. He hated seeing her so unhappy, and he would kill any man that would dare take her for granted and make her unhappy. She deserved to be loved with everything a man had. She deserved to be treated like the goddess she was instead of some worthless object. She wasn't worthless in his eyes; she was a rare treasure to him that he wanted to keep close forever. He wanted her only for himself, and when that thought crossed his mind, he finally realized it.

He was madly in love with Kagome.

His youkai rumbled with satisfaction at Inuyasha's epiphany. Inuyasha cursed his youkai for being so arrogant, but he knew it wasn't wrong. 'Okay, okay, you win. I do love Kagome,' he thought.

Just then, he saw someone approaching him. When he looked, he saw Kagome, or so he thought. The woman was quickly approaching, and it was then that he noticed it was Kikyo. His youkai flared with anger at the woman who was inching closer and closer to him. He shuddered as she was in front of him, the same smell of cheap perfume filling his nose and making him gag quietly.

"Hi Inuyasha," she said with a smile. "Happy Birthday," she said seductively.

Inuyasha shuddered again on the inside. "Uh, thanks," said the hanyou as he forced a smile on his face.

"I brought you a gift," said Kikyo with a seductive yet mischievous smile.

She then grabbed Inuyasha's face and pressed her lips against his. Inuyasha's eyes widened in surprise, he couldn't believe she'd do something like this. He tried to push her away from him, but he didn't want to use too much force and hurt her. This only made her press her lips harder against his.

Kagome saw Inuyasha outside, and decided to go out there to talk to him. She then saw Kikyo kissing Inuyasha and dropped her can of soda.

Inuyasha heard the CLUNK of the soda can, and smelled vanilla and honey. He quickly pushed Kikyo off of him, knocking her to the ground. Kagome stood there frozen; she couldn't believe what she just saw. Her eyes began to show hints of green as her face turned from shocked to angry.

"Kagome…" began Inuyasha. He really didn't know what to say. The words were caught in his throat and refused to come out.

Kikyo got up from the floor with a grin on her face, satisfied with herself. "What's wrong bitch? Can't handle that I kissed my Inuyasha?" asked Kikyo with an evil grin on her face.

Kagome's eyes began to get greener and greener, and Inuyasha felt a little scared as he sensed her anger. Kagome was glad she was wearing sneakers, because she then ran up to Kikyo and grabbed her by the collar of her shirt. Kikyo's grin was quickly replaced with fear; she didn't know Kagome was so fast.

"Listen Kiky-ho, when the fuck are you gonna get it through your head?" began Kagome with rage in her voice. "Inuyasha DOES NOT want you!! Take the hint and go tricking somewhere," she yelled.

Kikyo's face then showed a little anger. She couldn't believe what she was hearing! Without warning, she slapped Kagome across the face. Inuyasha looked with wide eyes. He knew Kikyo just made one of the biggest mistakes in her life.

Kagome then turned to face Kikyo once again, her eyes shining with fury. Her free hand was balled up into a fist at her side. Kikyo then had horror on her face as she just realized what she had done. Before she could turn to run, Kagome's fist once again met Kikyo's face, with more force this time. Kikyo fell to the floor and Kagome sat on her and continued punching Kikyo in a blind rage.

Inuyasha quickly ran up to Kagome and picked her up. He hauled her away from Kikyo, who lied on the floor unconscious but was still breathing. Kikyo's friends, who were waiting for her by the gate, quickly ran up to her and carried her away. Kagome was still swinging and almost hit Inuyasha.

"Let go of me!!" she yelled.

"Kagome stop!! It's over!!" yelled Inuyasha has he tried to constrain her.

When she heard Inuyasha's voice, she quickly calmed down. She didn't realize it was him who broke her away from Kikyo. She looked at him with her bright green eyes. Her expression softened and her eyes slowly faded back to a light brown color. Inuyasha was relieved that she calmed down.

"Are you okay?" he asked with concern.

"Yeah, I'm fine," said Kagome. "That bitch just doesn't learn, does she?"

Inuyasha looked at her and grinned. He was so glad to have a friend like her. Sure he had lots of friends, but no one stood up for him or accepted him as much as Kagome did.

"Why did you start pounding her like that?" asked Inuyasha who was still surprised by what Kagome did.

Kagome's face showed a little anger. "When she did that, she reminded me of my mother. She does that to me a lot, but I don't fight back because she's my mom. When Kikyo did it, I just snapped because I'm sick of being treated that way." Tears began forming in her eyes again, but she refused to let them fall.

Inuyasha felt devastated. He had no idea she was constantly abused by her mom. This made him even angrier, and a low growl vibrated in his chest. Kagome heard it and she turned to him.

"You okay Inuyasha?" she asked with concern.

Inuyasha quickly realized he was growling and stopped. "Yeah, I'm fine. I just hate seeing you so unhappy."

Kagome blushed a little. "Thanks for caring," she said with a smile.

"What are friends for?" said Inuyasha with a smirk as he hugged her.

They went back inside to join the rest of their friends at the party. They all began talking and laughing together. Rin and Sesshomaru were still dancing together, and her friends looked at them and smiled. Rin walked up to her friends along with Sesshomaru, and her friends quickly hid their grins.

"Why does it smell like blood?" asked Sesshomaru as he looked at the group of Rin's friends.

Kagome looked down at her hands and realized that her knuckles were covered in Kikyo's blood. She realized Sesshomaru was talking about her and she quickly ran to the bathroom to wash her hands. When she left, Inuyasha told them about the altercation between Kagome and Kikyo. They looked at him with wide eyes, even Sesshomaru. He didn't think a human, a human woman no less, would possess that kind of strength and rage.

Kagome then met back up with her friends and they quickly hid their surprised expressions. They all smiled at her and they began talking again. Kagome then excused herself to go get some air. Everyone thought it would be best if she was left alone for a while, so they let her go and began dancing again.

Kagome was standing outside on the patio, thinking. She couldn't believe she snapped the way she did. Why did she feel so angry? Granted, she didn't like Kikyo, but she never would lose control just from her slapping her like that. Could it have been because Inuyasha was kissing someone? Did she feel jealous? No, it's impossible; she couldn't have feelings for her best friend, could she? So many thoughts ran through her head as she pondered her current situation.

'Inuyasha is thoughtful, funny, and caring,' she thought to herself. 'He's also kind, loyal, sexy…' Wait a minute! Did she just think that Inuyasha is sexy? She shook her head furiously. She can't have feelings for him! He's her best friend! Kagome's mind then flashed the scene of Kikyo kissing Inuyasha, and she became furious. 'Wait, why am I getting so worked up for?' she thought to herself.

'Because you like him dumbass!!' yelled a voice in her head. She realized it was her conscience.

'No way! I can't like Inuyasha! He's my best friend!' she yelled to herself.

'Please Kagome. You've had feelings for the boy since you two were younger,' said her conscience.

Kagome shook her head furiously again, shaking the thought from her head. Her conscience couldn't be right, right? She then thought about Inuyasha; she knew how kind and caring the hanyou was, and she would beat any girl's ass if they treated him like shit. He deserved to be loved deeply with everything a woman had. He deserved to be treated with kindness and tenderness, the same way he treated everyone else. He didn't need to be looked at as just a hanyou, but as something precious. She knew that humans and demons always looked down on hanyous like they were worthless. But to her, he is much more than a hanyou. He is one of the most precious things she has in her life, and didn't want to be separated from him again because she'd be alone again. Then it dawned on her.

She was madly in love with Inuyasha.

What if he didn't feel the same? What if he didn't think of her in that way? What if he wanted to be with someone else instead of her? She sighed at the thought of Inuyasha being with someone else, it would break her heart. But his happiness was important to her, so she'd figure she'd deal with it as long as they were still best friends. Could she really be in love with her best friend? She decided to keep this to herself because she didn't want to jeopardize their friendship.

She walked back into the party and met up with her friends on the dance floor. Inuyasha went to grab a soda, so he wasn't there. Her friends were still dancing with the guys, so she began dancing by herself. She knew how to dance, but no one would expect it since she was always in boyish clothes. Someone then began dancing with her. It was Shippo, one of the guys that helped Inuyasha and Miroku with their prank.

She didn't mind, it was a party right? So they were dancing together and he had his hands on her hips. Inuyasha then walked back into the party and froze. He saw Kagome dancing with Shippo and began getting angry. His youkai growled with rage at the sight of it. Inuyasha's eyes flickered red and he growled angrily. He couldn't believe someone was dancing with his Kagome. He didn't want any other man to touch her at all, and couldn't believe Shippo had the balls to do so.

He quickly went up to the dancing couple and yanked Shippo away from Kagome. Kagome didn't notice anything since she let the music carry her away.

"Stay away from Kagome," Inuyasha growled. His eyes began turning red.

Shippo looked at him with fear and ran. Inuyasha smirked with satisfaction as he saw the boy running with his tail between his legs. The song ended, and Kagome as well as her friends began talking again. Inuyasha's eyes turned back to their beautiful amber hue and joined the conversation his friends were having.

The last song of the party began playing; it was a slow song. Miroku grabbed Sango, Kouga grabbed Ayame, and Sesshomaru grabbed Rin, and they began dancing together slowly. The three couples looked at each other and the sparks between them were visible. Kagome and Inuyasha watched their friends dance with grins on their faces.

"Kagome… will you dance with me?" asked Inuyasha shyly. "You haven't danced with me at all during my party, so will you?" He prayed to Kami that his excuse would work.

Kagome looked at Inuyasha quizzically. She then smiled and said, "Okay Inuyasha, because you're the birthday boy, I'll dance with you."

Inuyasha's face lit up and they made their way to the dance floor. He put his hands on her waist and she rested her hands on his shoulders. They were moving slowly with the melody, amber eyes staring intensely into hazel ones. It was as if everything around them disappeared and it was just the two of them. They continued to look at each other, smiling.

"I'm glad you came Kagome," said Inuyasha quietly.

"Me too," she said in the same tone.

She then rested her head against his chest. Inuyasha blushed brightly; luckily Kagome couldn't see him. They were still rocking slowly to the song and Inuyasha could smell her scent of vanilla and honey. His youkai growled happily and contently. He wanted to kiss her so bad, but he didn't want to risk his friendship with her.

'Kiss her… what are you waiting for?' asked his youkai impatiently.

'I-I don't know if I should,' he said hesitantly.

'Stop being such a coward. You give a bad name to inu youkai.'

Inuyasha growled at his youkai; the nerve of it! Inuyasha then mustered up his courage and cupped Kagome's face in his hand. She looked up at him with a confused expression. His amber eyes stared into her hazel ones, and he began to bring his face closer to hers. Kagome froze, not knowing whether or not she should stop him. But before she could decide, Inuyasha's lips made contact with hers. He then wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her closer. She melted into the kiss, it felt like heaven. She wrapped her arms around his neck and deepened the kiss.

Neither could believe what was going on, but continued to kiss. Ayame, Rin, Sango, Kouga, Miroku, and Sesshomaru looked at them as they kissed, surprised but thought "Finally!" Kouga then turned to Ayame and kissed her, Miroku did the same to Sango, and Sesshomaru followed suit and kissed Rin.

Kagome came back to her senses, and quickly pulled away from Inuyasha. Inuyasha looked at her with a confused expression. He felt so happy that he kissed her and she kissed him back. So why did she have a guilty look on her face?

"I-I'm sorry Inuyasha. I have to go now," said Kagome with a panicked voice. She then grabbed her jacket and ran out of the house.

Inuyasha looked at her retreating form and felt so stupid. He knew he shouldn't have kissed her, but it felt so right. He then stormed off to his room, angrily leaving his party and friends behind.
