Disclaimer: I don't own Danny Phantom or Teen Titans.
The word 'shitty' could not even begin to describe Danny's situation right now. Here he was, having just revealed himself to the freaking Teen Titans, and now they're questioning him. Correction, the apprentice to the freaking Batman was questioning him.
How might he get out of this incredibly shitty situation? By running the hell away.
So when Robin said he had some explaining to do, he gave him the bird and transformed intending to fly away and away from Jump City forever. However, as soon as he got about ten feet in the air, he transformed back to a human and landed hard on his stomach in the water.
"Ow…" he muttered as he pushed himself up from the ground. The belly flop he had just done into the shallow waves had not been pleasant. And the fact that he couldn't transform didn't make him feel any better either.
"That stupid gauntlet must have messed up my powers," he thought. He pushed himself off the ground and looked back at the Titans, who were still gawking at him like idiots. Besides Robin, of course. He looked pretty damn mad; probably because of the oh so kind gesture he just gave him.
"Now look-"
"No, you look!" Danny said, glaring at Robin. "I don't have to explain anything to you guys. I didn't do anything wrong here, just a little freak with powers." Now that he thought about it, Robin had probably suspected he had powers from the beginning.
"Wait, but how are you a ghost?" Raven said with disbelief. "It's not possible."
"Well, shows what you know, doesn't it?" Danny said. Yes, he was being rude. No, he did not care. "I'm what's called, 'none of your business.' So I'll do you a favor and get out of your hair, and you can do me a favor by staying out of my life."
He then walked away from them, vowing to never involve himself with heroes again. He couldn't face people like this again; they reminded him too much of himself before his life fell apart. Before he realized that being a hero just meant a whole lot of pain.
"Wait!" He stopped, but didn't turn around. "You're in pain. Not just physical. Your emotional blocks may hide most of it, but I can still feel it. That isn't healthy, and you know it."
He turned around and looked at Raven. He could feel his heart shattering when he looked at her uncovered face, so much like Sam's. Her usual emotionless mask was breaking, showing the concern and anger beneath it.
"Why do you even care?! I don't even know you." He tried to get his voice to sound aggressive, but it cracked near the end, showing all his emotions he'd been bottling up for months.
"Friend-Danny, we are heroes. It is not just our responsibility to help people, but we have the want to also," Starfire said, with determination in her eyes.
He choked. He too felt the same way; the need to help people. Even though most of the people hated him in that washed up town, there were those who appreciated him saving them. Just to see the thankfulness in their eyes, it made him feel...complete. Appreciated. For living a whole life where you were degraded just for existing, it was like a drug.
"We can help you dude, you just gotta trust us," Beastboy said, stepping a little closer.
This was bad. He was on the verge of having a mental breakdown in front of the Teen Titans. He was already exhausted; that beating he took from the sand warrior hadn't been a walk in the park.
He bowed his head, turned around and ran. He couldn't face these people like this. He couldn't let them see the tears that were spilling out. All the pain in his eyes.
All he wanted to do was go home. Not the apartment, but home. Where he could lay on his bed and cry his eyes out, taking all his pain with them. Then share a cup of hot chocolate with his mother, with her comforting hand rubbing his back, as he talked out his problems. Oh god, he could picture it.
He wanted to see his family again. He wanted his bumbling father to ramble on about ghosts, his mother to try and cook in that ectoplasmic mess of a kitchen, for his sister to whisper words of encouragement while keeping that she knew what he was a secret. His friends helping him out with patrols, sharing fun moments.
That was all it took for him to break down. For about a half an hour, he sat behind a tree, curled up and sobbed. He vaguely remembered his sister saying that if he bottled up all his emotions like this, it would eventually explode where he didn't want it to. The thought just made him even more miserable.
After a while he just ran out of tears, feeling as though he needed to cry even more. Since he couldn't, he just sat there. Wishing for it all to end, so he could finally escape the shell of a life he was living.
"Are you sure we should have just let him go like that?"
Robin looked at Beastboy, seeing his concern for the guy that had saved their butts twice, and who always joked with them whenever they went to the pizza place. "He was right; we really have no right to question him. All he did was help us on occasion. And I just…" He blew up on him, immediately suspicious. It seemed everyone he saw seemed to be suspicious in his eyes nowadays. "We should probably just leave him alone, for now. He hasn't done anything wrong-"
"FREEZE INVISOBILL!"
The Titans immediately put up their guards, facing the source of the shout. It had come from two men dressed in crisp white suits wearing jet packs. They had odd futuristic-looking guns that were currently pointed at them. They glanced at the Titans, barely acknowledging their presence.
"No good, the signature's gone," one of the agents said.
"He probably hasn't gone that far though," the other said. They then both took another look at the Titans, then to the man they had apprehended. "And what do you know, we've found the other freak too." They smirked, then walked up to the ice covered ghost. They fired a few rounds of...whatever was in their guns, and the ice broke. The ghost barely had a second to enjoy her freedom before she was sucked up by what looked like a containment device held by one of the agents.
"Sorry, who are you exactly?" Robin asked sharply. Being a teen who had started in the hero business very young, he could easily detect people who had little to no respect for people other than adults. The way that they barely noticed them was clear evidence that these two were disrespectful and patronizing.
"Agents K and O of the G.I.W. We have come to take the man known as Freakshow back into custody, and apprehend a ghost that our organization has been tracking for a while."
"Ghost?" Raven said.
"Invisobill: a ghost who had been terrorizing citizens and suspected for the disappearance and possible murder of a missing person."
"It's also a scientific enigma; it needs to be studied before it's destroyed," the agent finished.
"Scientific enigma for sure," Raven thought. "Also an impossibility of nature. But these agents don't understand that; they just believe that all ghosts are evil and must be eradicated." She had constantly felt growing frustration over people who believed that. Mostly people who just theorized and concluded that they knew everything about the paranormal before having even met a ghost.
"You understand that we can't just give him to y'all," Cyborg said, crossing his thick metallic arms.
The men narrowed their eyes, just now fully taking in the appearances of the five teens. "This does not concern you. Go back to your costume party."
"He did not just-" Beastboy started, but he was cut off by Robin.
"We're the Teen Titans. We were about to take this man back to the station. If you have the papers that prove you have jurisdiction, then you can work it out with them. But for now, don't interfere." He said all this icily, as if daring them to object. He glared at them, and he could see that they were bending to his will.
They shuffled a bit, then seemed to have a silent conversation.
"Fine. We'll meet you at the police station," one finally said.
They then all began to make their way off the beach and into the city. Raven however stayed back a bit, observing the metal gauntlet that they left behind. After some internal debate, she picked up the Reality Gauntlet and tucked it beneath her cloak, taking out the power source first. She then quickly caught up with the rest of the Titans her thoughts filled with the agents whose auras were tainted with darkness.
Danny walked up to Martha's apartment in a sort of daze. He felt empty, hollow. He kept running over the events of today in his mind. Freakshow's appearance, the painful reminder of his loved one's death, and of course him revealing his secret to the Teen Titans and having a mental breakdown right in front of them.
After he had cried his eyes out he'd decided to go back to the apartment. He needed to leave this hellhole-and never look back. He regretted having to leave the rickety mattress; it would be hard to get used to sleeping in caves again. And of course stealing; he barely had enough money as it was.
"Hey Danny! I got a bunch of customers today; the business is doing really awesome!" Martha said as he walked through the door. She beamed at him, but it then faded when she saw his tear stained face. "Oh crap…"
He was tempted to give her a glare, but decided not to and just trudged up to his room. Martha was good at reading emotions and when to give people alone time, but she never had good words to say. But that didn't matter. He just needed to grab his stuff and get out of Jump as soon as possible.
"Woooaaah… what?...CRAP!" Danny sighed, wondering what in the world Martha was doing now. "Uh...Danny!"
"Yeah?" he said, failing to keep the slight quiver out of his voice.
"Either I just peed myself, or my water just broke."
What? What water…? Oh.
Oh.
He rushed out of his room and into the kitchen where Martha was. She was holding her stomach, and looking down with her legs in an awkward position. She looked up at him, obviously uncomfortable and nervous.
"What now? What do we do? Areyougoingintolabordowehavetocallanambulance-"
"Danny! Shut up!" He closed his mouth, waiting for her to speak.
"I don't need an ambulance; we just have to drive to the hospital. Now."
"Okay...okay...do you need me to drive?"
"That would be nice."
They then walked to Martha's car, with said pregnant woman walking awkwardly. He couldn't blame her; it must have felt pretty weird. But at least she wasn't in pain, right?
The drive was mostly Danny talking to Martha and reassuring her that everything was going to be fine. And Danny also asking for pointers on how to drive her ancient bug. The engine was very loud; and the on the outside the color looked like it used to be a bright light blue, but it had faded into a light grayish-blue from age.
When they finally arrived at the hospital, Danny was a nervous wreck running on adrenaline. He was relieved when they accepted Martha soon, and as soon as she was ushered into a room, he collapsed in a chair outside. He could feel the adrenaline rushing out of him, making him exhausted and emotionally spent. Since he wasn't Martha's family, he decided not to go in with her. It didn't feel right that he should witness something so amazing (and gross) and he wouldn't have wanted his friend/blackmailed-worker-that-shares-the-apartmen t with him while he was giving birth. That came out wrong…
"Um, sir?" He looked up at a young nurse, who was currently fidgeting uncomfortably as she tried to make eye contact with him. He wondered why, then realized what he probably looked like right now as an emotional and physical wreck. Now that his adrenaline was gone, every bruise he acquired earlier was hitting him full blast.
"Yeah?" he said.
"There are some men outside who want to see you."
He blinked. So help me if it was one of the Titans- "Why did they want to see me, exactly?"
"They said they had been looking for a young man named Daniel Fenton."
Oh. Well whoopty freaking doo. No getting out of this; he might as well just go out there and deny everything. He wasn't staying long anyway.
"Alright. Take me to them."
He had expected a few social workers; not the Guys in White. There were two agents, standing awkwardly by the hospital doors. When he came out, they discreetly put one of their hands in their pockets, either holding their I.D.s or their out-of-date ectoguns.
"Agent K and O of the G.I.W.," one of them said, removing his hand to pull out his I.D. "We're here to ask you a few questions, Daniel."
He played his part. "Sorry, do I know you?"
They paused, looking at him closely. "Don't play us for fools, Daniel Fenton. We know it's you."
"My name's not Daniel, though. It's Dante Williams," he said, inwardly cheering. Thank god for that fake I.D. that Tucker created when they realized that life was out to get them. They all had fake I.D.s; they made them just in case something happened and they needed to get away quick.
"Show me your I.D., then, Dante," he said, sarcastically saying his fake name.
"Yeah, sure...I got in in here somewhere…," he said as he rummaged through his pockets. It was a fake school I.D., with his picture wearing one of Sam's brown wigs. "Here it is. I look a little different since I dyed my hair though."
They looked at the I.D., scowling as they saw it was legitimate. The two agents looked at each other, having a silent conversation. They then stood back, and addressed him: "Well, Mr. Williams, it seems we have been mistaken." one of them said, scowling obviously still believing it was all a hoax. "We would like to keep in contact with you, however."
Danny scowled, not liking where this was going. "Why? I don't even know you, no do I have any connection with your organization. I haven't even heard of you before today; how do I know you're even a legit group?"
They shifted, seeing his point. "We understand that, but if we could just-"
"No, I'm obviously not who you are looking for, so there's no need to keep in contact with me."
"You're getting quite defensive about this; why?" one of the agents said, his eyes narrowing behind his dark glasses.
"No, I just don't trust shady men, who I've never met before, who suddenly want my contacts for an unknown reason." He knew he had this in the bag. There was no way they could demand his information or contacts; they didn't have enough power, and they weren't that intimidating.
They looked at each other again, seemingly very uncomfortable. "We understand, Mr. Williams," one of them said with a sigh. "But you can expect to see us soon."
"I doubt it. Hope you find whoever you're looking for," he said coldly. He then turned around and walked back into the hospital waiting room, not giving any goodbyes.
He sat down again, his nervousness making him bounce his leg slightly in the seat. Why were the Guys in White here? There was no way they could have just stumbled upon him, he made sure that he stayed inside most of the time besides walking Cujo, and even then he had a hat on. They must have been in Jump for something else, and they just happened to notice him.
Danny sighed. He doubted that they actually believed he wasn't Danny Fenton, and he knew that it was probably not the last time he would see the agents. It didn't matter though; as soon as Martha had her baby and was situated, he was out of here.
He dimly noted that he kept telling himself that all day, and he was still here in the city.
Here's the new chapter. Don't really have anything to say, but I hope that I did well with Danny's feelings.
I probably won't have the next chapter for a while, since I have a shit load of stuff to do for school. Who knows, I may just blow off all school stuff since I'm seriously addicted to this site.
Until next time.
