A.
Heero agrees after a suitable period of thought and we can get past the mateship part and to the trouble British is attempting to pile on them.
OR
B.
Heero intends to reject him and sees him with a potential dominant only to get jealous.
Hariel's last mate is still in the air, though most of the reviewers seems to want the dementor prince. Only one voted for Rabastan.
Duo stood from the couch he was sitting on when Hariel entered the sitting room. The grin he `sent the younger man hid his nervousness at their meeting, but it faultered at the sight of Hariel. The younger man looked pale with fear and his hands shook.
"Are you all right Hari?" the purple eyed man asked.
The room was empty besides the two of them. Duo had asked his friends not to come in, needing to figure this knew hurdle out himself. Hariel had been avoiding him and he wanted to know if he had done something to drive his friend away. He had not expected the naked fear though. What had happened to his friend since the last time they met up?
Hariel clasped his hands together tightly. He took a deep breath before he managed to be calm enough to speak.
"There's something I need to tell you Duo." He said not meeting the others eyes.
"If I did something to hurt you, I'm sorry." Duo blurted. Hariel shook his head.
"I-it's not th-that." He stammered.
"B-but I need to tell you, and it's very hard."
Duo motioned for Hariel to take a seat and got him a cup of tea. By the time the two of them were settled Hariel was able to speak.
"Mama says you know about the second community?"
"I do."
"Mama and I are apart of it. I-I was born with a nonhuman gene dominant in me though. My kind are called Valkierion." Hariel explained to Duo about Valkierion's before continuing to speak.
"A woman figured out what I was when I was very young. She came to my parents home so that she could give me to her son. In Britain Valkierion's are very rare. Most try to stay away as the community there sees them as nothing more then sex slaves. They ignore most of the information on Valkierions and don't care how young or willing we are."
Hariel took a sip of tea, setting it down with shaking hands.
"The woman killed my father because he would not give me up. She would have killed my mother, but her at the time husband stopped her. Mama fled to l2 where we met. After we returned mama sought to hide the features I would be receiving. It didn't work. In the end we had to flee Britain, losing my godfather to prison along the way."
He explained what had been happening in his life until they met up again.
"Valkierions don't have destined mates, but there are certain qualities we seek for each one. We can have up to ten mates, though the decision is made between the entire mateship. Some of our mates insist upon it to help with security, though they can also form alliances and be exclusive."
Hariel stared down at his hands.
"That day we first ran into each other at the school. I found a potential first mate. First mates are our first line of defense, they are our main pillar of strength. It's just…" Hariel fell silent, his eyes cast down to his lap.
"I care for you Duo. You are my first and closest friend. I didn't want to hurt you, and I don't know if he's interested or would be interested after learning about me being not quite human. I've spent my life afraid to allow domenants near me, but I want a family too. And you keep changing your actions towards him. Sometimes its like you know, and approve. And other times its like you don't approve. I-I'm sorry."
Duo had sat in silence, listening to the younger man's words in complete shock. He only came out of it when he saw Hariel's head in his hands and heard the soft sobs coming from his friend. He jumped up and wrapped his arms around the black haired man shushing him softly.
"I'm tired of being alone. Tired of domenants trying to push me into a relationship. Not listening to me when I say no. I'm tired of fighting them off and hoping one of them isn't too strong and won't force themselves on me. I'm just so tired." Hariel sobbed into his chest.
It took quite a while for Hariel to calm down. After which Duo had promised to always be there for him. They talked over the knews for a few more hours before Hariel had to leave. Duo promised to always be his friend, though he had admitted he needed time to comprehend the information. To learn your best friend was not exactly human was not exactly a small shock. Duo knew also he needed to work through the fact he was not in fact what Hariel needed for a first mate. It was easy enough to guess who was. All Duo could do was stand and support his best friends when they did get together. If they did, though if he had anything to say about it they would.
Duo had known his feelings were more than friendly towards his old friend the second time they met after the park. But if Hee-chan was what Hari needed as first mate then Duo could not interfere. He would rather have his two best friends instead of a miserable lover.
Over dinner Duo was unusually silent. Quatre looked nervously at the other, remembering Hariel's arrival.
"Is everything all right Duo? Your awefully quiet and Hariel was really scared when he came over."
"I'm fine. Hari was just nervous about telling me some stuff and I need to think it over." Duo replied distractedly.
"Is he all right?" Trowa asked.
"He's fine." Duo murmured. The others didn't seem satisfied with that answer, but they subsided. The rest of the meal was eaten in silence.
Ooooooo
Hariel had returned home from speaking to Duo to find they had some guests. His families allies were gathered, holding a meeting with his mother.
"Ah. Hariel. Your back, good." His mother greeted. Her face was drawn into a frown of worry. Beside her Trieze had a comforting arm wrapped protectively around her. His mother handed Hariel a message from Sirius and those who were locked into Azkaban.
They have figured out our charge is no longer within their boarders. They demand the ICW release him into their hands. They were refused, and now they are closing the boarders. Evacuate the allies, their society cannot stand alone for long.
Hariel set the message down and looked to his mother.
"Lord Slytherin and the others have been contacting those they feel should learn what is happening. Many have evacuated, but some were too late."
"The Ministry has banned travel outside their boarders." Scion Black continued.
"Dispite the fact many of the ancient and noble houses disagree with their orders. Fudge has let his position as Minister go to his head." Another of the group commented.
"I don't understand. What do they hope to gain from closing their boarders? They don't contribute that much to the international community for that tactic to work. Especially with so many of the families that do contribute having already left. They are only going to beggar their community." Hariel frowned. He didn't understand his birth lands, and sometimes it saddened him that he couldn't consider the place he was born and the place his father died home. But even after all of this, he didn't think he could ever now. Not after all they had tried doing to him. And now, to hear they were jeopardizing themselves over something so fruitless. He could only hope they could one day learn from their mistakes. Otherwise the British magical community would end within his lifetime. And with this new event he suspected that end to be near.
"They believe they have more standing then they actually do. I'm afraid it is partially our fault with all the hard work we have done in the international circles." Lord Malfoy spoke.
"Do you know what is happening there now that the boarders are closed?"
It turned out the group knew quite a lot. Creatures were revolting. Many had heard of the closure from Lord Riddle before the actual event. Many had left leaving only a small token force behind. The goblins had closed their bank doors and had retreated into the tunnels. British citizens could no longer access their money. And soon businesses were closing and the community was failing.
After the meeting Hariel sat and thought over the information he had learnt. Things were getting bad. It seemed like a war would spring up soon. And all because he was not human. He lay his head in his arms and sighed. His best friend was hurt, and people were forced to leave their homes because of him. War would break out and people and creatures would lose their lives because of him. All he wanted was a family, a mate to look after him, and children he could raise. All he wanted, was to live his life in peace. But if it wasn't the war that was brewing, it was the fact he could not find a mate who would fit into the perammeters his subconscious had set. The one he had found probably wouldn't want anything to do with him, and besides, he really didn't want to put Duo through all that.
Ooooooo
After Hariel visited that last time Duo had gotten a fire in his eyes. Quatre didn't know what exactly was going on, all he knew was that Hariel had been terrified. Quatre had been worried, but Hariel and Duo seemed to have discussed the issues. Duo had been sad, but also determined. And now the braided man focused on whatever he was determined about. Quatre was worried.
He was so worried in fact he gathered the rest and told them what he knew. They agreed to try to get Duo to spill his plans. But Duo seemed oblivious to their attempts. And then Hariel came to visit. And that was when things got complicated.
It all started out like all the other visits. Duo was excited to once again see his old friend. He bounced around the house and was forced to sit in the sitting room. Trowa answered the door. And invited Hariel inside. But Quatre could see something had changed. Or rather, he could feel it. Hariel was upset about something. Not angry, but, depressed was the closest Quatre could come to it. The blonde frowned in worry for the teen. Something had happened to the younger man.
Duo and Hariel had talked, the others giving them space. Then Duo dragged Hariel out to the kitchen and pushed him into a chair.
"Ok, we all need to talk." Duo announced. Hariel seemed resigned over whatever they needed to talk about, he steeled himself and waited in silence as the others gathered around the table.
And then Duo told them about Hariel being Valkierion and all that had happened to the teen. About his father being murdered, all those people wanting him as a sex slave, and then about Hariel coming to Duo and informing him he had found a potential first mate but how there were complecations.
"Who is your potential first mate Hariel?" Quatre asked gently. He could feel the other man tense dispite all the effort he seemed to put into remaining calm.
"Heero."
Oooooooooo
Lily knew something was going on with her son. It was her mother's intuition, it practically screamed that Hariel was going through a rough time. If it wasn't for her intuition she probably wouldn't have noticed anything. Hariel hid the rollercoaster ride his emotions were going through. But you can't fool a mother who's life time ambition is to protect her child. But she also knew she could not be the one to help him.
Hariel was an adult now. Working towards his mastery in healing and looking to start his own family. She could only be there if he wanted her to be. And only from the sidelines. But she knew someone who could have a more direct hand in his life. She could not thank the daieties enough for sending them Liam.
And yet she could not help grieve for the fact her direct role in her sons life was coming to an end. Oh, she knew he would always seek advice from her. But she had been a mother for so long she could only wish he was still young enough to hide behind her presence.
And then she learned that she was pregnant once again. Her heart seemed to sink and rise at the same time. On one hand she truly loved Trieze and the strength he gave her. She knew he wanted a family and he truly did care for her son. He had made that very clear even during the war. He knew she did not agree with his ideas and stance, but he strove to make the relationship work. He did not have to inform her and Hariel on Duo's condition. And yet he had to appease Hariel's worries. But on the otherhand she was nearly fourty years old. Her son was an adult. He was even searching for his own beginning. And their lives were so uncertain. Could she properly raise a child when her eldest was still in danger?
Nonetheless she was pregnant and would soon be having another child. And despite her reservations the extatic look Trieze wore when she told him eased some of the tension. And then shortly after that he proposed to her. She would not have to raise their child out of wedlock. Another knot eased.
Ooooo
Hariel had asked Liam if he could stay with him and his mates for a few days. He had spent hours talking to the five ex-gundam pilots. On the bright side Heero hadn't threatened him as he had Relena. But understandably he asked for time to think over what Hariel had told them. Hariel had agreed and had left soon after. He couldn't remain, afraid his presence would influence the decision. He needed Heero to decide on his own.
When he got home his mother and Triezze told him the news that: one, his mother was pregnant. And two, she and Triezze would be getting married. He was ecstatic for them. His mother needed the happiness she had been missing since his father's death. He was old enough to know that she still loved James, just as much as she loved Triezze. He truly was happy she was beginning a new chapter in her life.
The problem was he could not help feel bereft. He wanted the love his mother had, and wanted a child of his own. Of course he tried to push these feelings away to support her. He didn't want to seem selfish, and he truly was over the moon.
So he had asked and received permission to stay with Liam. He lasted four days before Liam managed to get him to spill all his problems. He knew Liam would probably tel his mother, they often did such things. But this time he could not bring himself to care. Liam of all people would understand his situation the best.
Liam listened to his tale and spoke the right words to get him to continue when he faultered. He held the younger Valkierion and supported him through his tale.
"You are not being selfish for wishing for a family." He finally said after Hariel was finished.
"We all go through that phase. And dispite how it seems Heero may in fact agree to become your dominant. If he doesn't its his loss and you could always find a dominant who will be just as good and willing too. We don't have predetermined mates, remember?"
"I know. I just hope this won't ruin my friendship with Duo.. Liam snorted at that thought.
"Your Duo wouldn't allow it." He laughed.
Hariel had to admit Liam was right. They had talked long into the night about it and Hariel was now confident he could withstand whichever decision Heero made. He pushed the thoughts aside and focused on his apprenticeship. He would give Heero the chance to come up with his decision and would respect the man's wishes.
As if fate was not happy with his life settling down, Ayumu sensei gave him an errand three weeks later. His errand was to speak to Triezze officially. Triezze had been looking for a healer to compliment Doctor Sally Poe. Apparently Triezze wanted to have a business that unified both communities. Surprisingly his mothers allies were all for it, provided there were precautions.
Ayumu sensei wanted Hariel to join so he could get some practical experience. He had even offered to assist part-time, for a time, in case Hariel got way over his head. It was an offer Hariel knew Triezze would not refuse. Ayumu sensei was world renowned and only fools such as those in the British Ministry would turn his experience away.
He entered the large building that looked remarkably like an office building and presented the letter Ayumu Sensei had given to the secretary at the front desk. She hadn't been happy, but had called an agent to lead him up to Triezze's office.
"So your one of the applicants for that mysterious post boss has open?" the agent asked, leaning a little too close for Hariel's comfort. Still, a part of himself knew this man was the closest to Heero's qualities he had come across. Which confused him because he knew the other four could probably destroy this man if they wanted. No one knew what drew a Valkierion's attention. Not even themselves. Still, dispite the qualities his stomach clenched in anxiety.
"I am." He replied, looking at the display, hoping to arrive quickly.
"It's annoying how the boss won't talk about it. He only told Peacecraft and the pilots his plan. As if they can be trusted. They're nothing but a bunch of terrorists who should have been executed at the end of the war. Not given a pardon."
Hariel spent the elevator ride fighting not to deck the agent. It was hard, he hated when people bad mouthed his friends. He repressed a twitch when the man rested his hand on Hariel's back to guide him when the elevator stopped.
""Don't attack the agent. Don't attack the agent. Whatever you do, don't attack the agent."" He chanted. Trying to keep calm as the man both flirted with him and tried to get him to speak about things that were clearly above his clearance.
When they reached Triezze's outter office Hariel handed the secretary the paper he had shown the one downstairs. His hands shook slightly as they longed to pummel his guide. The agent moved even closer when he noticed Trowa, Quatre and Wufei in the room.
"It's those terrorists. Don't worry I'll protect you."
""As if you could take even one on."" Hariel thought.
The door opened behind them and Duo and Heero entered the office. Duo blinked in surprise and opened his mouth, but Triezze's door opened and the man himself stepped out.
"Agent you may return to your duties. Mr. Potter please come in." Hariel slipped quickly past Triezze as the man spoke to the pilots. He sank into the chair across from Triezze's when the man entered and motioned for him too. He couldn't hold the sigh of relief in and Triezze chuckled.
"Are you all right Hariel?"
"I didn't want to miss our meeting for assaulting one of your agents. But I was real close to doing it. He kept getting in my personal space, fished for information on why I was here, and he insulted Duo and the others."
"And I'll bet everything I own it was the insults to the pilots that made you want to attack him."
Hariel blushed and looked down.
"It's also the fact he insulted them and yet he's the second closest to a first dominant my Valkierion will accept. I really don't want him as a mate." He grimaced. Trieze gave a sympathetic smile and accepted the letter Ayumu sensei had sent. He read it over and shook his head in amusement.
"With these terms I really can't say no. Dispite your lack of training you are bringing a mentor who is famous to the facility. And besides, I have no doubt you will be a quick study. You've proven so in the past."
"So You agree?"
"I do. Welcome aboard young Mr. Potter."
After a little more discussion Trieze led him from the room and shook his hand.
"I will see you and your mentor tomorrow then?"
"Of course sir. We look forward to working with you." Hariel replied. Trieze smiled and sent him down with another agent. One who luckily kept his distance and his opinions to himself. He beckoned the five pilots into his office as the young man left, not giving Duo time to speak with him. He wanted to be the one to inform them of the knew events.
End Notes:
I hope you enjoyed and please review on the questions at the top of the chapter.
We're almost to sixty reviews which means another possible prompt. Remember you can send an idea for this story, A Winner's Game, Shukkaku's Shadow or another fic all together. However, if it's the latter I'm not sure how long it will take to post.
