Chap X
He sat. He didn't stare at Fai, because he knew that does not help to tell something. So he just relaxed and glanced around. There were few magazines in the room, but that was it. Even he had few flowers from distant relatives and friends, and stupid little plushie bear from his cousin. But maybe the blond was allergic to flowers. That could explain the lack of stuff. But it was still a bit odd. Fai seemed just the guy who would have been happy to get a plushie or two.
Then a thought hit him, and his eyes narrowed. It was also more than possible that the doctor simply didn't allow anyone to have visit Fai. Maybe deny the nurses to bring the guests gifts to Fai.
"Has anyone tried to visit you here?" he asked, sounding casual but worried about the answer. He know looked at the blond, who looked back at him surprised.
"No. why would anyone come here?" Fai asked back. The answer was worse than he had anticipated and he felt his heart twinge.
"Why wouldn't anyone come?" he asked quietly, now looking astonished into the blue eye. Fai swallowed and looked down, breaking the eye contact.
He waited and finally Fai shrugged, looking back at him defiantly.
"Because they are grieving Yuui. And because the friends I used to have have forgot me long time ago"
he couldn't believe it and he shook his head, eyes wide in disbelief
"How could they just forget you? I don't think even I could do it"
Fai's eye softened and there was a little smile on his lips
"My, thank you. I didn't know I had that strong impression on you" the blond said with a flirtatious tone. He snorted and rolled his eyes.
"Don't try to change the subject" they stared each others for a while, and then Fai leaned back to his pillows and sighed in defeat.
"Because it has been years I have met them. Ashura usually didn't allow friends to come by, and even if Yuui could bring someone over, he would find some task for me so I could not see them too." Fai explained, looking at his hands playing at the end of a blanket. The previously annoyingly cheery voice was now low and quiet, nearly monotone.
He swallowed. He could only imagine Fai's pain. Separation from all the people he had grow up and played with being taken away, and it not even being his fault. He opened his mouth to say something comforting but Fai continued, craning his head and looking out of the rooms window.
"Yuui and I used to play outside when Ashura was at work. It was great..." there was bitter-sweet smile on the blond's lips when he after a silence looked back at him but the eye was burning.
"So. There was always Yuui for them. And I was happy to know that he was doing good."
"Why didn't he help you? Why didn't you tell someone else how you were treated?"
Fai glared him coldly
"Are you stupid? You must have heard too what it's like in foster home or in an orphanage. Why the hell would we want to end up somewhere with a bunch of people we don't know? Ashura was kind. He didn't hit us, gave us food and good clean clothes and nice surrounding to live. Even though he made me switch school, he didn't place me in some crappy place. And he was probably right, if we would have been too close, we would have bothered each other to have a proper life and grow up. So all in all, things were good" Fai stated, stubborn look on his face, but he could read the doubt and plea in the lone eye. Plea not to break his belief, not to take his supporting idealization away.
He sighed and rubbed his eyes.
"The hell..." he muttered to himself. He didn't know what to say. He could see that the blond knew something in the story wasn't right, but apparently the story was the only thing that had made the handling of all the unfairness easier. He lowered his hand and leaned his cheek on it, and leaning the hand on his knee he cocked his head and looked intently at Fai, trying make some real sense into everything he had heard.
Fai looked back at him, brows furrowed and the blue eye looking at him desperately.
"That's not fair" he finally said. The thought being the strongest one he had about the situation. The blond lifted an eyebrow questioningly. He shook his head. "that just doesn't make sense. You to move school, not meeting any of you old pals, nothing."
Fai giggled
"That sounds about right. That is not the first time you said that I don't make sense"
he rolled his eyes straightening his back
"Well, that was just because you came all the way to me just to talk about stuff that didn't matter at all"
Fai smiled and shrugged
"I just thought you might want to know what goes on in the world."
he snorted
"The life of celebrities is not equivalent to the happenings of world."
Fai's eye widened
"It's not? Are you sure?" Fai reached over to touch his forehead. The pale hand had long cool soft fingers, and for some reason the touch made his face heat up. He swatted the hand away irritated and embarrassed and the blond frowned "You don't feel like you are running a fever, but you face is oddly flushed" the comment made him blush more and Fai laughed
"Oh, you are so sweet Kuro-puu" Fai said softly the blue eye glowing warmly. He coughed and tried to get him the upper hand back.
"Are you sure your school is good? It seems like you work on different gears than normal people". That comment wiped the smile and softness away. He felt a bit guilty about it, he didn't think the blond had had many reason to laugh or smile lately.
"I'm tired. Do you mind going back to your room?" he shook his head, not making the slightest movement of going away. Fai sighed and by the sound of it it came from the soul. Fai looked him calmly in the eye "You can come back again. Okay?"
he hesitated. Fai had opened up to him a bit, and it hadn't been so hard to pry it out as he had thought, but he had not heard anything about the incident. And he wanted to know more especially about it. Even though it was very promising that Fai agreed to talk to him again later. But he had to try
"Tell me something about the incident, and then I will leave" the tried to bargain, not letting the blue eye away.
Fai looked desperate and he was sorry about it. But he needed to know. Now. Not tomorrow. Even something to help him understand. Fai tried to look away, but couldn't escape the stare. The blond squirmed. There was a drop of sweat forming on the pale temple, and he knew he was close. But also that Fai was close to breaking down.
"I want to help" he said softly. Fai's eye closed, shut tight and then the blond said barely audible.
"I'm happy no visitors are allowed" the blue eye opened, and it was full of pain. "That's all I'm gonna say" he nodded and stood
"For now." he said. Fai turned his gaze aside and just slightly lifted one of his shoulder and dropping it back down. So maybe. He hoped Fai could talk to him more later. Maybe after a night of sleep Fai would realize that nothing bad had happened even if he told about his issues. So maybe he could tell more. He mentally sighed. It was clear that this meeting had stressed Fai up pretty much. His jaw was set and shoulders stiff. Unaware of it, his good hand moved to softly caress Fai's cheek
"See you later" he said to the surprised blond, whose beautiful blue eye was wide with wonder, and then he turned and walked to the door.
"Bye" Fai said once he opened the door. He glanced over his shoulder, Fai was still sitting there, fingertips pressed to his cheek, innocent wonder in his features. He grinned a little and started his journey back to his own room. Good thing that even if someone would ambush him now, he could just say he got lost after using a wending machine. And he could be lead to his room, he had settled his mind for now. He couldn't see the picture in this puzzle without getting more peaces. But luckily Fai seemed a bit more ready to share them.
He reached his room without bigger disturbance. A nurse asked what he was doing there, but after the explanation just let him go on his way. This seemed a rather crappy hospital, but now he didn't mind about. He just hoped the physiotherapy would be more efficient and better run.
He laid down and fell asleep soon. He felt oddly at peace now. The last thing he thought was the warm glow in the blue eye and the happy airy laughter he had heard. It had been so different from the forced smiled and fake happiness Fai had supported earlier.
I know, we are progressing so slowly! I'm sorry, but this is the way the story wants to come out. I hope I still have managed to keep the level up and you liked :) review please, and thanks for reading!
