Simon pulled up to the house, having gone at least thirty miles over the speed limit the entire way home. He threw the car into park and killed the ignition before jumping out of the car and throwing open Emika's door. Emika was slumped forward, her breaths shallow. "Take Liddy inside please." She requested quietly, her voice hoarse.

"I need to take care of you first, Miss Emika. You are severely injured and might require medical attention." Simon said as he pulled Emika out of the car carefully and carried her into the house.

In the entrance hall, Simon was greeted by Amelia, who was reading through a file of documents, waiting for Emika returned to hear about the night. Amelia saw Emika in Simon's arms, limbs hanging limp in her exhaustion and eyes rolled back.

Simon, always gentle, spoke firmly to Amelia, "Lady Amelia, please go get Liddy from the car. She's asleep. Take her to bed and then come help me with Emika."

Amelia rushed out the door and Simon took Emika to the Infirmary located in the basement, directly across from the training rooms. He set her lightly on one of the cots before running to the opposite end of the room and slamming his fist against the blue Emergency Aide button on the wall, calling for EMS and the family's trusted doctor, Dr. Adrianne Wedel. Simon rushed back over to Emika and Amelia came running into the room.

"She's in bed. Simon, please go fetch Devon, he's skilled in wound treatment and find Larkspur. She's Emika's closest sister and she needs to be in here."

"Of course, Lady Amelia." Simon said, grabbing towels and setting them on the end of Emika's cot, "Afterwards I will await the arrival of the EMS, but first I have to ask something. Nobodies don't generally bleed, do they?"

"No, they do not Simon." Amelia responded softly, beginning to tear away Emika's clothing to better access the wound.

"Then that means-"

"That she's regained her heart." Amelia cut him off, "She's had her heart for awhile I believe. I suspected as much the other night."

"Bet she-"

"Maintained her powers." Amelia cut him off again, "It's never happened before. I cannot say for sure what may have caused it. Rather than her powers fading, they've grown stronger. I believe she is capable of much more than blocking memories now, but I don't understand any of it at the time being. Please, Simon. Find Devon and Larkspur. I will need their help until the EMS arrive."

"Yes, Lady Yamaboshi." Simon nodded and hurried out of the room.

Within moments, Devon and Larkspur ran in, unsure of what was going on. Amelia quickly got them to work cleaning Emika's wound, answering their questions to the best of her ability. When the wound was completely cleaned, Simon walked in with two emergency paramedics and Dr. Wedel.

Everyone was forced to leave the room as the three prepared for an emergency surgery. Shortly before they were locked out, Dr. Wedel pulled Amelia aside to tell her what was wrong with Emika.

"I'm afraid she has a collapsed lung and six broken ribs. When the ribs were struck, a few of them shattered at the point of breakage rather than breaking cleanly. The shattered ribs then punctured her right lung in various spots and caused it to slowly collapse. She has a blood pocket around the heart, though it is unharmed, and the shards will have to be removed and the ribs will be reconstructed. Once everything in repaired, she will need a blood transfusion and will be unconscious for an unknown period of time." Dr. Wedel spoke softly.

"Will she be alright?" Amelia asked, her hands were shaking.

"Everything depends on the surgery. If she survives the surgery, she will recover." Dr. Wedel said, trying to sound reassuring.

"Thank you, Adrianne." Amelia said, as she looked down and walked away.

As Amelia approached Simon, Larkspur and Devon, she looked up and forced a smile. "She will be just fine. I will wait here. I ask that all of you retire for the night." Amelia lied, trying to get the three to calm down enough that they would be able to sleep eventually.

When all three of them left, Amelia stood there, staring at the door of the infirmary. After hours of standing there, unmoving, her knees began to shake. Amelia slumped against the wall across from the door and slid to the floor. She rested her chin on her knees and continued to stare blankly at the door, trying hard to listen for and indication of what was happening inside of the room, but she could not hear anything.

When dawn rolled around, Dr. Wedel emerged from the room looking exhausted. Amelia stood quickly and approached her without saying anything.

Dr. Wedel rubbed her eyes and blinked twice before saying, "She made it. She will make a full recovery."

Amelia smiled and hugged her tightly, "Thank you so much Adrianne. Thank you."

When Dr. Wedel and the paramedics left, Amelia walked into the room quietly. Emika was asleep on the bed, hooked up to an IV. Amelia pulled a chair next to the bed and sat there, holding Emika's hand.
