I own Heather and I have Kate's permission to use her.
(Heather's POV)
It had been a couple of days since we departed from Rivendell. Kate nor I had spoken a word to the boys. They kept trying to talk with us but we stayed close to Thorin and kept our heads down. No talking, no laughing, no jokes. We were on a mission. By this time though the company had noticed our strange behavior and were asking us questions. We had to wave them off continually. Now we were walking through the pouring rain on the side of a mountain and it was miserable.
"Stay together! Kili, Fili, go ahead and try to find somewhere safe for us to stay until the storm passes!" Thorin shouted. They nodded and walked past us. When Kili passed me he grabbed my hand and squeezed it gently. I met his eyes and he looked at me sadly. As they ran ahead I looked to see Kate looking back at me with worry. After a couple more torturous minutes the boys came back.
"There's a cave! Just ahead! It looks clear, we can stay there for the night!" Fili shouted above the storm. With one glance at Kate he turned and began leading the way with Kili. Thunder started rolling across the sky and I grabbed Kate's hand. I was always terrified of thunder. She squeezed my hand and kept walking forward. Then the ground started trembling. I looked up to see that everyone else had stopped walking.
"Stay close to the wall! Don't go over the edge!" Thorin shouted. I quickly pressed myself against the rocky wall and held on. That was when I saw it. A giant boulder was coming straight for me. Jesus. Before it collided though I was thrown out of the way. I fell on the ground and something heavy fell on top of me. I looked up to see Kili.
"What are you…" I started but he hoisted me up and wrapped his arms around me.
"Stay by me… please," he whispered in my ear. I nodded and looked up to see Thorin glaring daggers at me. Whoops.
"MOVE!" I heard another shout. I believe it was Bofur. Within seconds another boulder came crashing into the mountain.
"Where the HELL are all these boulders coming from?!" Kate shouted. Before we could answer I noticed something from the corner of my eye.
"HEY GUYS! I think I know where the boulders are coming from!" I shouted. Their heads all snapped in my direction and I pointed over the ridge of the next mountain.
"Stone giants!" Thorin screamed. Manly.
"Take cover!" Dwalin yelled. Before any of us could move though we started moving… but not in that way. The mountain we were on started moving. I looked up to see what we were standing on before I looked back at Kili terrified. He looked down at me and quirked an eyebrow.
"We're on a stone giant," I whispered.
(Kate's POV)
I turned to see Heather whisper something to Kili. His head snapped up and I followed his direction and saw what it was that had her so terrified. Crap. We were on the leg of a stone giant. That's when this giant, I'm gonna call him Ralph, decided to walk toward the other stone giant. When I turned back I saw Kili and Fili reaching toward each other.
"Kili no!" Fili screamed. My heart broke. He was his brother's protector and now Kili is on his own… oh wait. SHIT!
"Heather!" I screamed. She was behind Kili holding into his coat. Her eyes fell onto mine and she mouthed 'I'm sorry' before Ralph twisted his leg and she and Kili and the rest of the dwarves on that leg were gone. After a couple minutes of constant screaming and hanging on for dear life the stone giants were now locked in a death grip. I turned to see that the other dwarves were now back in sight and looking absolutely terrified. Before I could scream though the other stone giant stumbled forward and his knee made contact with the knee they were standing on. I vaguely heard a scream before I realized it was mine. Fili was holding tightly onto me as I struggled against him. Dead. She couldn't be… oh my God.
We were suddenly thrown off of the knee we were on and onto the actual mountain side. I sat on the edge and cried. Fili and Thorin were huddled together and looked destroyed. I couldn't blame them. Suddenly I heard a yell.
"Kate! Fili! Thorin!"
"Heather?!" I answered back frantically. She appeared from around the corner and I ran up to her and hugged her tightly. When we broke away Fili and Kili were hugging each other tightly. Thorin was watching from afar. Before I could say anything Heather ran up to Thorin and hugged him tightly. He was shocked but hugged her back.
"I'm sorry for everything. I'm glad you're alive," she said. He smiled slightly.
"And I am sorry as well my dear. I'm very glad you're alive," he replied. Suddenly I realized something.
"Bilbo! Where's Bilbo?!" I asked. We all began frantically searching before I spotted him hanging off the edge of the mountain. "There he is!" I shouted. Thorin was the first to move as he jumped down and swung grabbing Bilbo and throwing him up to Kili. Fili and I grabbed onto Thorin and hoisted him up onto the ledge.
"I thought we'd lost our burglar," Dwalin said slapping Bilbo on the back.
"He's been lost ever since he left home. He shouldn't have ever come," Thorin spat. Heather went to say something but I stopped her with my hand and shook my head. We started walking again toward the cave the boys found and Heather stayed next to me.
"We can't fight all his battle for him Heather. We need to focus on why we came," I whispered. She nodded at me slowly and kept walking. We made it to the cave and found some spots to lay down. We fell asleep shortly after, thankful that we were alive to see another day.
