I know it has been a while since I have updated, and I have been really busy with my uni work. This chapter is not going to be a long one but I just thought I should get something up.
Chapter ten:
Adria ran as fast as she could, desperately trying to catch up to the voices in the distance. The thought of her former captor changing his mind about letting her go made her push forward harder, wanting desperately to be with people that she recognised. Adria thought that this might be the only time she would be pleased to see Bellamy Blake. The shouts were getting louder as she pushed herself faster through the trees.
Found you! Adria thought triumphantly her eyes catching the unmistakable flicker of a torch.
Her relief was short lived as she came into the clearing just in time to see a young girl launch herself from the cliffs edge. Adria couldn't believe her eyes!
Bellamy cried out in shock and anger before launching himself at his second in command, bringing his fists down again and again.
"What the hell, Blake" she exclaimed managing to shake off the shock of seeing someone kill themselves. Her eyes met Clarke's and the pair seemed to read one another minds as they both tried to grab hold of Bellamy, in attempt to stop the vicious attack.
"Bellamy, stop! You'll kill him!"
"Get off me!" Bellamy fought broke from their hold and continued his assault "He deserves to die."
To say Adria was confused was an understatement, all she knew was the girl (apparently names Charlotte) was dead and Murphy was somehow involved. What had happened in the hours she had been in the forest?
The girls managed to pry the older boys hands away off of Murphy's battered face again and tightened their grip hoping to keep him at bay this time.
"We don't decide who lives and who dies" Clarke announced "Not down here."
Bellamy was fuming at the blonde. How dare she tell him what he could and couldn't do!
Clarke had been a pain in his ass since they had landed and now here she was again trying to push her rules onto him.
"So help me God, if you say the people have the right to decideā¦"
"No" she cut him off firmly "I was wrong before, okay? You were right" Adria couldn't believe what she was hearing, were Clarke and Bellamy actually see eye to eye on something?
"Sometimes it dangerous to tell people the truth. But if we're gonna survive down here, we can't just live by whatever the hell we want." She told him firmly.
"We need rules."
Bellamy scoffed eyes still locked on the beaten Murphy beneath him "And who makes those rules, huh? You?"
Clarke was quick to reply "For now, we make the rules. Okay?" Adria wanted to point out the fact that she wasn't okay with the idea of the pair of them making up laws.
Not that she thought the group of delinquents needs some sort of authority but Clarke and Bellamy working together just didn't seem right. Didn't make sense.
They barely agreed on anything the other said, and now they were planning on running the camp together.
This is going to be a disaster.
"You two can barely agree on anything!" Adria exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air, releasing her hold on the older boy.
All eyes in the clearing shifted in her direction, as if now everyone was just registering the fact that she was indeed there.
She continued "What are you going to do when neither of you can agree, huh?" that was a good question, what if Bellamy and Clarke disagreed on something that would affect the entire group and couldn't come to an agreement? Adria could tell you if that happened which it likely would they would all be doomed.
All was silent for a moment as the two now agreeing 'leaders' contemplated Adria's words. Clarke could see where the brunette was coming from, it was rare for her and Bellamy to agree on anything.
"We need a middle man" she announced she confused faces she continued "Someone to have the final say when we can't agree on something." Adria had to admit that didn't sound like such a bad idea, but the question was who could be trusted not to be swayed in their decision by friendship (or in Bellamy's case loyalty)?
"Fine" Bellamy agreed reluctantly, keen to be done with the discussion so he could deal with Murphy. "We'll deal with that later, now we deal with him" he indicated to the bleeding boy.
Bellamy took hold of Murphy's collar and yanked him roughly to his feet "We gonna let him get away with this?" Adria couldn't help but feel slightly sorry for the former second in command, not knowing what he had done to deserve such treatment. Clarke didn't know what to say, she agreed the Murphy couldn't get away with what he had done but they couldn't just kill him.
"No!" she said finally coming up with what she believed was a suitable punishment "We banish him."
"What?" Adria couldn't help but speak out.
She knew as well as the others that sending Murphy out into the forest by himself would surely cause his death. As far as Adria knew the boy had no knowledge of how to survive, and would probably die of starvation.
Of course there was also the grounders. If starvation didn't kill him then the grounders almost certainly would. Not to mention her captor was still out there, he could even be watching them at this very moment. The thought made her shudder as her eyes scanned the surrounding tree line.
"You send him out there and you might as well just kill him yourself!" Bellamy growled in anger shaking Murphy roughly, his eyes however were narrowed and focused on Adria.
Adria crossed her arms across her chest, her way of telling Bellamy she wasn't intimidated. That was a lie, for the first time since their landing Adria felt threatened by the older boy.
Clarke seeing the tension stepped in-between them.
"There is no other option" she tried to convince the other girl, knowing that Bellamy wouldn't allow Murphy to come back to camp.
Not waiting for any more confirmation Bellamy roughly shook the beaten boy to reclaim his attention " If I catch you near camp, we'll be back here" he warned referring to the blooded state of Murphy.
"Understand?" Murphy nodded weakly, fighting to keep his eyes open.
Bellamy dropped the beaten boy to the ground and stepped over his unmoving form. Clarke shot him a glare but otherwise did nothing to correct his rough treatment of the other boy.
"As for the four of you" Bellamy addressed those whom had followed Murphy "you can come back and follow me, or go off with him and die" without another word he pushed passed them and headed back into the forest, heading in the direction of the dropship.
Not waiting a beat the four other boys sent Murphy one last look before turning and following their leader.
