Chapter 9: Temple Terrors
We followed Fi to the mouth of a small cave but the problem was that in order to get there we had to cross a thin rope. I fail at walking on the sidewalk most of the time let alone walking across something less than 2 feet thick. Link looked determined to get across but before he could get the chance to cross I pulled him back. "Link… I, ummm, am not so sure about walking across this without any type of support." Link smiled at me, "That's fine, I can go in and you'll wait here. I don't see any other entrance to the cave."
"Are you serious? You're fine with leaving me here indefinitely?"
"Andromeda, Zelda is so close. I need to help her, you of all people should know her importance to me."
Fi jumped out of the sword and flew to the entrance, "Master, I have detected Zelda's aura emanating from within this structure."
"THANKS A LOT FI." I yelled sarcastically. Link looked conflicted but soon he made his choice and took a step on the rope and soon after he was on the other side. I tried to not look angry but I knew he could tell anyway, I needed to get into the temple to get the necklace. Frustrated I threw my arms up and noticed a coiled up vine on the tree above me. Link turned back and yelled his apologizes but I called him back.
"Throw me your slingshot!"
"What on earth do you need it for?"
"Just throw it over!"
With a small grunt Link threw the slingshot and it missed my head by a centimeter at best. Still stunned I grabbed the slingshot and looked for a small nut nearby. On the first try the door of the temple and on the second try I hit a small gem that was on top of the temple. On the fourth try I had hit the branch down and was swinging towards the temple. I realized too late that the vine was still too high for me to jump off of but Link lent me a hand.
"Jump into my arms!"
"I don't want to break you." I said casually dangling from the vine.
"Would you rather break your legs?"
"Good point... Bombs ahoy!" I let go of the vine and thankfully landed in Link's arms. Ahem, when I said 'thankfully landed in Link's arms' I mean 'I'm glad I didn't break a leg'... nothing more and nothing less. Fi flew inside the temple and before I could follow Link grabbed my arm. "I'm sorry about all of that but…" I put my finger on his lip to calm him down, "I know that Zelda is your first priority, I wasn't supposed to tag long anyway. I'm a liability, I get it." I didn't mean to sound so hurt but in all honesty I was. I broke from his grasp and walked inside of the temple. Link followed soon after and I heard another chime but I knew better than to bring it up. "Master I can no longer use the dowsing ability to locate Zelda." Link was only half listening as he was scoping out the beginning of the temple.
Without another word Link ran down the spiral path and cut the trees and webs before moving on. I was thankful for Link's ability to clear a path of enemies before I could even unsheathe my sword. When I finally caught up to Link he was climbing a vine ledge but he failed to notice the Deku Baba at the top of the wall. "Link! Watch out! There's a Deku Baba at the top!" He clearly didn't hear me at the rate that he was climbing at, he was almost within range of the Deku Baba. I thankfully didn't return the slingshot and I managed to get it on the first try (achievement unlocked)! As it fell to its inevitable death Link jumped to side as the Deku Baba's carcass almost knocked him off.
Link reached the top and helped me up, "I didn't see the enemy there, thank you. I owe you." I waved him off with a smile because I was out of breath from climbing the ledge, I didn't know how Link wasn't tired. I remember it use to take a small run for his stamina to run out, luckily that wasn't an issue. We reached a door on the left of the ledge and Link struck a cluster of floating pink diamonds and the door opened. We headed to the next room and I really admired Link's speed, he could clear this area faster than any speed run that I had ever seen. "Link, are you sure we shouldn't just scope things out? I mean we'll be a lot safer if we have an idea of what to do before acting on it."
"Yeah yeah, you work on that. I'm not one for admiring the scenery."
I scoffed, "That's not true and you know you love a good adventure."
"This isn't an adventure, it's a rescue mission." He said as he destroyed the Deku Baba that had just emerged.
There was a room below us with a locked door and Link looked a bit puzzled, "Okay, what do we do now?"
I looked for the eye that was supposed to be the key to opening the door and soon enough I had found it, it wasn't above the door as it should've been but it was on the floor below us. I tapped Links' shoulder and pointed to the eye. "See that? It's following your every move, we need to confuse it."
"How? It looks like a decoration piece to me."
"Sometimes you need to look at the bigger picture." I moved his sword and as expected the eye followed his movement. "See?"
Link looked surprised as the eye followed his every move, eventually it gave up and instead of the eye turning red it started to bleed. Link shrugged it off and headed toward the newly opened door. Well that wasn't supposed to happen! This is supposed to be a game for children! There is no gore involved… I snapped out of my thoughts and remembered the conversation I had with the Goddesses, this is reality and not a game. I need to snap back into that mentality. I jumped down the ledge and headed towards Link but the door shut in front of me. "No no no no!" I pounded on the door but nothing happened, "LINK!"
Soon after I heard the sound of something emerging and a giant Eye Plant was towering over me. "WHAT THE FUCK." I screamed as I pounded on the door, "LINK! HELP ME!" I turned around just in time to see a huge wad of gunk hurtling towards me at an alarming rate. I jumped out of the way and it hit the door with a huge thud. "I THOUGHT YOU WERE A THING IN PHANTOM HOURGLASS." It quickly turned towards me and sent another wad of gunk and I barely missed it. The base of the Eye Plant was the bleeding eye that Link should have destroyed. To my dismay the floor was covered with blood and it was increasing.
I pulled out the slingshot yet again and aimed for its eye. I realized that I didn't have any more Deku seeds and I was beginning to freak out. I dodged yet another attack but not with the same fines as the last two, I was knocked to the floor and the slingshot skidded away from my hands. I pulled out my sword in an attempt to save my life but it was too heavy to lift. "ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!" I ended up abandoning my sword and went searching for the slingshot in the pool of blood that was now slowly reaching my knees.
In matter of moments I found the slingshot and distracted with happiness I failed to notice yet another attack from the Eye Monster. I was thrown off the ground and was pinned on the wall by the wad of gunk. I had assumed that this green material was acidic but it was just a very strong adhesive. My legs were dangling but I could soon feel the blood at the tip of my feet. If I didn't get out of this soon I knew I would drown in a couple of minutes. My hair was stuck to the adhesive but if I pulled hard enough I think I could make a small amount come off. The adhesive was too strong to pull on its own but my hair gave me a little bit of leverage.
My right hand was free so I pulled my hair will all of my might and soon enough there was a wad of my hair and the adhesive, I placed the slingshot in front of my mouth and aimed straight for its eye. I pulled my head back and opened my mouth and prayed for the best. Seconds later I heard the shriek of the Eye Monster as it exploded. The base of the Eye Monster gave way as the blood drained out of the room. I sighed in relief as the adhesive began to disintegrate. I dropped to the ground and I stayed there for a couple of minutes until I saw a small purple light above me. I looked up to see a black necklace with a small purple gem at the end.
I remembered the conversation I had with the Goddesses, "Andromeda you are our amethyst, rare and precious, and without you we could not do this. The future of our realm depends on it."
I smirked, "You sneaky bastards."
I put on the necklace and the door opened once again. I saw Link on the other side hitting the door with his sword until it opened. He quickly ran towards me and pulled me up. "Andromeda, I am so sorry, are you alright? I should have been here to protect you, I promise to stay with you at all times."
I smiled, "Thanks."
"Are you hurt? You're covered in blood, what happened in here?"
"Oh a monster came out of nowhere, I killed it. The rest is history."
He pulled me in for a hug, "I don't know what I would have done if something happened to you. When we get out I'm going to teach you how to use your sword but first things first, you should change."
I nodded sheepishly, "You go on ahead and I'll catch up."
"Andromeda, did you hear what I said? I'm not leaving you behind."
"That's nice."
"Andromeda?"
I could barely hear Link's voice anymore as my vision started to blur. "Link I can't see anymore."
"Stay with me... An… Safe..ty!"
I gave into the darkness as I fell into unconsciousness.
OOOOOOOOO. SHANP. Things are getting serious, I'm trying to stay true to the detail with my story but I have a real problem with detail.
