'NaaaAAAaaaRruuutoooo!'

I rolled over to see Menma staring at me with a big grin. His boyish hair was peeking out of his shirt that he tied to his head. He had a walking stick in his hand and some berries in the other. His skin a tan color from being out in the sun all day. His cheeks a hint of red, and sweat.

'I found these, want some?'

I sat up with a huff in my make shift bed of leaves, shielding my eyes from the blaring sun.

'Did you try some?'

'I wanted you to try 'em first so I know they aren't poisonous. Yes! BAKA I tried them here.'

I ate a few, they were quite delicious but I knew I wanted some meat soon, and probably Menma too. Food had been scarce lately. I got up to stretch.

'How's your leg?'

'It's, uh. Healing.' Menma looked at his leg turning it to and fro, I had shredded my shirt to wrap his knee, but his wolf blood should be healing it sooner or later. 'I can still walk on it and what not, so im okay! Now I can start helping you catch food.'

Menma and I walked along the river looking for fresh meat.

'Aha!' I said pointing at a fish jumping in. I completely missed slipping into the river.

"HAHAHA!" Menma started laughing wiping away fake tears.

"It get's me everytime!" 'It gets my everytime!' he said twice, once out loud and another time in my head.

I cringed, 'Menma it's quite annoying hearing an echo you baka.' I picked up a nearby rock and threw it at him. He ducked to dodge it and looked at where it crashed. He whipped his head back to scowl at me.

'hey that was mean! And sorry it's kind of hard to control sometimes. But come on you would've laughed too if it was me! that was just too funny'

I let out a snicker, 'yeah okay maybe.' I got up shaking my hair from water. 'Maybe I should stick to catching land food.'

'Aw man no seafood tonight.' Menma whined

'Well I don't really know how to catch fish' I stepped out of the river and stripped from my clothes. I got down on all fours looking for a scent.

'Well maybe I can just use my stick and make a spear thingy.'

'Yeah okay, you do that ill look for rabbits' I licked my lips and dashed off transforming into a wolf.

Later that evening Menma and I sat under a tree eating raw meat.

'No luck huh?'

'no, they make it look so easy in the movies.' He pouted

I snorted, 'I'll say. Ready for bed?'

'Yeah… are you going to go to sleep this time?'

I got up to clean my hands in the river. The blood disappearing as if it was never there. I stared at my hands opening and closing them. I shrugged.

'I don't know.'

'Well you should, I can take look out if you want?'

I shook my head, 'it's okay Menma, just get some rest' I stood up making my way back to him and transformed into a wolf. He scooted next to me resting his head on my back. A couple minutes went by of silence. The sun had disappeared and the moon had taken its place.

'Naruto'

'…hm'

'Is… this . Is his how we are going to live forever?'

'….I don't know.'

He shifted to stare at the night sky.

'Look.' He pointed at one of the shooting stars.

'That was fast.'

'Dad said when he was young he was so fast they called him the yellow flash.'

I chuckled, 'Yeah dad was pretty fast. I could never beat him in a race.'

'I think you will get really fast. Sometimes I wish I could be a wolf.' He sighed putting his hands behind his head. 'How does it feel to transform?'

'Sometimes it's uncomfortable. Like if I don't want to transform and I try to stop it… it kind of hurts.'

'Oh. I'm sorry. Why don't you just…. Transform then?' he asked looking at me.

'Because then I won't have much control when I get too angry. It's like, im not me anymore. And when I come back bad things usually happen. I wish I wasn't like this, you are lucky. You get the good parts of being a wolf while I have the bad. Sometimes it's just not fair.' I rested my head on my paws.

"OW!" Menma had pulled my ears. "THAT HURT BAKA!"

Menma started laughing. 'Will you relax. You are super strong and super fast. You can even heal much quicker than me. You can hear further and you can survive longer. You are really cool you baka. I don't think you should be afraid of that. And if you need help with control, then im here to help you all the way.'

Menma stood up pointing to himself.

"I'll make sure you are happy alright? So that way you don't have to blow up and get out of control! Even on the full moons. Mom and dad…aren't here anymore so I will have to control you when you lose control. That's it, I can protect you too Naruto. So, don't worry, Believe it!" Menma grinned holding up his hand.

"High five! Oh wait. PAW FIVE"

I started laughing, howling into the air.

'That's so corny it's funny.'

Menma sat back down chuckling.

'Yeah… so don't worry Naruto. I'm here too, we will survive together.' He smiled widely at me, a twinkle in his blue eyes. I gave him a sheepish grin.

'Thanks, Menma.'

A couple of days went by of Menma and I wondering the forest catching a little bit of food and making somewhat of a living. We had clothes and other supplies that mom had given us just for basic use. I didn't want to make a fire because I was afraid someone would see it.

'Menma! Menma where are you?!' I was looking for Menma by the river. He said that he would try his spear but he was nowhere to be seen.

'Where are you, baka…' I was starting to get nervous so I got down and sniffed his scent out.

'Naruto…Be quiet. They are here.'

'The military people?'

'Yes. I already destroyed the camp we must relocate again. Meet you by the waterfall'

I ran towards the waterfall in a nervous panic. Sniffing the air I caught scent of the foul smell of the motor vehicle. I quickly found Menma in a bush.

'If we go any further we will be too close to town.'

'Maybe we can circle around and go the other way?'

'NO time we gotta go they are getting closer'

Menma and I rushed through the trees and hid as much as possible. We were getting closer to town. The foul smell was really strong.

'We have to hide for a while Menma they are way too close for my liking.'

'But there isn't much food over here…'

'I know I am sorry'

Menma and I made it to a fence where we saw a park. Clouds were looming over us, insuring rain was coming.

'Come on Menma' Menma and I made our way to the dome shape rock at the playground, hiding inside. I could hear the hum of vehicles all around. I didn't like town too much, it was too loud and had too many smells.

Menma and I sighed as it started raining. I stared at Menma in defeat. He was practically skin and bones. The rabbits and small animals I was catching was not doing any of us good.

'Im sorry Menma'

'Don't worry Naruto it's okay.' He smiled a sad smile. We sat on opposite sides of the dome waiting for the rain to go away. Menma played in the dirt drawing, While I had my head in my hands.

After a while the rain had finally died.

'I will go out and try to find some food.'

'Let me go with you.'

' No I don't want you too close to the military if they are still out there. I can dodge them more easily.'

'Well I don't want to stay here im in town what if someone sees me?'

'Just hide here, and wait for me ill be back real quick'

'Are you doing this because I accidently let that rabbit go? I wont let it happen again-'

'No it's not that It's just easier when I don't have to worry about you'

'Worry about me? Is that how you feel? Someone you have to worry about? I can help too Naruto let me help.'

I made my way out of the dome, done talking about the subject. I don't want the military to find Menma but we were hungry. I would risk my life way before risking Menma's.

'No menma please.' I ended hoping the fence. 'I will be back okay? Just stay here.'

Menma pouted and kicked a rock, 'Whatever'

I continued sniffing out any scent I could find but with no luck. The rain had washed all the scents away. I was starting to get irritated growling lowly. I squatted pulling at my hair gently,

"come on Naruto you gotta find something for you and menma" I whispered. But it was pointless trying to find food close to the city. It was starting to get dark so I begrudgingly made my way back to the park to find Menma missing. Not again! Where was he this time I told him to wait here !

'MENMA!' I began to get nervous again. I began to search everywhere around the area, 'Menma !' I began to run down the steps towards the town, 'MENMAAA' but I couldn't find him. My heart was racing, Had the military found their spot? I began to freak out even more. Too much time had pass. Where was he? I searched for him in the dark cold night but couldn't find him. I finally returned back to the park in defeat, there were too many smells in the city for me to focus on his scent. I put my hands on my knees, about to start crying.

'What's wrong?' Menma asked

'Where are you!?' I jerked up looking around.

'I went to get some food.'

I saw Menma running to the park with some food in his hands.

'I found some food! In the trash! can you believe someone just threw this away.'

I growled with tears threatening to fall.

"You baka! I thought something happened to you! I thought they took you! Why did you go into town you know it's dangerous!" I yelled at him furiously, my body twitching oddly.

"Naruto? Why are you mad I- I was just hungry." He tried to hand me a cinnamon bun, but I slapped it out his hand too angry.

"Hungry! You could've gotten killed ! Im supposed to protect you! mom told me to protect you!"

"Naruto… im not weak! Stop making me seem helpless I can protect myself" he growled picking up the food

"YEAH? Well that's what mom and dad thought and look where they are!"

Menma gasped. Stepping back as if I pushed him

"You are too care free ! Being care free is only going to get you killed! Just like how you ran off exploring! It's your fault the military found us." I said snarling. My hands were twitching awkwardly and my fingers were contorting oddly. I bit my lip, blood was oozing from the wound. I was looking down trying to control my anger. I wasn't trying to take out my anger on menma, I was just really scared something had happened to him.

"Yeah.. is that how you feel? Well if you weren't born we would still be in konoha! It's your fault we had to move out here because you are more wolf than human! I could've stayed! I was more human! I wouldn't have caused any harm!" Menma said throwing his hands up exaggeratingly.

I snapped my head up."LIAR!" I growled

"It's true! I heard them arguing about it! We would have been safer back where we were born! IT WAS YOUR FAULT MOM AND DAD ARE GONE BECAUSE IT WAS YOUR FAULT WE MOVED OUT HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. SO ITS BECAUSE OF YOU! I- I could've lived a normal life and mom and dad could've still been here!" Menma sniffled, wiping tears away.

My body was trembling at this point, " S-stop! Your LYiNg!' my voice came out contorted, tears were falling frealy now. I crouched to the ground trying to stop myself from transforming into a wolf.

Menma looked worried " Naruto ? Are you okay?" He stepped forward reaching for me," Hey Naruto I am sorry I didn't m-mean to. Im so sorry Naruto I was just really mad and hungr-"

"GET AWAY FROM ME!" I gurgled out I flung at him sending him flying, the food he found scattered on the ground.

He looked at me with the most hurt filled eyes I had ever seen. He held his arm in pain.

"I-IM- Sorry- Im-SO-soorry" I sobbed, I got up and ran not knowing where I was going. Just kept running as far as I could, away from Menma. My body trembling all over, a heat spreading all over my body that burned painfully.

"NARUTO!" I heard in the night 'NARUTO! STOP RUNNING IM SORRY!' I heard in my mind, but it was far in my mind. I couldn't focus. I looked up to see it was a full moon. Peering in the sky. Then my vision was black.

The next time I woke up I was covered in blood in the dome rock, I must have returned. Menma was crying over me apologizing repeatedly. I wasn't sure who's blood was on me but I was sure it wasn't Menma's, or mine.

I Had tears in my eyes probably this entire chapter, I am sorry for the water works lol.
