Chapter 10: Accused of Betrayal and a Deal for Life

Jessica's Pov

"No! You're not dead! You can't be!" I screamed at him as I pounded on his chest. I wouldn't stop until he came back to me. I almost lost him once today and I refuse to lose him now.

"C'mon! Breath god damnit!" I pounded harder and harder but nothing was working. And then I stopped suddenly, I was too caught up that I didn't realize we had something in this very room that could save him life.

"Lucy give me your cordial, please"

I reached my hand out to hers, where the elixir that would bring him back lay. And as I was about to grab it someone took it out of her hands. It was Peter.

"Peter what are you doing?! Give it to Jessica so she can save Chad!" Lucy yelled at him. I smiled at her greatfully. I knew she was skeptical of Chad and I being together but she knew exactly how much I cared for him.

"No"

"What?! Why?!" I exclaimed.

"He has done good working helping bring my siblings and I back together but you need to learn that people you care about will die for. You need to learn to accept it and let it go"

I hated it when he talked like that, because he was right. But there is a chance I can save him and he knows that. There is something else, something deeper meaning that he isn't sharing.

"What's the real reason Peter? Why do you want Chad to die?"

"Because I don't want to see you with another man when we are together" I knew that he would bring that up but I keep telling him the same thing over and over again.

"Peter I keep telling you what we had in Narnia doesn't exist here. According to my world none of that ever happened"

"What happened in Narnia?" a voice behind me spoke. I swirled around to see Chad standing up while leaning on Susan for support. Next to him on his other side was Lucy holding her cordial! She was always the fastest of the four.

"Nothing that concerns you" Peter sneered.

"Whatever involves Jessica involves me your majesty" he said with a mocking bow. Peter was about to walk over and mostly likely try to kill him when I stopped him.

"Peter it does concern him. We're together now" I spoke quietly. He got outraged just like I thought he would. Peter never liked the fact that in this world we weren't together and I believed that secretly he would always hate me because we never got back together.

"So this must be the infamous Chad you've told us so much about. Well, if you care about him as much as you say you do then you should tell him about us" he said never taking his eyes off me.

"Jessica what is he talking about?"

I didn't turn back around, I couldn't look him in the eye when I told him. I took a deep breath and let the words pour out of me.

"Peter and I were married"

Chad's Pov

I felt my heart stop. The girl that I care for already belongs to another and she didn't tell me this before?

"How could you betray me like that? We kissed and you neglected to say you were married? Tell me why"

"Because I didn't think it mattered. As soon as we both stepped through Narnia together we were broken up according to our laws" She told me and part of my anger melted away. I could see why she didn't tell me, their marriage isn't relevant here. But there are still some things I wanted to know.

"Why didn't you remarry?"

"Because I knew it wouldn't last. Once Peter returned to Narnia our marriage would become void because the kings and queens are not allowed to be married to someone living in our world while they are in their own world"

"Is that the only reason?"

"...yes" I heard the slight hesitation. There was something she wasn't telling me and I already knew what it was.

"You're still in love with him"

"He was my husband Chad of course I still love him, just not as much as I use to. Once he came back into our world he changed and I didn't think it was a improvement"

"You still love him though. How can you stand there and say you want both of us. You've betrayed me and I can't forgive you for your lies. Whatever I thought we had is gone"

No sooner after I said that Miraz came back in. Edmund and Peter shielded their sisters while Jasmine stood close to me. And Jessica, she didn't move at all. She stood there like stone, staring ahead at Miraz.

"I've come with a chance to save your lives, if you'll agree to hear my offer" he spoke to the Pevensies but he was looking at Jessica the whole time.

"What's your offer?" Peter spoke up.

"A duel and that is all I will say until the fighters are picked and I will be choosing one of them" he smiled and rubbed him hands together. He pointed straight ahead at Jessica.

"You will be fighting. Pick your opponent from this room. I will give you some time to make your decision" He made to leave but he was stopped by her voice

"I choose you Miraz. I want to fight you" he smiled wickedly, like he knew that she would pick him.

"Very well. Now what do you want if you win?"

I looked over at her and I could see in her eyes that she was thinking this over very carefully.

"If I win I want you to take all of your men back to Narnia where you will go to King Caspian and face the punishment for your crimes, whether it be banishment or death"

"I accept your terms. Now if I win I will still leave with all my men but you come back with me and join with me forever, where I will be your lord and master. Do you understand what this means your highness?"

"Yes I do and I accept your terms"

"What do you mean by join with me forever?" Peter asked.

"It means that I will have to marry him" she said looking down at the ground. Peter ran at Miraz but Edmund and Susan held him back or tried to as he violently struggled in their arms.

"No! In Narnia you are still my wife and as High King I refuse to give you away!"

"You have no choice!" Miraz exclaimed "When I win our duel Jessica will return with me and tell the people that you all were killed. And as High Queen it is her duty to protect the kingdom, so she will tell Caspian that in order to keep the peace between us she will marry me"

"Caspian will never fall for that! He will know that she is lying!" Susan told him.

"Not if I order her to kill him he won't" Miraz said evily.

"You wouldn't dare!" Susan screamed and, as Peter did, tried to run at Miraz but was held back by her brothers.

"I would dare Queen Susan and Jessica would do it gladly"

"No she wouldn't. Jessica hates to kill people good or bad" Edmund said. I looked over at her face and it was the saddest sight i've ever seen.

"Yes I would Ed. I wouldn't have a choice. If I lose this fight i'll become his slave for the rest of my life"

"That's correct. Now I will let you say your goodbye's before we begin" and with that he walked out of the room, leaving us in silence.

Jessica did not speak any words when she said her goodbye's. All she was hug Jasmine, Lucy and Susan, kiss Edmund on the cheek and hug and kiss Peter's forehead while whispering something into his ear. I know that's speaking but those words were only meant for Peter, a final declaration or maybe a finale wish.

Jessica did not come say goodbye to me. When she walked by me all she did was look and me and walk out the door.

I only wish I knew that the next time she would speak would be while she was fighting for her life.
