Chapter 9
In one of many large chambers that made up part of the cloud palace, on a too large for its own right pure white fur mattress, sat the amused current Lady of the Western Lands in all her royal gracefulness, looking at her only son, whom, as she elegantly put it, was on one of his period.
Too bad he was not squirming. What a shame, he could even pass for a female…
One of his brows kept twitching from time to time, his lips pressed against each other too tight the line they had already formed were getting thinner. She could distinctly even heard the faintest noise of his gritting fangs.
He was on edge.
"Is it alright for you to lounging around here now, Sesshoumaru?" She conversed pleasantly, noticing the slightest tense on his shoulders or the seemingly impossible more tightened of his jaw as he sat across from her, his grip on the scroll in one of his hand hardened causing more crumples to appear from where his claws had dug in too deep it was a surprise the thing had not got pierced through yet.
"And pray tell, whose fault was this that I have to lounge around here now, Mother?" He hissed, still keeping his eyes on the contents of the scroll he was reading at.
And ignored her as best as he could. Which was a constant epic failed on his part.
She sighed dramatically. His brow twitched again. She tentatively raised one of her sleeve to her suspicious suddenly moisture eye as she looked away from him, and sniffed. His headache was making its grand comeback, and faster than his best battle speed.
"After all these years away from your own mother," She drawled with a voice alerted anyone else not him that she could break into tears at any moment now, "Finally you are back to me and instead of entertaining your old age mother, who was so lonely since you ran away from home," She paused and gave a long sigh, glanced at him in the corner of her eyes to catch his brow twitching again, "You buried yourself in what you should have been doing as the Lord you are. And neglected me." She emphasized, "Mother is so heartbroken." A lone tear ran down her smooth pale cheek and disappeared in her awaiting sleeve.
A low grow worked its way passed his lips as his eyes narrowed more.
"To the world that has absolute no knowledge about what is going on here, you are right when you put it that way." He gritted out, "But," He torn his eyes from the same words he had been looking at for a while now and unable to focus on deciding which one he wanted to kill more, time-wise, the fools who wrote this god forsaken scroll or the devil materialization itself currently sat in front of him. "I am entertaining you." That much he could say, and made no retort to the rest of her accusations, because he had none and making false excuses would be pathetic. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath and exhaled slowly to cool down his head. It was not that he was angry, no, he was beyond that point long ago. This was borderline madness. She managed to rile him and strike guilt, yes, guilt, in him at the same time. Some divine must have made a heavy mistake in her creation, she was a fox in dog clothing!
But that was not the reason he had been on edge. No. He felt restless ever since the beginning of this day for no reason that he could think of. And he did not like this feeling.
He knew he was forgetting something but he could not remember what it was and, why it was a so important something that he had this sudden urge to do something, that he too had no idea what was it that he wanted to do. And he was on edge.
"Sesshoumaru."
Her voice called his name brought his attention back to her, and he noticed she had dropped the act while his thought had wandered to nowhere in particular and she was sitting there looking at him as if she was expecting something from him, again. It even riled him more that she knew what it was.
Finally she broke their gaze and sighed, she reached out to place her hand on his, that till abused the scroll mercilessly, object or not. Slowly her soft but lethal fingers brushed his one by one, worked their way around until he relaxed his grips enough so to let her pry the sorry scroll away and settled it aside. When she looked at him again, a fleeting confusion flashed in his eyes got caught in her ancient observant.
Those same fingers found the same of his again, this time wounded together as she leaned closer to him, her unoccupied hand caressed his cheek, and her thumb trailed his crimson demon marking as she slightly tilted her head in a questioning manner. He pulled her against him as he leaned back on the numerous fur pillows positioned behind his back, let her head pressed on his chest, his remaining hand covered hers till caressing him. He gently settled his chin on the top of her forehead and he closed his eyes again, "I don't know." He admitted, conveyed to her more than enough what he knew about his own dilemma.
"Why don't you go find out?" She asked, looked up to search for his eyes again, which he met hers halfway as he turned his gaze down.
"I don't know where to start." He turned away and closed his eyes again. "I don't like the way I am feeling."
"Do you hate it?" She inquired, her voice softened so did her facial expression as she watched the change in him, one he did not even aware of himself.
He stayed silent for a while, at last when he opened his eyes, searched for hers, a truthful "No." answered her question.
The corner of her lips turned up slightly, her eyes danced with the light that revived a strange sense of nostalgic in him. But his effort to find any deeper in his memory to remember the last time he saw her smile this way was cut short at her next words, not because the suddenness of it but because everything made sense to him again.
"It has been a month since the night you brought him here."
A groan torn through his throat as unconsciousness left him, leaving in its wake an unknown heaviness that he could not interpreted. But his head was throbbing in pain and he couldn't move a limb because a familiar weight was settled down on him, enough to make him immobile until that weight decided to lift itself off his body on its own.
"Care to tell me why we are like this in the middle of nowhere again?" He grumbled snappishly with his eyes still closed, ignored the strange feeling that was always there in his stomach whenever he could feel the present of the other.
He felt a huff of hot air brushed again the bare skin above his neckline as a familiar "Hn" reached his ears, he was close to roll his eyes when a sudden sensation stopped him in the act, the familiar sensation of tongue against a stinging wound from several cuts on his delicate neck. A hiss left him at one particular lick when the other applied more pressure on a more serious cut. That stung!
"Your nature healing is getting worse." Was the comment threw nonchalantly at him when the other drew back to check him all over again for any unattended wound.
"Sorry for being a hanyou." He snapped moodily, turned his head away when he opened his eyes, needed not to look at his brother's eyes to see the obvious disgust so ever present there.
A claw hand entered his vision and settled on the side of his cheek, that was pressed against the fluffy fur of Sesshoumaru that he was aware of the moment he had looked away from his brother, to turn his head back, forced him to look at Sesshoumaru, especially his eyes.
"I was not meant to make you decoded what I said that way." This time the elder one of the two spoke with a certain softness in his voice and his eyes, Inuyasha realized, was absented of the disgust he had accused the other earlier, in fact, it was never been there at all.
And this made the younger one's eyes widened and searching frantically for the truth that was laying before him like the daylight. "What?" Was all he could utter in his daze.
"You have been receiving treatments from your human companions for a while, it was effective on their wounds, so did yours," Sesshoumaru placed his forefinger on Inuyasha's lips to halt what the younger was about to say, when he was certain Inuyasha wouldn't want to interrupt him anymore, the forefinger was replaced by his thumb as he trailed the outline of Inuyasha's lower lip, "But," He slightly tilted his head, "The part of you that inherited demonic heritage was made, at some level to work the same, or better than most of the human's way to speed up the healing process that was inflicted on your person by using various kinds of herbals, or even poisons."
Inuyasha's brows furrowed and he wrinkled his nose, obviously thinking about it, "I told them it would heal in no time."
"They wouldn't understand." Sesshoumaru said, apparently pleased at his work on the almost completely healed wounds, undoubtedly caused by his own claws and whips on his younger brother, which now were no more than several faint pinkish soft lines here and there on Inuyasha's flesh.
"I would say the same to you too." Inuyasha stared blankly at the elder.
"I want these healed before sunset." Sesshoumaru looked up at the setting sun with a careful guarded expression that he almost let it slip out.
An intelligent "Huh?" was his reply as Inuyasha too, looked up at the sky in confusion, as if it was all he needed to solve the world number one puzzle, named Sesshoumaru. No, unfortunately he only saw the last feeble light of the sun before it hid completely behind whatever it was in the end of the horizon, leaving in its wake numerous faintest dots of the early rising stars that was getting brighter as the sky re-wrapped itself in a familiar black coat that went on forever like an abyss from above. His eyes wandered as he looked for another wonder of night but widened when he realized the absent of it.
He raised his hand, couldn't be bothered by the fact that now, he could move his limbs again, though some of the movement restricted was still there, but that was far away from his mind at this moment as he stared at his clawless fingers, horrified.
The night of the New Moon.
His attention snapped back to the other living being still partly laid above him but most of his weight now was supported by one of his elbow beside Inuyasha's head, chin set on his palm, looking on as the younger's realization slowly took place by his expressive facial features.
"Your wounds would take longer to heal if you leave it unattended, tonight." Sesshoumaru wove his fingers through midnight hair, took one particular long lock and looked at it intensely with an unreadable expression on his face, unreadable, not the usual blankness he often carried about himself. "Or worse, the leftover poison in your system would start working again now that your demonic's nature healing has left."
"Your attempt at comforting sucks." Inuyasha snorted as he crossed his arms inside his sleeves, trying to sound gruffy as he used to act normally to hide his anxiety as well the slight shaking in his person. Not from the fear for his life, but he had no idea why he didn't want to see the usual rejection from Sesshoumaru or whatever nastiness negative ideas his mind kept conjuring in him about how his elder brother would think about him in this state. Sesshoumaru could barely tolerate him as a hanyou before, a human him may just snapped the other demon and what—
"Stop thinking." Sesshoumaru's voice snapped his self-awareness into pieces and when his attention turned back to his demon brother, he noticed what left of his personal bubble was reduced to less than a hair away, their noses were almost brushing and they practically breathed on each other's air. Their closeness made hairs in the back of his neck stood on all ends as cold sweats broke out, trailed down his head to the side of his face and soaked the neckline of his fire rat robe. Sesshoumaru leaned in impossibly closer and he didn't even realized he had hold his breathing, till kept his brother's gaze until the demon leaned over his side, purposely let his lips brushed against his cheek, the tinging from that barely there contact made his body turned rigid, and he could feel the hot air from Sesshoumaru's exhale in his ear as he softly whispered, "Breath."
And all air left his lung.
When the white dots in his vision were cleared and got a hold of himself again to situate what he was in for, he was mildly surprised that they were not far away from the village. Actually, they were just right outside his forest, where its end was the starting point looking out to an opened field of wild herbals that Kaede usually brought Rin along to gather what they needed from time to time.
"I figured you would want to stay close to your companions." Was Sesshoumaru's reply before he even got the chance to ask why they were here. He swallowed, an uneasiness settled inside his stomach. That was real creepy at how Sesshoumaru looked like he could read his mind. He should feel violated now shouldn't he?
"No." Sesshoumaru answered him again.
That it did. The uneasy in him ebbed away for anger to bubble up. He even took a deep breath before his long speech to give his bastard of a brother a piece of his mind on modesty and privacy. But, even before any word had the chance to escape his lips, the flesh got covered by Sesshoumaru's, and the only noise could get out at this point was his mortified squawk.
If it was possible for his eyes to get wider, it sure did now as he kept their gaze. He didn't even know how but he knew this was not the imagination that his mind made up, because of the way Sesshoumaru's tongue was moving slowly inside his mouth, trailing along the up and down of his human teeth texture, caressing the inside of his cheeks, sneaking under his own tongue and finally curled them around each other, and most of all, the way Sesshoumaru's eyes had turned glassy and took on a darker shade of gold, until the white surface surrounded it flash bright red for a tiny moment so fast his poor human vision almost blamed it on his own hallucination…
… He felt wanted.
And Sesshoumaru had laid himself bare before him, on the night he was at his weakest.
This was wrong. But it felt right.
They were siblings. But only by half.
He loved Kagome. But she was not here.
He had vowed to wait for her until forever. But he didn't know when she would come back if, she ever wanted to come back. She didn't belong here.
And Sesshoumaru…
His sight of Sesshoumaru's face was getting blurrier and blurrier and he blinked once to clear it, didn't notice the wetness rolled down his cheeks until Sesshoumaru's tongue left his mouth to lick the salty water away. His chest was hurt, because of his air deprived lung was working again, and because of another kind of hurt on his fast beating heart each time his mind thought about the five centuries ahead reincarnation of his deceased lover… No, Kikyo had not come back to him, but Kagome was born for him, to meet him.
He didn't know when he had closed his eyes, but it had done the job to protect him against the truth during the short time it had occurred. The pain and hurt near successfully guarded again in Sesshoumaru's golden irises when he opened his eyes again didn't make him regret for not prolonging his ignorance behind his eyelids.
He didn't even realize how warm he was until the coldness of the night hit him full force as Sesshoumaru sat up away from him. His gut told him it was possible the worst part coming up, though he didn't know why, when his brother turned away to look at the direction of the village.
"Your companions should be worry for your safety by now. I doubt Jaken's appearance earlier to inform them you are alright did any good to their ridiculous fantasies indulge mind."
The softness in his voice was gone. The emotions he had let out was gone. What had just happened between them… was gone. And it was even possible, the ache in his heart by hearing his brother's latest monotone syllables, had become too much the previous wave seemed so dull compare to what it was now. The lump magically appeared in his throat suddenly too large to swallow down anymore and he once again found it hard to even draw a breath.
But when Sesshoumaru was about to stand up, he had acted on his instinct before his thought could catch up with him. His human strength couldn't do much to a youkai this night, not to mention his opponent was a taiyoukai at that. But his surprise didn't stay long when both his hands grabbed the sleeve of Sesshoumaru's attire and pulled, which surely felt like a sorry excuse of the softest of a tug to the other demon, but nevertheless halted the taiyoukai in whatever it was he was about to do to bring his gaze back to the human behind him, and his eyes was hard, as or even more than steel. But it seem the human was not the only one acted on his instinct at this point, because the moment the older demon realized what his sight was providing him, the hardness quickly got threw away somewhere far behind his head, preferable in the middle of the place he was previously looking at. But the blankness in his golden eyes by now didn't help the situation either, because it was even getting worse.
And the human had spoken first this time. Apparently not what the demon was expecting to hear either.
"I want to stay." Inuyasha said, looking straight in his brother's eyes, "Here… with you." The momentarily hesitance, the demon observed, was not because he was unsure of himself, but because…
… He was unsure of him.
And he wanted to…
"Why?" The elder one asked, kept his desperation only known for himself.
"I want to." Was his reply.
Sesshoumaru was silent. One of them had to make a decision at this point. Either they stopped it here before he let them both wander to where he was sure Inuyasha was not well-prepared to travel down the path and injured both of them in the process.
"I want to," Inuyasha spoke again, and Sesshoumaru knew what he was about to hear, but before he could make up his mind, for a too short instant of his own hesitation because a part too large of him wanted it, for his own selfishness' sake, the decision was ripped away from him before he could do something about it as Inuyasha finished, "Understand you."
What have you done…
But his heart soared. Even if he knew they would end up hurting each other. Badly.
But he could pretend he knew not about what would come out of this as he enclosed Inuyasha in his arms. He decided, as he took a deep inhale of his younger sibling scent, the scent that had no trace of his demon blood, made him a complete human only in those nights same as this, he would take all the hurt in the end of the day, yes, and this would be worth it.
"You can't come back." He warned the human as his embrace tightened.
He felt a determined nod against his chest followed with Inuyasha's soft hum of confirmation, and he let out the breath he had kept on holding.
During all the time his life dedicated on serving Lord Sesshoumaru, this was not the first time he felt so, oh so miserable. The green imp sighed for the umpteenth time as he looked up at the bottomless, and moonless night sky. "Sesshoumaru-sama…" He whined again.
A bit farther away from where the imp was sitting at, Sango, Miroku, Kaede and Rin were looking at him, while the adults were with amused in their eyes, the only child was with innocence and confusion. And she voiced it right away, "Come on, Jaken-sama. Sesshoumaru-sama and Inuyasha-sama may be back soon. They won't miss dinner!"
"That's not what I'm worrying about, you heartless girl!" The imp barked back in his squeaky voice, made the adult nearby cringed at the high octave, and he started rolling on the floor away from the entrance way and wailing a broken syllable of Sesshoumaru's name.
"He looks like a nagging wife." Miroku rubbed his chin.
"I wonder if that's why he kicked him our way." Sango crossed her arms, itching to grab for her most trusted Hiraikotsu and whacked the annoying, till wailing, demon into oblivion so he could just shut up.
"I can hear it, you ungrateful humans!" Jaken fumed as he jumped up, pointed the old man head of his staff at the humans, his eyes almost budged out of their sockets as red bloodshots appeared around due to his unreasonable rage, "He told me to tell you mongrels that the hanyou was alright! But when I came back waiting for him he had gone somewhere else!" He screeched at the end of his speech.
Kaede suddenly grabbed his Nintoujou to whack his head, successfully knocked him down face first to the floor, dropped the staff on the bump already there, making another slowly formed atop the old one, and the demon let out a whining "oof". With that done, she nonchalantly went to the back of her hut to pull out what they needed for dinner.
The monk and demon slayer coupled looked on as Rin walked to Jaken, sat down beside his face down, till whining form, and gently soothed the bumps on his head, "That's not good, Jaken-sama. Sesshoumaru-sama will not be pleased if he knew Jaken-sama angered Kaede-sama that she cut off your dinner." She said in an reprimand innocence tone, that only made the imp started wailing for his Lord again. Sango and Miroku sweat dropped.
'That's not the reason why he was like that, Rin-chan…' Was all the three adults thought to themselves.
Kaede looked over her shoulder to Sango and she wondered, "Sango, isn't Kohaku a bit late?"
"He might be late since Shippou's fox friends were having some issues with the new demons near their place so they asked for our help." Sango turned to Kaede to fully address her elder. "He told us not to wait for him."
The old priestess hummed in acknowledgement and turned back to her task. "I see."
"I met him with Sesshoumaru-sama earlier." Jaken suddenly spoke up, gained all the eyes on him. Suddenly felt unnerved with the way the humans were watching him expectantly to continue, he coughed into his hand and put his nose in the air. "I'm not telling you!"
Several bumps later…
"The human told my Lord where he was going and for what." He sniffled with teary eyes and continued, "My Lord directed him to the opposite way the fox pointed out! And Kohaku obeyed my Lord without question!"
Miroku humming at this information, "Why would Sesshoumaru-sama do that?"
"Ha!" Jaken puffed out his tiny chest. "Of course to deceive you lot! What else?!"
"Bad Jaken-sama." Rin reprimanded him again. "Sesshoumaru-sama had his reason. He would never deceive his friends."
Everyone sweat dropped again at the girl as Jaken started rolling all around the hut, this time in laughter, "F… Friends! Ha ha…!" He caught himself in between enough to say what next, "With humans!" And he brought out in laughter again.
This time no one stopped him and turned away to ignore him all together. Mainly because Kaede had told the girl come along to help her prepare for dinner and the other two adults had joined them.
They would just ask Kohaku when he and Shippou returned.
"So she made you do hers and yours so called Lord dirty jobs ever since?" Inuyasha asked incredibly, wide eyes stared at Sesshoumaru's disdain expression, and he had enough gall to snort, so he did just that. "Wonderful."
"Are you offering your help, Inuyasha?" Sesshoumaru gritted out, irritation like venom in his voice.
"If you don't mind I go tell them to fuck themselves, yeah okay." The human nodded his head, snuggled more into the warm of his brother's Mokomoko (Hey, Sesshoumaru even told him its name when he asked just now!). The night was getting colder as midnight was drawing near. Their swords was set down beside them in the grass, within range to draw if any idiots decided to assault them, which was most unlikely, the sole purpose of this was just so they could get into more comfortable position since sitting up had started aching his back a while ago.
"What a disturbing image you've made out there." Sesshoumaru said airily as if he was making comment about the night was getting colder. "I'm pretty sure the mate of that old goat wouldn't be happy if her mate bedded their own daughter."
"Gross!" Inuyasha made a face and wrinkled his nose, clearly stating his distaste, "Why do you always turn my original meaning to something else completely different while you know exactly what I meant?"
"Maybe because I like it." Sesshoumaru tucked his brother's head under his chin, "Or because," He drawled, snaked his hands inside Inuyasha's sleeves and found his human sibling's hands which were slightly shaken due to the cold air and threaded their fingers together, "I enjoy seeing how you react about something."
Inuyasha rolled his eyes, a light pinkish color adorned his cheeks, more because of the clear affections he was showering with than the cold air his human skin was exposed to.
"… And that was adorable." And now with the harmless teasing.
"I'm not adorable!" He snapped.
"You know you are cute." On with the teasing.
Inuyasha gasped, "You didn't just say that!"
"I did."
"I'm so not talking to you!" He declared.
"Are you sure?" Sesshoumaru looked at him with curiously.
"Hell yeah I am!" He huffed.
"You just talk." The corner of Sesshoumaru's lips twitched up.
"YOU!" He lost it and pounced.
Later he named it one of his worst action of the century. Really, had you ever seen a human attacked a taiyoukai in the middle of the night?
Sometimes what remaining of his brain left him and never came back. When it came to Sesshoumaru that was.
Somewhere in the middle of the cloud a fairly far distant away, sat the Lady of the Western Lands, amusingly watching through her Meidou Stone to see the way her own son and the son of her mate with a human female rolled around on the grass. In which the younger of the two occasionally snapped his jaw against the older one, nearly bit him successfully. Or there was this time when Sesshoumaru decided to take back his upper hand, pinned the human to the ground and silent his colorful wording way with a kiss that betrayed how deadly he was capable at by the sheer tenderness of it. Her expression softened more as she watched on when the younger of the two slowly, but surely circled his arms around Sesshoumaru's shoulders to pull himself off the ground as he pressed back against the other's lips.
"If only you were alive to see this…" She whispered softly to herself, her voice echoed all over the chamber she once shared with the late Great Dog General, as a lone tear rolled down her cheek, dropped against the smooth surface of the Meidou Stone in her hands with a soft tap, the same smile Sesshoumaru couldn't remember the last time he saw it till on her face. Her smile that said she was happy, truly.
They settled down against each other once again when Inuyasha was completely out of breath, literally. It became their second nature by now that Sesshoumaru sat Inuyasha in his lap as he leaned on his Mokomoko with his arms around the younger, and Inuyasha, like the pup he was (in the heart, his matured body protested), snuggled against his brother, took all the warm and affections Sesshoumaru was willing to give him at this point. But hey, he didn't object against this position, he was all comfy here, thank you very much!
"Say…" Inuyasha called for Sesshoumaru's attention, suddenly felt—
"You are nervous." Sesshoumaru observed. "Because you are fidgeting with your hands, more exactly, you are pulling your sleeve."
Inuyasha scowled and stopped what his traitorous body language was giving away, in turn made the elder one raised an ever heaven-forbid elegant royal eyebrow. "I'm not nervous." He coughed in to his hand.
"Very well."
"God, do you ever stop talking?!" He threw his hands in the air in exasperation, Sesshoumaru had to jerk his head back a bit so as to save his face from getting smacked in the process. And started to stare at Inuyasha.
This in turn, called the nervousness that got chased away by his sudden outburst came back full force. If Sesshoumaru felt like saying anything about it, he didn't. And kept staring, still.
A vein popped in the corner of Inuyasha's brow as he almost scream, "Say something!" To his brother, but it came out as a squeak instead, what an embarrass thing his voice had turned into when he felt, well, embarrass.
"You are hard to please." Sesshoumaru drawled as if he was bored, but the way his eyes gleamed in obvious glee said otherwise, "One moment you wanted me to shut up, the next you ordered me to talk." He leaned closer to the human in his arms, shortened the distance of their faces bit by bit, sloooowly. "The nerve you have never ceases to amaze me."
"Why suddenly you look like you want to eat?!" And instead of sounding like a snap, Inuyasha noted with horror that it was a squawk, his squawk!
Sesshoumaru may as well stared at him for all eternity till at last he looked up, broke their gaze and whispered, mostly to himself than Inuyasha, but his younger brother heard it nevertheless, "I will pretend that I've never heard of what you just said."
"It's not my fault you made it your habit to turn the meaning of what I said to something else completely unrelated." Inuyasha mumbles, thumbed his head to Sesshoumaru's chest with a soft blush on his cheeks, realized what he said and how much it effected his brother. He's turning me into a pervert…
He felt Sesshoumaru's chest rose and fell against the side of his head as he sighed above, along with his calming down heartbeats. "You are not feeling what a human should when involving in this act with your own sibling is a blessing enough to me." And a curse. Sesshoumaru added silently and Inuyasha was more than heard that under meaning even it was not said aloud.
At last, Sesshoumaru broke the almost awkward silence between them by reminding Inuyasha with, "What was you about to say?"
"Umm…" Was all Inuyasha could say, more like he completely forgot what he was about to say. He looked up to find Sesshoumaru was looking down at him, waiting. "… Promise you won't get mad?" He mumbled in a tiny voice, hoping Sesshoumaru wouldn't catch it.
He wouldn't catch it if he was a human. And that was a big if. "Depends." He really tried to make things easy for them both, he did. But there was certain matters he, and they, were not ready for, yet. And he was hoping beyond hope that the little one wouldn't venture too far with the curious level that was more dangerous than a cat of his. He knew Inuyasha got part dog demon, but till…
He heard Inuyasha took a deep breath to calm his nerve and prepared himself. He just prayed it had nothing to do with his past prefer—
"Why me?"
Nevermind.
He didn't know if he had a choice. The blatantly truth or the truth itself. Or both.
"Would you listen until I tell you otherwise?" He asked, looking at Inuyasha's confused eyes. The younger one definitely didn't expect a calm answer from him if he had forgotten how he had been like a mess of nervousness earlier before his question. But Inuyasha slowly nodded after gave it a long thought until he was sure enough that they could proceed.
Sesshoumaru closed his eyes and leaned down to place a soft kiss on Inuyasha's forehead, maybe it was going to be the last. But he was unsure he would be able to let go… He may be at it for a while longer than he should because Inuyasha's hands was on his cheeks, his face turned up till their noses brushed against each other and their lips were almost touching. But Inuyasha had said nothing, and his eyes…
I trust you.
Tell me.
"To put it biologically, even if I bedded any youkai out there, the possible offspring would always be resulted in," He paused, half held himself back from saying it, and he wanted to close his eyes against the world, against Inuyasha's searching gaze, his harsh— His eyes widened a fraction as he stopped dead at what he saw in Inuyasha's obsidian eyes, the bottomless darker than black fueled with harsh emotions burned together in the never-ending depth of his eyes, with killing-intents were rolling off of him in waves, the cold fury awoke in Inuyasha at the mention of Sesshoumaru with any possible others, was there, but the younger one was holding it in, and he was doing a good job at that, to respect his elder's wish for no interruption he had promised him. And he gave him no way out of this but to finish what he had started, "A half-breed."
The tension between them was thick in the air followed Sesshoumaru's statement. Despite that, Inuyasha was the one still keep their close intimacy while Sesshoumaru's arms were loosely placed in his hips, provided him the possible escaped had he chosen to take. Right now, Sesshoumaru would let him stand up and go back to the village, but that was the last thing in his mind as he kept holding on his brother, and wait.
"Your birth was an expected unexpected." Sesshoumaru continued, looked straight into Inuyasha's eyes. "A normal human wouldn't have been able to withstand a strong youkai's vernom in his essence had an offspring was able to successfully conceive." A hand pulled back from Inuyasha hip to touch his cheek, the light caresses of Sesshoumaru released some tension off of Inuyasha's person. "You had met another hanyou and their parents along the way, but I assure you one thing," Sesshoumaru had to make sure Inuyasha would fully understand what he was about to say, and he would be able to accept it for what it was, a nod from Inuyasha gave him what he needed to go on, "You are one, the only one of a kind. Because," The taiyoukai's eyes narrowed, "Your father was a taiyoukai himself."
"At the moment you were conceived, you yourself would turn into a poison, and that was what would kill your mother because of your bloodlust." He was not surprised at Inuyasha's patient as he was silent up until this point. The old him would have all riled up and defended his mother, despite how useless it was at his current state. But maybe the fact that his mother had carried him into term, only got killed by her own kin later had hold him back to listen, and think. He had grown up… Sesshoumaru noted with a smile he didn't even realized he had let out.
"However your mother was not a normal human." There was a certain fondness in the way Sesshoumaru had spoken about his mother just now that brought a pinkish hue to Inuyasha's cheeks, and he had no idea why that familiar bubble feeling was back to his stomach again. He couldn't be hungry could he? They had eaten already, that big fat rabbit was till staying good in his tummy, could it even possible that the barbequed thing suddenly came back to life inside him?!
"Inuyasha." He startled, looked up at his brother who was smirking at him knowingly. But he was spared from the teasing was sure to come later when they were done with this. Whatever this was as Sesshoumaru spoke again.
"She was the princess of her own rights as you knew." Inuyasha nodded in confirmation, "But also the last heiress of the Setsuna Clan."
He gasped at this. What?
"The Setsuna Clan was one of many strong clans that gave birth to several famous demon slayers, monks, and priestess." Sesshoumaru explained further. "For example, Midoriko."
At this point, Inuyasha had turned into a gapping fish. Oh God, Sesshoumaru had not just dropped this on him, had he?!
"I know it was hard to take, that's why I didn't want you to know so soon." Sesshoumaru sighed as his shoulders relaxed somewhat, but suddenly tensed as what he was about to say next. "Your mother was born into the Setsuna Clan as a Dark Priestess."
Inuyasha's posture turned rigid at the revealation, while his eyes searched for anything against the truth in his brother's statement in his intense gaze on him. None.
"You must have encountered at least one kuromiko in your wandering and their deeds, judging by your reaction. But," Sesshoumaru tilted his head, "I'm pretty sure none of them was the Dark Priestess I was talking about that was same as your mother."
Inuyasha furrowed his brows in confusion and his lower lip pursed out. This made no sense at all.
"Those you've met probably got their holy power tainted by their own greed and desire over the time. Led them to do what others judged as wrong doings and whatnots."
Inuyasha noded.
"However, the holy power of your mother had never been tainted," By now both of Sesshoumaru's hands were on Inuyasha's cheeks as he remembered the human princess that his father had mated, noticed how familiar Inuyasha had looked like his mother on this night, a detail which had slipped him on many previous occasions before. He kept on talking in a much softer voice, "Despite how her kind had frown upon her for her choosing the wrong one, in turn never acknowledged you until the day they all died and their next generations continued on with their hatred toward you."
"She was pure. Even more than your first priestess, the one capable of purifying the Shikon no Tama."
Inuyasha blinked off the blurriness in his eyes, at the same time Sesshoumaru's lips caught a tray of salty wetness escaped before it got the chance to trail down his cheek.
"And she was strong." Sesshoumaru spoke against his closed eyelids, "To have you conceived, which was the first impossible thing to happen. To carry you into term, was the second impossible. To give birth to you, which was the third. To be by your side until the last of her breath left, which was the fourth. To make you feel loved among hatred threw your way was the fifth."
Inuyasha found himself surrounded tightly in Sesshoumaru as his brother's lips moved to his ear.
"And to force her miracle into my life. You."
Inuyasha swallowed. He was an unneeded in his life?
"No."
Then what?
"I don't know."
Inuyasha's body sagged against Sesshoumaru's.
"I don't know what to do with you."
What did you mean?
"I don't know how to be your sibling."
Why?
"Because I was not sure if it was right for me to treat you the same way our father did my mother, given your part of our blood."
Yes.
"But the human blood in you was against it. Have you ever seen the demon slayer siblings acted like us right now?"
He shook his head softly.
"I was not educated on how a youkai should treat his sibling, who happened to be a hanyou, Inuyasha. I can't know if I don't know."
I don't know too.
"You were supposed to be a girl."
.
.
.
"WHAT?!" He finally screeched. Damn you heard right, he had the right to. What the fuck? Seriously. What. The. FUCK?!
"When he knew you were conceived, he barged into the middle of my important allies gathering and told me 'You've got a female sibling! You heard me? Your sister! Now come greet her. She's inside Izayoi right now waiting for her big brother!' and before I knew it, he was grabbing my hand and forced me to grope what he was believing to be his so called daughter." Sesshoumaru talked in the monotone he was so used to.
"I had not the heart to tell him how ridiculous he was being. But I was anger enough to ask him 'Are you done?' and left before he could answer."
He felt a heavy weight on his head to know Sesshoumaru had leaned against him, he needed an anchor to continue, one with his reassurance that it was okay even if what he was about to hear next was not going to be pleasant for his ears.
"I was young. I only knew at the time was that my father had left my own mother for a human and had an unborn child with her. Nothing else. I was so sure with what I was taught that you would kill her in your bloodthirsty for nutrition without knowing it and in turn you would die along with her."
Inuyasha had hold him as tight back, nodding for him to continue.
"She carried you while maintaining a healthy physical and even spiritual, I would say her holy power even got stronger while carrying you, until she was bedridden on the last month before you were born."
The unmistakable respect for his mother in Sesshoumaru's tone didn't get away from Inuyasha's human ears and the younger smile softly against the demon's chest.
"We got attacked by Ryukotsusei before our assault was launched on him as our plan. I was sure there was a traitor in our allies but it was too late to act on it. Father was heavily injured when he sealed away Ryukotsusei as you knew. I was too clouded with my own denial that I blamed his dead on you, made you and your mother the living reason for his lost than the corpse of that flying snake."
Their role reversed as Inuyasha was holding his brother against his chest and the other wrapped his arms around his waist like his life depended on it. Neither of them cared to wonder how they had got into this position.
Inuyasha didn't even know about their father. He had no memory of him. But Sesshoumaru knew and everything about their late sire. If he was hurt because he didn't know him then he could only imagine what his lost had put his brother in.
"He asked me had I anything to protect before he left, forever."
"Have you?"
"I hadn't."
Against the top of Sesshoumaru's head, Inuyasha's smile hidden in the sea of silky silver of his brother hair. 'You hadn't.'
"I told you our father and my mother are siblings."
Inuyasha hummed, waited for him to continue.
"I am the result of what generations after generations of our demon heritage had been doing to keep our line as it was until now." Sesshoumaru drew away from him as they sat up properly to look at each other. "Our ancestors always mated their own siblings, to keep our blood pure. And the strangest thing was the birth."
Inuyasha titled his head and blinked at him in question.
"There was always a pair was born. If not twin then given or taken a few hundred years, but definitely the second one would come along. And by some unknown force, they ended up with each other, willingly."
Inuyasha gasped incredibly.
"I didn't believe when I heard it at first, too, until it was the time for me to know, starting with mating ceremony. And that was one thing I thought was unnecessary because I was born without a mate. I had no sibling."
Inuyasha got the distinct impression that the 'had' of Sesshoumaru was not about him.
"My mother had conceived a pair of twins. But only I was born. My supposed sibling had disappeared as if never there." If he noticed any change in Inuyasha, he didn't do anything about it. Instead he continued as if he just didn't tell his brother about their dead sibling, in fact, he looked like he could care less about it at all. "Those whose were close to us, mostly our allies, feared what I was capable of as they deemed I was lost in my own madness for losing what I didn't have. What they called my mate." A cruel smirk appeared in Sesshoumaru's face as he narrowed his eyes at Inuyasha, the younger of the two faced his gaze head on. And, to his own unexplainable inner turmoil, Inuyasha had caught a fleck of insanity flashed in his elder sibling's eyes.
Instead of cower in fear like whoever would be, anger raised up in the deepest place of Inuyasha. How long had they forced him to act like he was okay with this?
"You know when they got wind of the fact that you were a boy, what they had done?" The coldness in Sesshoumaru's voice caused shivers to run all over Inuyasha's body. "They wanted to defend me and my mother's honor by inviting us to join them and destroy the Setsuna Clan, now that their strongest warrior Setsuna no Takemaru had dead, together with our father. And their strongest priestess, your mother, would be too weak after she had given birth to you to even fight back."
They were not sitting across from each other anymore. Before he knew it, Sesshoumaru was hovering over him, the madness in his eyes was more presentation there than ever, focused on him as he could see his reflection in his brother's eyes cleared as daylight, "The first crime they committed was that they even thought to use me and my mother." Sesshoumaru hissed against his ears, "The second, they thought they had the right to touch what is mine."
He was surprise he could even draw breath at this point, but with the way his heart was beating so hard and fast against his ribcage, the air he got into his lung were short stay until it was forced out in his frantic breathing to let the other puff of air come in. He was almost choked on his own air. How could Sesshoumaru do this to him?
"I thought you were mine the second my hand touched you when you were still inside your mother." The sudden change of tone from harsh to soft of Sesshoumaru startled him. And he said he was the one hard to catch up? "But I was not so sure about it anymore on the night of the first New Moon of your life."
"I couldn't smell your blood anymore. I couldn't see your golden eyes or your long silver hair that were almost like mine anymore. I couldn't even know if that was you anymore."
He didn't know if it was the way Sesshoumaru was smiling at him while he spoke about it or the pain he saw in his eyes when he knew what exactly Sesshoumaru saw in him on this night…
"For the first time in my life, at that instant, I felt fear."
"Let me talk." He truly talked for the first time since they got this started.
"Talk."
"I am," He unconsciously reached out for Sesshoumaru, in which the demon accepted him willingly in his arms, again, "Sesshoumaru's Inuyasha."
"Mine!" Sesshoumaru growled in his ear, tightened his hold on him to near the bone breaking point.
"Yours."
They repeated those mono syllables against each other ears until they were satisfied that the other knew about that only truth between them.
And it didn't matter to Inuyasha that Sesshoumaru maybe already lost to his own madness, because he was insane for him.
To be continued...
