"She's a girl."
"Yes, Ten. That is what your mother said," she said chuckling at him.
"We have a little girl."
"Yes, we do," she said still laughing at him as she held their youngest child and son.
"What should we name her?"
"I thought we said they're names would be Katara and Kuzon?" Even though they didn't know the sex of the children until they were born, they had come up with a number of combinations for either sets of genders.
"She just doesn't look like a Katara." Tenzin was right, she had peachier skin tone than ivory like her mother but her hair was the same black as her mother's with little curls and her eyes they were bright green just like her mother's. No, she was definitely not a Katara, a Toph maybe. What Tenzin knew for sure was that she was his little baby girl that he would do anything to protect.
Lin smiled at her son he had stormy grey-green eyes, brown hair and ivory skin like his parents. Kuzon was the perfect name for him, Kuzon Aang Bei Fong but she hadn't told Tenzin that she wanted to name him after Aang. Now she, they had to come up with a name for their daughter.
Lin had toyed with a couple combination of names for a girl but none of them seemed right. She couldn't name her Alina or Amara, she wanted something that would complement Kuzon's name, so maybe a more traditional Fire Nation name. The little girl would have a lot to live up being the only girl of her siblings and cousins so far. Kya was pregnant and due in a few months and Ursa and Bumi just had a son, Iroh II.
"Tenzin, do you have any suggestions for a name?" He didn't answer her; he just keeps staring at their daughter with his goofy smile on his face.
Kuzon was a fussy baby, he cried for almost no reason. He kept his parents and grandparents up the entire three weeks they were on the island. Rinzin and Raiden were happy they could get away for a few hours each day at school but Kaian wasn't as lucky when they went home.
"Mommy, can't you make him stop, please! All he does it cry, when can he be like baby sis and only cry when he's hungry or needs changing." Kaian loved being mama's little helper when it came to helping his siblings but Kuzon was so demanding; cried for every little thing.
"Why can't he be more zen like baby sis, she my favorite."
"Kaian, don't pick favorites, it's not fair to you brothers."
"Fine, she's my favorite sister." Lin laughed at her son as she went to put Kuzon in his crib and pick up her daughter.
"Hi sweet girl, are you hungry," Lin knew she wasn't, but she just picked her up anyways and sat in the rocking chair. Kaian was right she was more zen than her twin brother, more so then all of her brothers the more Lin thought about it.
"Mama, when she gonna start bending so we can practice together?" Lin hadn't even thought if she would be a bender, she was more focused on picking a name for her.
"I don't know, but remember Kaian she could be an airbender like Rinzin or a non-bender." Kaian hadn't thought about that he just hoped she was an earthbender so he could teach how to protect herself.
"That's okay, I'll make sure that she's safe and protect her like daddy told us too." Lin got up from the rocking chair to place a now sleeping little girl in her crib and picked up Kaian.
"Come now my little badgermole, let's make sure there's snacks ready for your brothers and dad when the get home."
"But who's gonna watch the babies?" Lin loved that he was already so protective of his younger siblings.
"We'll be just downstairs if they wake up and need us," this gave Kaian some reassurance but he still wanted to make sure his little sister was safe.
"Mama can you put me down please," she place him on the floor and he hurried off down the hall. Just as Lin was about to leave, he came rushing back in with his favorite stuffed penguin. Kaian then place the penguin inside his sister's crib.
"There, now Rex we'll make sure she's safe and protect her till I come back." Lin's heart warmed as she placed a kiss on her 5 year old's head and took his hand to go downstairs.
She had no doubt in her mind, that Kaian would be a wonderful big brother. She only wonder what he and the rest of the family were going to call her. She couldn't be little sis or baby girl for the rest of her life.
Lin had to talk to Tenzin about giving her a proper name, she was going to be almost six weeks old and still had no name.
"Ten, she needs a name." Tenzin looked at the woman he loved more than anything else in the world, the mother of his children and sighed. She was right, their little girl needed a name but he didn't want to give her just any name. It had to be special like her.
"Darling, I know but there isn't a name in this world or the spirit world that either of us will both agree on." Now it was Lin's turn to sigh.
"Then we make up a name, a name no one else in this world or the next would have." Tenzin smiled at Lin. She loved how much he wanted to make their daughter more special than she already was to them.
"Well, I have a name for her, or at least an idea. What do you think about Zen?" She had been thinking about it all day ever since Kaian brought it about.
"I thought you said it had to be more than three letters." That earned him slap across his arm. "Hey, what was that for?"
"That was for thinking you were right and I was wrong. It was just an idea airhead, you think of something then if you don't like." Lin was a little upset that he didn't like but they both had to agree on what to call their daughter.
"I never said that I didn't like it, where did you come up with that idea?"
"Kaian said something earlier about how she was so calm and that reminded me of you when we were younger."
"You want to name her after me? But you said we couldn't name any of them after each other." Tenzin was so confused by what she just had said, of course he would love that their daughter would be named after him in away but he wasn't sure.
"I said no Tenzin or Lin Jrs., technically she won't be a junior since I'm not naming my daughter Tenzin, it would just be too weird for several reasons." He laughed a little.
"We how about Kazena or Tarazen, after my mother like we wanted it the first place?"
"I kind of like Kazena, Kazena Toph Bei Fong, no I don't like that." Her face wrinkled up after she said causing Tenzin to chuckle again.
"So her middle will be Toph then?"
"Well of course, my mother is going to have a fit when she finds out that Kuzon was named entirely after your father and Zen was named after you and your mother. I'd like to see my children grow up thank you very much." He continued laugh which earned him a punch to his biceps but it was worth it he thought.
"Alright, since you're being picky, you think of one while I go get some ice for my arm." He got of bed and went downstairs. Lin huffed and crossed her arms as she thought of a name but nothing was coming to her mind. So she got up and went to check on the sleeping infants.
She checked on Kuzon first, he had kicked off his blanket and was half rolled over so placed him back on his back and covered him up again since would wake up crying from being too cold. When she went over to Zen's crib, she was surprised to see her still awake. She was staring out of the window but hadn't moved from off her back; so Lin picked her up and walked over to the window so Zen could better see the moon.
"Hey sweet girl, why aren't you sleeping?" Zen just gave her mother the best smile a six week old infant could give. "Is it because your daddy and I have finally figured out what to name you?" Lin cooed, she knew that Zen didn't understand her but she told her anyways. She was still smiling back at her with no clue what was going on and Lin loved it. She looked almost exactly like she did when Lin was a baby, there were just bits of Tenzin in her which he loved since he wanted her to look exactly like her mother, beautiful.
"How do you like the name Zenaka? I know it might be a little hard to say but when you get older you could always just go by Zen or Zena as nicknames, if you wanted."
"I think it's beautiful," Lin turned around to see Tenzin standing in the doorway before making his way to the two of them. "Just like she is."
"Oh Tenzin stop, if you keep that up she's be full of herself before she's a year old."
"I highly doubt that since you never knew how truly beautiful you are." Lin blushed a little at his comment. Tenzin loved how he could still make her blush even after being together for so long. "Isn't your mommy the most woman in the world, Zenaka?" He cooed to his daughter, smiling because calling her Zenaka was the most natural thing, next to loving her.
"Now. Zenaka, if you would show us some of that amazing bending, that would be just wonderful." Lin gave Tenzin a sideways glare causing him to give her a small smile. "I know, I know no pressure." He wrapped his arms around the two most important women in his life, his daughter and the love of his life. He kissed Lin's forehead and played with Zenaka's curls, causing that goofy smile to appear on his face.
I know it has been awhile since I have updated this story, but I haven't forget about it. I've just been side track with other things called life. I'll try and update again sooner this time.
