Sorry for the wait; I started a new job, and I'm really tired lately. It's only a seasonal thing, though, so I think I be okay.
Did you see Gotham? I did. I wasn't too thrilled. I guess the thing I didn't like the most was the fact that it didn't get too involved in Bruce's life as a kid, before the idea of heroism crossed his mind. Jim's great, but he's no Bruce Wayne. I like what they did with Penguin, though.
Anyway, this is set a day after the last chapter and during The Doomsday Sanction.
Disclaimer: I don't own anything DC related. Sad, I know.
Wally's POV
As Wally got up from the conference table, he couldn't help but think of Cadmus. It was a good idea to him. He knew that some of the others wouldn't agree. Most heroes didn't see how destructive and harmful their own powers were on a daily basis, so it didn't make sense to them why people would be scared of them.
The redhead ran towards Batman.
Bart's POV
The previous night, after escorting Jason home, the boys refused to leave unless he heard them out. After a long (andsloooow) explanation and an even longer (andslooooweeeer) argument, the man stared treating his brother as, well, his brother. It was gruff love, but it was better than before.
Bart smiled to himself. He felt really really really good. (This is what doing something good feels like.)
His expression turned into one of confusion when he saw his dad walk in. "Aren't you saving people right now? Ithoughtavolcanowasabouttoexplode."
"Bruce gave me a few minutes; I told him that I needed to speak to you," the redhead replied in a voice mixed with nervousness and frustration. He took a deep breath and sat on the couch before continuing. "There's this new group, Cadmus, that want to protect the world from potential threats. Including people like us," he added before his son could interrupt. "You may not see it, Bart, but us speedsters are dangerous. Not only can we run around the world in less time than it takes everybody else, but we can cause heat. We could start full out forest fires. We can vibrate through objects, through people, and cause them to explode if we wanted. Not to mention we can cause severed body parts by using vibrating mixed with momentum. I've even run through time before! Do you get what I'm saying?"
The younger shook his head.
Wally sighed. "Powers scare people. They always have. Cadmus may seem pointless to you, but they're on the right track. People aren't perfect. Good guys can turn bad at any time. Groups like these are just to make sure people stay safe."
Bart thought for a second before nodding. "They're good guys. They make sure nobody gets hurt," he stated. His dad looked as if he wanted to say more, but he had to leave for the island, so he just told Bart to have a good day at school.
-LINE BREAK-
As the young speedster walked towards the cafeteria at lunchtime, he tried to shrink in on himself. His eyes darted from side to side quickly. He was almost at his destination when a rough hand grabbed his shoulder and spun him around.
"Well, well, well. Is the new little baby going to lunch?" asked a large blonde sarcastically to no one. "What are you going to eat today, Freak? An elephant?" The students within hearing range all started to snicker and laugh.
Bart managed to free himself from the boy's grip. As he scurried down the hallway, he was shoved and was purposely knocked into by a few other children. When he reached the cafeteria, he sighed in relief. At least he didn't use his fists today.
The brunette entered the lunch line. He could feel eyes on him. Everyone was waiting to see how much he would eat today. He looked at the food and put three peperoni pizza slices, a salad, and five milk cartons on his tray.
The two year old went to an empty table and sat down. He wasn't welcome at tables with others sitting at them. The thought made tears come to his eyes. He tried to swallow them down with the pizza, but a few still slid down his cheeks.
To make matters worse, Bart remembered that he'd gotten detention again. The teachers didn't believe that he had a photographic memory. They had decided that he had to be cheating. Bart was sure that they just had it out for him.
He considered telling his dad, but what would that do? The redhead had League business to attend to and couldn't fight off his son's bullies. Plus, he might decide that if Bart couldn't handle himself at school, that he couldn't handle bad guys either!
No! Bart thought. Ihavetotakecareofthismyself!
-LINE BREAK-
Wally's POV
Superman marched angrily passed where Flash stood in the hallway on the Watchtower. The redhead ignored his colleague and walked in the opposite direction of the infirmary. Bruce wouldn't want to talk right now.
He soon found himself in front of the door to one of the research labs. He opened it to find J'onn standing near a blonde boy with blue eyes.
As blue met green, Wally smiled.
TBC…
Thad has arrived! YES! To that guest reviewer, Thad won't be evil. I love him.
The bullying scene was hard for me to write. I wasn't bullied like that. I did, however, experience that scene at the lunch table, minus the detention, in middle school. It really was terrible.
Sorry to all of you that wanted to see the confrontation with Tim, Bart, and Jason. I couldn't think of what to write for that. Just use your imaginations.
Review please! Suggestions are welcome.
