Things are now getting more interesting, but the chapters will be shorter from usual. I hope you'll enjoy this chapter! Don't forget to read the author's note at the bottom!
"I knew this would happen. It was obvious from the start. "
"What?" Rebecca opened her eyes slowly, but painfully. The next thing she saw was a child staring at her like if she was the most interesting thing in the world. "Hello?"
"Brother!" The girl yelled for her brother, and Rebecca recognized the place, it was the masked guy's house. "My name is Red! My brother told you were Rebecca! Let's be friends!"
"Sure." Rebecca smiled and got up slowly. "How many times will I end up waking up here? Ryder."
Ryder came into the room and rolled his eyes. "Sorry for bringing you here." He sat next to her then looked into her eyes. "How did you know that the one behind the mask was me, Ryder?"
"I have memories from the past, you were in them." Rebecca answered. He made his sister leave then sighed.
"Who are you?" Ryder got up and faced her. "There is something familiar about you, I don't understand what it is. Will you please share your story with me?"
"Well, could you share yours with me first?"
"… I will…"
The past
Victoria, still riding her horse, noticed another one following her. She took her bow and before she could do a thing, her follower threw a weapon on her bow making her lose it, then made her horse stop.
The princess got off the horse to pick her bow, but before she could, a strong fist connected with her face making her fall hard.
"You're an idiot, you know that?" Victoria was able to see her attacker's face. "What's up princess? Did my fist hurt you?" It was Jade.
"You scared me! What if I shot you?!" Victoria got up angrily and faced the mercenary.
"Princess, I was able to kill the ocean monster, crazy men with crazy abilities, A DRAGON! You expect a simple arrow to kill me?" Jade smirked.
"Listen, you have no reason to be here!" Victoria stated. "I am going alone. I will find a way to learn magic, and I WILL beat that king and save every kingdom he rules!"
Jade hit her again. "Hitting you never gets old." She said then grabbed the princess by her coat's collar. "I don't care if you're a princess! I don't care if you're a source of magic! I don't care if you can beat that bald king or not!" She yelled and pulled her closer. "But if you are going to do such stupid and annoying things I am going to beat the hell out of you!" She then let her go and got up.
"And it's not nice to leave us behind, princess." Beck and André appeared too. "You're going to need help to defeat the king and save your kingdom. You need all the help you can get." Beck said then helped her get up.
"He already took too many lives, ours won't change a thing." André stated then looked at the mercenary. "Thank you for stopping this stubborn princess."
"Whatever." Jade said then got on her horse. "We need to leave now, the sooner we finish the better. You need to learn about your magic, right?"
"Yeah…" Victoria answered.
"Head to the mist forest, I know a friend who might help you learn, Victoria." Martha's voice rang in their heads. "Keep the ball of glass I gave to you, you'll need my help. But be careful, that forest isn't the safest place to reach, it's a tricky place, and it uses your fears against you."
"Now, princess, let's go." Beck smirks and carried the princess on his shoulder. "We're coming with you. I want my revenge."
"No! LET ME GO! I'm going alone!"
"Yeah, sure you are. Do you want another bruise in your face?" Jade asked with an evil smile.
"As much as I was touched by the way you're helping, no."
"The present."
"What happened exactly?" Tori asked.
"Magic came back, you lost control, and I got a sword, and met a wolf." Jade answered while eating her fries.
"I messed up, didn't I?"
"You did."
"Thanks for your nice and comforting words."
"You're welcome." Jade said smirking. "What did you see that made you lose control?"
"I think that my powers saw through all of our memories, I didn't only see mine, but yours, André's, everyone else except…"
"Rebecca." Jade finished for her and their friends joined them. "Where is Beck?" She asked while looking around.
"I didn't see him in Sikowitz's class." André answered. "What happened to Rebecca?"
"Don't worry André, I'm alive." Rebecca sat next to them and smiled. "Today seems to be a normal day. I hope it stays that way."
"Nothing is still normal after you came." Jade stated with suspicious eyes. "Were did you disappear? Where is your wolf friend?"
"He's here."
"What?!"
"In a human form." Rebecca stated and ate a bit of her lunch. "That doesn't matter right now, you might not want to know his true identity, I heard you have a bad relationship with him, however, he is needed."
"Actually, I want them to know." Ryder's voice startled them, André got up and faced him with an angry expression, while Robbie, Rex, and Cat stared in silence.
"What are you doing here?!" André grabbed him by the collar, but Rebecca grabbed his hand to stop him from doing anything. "Why is HE here?"
"Wait! You mean he is the wolf?" Jade asked.
"Please listen to him! He's on our side!" Rebecca defended him.
"How are we supposed to trust him?" Jade argued and got up. "This guy only does things for himself! He would betray us at any minute!"
"Why are you here Ryder?" Tori asked with a surprisingly calm voice. "How can you help us?"
"I was in the same timeline as yours! I even met you in the past, while you can't remember I can. I can help you." Ryder explained.
"If we don't remember, how come you do?" The past princess asked.
"I don't know, but maybe because I died before the curse." He answered and the princess's expression softened. "Some souls are given the choice to make one last wish before they rest in peace, my wish was to see someone for the last time, but when I arrived, the kingdom was surrounded by a strange magic, and then, I was reborn here." He explained with a painful expression. "I didn't get my memories until Rebecca came, it seems that she unlocked the memories of those who died before that curse."
"Don't bring the curse again in any conversation." Jade said uncomfortably. "How can you help us?"
"The punisher." Ryder said and the Becca felt her hand shake. "He's trying to make the curse work faster, he is making both worlds mix, I don't know why, but I believe we have less than a month to stop him."
"Jack and the punisher are working together, that explains it." Rebecca stated. "That man… he is useless without someone commanding him."
"Yes, I believe so." Daniels confirmed.
"Wait!" Rebecca said with an urgent tone. "Where is Beck?"
"He didn't appear all morning." Cat answered.
"Oh no, oh god." The brunette whispered to herself. "Ryder we need to find Jack now!" His eyes widened when he realized what she meant and nodded.
"What is it?" Tori asked with a scared expression.
"There is no time to explain!" They both left the group.
"Vega, I'm going to follow them, don't do anything stupid, okay?" Jade said and left quickly.
"The past."
"What kind of forests is this mist forest?" Victoria asked as the group headed to the place Martha described.
"I've been there before, with the king's men." Beck stated, but after noticing the princess's eyes darken he changed his worked. "I mean the fake king! That jerk who doesn't deserve to be a king?"
"Use your stupid mouth wisely and tell us about that place already!" The mercenary snapped and the sorcerer's eyes widened, while André chuckled.
"Well, it's a scary place, most of the men lost their minds there." He started explaining." They say some forests are sources of magic, they can curse people, that's what happened. It created illusions that showed them the worst of their fears. They cause despair and fear."
"Do we really have to go there?" The hunter asked in a hesitant voice. "If it's that dangerous than its better not to go."
"Sadly dear André, you must. The man I need you to find is hiding behind that forest, he is my most trusted friend, you must find him." Martha answered.
"We're here." Beck announced
The forest was covered with mist, and filled with silence. Victoria gasped when she looked at the trees, they were large, too large for normal trees, it was like they could reach and touch the sky.
Beck creates a green flame with his gloves. "Green flames represented in the old magic books the guiding spirits, we need to stay together and follow the spirit. Don't let anything distract you, okay?" The others nodded and followed him.
"It's been a while and we're still here, are you sure about this?" André asked after some time passed. "Is there any other way?"
"Sadly, no." The sorcerer frowned. "The last time I came here, I was saved by the spirit. It isn't easy to get out of this place."
"I heard about this place before, my…. Teacher told me about it." Jade said as she followed the spirit.
"Silver guided us through this forest." Beck stated and looked at the mercenary. "Was he the one who told you about it?" He asked, but the question made her avoid eye contact.
"Victoria! Help me!"
Victoria's eyes widened when she heard the voice calling her. Trina…?
She listened carefully to what's calling her, and suddenly she found herself alone, the group was gone. "André? Jade?" She called, but no answer came.
"Sister!" Trina appeared in the mist and called for her. "You're alive! Thank god!"
"Trina!" Victoria hugged her sister tightly. "What are you doing here? How did you escape?" She asked with a wide smile.
"We'll talk about this later, sis." Trina smiled and held her hand. "Now we need to get out of this place, I know how."
"Wait!" The younger princess pulled away. "We can't! My friends are here! I can't leave them!"
"Victoria this isn't about them! It's about you! You're the only one who has the power to stop the king!"
Victoria's eyes widened. "You're an illusion aren't you?" Her heart started beating faster and her hands trembled. The illusion of her sister attacked but before it could touch the princess it disappeared when her magic protected her.
Victoria screamed in pain, she almost fell but two strong arms caught her. "Are you okay?" Jade asked and helped her get up. "You didn't recover yet."
The mist left the forest when the magic surrounded it, Beck and André rushed toward the girls. "Thank god the illusion didn't get you!" Beck sighed in relief while André helped his best friend. "Your magic got rid of the mist, but it's only for a while, if we follow the spirit now we will leave this forest faster than planned."
"The present."
"Why are you here cat?" Tori asked as she sat in the janitor's closet.
"Keeping you company, silly." Cat giggled. "Once my brother-"
"Cat, as much as I appreciate your help, talking about your brother will make me feel worse." The brunette stated, and the redhead nodded slowly. She messed with the shorter girl's hair and smiled.
Cat giggled. "Rebecca acts a lot like you. Or maybe you act like her? You two are alike."
"Really?" Tori asked in a whisper.
"Yes! Your eyes are too much alike, sometimes when I'm talking to her it's like I'm talking to you!" The redhead smiled. "Oh, and she is really nice, and caring, when she is acting on the stage, it's like she's your clone! She is so much like you!"
"It's just a coincidence." The brunette answered with a smile.
"There are no coïncidences. There is fate, you don't just meet someone in such a way, and then you say it was a coincidence. It is fate! God wanted you to meet together, and that may change your lives forever!"
The past princess remembered Eric's words and sighed. "Why do I feel that we are linked? We're so close, yet so far."
"Let's go to class."
The girls left the janitor's room, and the halls were empty, emptier than usual. Suddenly, someone appeared before them.
The punisher.
"Is this the place?" Rebecca asked and took a long breath. "I wonder why evil people always hide in a castle or an old building."
"I guess it's a tradition." Ryder answered and smirked.
"They should start doing new things, the evil tricks are getting old." Jade's voice startled them from behind. They stood in front of a large and old looking building.
"Jade! You must leave!" Rebecca said with a worried expression.
"I need you to explain to me what's happening!"
"This isn't the time!" Ryder stepped between them. "She can come with us. She just needs a weapon."
Rebecca sighed and played with her fingers summoning the mercenary's beloved sword. They entered the building.
The moment they came in a blast of energy was about to hit them, but Rebecca made a shield at the last second. The attacker stood there, as the light of day showed his dark expression. Shining gloves controlled the magic in the place, that was when Jade knew who their attacker was.
"Do you like my gift to you?" Jack appeared from behind the figure. "It's been a long time, Jade West. Oh, look, it's that young girl who seems to be the interest of our dear princess. May I know your name?"
"Go to hell." Becca countered and rose her hand in a defensive way.
The attacker took an attack position, his brown eyes met with the mercenary's blue ones.
"Why are you doing this?" Jade shouted and stepped closer. "Answer me! Beck!"
"The past"
"We managed to get away." André stated in relief. "Are you okay Vic?" He asked his best friend who was holding onto Jade who was riding the horse. "Magic makes you weaker, you need to control it before it kills you."
"I know."
There was a gate in front of them, they stepped closer, but a large rock that was next to the gate took the form of a monster twice their size. "You can't get in!"
The horses ran back to the forest living the group alone, André shot an arrow at the monster, but the weapon broke as it touched it.
"He's made of rock! How are we supposed TO BEAT THAT?" Jade yelled as she kept a safe distance. She had her sword in one arm, and held the weak princess with the other one. "Oliver! You're the only one who can deal with him!"
"How?" Beck asked and jumped avoiding the monster's fist.
"Figure it out!"
Beck created two large fists that linked to his own arms, he moved forward and punched the enemy in the face making it lose balance. "It's working!" He kept punching it until it fell. But the monster rose again and let a strong scream that made a strong wind. The sorcerer lost his balances because of the wind.
André shot another arrow to distract it and allow Beck to get away.
"Are you okay?" Jade asked the princess. "Just hold on to me."
"I'm holding you back… let go." Victoria stated in a weak and tired voice. "You really don't have to protect me."
"No. I am going to protect you for now, I can't just let you die." Jade answered as she avoided the monster.
"Yes Jade, you can." Victoria said. "You can reach for the kingdom by yourself, and find that person you're looking for, you can let go now."
"No!" The mercenary's gaze met hers. "Look! I really need you to stay alive!" She said and the princess's eyes widened. "You really are the only person who could help me, you already did! That's why I won't leave death take you."
The monster's gaze met the two girls, Jade gasped and pushed the princess then blocked the fist with her sword, luckily, the weapon was still in one piece, but the mercenary fell on her back because of the impact. The monster prepared to hit again, and Victoria stood in front of the mercenary to protect her.
"ENOUGH!"
The monster stopped and the gate opened. A man walked towards them and glared at them. "You must give a good reason for this visit or else, I will let my guardian take your lives!"
Jade, Rebecca, Beck, Cat, and Tori are in trouble! Who is that man who opened the gate? Why did Beck help Jack?
You will know Ryder and Beck's story in the next chapter!
And Rebecca's secret and her link to Tori will be revealed in the next two chapters! Do you want that? :D
