Going Back to Change the Future
Five figures stood out side Malfoy Manor. One sole figure took a deep breath and shuddered. He tilted his head to the sky, noting the sun shinning, the birds chirping, and the general noise of the world. Harry Potter wondered how life could still go on, when this was the day the war would end. He wondered if they could actually win this war. They: A grieving mother; a rogue Death Eater; an old wizard with a 'saving people complex', a grieving father, who is unaware that he is fighting alongside the very soon he fears may already be dead; and then their was he, Harry Potter. A boy with a destiny, a boy trying to correct a wrong laid out by wizards and witches many times his senior. Harry Potter, a boy who had to be leader to his troops; again. He closed his eyes against the warm day's sun and took a deep breath. He worried that he could be able to do this again.
He worried that he would fail the people, but he knew that one way or another this war would end for good this time; though, whether or not the light pro-veiled would unravel throughout this released a breath he hadn't know he had been holding. This had to end now! With purpose he hadn't known he had he began to march forward. Strategically, he avoided all of the traps on the lawn. Severus hissed behind him clutching his arm in pain. Harry looked back briefly, noting Severus kept moving, though his teeth were gritted and his eyes screamed pain, but Harry knew he had to keep going, just as Severus did. So he walked through the wards with nothing but a slight sting in his chest. As soon as the wards were breached, a sibilant voice echoed on the grounds.
"You have come at last, the boy from the future. The adult Harry Potter," In the back ground James gasped turning eyes to the man who would become his son, "This ends today, here and now, but I have a question for you. Can you make you're way to me without dying? Can you survive long enough for me to be the one to kill you? Will you be in time to save the baby, or will you both die in vein?"
Laughter echoed around the grounds before all was cut to silence. Harry unconsciously speed up his pace, still managing to dodge the traps and other misadventures of the grounds and making to to the Manor in record time.
Voldemort chuckled swooping down on the baby causing the infant to cry. He sneered at the thing running his hand roughly through his hair. The infant squealed in fright at the rough treatment, but Narcissa Malfoy would have none of that. She scowled at the Dark Lord, imagining baby Harry as her own child and scooping him up. The Dark Lord sent her a look that would have most of his Death Eaters cowering in fear, but the only thing Narcissa did was roll her eyes and cuddle the baby close. The baby quieted, but did not stop whimpering. Voldemort watched in a mixture of annoyance and amusement.
"For now I will let that slide. When this is over however, you will be duly punished."
Narcissa tensed but made no other move as a cold shiver ran down her spin at the though of who she had dared to show annoyance to. She wanted to gulp, but she didn't want to give away the fact that a cold sweat was running down her forehead, nor that she was scared of what he would do to her. All conversation ceased when alarms wrung in the entrance hall. The enemies had finally arrived and Doomsday could begin.
As soon as they reached the front door they were attacked by Death Eaters. Harry having experience this sort of ambush before had his wand whipped out and a shield charm around them in no time. James watched awed as his soon to be son took care of about twenty Death Eaters by himself without breaking a sweat. Harry turned to look at the four behind him. He studied their faces, memorizing every line of their faces before he looked away.
"We need to split up I'm afraid."
"What," Severus and Lily cried at the exact same time, "You can't..."
"I have too. The last time I fought him, I had my friends by my side. No one made it out. No one but me. He knew that hurting them would hurt me, so he killed them first. He made me watch as he ripped them apart, he made me watch as the last ounce of life left there bodies. He made me watch until they were dolls and nothing but lifeless figurines. I can't watch that again. I can't watch people I love... people I care about die, again, I can't," Harry choked on a sob, "That is why you have to go. You can take Dumbledore and Snape with you.. Snape knows the lay out and Dumbledore is the most powerful wizard of his age. They can protect you both as well as yourselves."
"Harry, James and I are not incapable of defending ourselves."
"I know that, but you both are alive here," He stressed the word.
"Realization dawned on Lily's face and she tried to take a step toward Harry. She didn't get close enough as Severus stepped in her way. He stared down at him furiously.
"I will not leave you!"
"You will," Harry began to argue but was cut off by Severus raising his voice.
"I WILL NOT LEAVE YOU! I have been with you since the beginning, I have helped you, and I will continue to help you! You will not get rid of me that easily. Now, what is it I can do for you that does not evolve me leaving you, Mr. Potter?"
Harry's chin wobbled but he didn't get to answer as dozens of masked Death Eater's swarmed them. Harry and Severus both had their wands out and were casting curses. On either side of them James, Albus, and Lily were casting curses as well and slowly, Death Eaters fell. The more that fell the more the were replaced, until James stunned the last of the Death Eaters and, like magic, no more appeared. All were panting when the last fell, Harry wobbled a bit but he knew he could rest now. He knew that he could fail or the people he tried so hard to protect in this life would die. So with a wariness he felt deep in his gut, he pushed forward. He knew that all of the others were following him, but he couldn't send them away.
They had proven themselves able to take care of not only themselves but the others as well and he knew that in the long run, even though he didn't want them to come, he would need them. So slowly, the group made their way wearily to the final battle sight, though neither knew where it was, they just followed the trail of bodies and came to a brown oak door. Severus moved to open the door, and immediately an 'Avada Kedavra' fired past them. No one was hit, though Lily was panting in horror as the smell drilled into the wall behind her. A menacing laugh echoed around the stone room and Harry Poked his head in. Voldemort passed in the room, flanked by less than half of the Death Eater's he started with. He stopped when he noticed the five peering at him in apprehension.
"Ah, the guests have arrived. Come take a seat."
One by one they filed into the room. Their wands were raised and they were prepared to fire off a spell if had his wand lowered, clearly stating he thought five people were not enough to hand him and his Death Eaters, even though the small group cut down more than half of his subjects already. The only person he knew he may have a problem with was Albus Dumbledore, and said wizard had his wand trained on the Dark Lord, never blinking, never breaking stride, just coming to a halt a meter behind Harry.
"What no trust in the enemies lair," Voldemort said causing a rise out of his Death Eaters.
"We meet again," Harry said, "Or rather we meet finally for your sake."
All laughter stopped and Voldemort turned to Harry a thin smile on his lips.
"So, you are the boy from the future. The man that was... or is it is the baby? Nice to finally meet you."
"Can't say it is a pleasure," Harry said.
"Well, who taught you you''re manners? Was it the Mudblood you call mother? Or is it the Blood traitor you call father?"
"Neither, as I'm sure you will find jolly. I was raised by... people," Harry said vaguely.
Voldemort laughed and studied Harry.
"Hmm, looks to me like you were raised by muggles."
Harry was proud of himself for not clenching his teeth in response to that taunt. He would show no weakness this time around. He would do this and quickly.
"As much as I'm enjoying our little... chat, I don't really have time for it. 'Expelliarmus'.
One of the robed Death Eaters blocked the spell and a red spell flecked with gold sped toward Harry. Severus recognized the spell and raised the appropriate shield to protect Harry. Voldemort raised his eyebrow before his eyes fell on Severus and he laughed heartily.
"Come Severus, there is no need to pretend any longer."
All eyes turned to Severus as he stared at the Dark Lord in the eyes. Hesitantly, he took a step forward and James' wand trained on him. Harry never looked behind him though, making the Dark Lord laugh at the blatant trust displayed for one of his loyal servants. He surmised that this Potter from the future was a twit and would fall easily to his feet for trusting what was clearly his. Severus came to stand beside Harry and moved no further. He gave his best teachers sneer at the man he once willingly called master and clasped his hand on Harry's right shoulder. Voldemort stopped laughing, something Dark forming on his face before he took in the stance. Severus just declare himself Harry's right hand man. Voldemort shrieked in rage, raised his wand quicker than a flash and cast a curse as green as Harry's eyes.
'Avada Kedavra'!'
Harry pushed Severus out of the way, noting that Lily, James, and Albus dove out the way as he, himself, hit the floor. The curse hit the wall behind Severus and the room started to rumble. A hidden panel rose up from the ground and out slithered many a snake. Each were tiny in their own way, but the one that stood out the most was larger than the rest. It was long and green and spat insults at them that only Harry, and Voldemort (of course) could hear in parseltongue.
'You who has drawn weapons upon my master's person shall die a painful death at the hands of my poison!"
Harry recognized the snake, though she was shorter than he remembered, but he was sure it was her. Scrambling to his feet, he fired off a 'Sectumsempra'. he wasn't surprised when the spell bounced off of the snake and Harry was sure that this was the snake that Voldemort made his Horcrux. He knew the spell that had to be used, but he could use it in a room such as this. He moved his steps back, noting with relief that everyone had scrambled to their feet and shuffled back with him. He looked down at Nagani and in parseltongue, he told her:
'The master you wish to protect is evil. He will hurt you with a curse and then kill you're babies.'
'He lies, Nagini, I shall never kill your babies,"Voldemort interrupted.
'Ah,' Harry said, 'I see he didn't deny hurting you. Has he already hurt you?'
The snake hissed and lunged forward missing Harry by a hair on his covered leg.
'I can help you,' Harry tried to console, 'I can make the pain go away.'
Nagani hissed her disapproval and lunged again and Harry cast the spell right into her open mouth.
'Fiendfyre'
The spell shot into Nagani mouth and erupted. Lily cried out when the snake imploded, snake bits flying everywhere, but Harry knew that wasn't the end of it. The fiendfyre licked the floor where Nagani had once stood and caught fire. The babies that came out with Nagani raced toward its mother, even though Harry pleaded for them not to go. He watched as each tiny creature was engulfed by the flame, fueling it, and before anyone knew there was a raging fire in the room.
"Fall back," Harry shouted, But they didn't get very far as the door suddenly shut it self. Voldemort laughed, a laugh that was laced with insanity as he sent a sudden burst of magic through the room. The magic was supposed to extinguish the fire, but in his anger the Dark Lord put too much power behind it and the whole house caved in and exploded. Debris and stone landed in every direction. Light and Dark alike were blown off their feet and the only one left standing was Voldemort. He was looking toward the sky, panting as a lot of his energy went into the spell. He brought his head down, seeking out only one set of eyes with his own and finding them. The rich green eyes were staring at the rubble that only a moment ago was a house at least 20 acres in length. He looked around, noting that a baby each was in the arms of two house elves and not only that, but Narcissa Malfoy was also in the arms of a house elf. She had a look of utter terror on at the Dark Lord's ability. She gulped this time, preying that this man she called master would not live to make due on his promise of her punishment.
Harry, whose eyes noted that more than half of Voldemort's Death Eaters moved no longer. Harry was relieved that the Dark Lord's numbers dropped so drastically, and then immediately felt guilty. Those were people lives, and even though he couldn't tell if they were dead, even if they were evil and deserved to die; it was still wrong to thing that way of a persons life. His thoughts were cut off when Voldemort let out a laugh worthy of Bellatrix Lestrange, if not better and his eyes found the enraged psychotic wizards.
"My," Voldemort said, "Who knew you... no the little runt, could be so powerful?"
"Why did you blow the house up?"
"Because, Lucius, I chose too!"
"But where are we to live now? What about my wife and my son? Where are we to go, My Lord?"
"You will not need to worry about that in a moment if you keep questioning me! As for your wife, I think I shall kill her for her incompetence; and yours."
Lucius Malfoy looked horrified under his smudged mask and stared at his wife. He knew that he had to get them away from the Dark Lord, whether the man survived or not. With a look at Severus, who was stumbling painfully to his feet, both men caught the others eye and nodded, silent communication between them.
"Harry Potter, you have proved to be a worthy adversary. Can I offer you a chance to join me? Together we can rule Wizarding Britain and the whole world."
"I'd rather meet the same fate as your snake."
"As you wish," the Dark Lord stated, all humor gone from his person, "Crucio!"
Harry managed to block the spell with a charm Severus, from the future, taught him and said wizard rose an eyebrow questioningly, though Harry didn't see him. The only thing he saw was Voldemort. the only thing he knew he needed to focus on was Voldemort and he cast the 'Conjunctivitis Curse' before he could think. Voldemort of course blocked it casting a curse, 'Transmogrifian Torture' curse instead. The spell missed Harry as he dove out of the way to avoid it and that is when the real battle begun. Curses were flying back and forth in rapid succession. The spells varied upon the caster as red's and yellows, blue's and green's battled for dominance. Death Eaters started to surround the Light. Albus and Severus were firing curses left and right. James and Lily were defending the house elves whom had the children all the while firing curses at the Death Eaters surrounding them.
"Stupify," came from Voldemort's wand and Harry deflected it in the wrong direction. Instead of heading to a Death Eater, the spell connected with James Potter and he hit the ground in a heap. Harry cursed under his breath but couldn't spare a moment to see if he was alright. He sent yet another curse he had learned from the Severus of his time and watched in satisfaction as the spell made contact with a Death Eater flanking their lord. When Voldemort say another of his servants fall, he called a halt to their battle in an enraged shout!
"ENOUGH!"
A hush fell over the crowd and wands were point at people. The four light wizards and the remaining Death Eater's had curses fizzling out from the tips of their wands as all eyes turned to Voldemort.
"Enough of this useless fighting. All we are doing is throwing hexes at one another and missing. I am tired of playing and we should end this now," Voldemort stated.
"Indeed," Harry quipped in the best imitation of Severus he could muster. The Dark Lord sneered and bared his teeth.
"I should have done this ages ago. 'Avada Kedavra!"
'Expelliarmus', Harry shouted and both his and Voldemort's spells crashed together and he could hear Albus in the background.
"Priori Incantatem."
Albus was always a very perceptive wizard, but Harry knew that he had to break this incantation or he would just repeat his history. So taking a deep breath, he broke the curse, rolled to his side avoiding the Killing curse by seconds and casting his own killing curse. The spell connected with the Dark Lord's person. Any normal wizard would have died, but Voldemort ceased being normal the moment he made the first Horcrux. Slowly his body crumpled to the ground, his skin flaking as if it had been burned, and flesh peeling away and dissolving into nothing. It took Voldemort only a moment to realize that he had lost. That the war was no longer in his favor and with the rest of his strength and body, he cast a curse one of his Death Eater's favored. One that was named after said Death Eater.
"Antonin Dolohov Egestas*."
The spell hit Harry dead on and he crumpled to the ground. Severus saw him; knew the spell cast on him and bounded to his side while the Dark Lord turned to ash and blew away.
