Chapter Ten.
(Sari's P.O.V.)
I called Claire first thing in the morning, and told her what my Dad had said.
"So we are going to dinner tonight?" Claire asked. I could imagine Claire absently twirling her hair as she talked.
"Yeah, my Dad said he felt bad for how he reacted, and hoped you would give him another shot," I responded.
Claire laughed, and responded, "It is okay. I understand. He could have flipped out."
"Right," I admitted. "Dinner, is on my Dad."
"So is he picking the place?" Claire asked.
"No, actually he said it was ladies choice." I smirked.
"Wipe the smug look off of your face S," Claire said. "I want you over here in an hour. Shadow wants to do your hair, and I am giving you a dress. I have a little surprise for my favorite girl."
"Fine," I huffed. "But Shade better not try to cut off my head, or something."
"She won't, or she will have to deal with the wicked witch of Detroit," Claire said sounding maninical.
I got up, and dressed before going to my Dad's office, and banging on the door. "Dad, I am going to Claire's for a little bit. I will bring her back here before dinner."
"Alright," Sumdac's muffled voice answered.
When Sari made it to her girlfriend's house she noticed one thing. It was covered in Halloween decorations. Fake spider webs, and spiders were everywhere. There were gargoyles sitting on the steps, and one was perched on the chimney. A few stone gravestones littered the yard. One of them read "Scratch", the others had various names of what looked like the names of former family members.
I was distracted, and by the time I took in the entire scene Claire was standing on the porch staring at me.
"Hey," I said absently.
"What are you doing silly?" Claire asked.
"Taking in the decorations. When are you taking them down? It is nearly Thanksgiving," I said.
"Well me, and the girls keep up our Halloween decorations till New years, because it is our biggest holiday of the year," Claire explained. "But that is not why I came out here to wait for you."
"What do you need to explain?" I asked.
"Well there is a tree in the living room," Claire said with an innocent smile.
"What do you mean a tree?" I questioned.
"Just come and look," Claire said motioning for me to come inside the house.
Claire wasn't lying there was a tree in the center of the living room. It was a thick trunked tree, with pink leaves, and thin purple vines coming from the tree.
A big insect flew from the tree.
"Claire, that is one big bug," I said pointing at the blue bug.
"That is not a bug. It is a fairy. That is a fairy tree," Claire explained. "Flies conjured it up, and she became friends with the fairies."
"Interesting." A fairy was hovering near my head. "What is she doing?"
"I think Starlight likes you," Flies said bounding into the room followed by many fairies.
"Starlight?" I asked.
"The fairy," Claire said pointing at the fairy that was hovering around my head.
"Oh S-Bot 2.0 is here. You ready for me to transform you into a beauty," Shadow said standing on the landing.
"I guess, I'm ready. As long as you don't kill me," I said.
Shadow laughed evilly, but didn't say anything before she sauntered up the steps.
"S, go on. Shade talks a big game, but she won't do anything to hurt you, because she knows that I love you," Claire said.
"Okay, can I have a kiss for luck." I looked into her eyes, before she kissed me.
"Luck," Claire muttered, as I mounted the stairs. Starlight followed me wherever I went.
I stepped into the bathroom, and found Shadow getting make-up, and a curler ready. "Oh there you are. "Shadow smiled kindly.
I took a seat on the toilet, and let Shadow start her work. She began with my face.
"You seem tense," Shadow said. "What's going through your mind?"
"Don't you already know," I said.
"Yes, but it makes me feel better if you tell me," Shadow admitted.
"I'm just worried is all." I sighed.
"About?" Shadow pressed further.
"Your cousin's surprise, and the fact that the scariest person I know is doing my hair, and make-up," I admitted.
"Well, I am pretty scary. I understand, but I won't hurt you," Shadow admitted with a shrug. "Claire cares about you too much."
It took her three hours to get it perfect, but Shadow was finally done with my make-up, and hair. My red hair was done in a side pony. Shadow had straightened my bangs, and curled the pony into intricate curls.
"You look beautiful," Shadow said giving me a kiss on the cheek. "Now I have your dress. Claire said to help you get into it once I had your make-up, and hair done."
"Alright," I agreed. I just looked at her.
"What are you looking at?" Shadow began. "Get undressed."
I nodded. I stood up, and slid my dress off, and turned towards Shadow. Shadow looked at me with a look of shock.
"What?" I asked with a laugh.
"Now I see why my Lesbunny likes you so much," Shadow said holding out the short frayed dress that Claire had picked out for me.
"That is my dress!" I said in disbelief.
Shadow laughed evilly. "It will look good on you. Come on."
"Are they all crazy?" I thought to myself.
"Yes, Yes we are." Shadow smirked at me.
I looked at her with a look of disbelief.
"Mind reader," Shadow exclaimed.
"Okay, Stop terrorizing my girlfriend, Shadow," Claire said entering the room. "And you," She paused to point at me. "Get into that dress."
"Okay, Babe," I said. "Would you help me?"
Claire nodded, crossing the bathroom to help me put on the dress.
The dress was so small, and short it felt like a bathing suit. It was the same orange as my dress, and was a frayed material strings hung loosely out of the dress.
"Claire, is this all of my dress?" I asked awkwardly.
Claire laughed, and nodded. "Yes, Babe; but you work it," Claire said.
"Alright, you ready to go back to my house?" I asked.
"Yes, just let me zap my dress on," Claire said. She pointed her finger at herself, and a dress similar to mine appeared on her body. I was black, frayed, and showed off her legs.
"Well, we better be going now," I said checking the time.
I took Claire's hand, and walked with her towards Sumdac tower. All eyes were on us as we walked the streets.
"Clairebear, please tell me that this is the surprise?" I asked with some level of hope in my voice.
"No you'll see," Claire said with a devious smile.
