Chapter 10: Training for the war

Agnes's POV

I chased after Henry who ran like a mad child down the hill as if he was in the Olympics. He no longer had scoliosis for Aslan magically healed him. Although now I'm chasing my wild brother carrying his bracers with excitement.

"Henry, hold up." I shouted at him.

"Never!" He exclaimed, running into the camp.

He zipped lined around the soldiers. They looked at him as if there was a fire only to see there is none then shook their heads. After chasing him for several minutes he stops to catch his breath. I stopped, panting a little before I grabbed his arm. He chuckled trying to escape but I had the better grip.

"Put these away," I panted, shoving the braces into his arms.

"All right," he chuckled, taking the braces to his tent.

I sighed standing up straight. If he can run like that may god have mercy on Narnia and Earth? Later in the night we joined the Pevensies for dinner siting around a camp fire. The dinner was simple; bread, meat, and some vegetables. It was quiet

"So what did Aslan wanted to talk about?" Peter asked.

"That our great grand uncle was King Frank the first," Henry answered.

The Pevensie stopped to look at us confused. So Henry and I started explaining what Aslan told us. We assure them that we are not going to intervene the prophesy. Susan scowled when mention the prophesy that she took a final sip of her drink, got up, and excused herself saying she was going to bed.

"Was it something we said?" Henry asked.

"No, that's how Susan is?" Peter assured.

Henry nodded as he went back to his meal. No one spoke after that. After dinner, Lucy and I headed to our tent for bed. Susan sat on the makeshift bed brushing her hair, removing the twigs, flowers, and vines out. Announce written on her face while eyes watery. Lucy walked up to her sister.

"Are you all right?" Lucy asked.

"I'm fine," Susan said.

Lucy was hesitant before nodded as she sat there looking at her hands on her laps. Susan muttered something under her breath giving a growl yanking the brush through her hair. I sighed as I sat behind her taking the brush and started taking the accessories of nature out then started brushing. Her body was tense until she took a deep breath and relaxed. A few dryads came in checking on us asking if we need anything. With nothing said, all of us

.o0o.

Early in the next morning the dryads waked us up, "Wake up your majesties, the sky tis awake."

We girls groaned not want to wake up. In fact, we prefer to sleep in after staying up through the night talking, brushing hair, and such. Sadly the dryads won the battle after a chuckle and pulling the quilts away. So up we were putting on our layer dresses and hair redone. I yawned covering my mouth while stretching some as Susan and Lucy headed out.

Even now I feel like this is all a dream.

It is day three in Narnia: a lot has happen from tragedies to miracles.

"Edmund!" Lucy cheered.

Instantly I came out to see Edmund talking to Aslan on the mountains. Henry, Peter, Lucy, and Susan, stood at the bottom. Joining them I asked what is going on, except no one answered. Aslan nodded to Edmund who looked down ashamed. He walked down the rocky cliff, head down with his hands in his pockets. The condition he was in was even worse. There were cuts, bruises all over his body, if not a split lip. Aslan walked behind him till the two join us at the bottom.

"What's done is done." Aslan said. "There is no need to speak to Edmund about what is past." Afterwards he walked away.

Edmund paused hesitantly looking at his brother, "Hello."

Lucy excited to have her brother back walked over giving him a hug. The boy tiredly smiled as he wrapped his arms around his sister. Next Susan joins in the hug.

"Are you all right?" she asked.

"I'm a little tired," he confessed.

"Get some sleep." Peter suggested, nodding his head to the boys tent. Edmund nodded walking over to the tent, though Peter wasn't finished. "And Edmund. . . try not to wander off."

The brothers chuckled before Edmund headed to the tent to rest. A dryad escorted us to the area for breakfast. Yet Peter had another idea asking if I could join him for a walk. This surprised me, but the look on his face meant it was important. So with a nod I followed him while our sibling went to have breakfast.

We walked over to the rocky hill facing the view of Cair Paravel. No words were exchange. Not for some time until Peter finally spoke.

"I'm considering of helping these people," he said.

"Really?" I said surprise.

"Yes, but I don't know how to tell my family." He said. "It's too dangerous here. Lucy almost drowned and Edmund almost got himself kill. How can I tell them they should go home without them worrying?"

"Don't know," I answered.

"Aren't you worried about Henry?" Peter asked.

I sighed, "Of course I worry, but I don't know what to do. I can't simply say 'Henry, hope you enjoy your stay but it's time to go.' That would break his spirit and…what Aslan said about my granduncle."

"So you believe we both have responsibility." He sighed.

"I believe we our destiny is set before us."

We don't know what our destiny is here in Narnia. There is the prophesy that the Pevensie must obliged follow by my heritage. Guess reading too much fantasy literature gone too far. Be careful what you wish for? Is it wise to send our siblings back to Narnia? It sounds logical compare to letting them stay. There is a war going on against a powerful witch whose magic is fading.

For all I could say is that Henry and I are staying. Although I would try to persuade him to go home for it is the right thing to do. If he stays . . . I'm sure Henry would follow orders and stay out of trouble. But if we can't fight in the war back home, it's best to help out in this one. The Narnian's need all the help they could get.

Henry's POV

Edmund woken up around lunch time as we gather together at the dining area in camp. The food the Narnian served is delicious: toast, jam, eggs, and juice. Although you have to crack the egg in order to eat the meat inside. Susan, Lucy, Edmund, and I sat around the small table while Peter and Agnes leaned against the rock wall. Both were whispering to each other having a serious conversation. I didn't like the look Agnes held. It reminded me the day she and mum were talking before the train station.

Edmund apparently was famished. He practically scarfed down a whole loaf of toasted bread. Lucy chuckled at how fast he was eating. "Narnia's not going to run out of toast, Ed."

"They'll pack something up for the journey back." Peter said.

"We're going home?" Susan asked.

Both Peter and Agnes nodded.

"You are," Agnes said.

"Why?" I asked.

They walked over joining us at the small table. Peter started speaking, "We promised our mums that we'd keep you all safe. But it doesn't mean I'd can't stay behind and help."

"But they need us." Lucy said. "All six of us."

"Lucy, it's too dangerous." Peter said. "You almost drowned! Edmund was almost killed!"

"And we don't want risk you all getting hurt." Agnes added.

"Which is why we have to stay," Edmund whispered. This caught everyone attention as we all looked at Edmund. He look serious than he did a moment ago. "I've seen what the White Witch can do. And I've helped her do it. And we can't leave these people behind to suffer for it."

Lucy leaned forward taking his hand. I looked at the older siblings. Agnes seemed calmed like she knows the outcome of this conversation. Peter sighed nodding his head while Susan, well, she didn't look to please. In fact she suddenly fell into deep thought.

"I suppose that's it then." Susan finally said, as she stood up and walked over to her bow leaning against where our weapons were.

"Where are you going?" I asked.

Susan picked up her bow and quiver with a smile, "To get in some practice."

We all chuckled.

The six of us were split up into two groups. The girls went to the archery range while we boys went with Oreius. The centaur examined our swords while Edmund got his that is the same length as Peters.

"Find craftsmanship in these blades." Oreius complimented. "Father Christmas did you two well of strong weapons. But you must remember these are tools not toys."

"Understood," Peter said as Oreius handed out weapons.

Throughout the entire early afternoon Oreius taught us the basic sword fighting skills. Oreius held a lot of patience with us, though sometimes you can see the annoyance on his face when we held an incorrect step. Our first lesson was how to balance a sword, if not our weight when swinging or striking. Each type of sword move punctiliously watched. You can't go to the next step until accomplishing the precise move. When Oreius believed we had succeeded he let Peter and Edmund fought each other while a dwarf trained with me in how to use a short blade.

So far I manage how to block attacks, but not fight off. Oreius helped me to swing defensive blows though not how to attack. Inside I felt jealous at Peter and Edmund who got to ride the horses while Oreius continue my training. It's not fair; I'm about four feet tall.

"Why can't I do what they are doing?" I asked Oreius.

He gave a small smile and knelt down, "Tis not your age or height, but the sword you obtain."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"Peter sword is a claymore which is long and two handed. Your sword is an arming sword, which is used for defensive assaults with a shield if not cut through mail and armor. In time, you will grow to a long sword until then the smallest of weapons can be lethal if you know how to use it."

I nodded looking at my short sword.

Oreius continue to train me in how to use the short sword along with the dwarf. I was becoming decent when Mrs. Beaver came over saying we have to return to camp for the White Witch has sought an audience with Aslan. Chills ran up my spine as we all return to camp. I ran over to Agnes who stood with the Pevensie. This would be the first time we see the white witch that turn Mr. Tumnus to stone.

"Jadis, the Queen of Narnia. Empress of the Lone Islands." Said the dwarf who Edmund said his name is Ginarrbrik. As he praised the white witch while the Narnian cursed her out.

She sat on a platform carried by four Cyclopes. She wore whitish-blue gown with dirt trailing on the bottom. On the top of her head what look like a tiara of ice melting away. She scared me a little that I thought I was seeing a monster that lived under the bed. When the Cyclopes lower her down she stood at an unbelievable height. Jadis walked over to Aslan though turn her head staring at Edmund with much interest. He shuddered looking to the ground ashamed.

"You have a traitor in your midst, Aslan." She said.

"His offense was not against you." Aslan replied with much authority.

"Have you forgotten the laws upon which Narnia was built?" Jadis asked.

"Do not cite the Deep Magic to me, Witch." Aslan growled. "I was there when it was written."

Jadis smirked, "Then you'll remember well that every traitor belongs to me. His blood is my property."

Peter drawled his sword, "Try taking him then."

"Do you really thing that mere force will deny me my right . . . little king?" she said unphase. "Aslan knows that unless I have blood, as the law demands, all of Narnia will be overturned and perished in fire and water." She pointed at Edmund. "That boy will die on the Stone Table . . . as it tradition."

I gasped and look at Edmund then Aslan who glared at her as she continued. "You dare not refuse me."

"Enough," Aslan said. "I shall talk with you alone."

With that said, Aslan and the White Witch entered his tent.

I look at my friends wondering what is going to happen. Lucy hugged Edmund for dear life while Susan and Peter remained close. This was bad…really bad.

As time goes by everyone either waited outside or went back to work. All of us humans sat on the ground fiddling with the grass waiting. When the sound of the curtains opening could be heard everyone stood up. Instantly all eyes went on Jadis and Aslan who came out. The air so tense you can cut it with a knife. The white witch said no word as she walked over to her chair where her soldiers awaited.

"She has renounced her claim on the Son of Adam's blood." Aslan announced.

All those in Aslan camp cheered and applause on the news. I smiled along with my friends knowing Edmund is safe.

"How do I know your promise will be kept?" Jadis demanded.

Aslan roared

End of discussion.
