Chapter 10- Dancing With The Devil
I found myself in a huge hall completely covered in darkness with the exception of the chandelier. I stepped in the middle of the room, under the only light source. I traced the silky fabric of the red dress that clung to my body. "You look ravishing." Someone complimented. I searched around desperately. "Show yourself!" A pair of hands spun me around. Damon smiled as his blue eyes glistened with excitement. "May I?" He questioned. I nodded as he placed his arm around my waist. With his free hand he pulled me closer. "There's no music." "I don't think we need it." He whispered in my ear.
My eyes wandered around the room, refusing to make eye contact. "Why won't you look at me?" "I'd prefer not to." I answered nervously. "Do I make you nervous Ms. Gilbert?" "Not at all." I lied. Damon stopped as he lifted my chin. I reluctantly stared into his blue eyes. "I know you feel it?" "Feel what?" "The attraction between us." Damon stated. "I'm not attracted to you." I pulled away angrily. Damon smirked knowingly. "Leave me alone." I demanded. Faster then humanly possible Damon cupped my face. "Tell me you don't want me to kiss you?" Damon slowly moved closer. My heart beat became frantic waiting for our lips to touch. "Kiss me." I pleaded. Damon smiled tilting his head.
"Elena." Someone interrupted. My eyes sprung open as my heart rate slowly returned to its normal pace. "Nightmare?" Bonnie asked curiously. "Something like that." I ran my fingers through my hair. I dreamt of Damon Salvatore. I shook my head hoping to forget how I felt having him that close to me. "We should get ready and head to The Grill. Caroline will be there soon." Bonnie reminded me. I nodded unable to speak. Why was I dreaming about him? I didn't even like him. Did I? It was just a dream, Elena.
Bonnie was rambling on about what her Grandmother thought about the upcoming Comet shower. I couldn't stop thinking about the dream. It felt so real and vivid. I could feel his breath on my warm skin. "Elena, are you listening?" "I'm sorry. This stupid dream has me off." I revealed. "What was is about?" Bonnie's green eyes lit with curiosity. "Hey." Caroline greeted. I was extremely grateful for the intrusion. She sat next to Bonnie quietly. "Okay then guess I'll start." Caroline said breaking the uncomfortable silence. "I'm sorry for being such a bitch. You and Stefan obviously have chemistry and I was just being petty. Forgive me?" "Of course;" I grabbed her hands reassuringly. "I also met someone super gorgeous." Caroline hinted.
"Who?" I asked oozing with curiosity. "You wouldn't know him." She gushed. Why was she being so secretive? "What's so important that this meeting couldn't wait till a decent time?" Caroline questioned. "It's only Nine." Bonnie retorted. Caroline rolled her eyes as she touched her neck. "What is that?" I pointed. "Elena, what happened to manners?" She shot back. "Oh my God. Is that a hickey?" I accused. "Maybe." "I thought you were too classy for those;" Bonnie remarked. "Well sometimes class goes out the window when he's super hot." Caroline defended.
"We definitely have to meet this guy." Bonnie giggled. "You will." She smiled. "When?" I questioned. "Morning ladies." Damon greeted. My face burned as my heart reacted to his presence. I stood up and pulled Damon away from the table. "If you wanted me to yourself all you had to do was ask." Damon teased. I rolled my eyes in annoyance. "Why does Stefan want me to stay away from you?" Damon's posture straightened as stared at me attentively. "Stefan." Damon paused building up the suspense. "He's afraid you'll fall for me like all his girlfriends." Damon grinned. I punched his arm in response. "Are you ever serious?"
I walked back to the table taking my seat. "He's impossible." I murmured irritated. "Elena, do you mind scooting over?" Caroline asked sweetly. I complied completely unaware of the person sitting besides me. "Did you guys order already?" Damon asked. My eyes widen as they landed on him. Damon raised a brow, a smile playing on his lips. "Seems Elena, already knows hims. This is Damon Salvatore." Caroline swooned. I gawked at Bonnie completely taken by surprise. "OMG." Damon grinned widely. "How cute right? I'm with the older brother and you're with the younger brother." Caroline beamed.
"What can I get you?" The waitress asked. "I'll take an Espresso." Damon ordered. "I'll have an Espresso as well;" I turned away as another episode of déjà vu occurred. I could feel Damon's eyes on me. Caroline and Bonnie ordered oblivious to the quiet exchange between Damon and me. I looked in his direction as his eyes drank me in. I could feel the heat on my skin wherever his eyes lingered. Damon quickly looked away. Leaving me somewhat breathless. "How did you two meet?" Bonnie quickly asked. "It was just after Stefan and Elena left yesterday. I was sitting alone completely depressed. I mean it was so obvious Stefan was into Elena." Caroline paused smiling in my direction.
"I was just about to leave when Damon asked if I was okay." She continued. "I could tell she was extremely upset so I offered her a drink." "But then I told Damon I wasn't 21 yet." She giggled. Damon reached out his arm and took her hands. I felt a wave of anger crash over me. The waitress returned with our orders causing Damon to pull away. Why was I jealous? "So is anyone going to tell me the reason we're here?"Caroline asked impatiently. "Another time." I responded. "I did not wake up this early for another time." Caroline spat. "We weren't expecting company." I shyly stated. "I can leave." Damon offered.
"No." Caroline said sternly. "I'll sit at the bar and give you girls a moment." Damon's eyes flickered in my direction before he walked off. "This better be good." "Okay. Elena has been getting déjà vu recently." Bonnie explained. "That's when you feel like you've already done something before." "Yes." Bonnie confirmed. "A lot of them." I added. "We think it might be linked with the night her parents died." "I thought you couldn't remember that night clearly because of your injuries?" Caroline recalled. "I don't but I've been getting these weird feelings like a distant memory. I've even got glimpses of that night on the bridge." I admitted. "Like?" Caroline questioned intrigued. "A man lying in the middle of the road on the Wickery Bridge." "What? Are you sure it's from that night?" "Yes. You know I get headaches whenever I think of that day. It was right after I found Vicky. We were outside my house, when my head started throbbing then I saw a man lying there, and next thing I know Jeremy is telling me I fainted." I recollected.
"Are you okay? Why am I just hearing about this?" "I'm sorry I just told Bonnie everything last night." "Fine." Caroline sighed. "Jeremy also told me I kept repeating a name. But he couldn't make out the entire name. D Salvatore." I openly revealed. "As in Damon Salvatore?" "I didn't know Damon then. I assumed it was Stefan and that Jeremy misunderstood." "So was it Stefan or Damon?" Caroline pressed. "I don't know. All I know is I met Damon like two days later." "It gets weirder;" Bonnie declared. "I've been having dreams about Elena since her parents died. They're all consistent. There's a man who stalks Elena. I believe he's death." Bonnie gulped.
I stared at Damon as Bonnie filled in Caroline on everything we discussed last night. He seemed uneasy as he sat at the bar. "I'll be right back." I made my way over to him, sitting on the stool besides him. "What's your game?" Damon turned to face me. "I know your hiding something. The same thing Stefan is so devoted to keeping from me." Damon leaned closer as he tucked my hair behind my ear. His touch caused a current to pass throughout my entire body. "Everyone's entitled to their secrets, Elena." He whispered. He gently un tucked my hair. "Damon." Stefan nearly growled. I reflexively stepped away from Damon. I could hear the hostility in his voice. "Brother I'm pleased to see you too." Damon grinned.
The rage that burned in Stefan's green eyes caused me to shiver. "I think I'll go." I whispered softly. Damon extended his arm stopping me. "Now Stefan, you've gone and made her uncomfortable." "Elena. Would you give us a minute." Stefan asked politely. I nodded darting across the diner. I wanted to be anywhere but there. Stefan was not exaggerating when he said they didn't get along. "What happened?" Bonnie asked. "They wanted to talk." "Sorry I needed a bathroom break after all that witchy stuff. Elena, you don't really believe in all that supernatural stuff do you?" "Honestly I don't know what to believe anymore." I responded as I glanced over at The Salvatore brothers. "They look mad." Caroline presumed.
"Quick they're coming this way." Caroline whispered. We faced each other pretending to be engaged in conversation during the Salvatore showdown. "Elena. Can we talk?" Stefan's eyes pleaded desperately. I couldn't deny him when he looked so innocent and fragile. "Sure;" I brushed past Damon following him outside. Stefan stopped at the corner. "Now they definitely can't hear us." I giggled. Stefan became serious as he paced back and forth. "Stefan, What's wrong?" "Are you seeing my brother?" Stefan inquired. I slapped Stefan gaping at him in bewilderment. "How dare you even think that?" I spat. "I was out of line." He said apologetically. "I don't know what kind of sick game you're playing, but I don't want any part of it." "Elena. This isn't what you think?" "Then what is it?" I folded my arms firmly waiting for a response.
("What If I Told You" Jason Walker)
"Stefan." I insisted. "I just need you to stay away from Damon." "So I'm suppose to do as you say just because?" I snickered. Stefan stepped closer as his eyes searched mine. "I can't tell you." Stefan's eyes were sincere. "Everyone's entitled to their secrets." I replied understandingly. My heart beat sped up as Stefan pressed his lips against mine. Our lips moved gently and sweetly. I wrapped my arms around his neck. Stefan pulled me closer hooking his fingers through my belt loop. I felt the butterflies in my stomach flutter. I pulled away gasping for air. "Elena Gilbert." Caroline smirked. I bashfully turned around knowing they had seen enough.
"My mom's leaving for three days for a work thingy. So I'm throwing a party. Stefan you should totally come." Caroline suggested. "We'll be there." I answered holding Stefan's hand. I could have sworn Damon's jaw clenched. "I'll see you tonight?" "Yes." Damon confirmed. Caroline kissed him as I tried to stay calm. I knew he was somehow dangerous. I needed to make sure Caroline was safe. She hurried off into her car. "I should probably head home. I'll call you later." Bonnie said hastily. I cleared my throat as Damon and Stefan stood silently. "This isn't awkward at all." I nervously muttered.
"I'll walk you home." Stefan proposed. We walked hand in hand to my house. "So what was that about?" Stefan asked smiling. "I like you. And I don't want to waste time.' I replied truthfully. Stefan smiled widely as he pulled me into a kiss. "Elena." Alaric exclaimed. I gasped as I clasped my hand over my mouth. I couldn't help but laugh at the situation. "Stefan this is Alaric." "Pleasure to meet you, Sir." "Wish I could say the same." Alaric retorted. "I'll see you later." I huffed. "Good bye." Stefan called out. I rushed past Alaric hoping I'd make it upstairs to avoid "The Talk". "Elena, What happened?" Jenna questioned blocking my path. "No." I cried. "I found her making out with some guy outside!" Alaric exclaimed.
I reluctantly spun on the balls of my feet; "I'm eighteen you know." "Do you think he's embarrassed?" He inquired. "Yes." "I did my job then." Alaric grinned widely. "What?" I retorted. "Elena, we trust you. Kissing isn't a shameful thing." "Then why did you react that way?" "I had to intimate him. And now he'll think twice before he kisses you in front of the house." "It's a guy thing." Jenna added. "Rick!" I shrieked. "You think I'm bad just wait till he meets Jeremy." He promised. "I'm going to a party at Caroline's tonight." I glowered at Alaric. "Okay." Jenna giggled while pushing him into the kitchen.

Caroline opened the front door, music flooding the two-story house. "Come in." I stepped inside as people danced in the middle of the living room. "Dancing as you can see is in the living room. Beer pong is in the kitchen and upstairs is off-limits. With the exception of Bonnie and you." She whispered. "Caroline someone just threw up on the floor." Someone shouted. "I'm going to kill them;" Caroline gritted through her teeth as she handed me her cup.
I trailed closely behind when Damon blocked my path "Hey, where you going Speed Racer." I walked away unwilling to deal with Damon and his smart ass remarks. Sober anyway. I placed Caroline's cup in the sink. I poured myself a new drink ignoring the Beer Pong game. I chugged three drinks before I headed back into the living room. Where was Stefan? "Are you looking for someone?" Matt asked. "Yeah actually." "I'm sure they'll be here soon." He smiled.
"Elena, I just wanted to tell you." Matt was cut off mid sentence by Damon singing completely off-key. "Am I interrupting? Wait I don't care." Damon placed his hand on the wall taking my cup with his free hand. "You're drunk." I glared. "I'm aware." He took another sip. "Let's go." Damon dragged me to the middle of the room. I resisted but Damon was being utterly stubborn. I rolled my eyes in defeat knowing he wouldn't stop till I gave in. I forced my hips to move to the tempo. Damon spun me around mouthing the words to the song. "I didn't take you for a Lana Del Rey Fan." I giggled. "I might surprise you." He answered.
"Someone's feeling their alcohol." Damon furrowed his brow. "Just a little." I flirtatious smiled. Damon pulled me closer swaying to the tempo. My cheeks burned with embarrassment, my dream replaying in my head. He placed his free hand on my waist as I wrapped my arms around his neck. Damon slowly leaned in. My heart dropped as Stefan stormed past Caroline. Stefan's green eyes were wild with fury. "Crap." I muttered.
