Fitting In and Suspicion
It was early morning when Ming woke up. She sit up and try to smoothed out her crazy, wild hair. When she looked around, she saw Mushu and Cri-Kee sleeping in her black shoes and were using her socks for blankets.
Rolling her eyes, Ming picked up her shoes with both hands and shook them until Mushu and Cri-Kee fall out yelling.
"OW! Okay, I know I twisted something again!" Mushu groaned as and Cri-Kee rubbed their heads.
"Well, good morning to you." Ming mutter sarcastically. She was slightly thankful that all the other woman in the Tent didn't hear her friends' yell. They almost sleep heavily as the princesses...
"Listen Ming, I know you're an early riser, but is it really necessarily to be waking us up as well?" Mushu asked as Ming began to put on her Hun make up with the help of of a mirror next to her.
"Hey, you were the ones to decide to sleep in my favorite shoes." Ming shot back.
"What do you mean 'favorite shoes?!' You only have two pairs!"
Ming sighed as she finished the last touch on her make-up. "Look, as far as I know about Hun servants, they have to be up this early. And if I want to help Dad, I need to fit in."
Mushu sighed, knowing he was defeated. Ming soon stood up and began to walk out of the tent, while making sure she doesn't step on any of the other servants.
"You know, the servants that I read in the books were much more active than this." Ming remarked as she walked out of the tent.
"Yeah, well, if I recall correctly, you never had a Hun outfit until your Dad went missing." Mushu shot back as he climbed to Ming's shoulder. "Speaking of which, how did you get that outfit?"
"Oh, I sewed it on myself." Ming shrugged it off.
"Wait, when did you learn to sow?"
"Oh, Grandma taught me."
"You mean to tell me that you actually listen to one of your Grandmother's lessons?" Mushu asked skeptically.
"Hey, I might not like what those lessons say about women, but I'll admit some of them could be useful." Ming admitted with a sigh.
Before Mushu could say anything else, a loud gruff voice stopped them. "Hey, lady!" Ming turned to see a Hun wearing a chef's hat sticking his head out of a very large tent.
"What do you think you're doing? You need to be here severing our warriors!"
"Alright! I'm coming!" Once the chef's head disappeared inside, Ming angrily muttered out, "You old buffer...!" Before making her way into the tent.
When Ming lifted the tent flaps that lead to Mess Hall, she quickly ducked when a chair came flying towards her. It flew out of the tent and crashed into something, but Ming didn't bother to look as she quickly looked inside the tent incase something else came flying towards her.
It was...chaos to put in perspective. At the center of the mess hall was a long table that was covered in food, or food scraps to be more precise. All the men at the table were either throwing food at the one on the other side of the table or beating each other up, while only a few group of Huns were talking like decent people.
"Wow..." Ming muttered in awestruck with her jaw dropped. "And I thought my Dad's camp was wild."
She quickly strolled into the mob while making sure she doesn't get hit or anything. Ming quickly hid behind a tent flaps after she made it across the hall, breathing deeply.
"Okay, this is worse than that time me and Ping were doing scouts!" Mushu exclaimed out of breath. Ming gave him an odd look, before she began to take a look around.
The kitchen was more decent than the mess hall out there, but it was just as active. Many servants were running in and out to give food to the Huns.
"There you are!" A familiar voice shouted and the next thing Ming knew, four plates of food were shoved right into her hands. It startled her for a bit as she stumbled a bit, but regain her balance.
"Now," Ming looked up to see the chef she talked to earlier was standing over her. "I want you to serve those four rookies on the far side of the tent." The chef explained while Ming looked at the plate of food she was holding. She couldn't help but gagged a little bit when she saw a few pieces of meat in them. She even had to hold back a bit of vomit coming up her throat as the chef began to push her back out into chaos.
"You know, if I wasn't working undercover, I would have strangle that guy by now!" Ming muttered to herself as she began to walk into the chaos.
"So, who did the chef said you have to serve?" Mushu asked after Ming swiftly dodge a flying chair without even looking.
"Oh, just some rookies on the other side-" Before Ming could finished, a voice stops her over the chaos.
"Hey, Ming!" Ming turned to her left to see the four Huns she befriended yesterday were sitting at a small table near the corner.
"Hey guys!" Ming yelped in enticement. Finally, people here who are actually decent people! She made her way over to them and set their food down. "How's it going?
"Oh, the usual." Po answered. "Mongo still picking on us."
"Even after what I did to him yesterday?"
"Well, he still complains that he's arm is still hurting. What a baby!" Shin said, making them all laugh
"Oh, he should be complaining! You would not believe how hard my punches could be! One guy complained it hurt for a year!" Ming told them. It was actually true, Ming's punches can bring pain that can last for a long time.
"Say Ming, do you want to sit with us?" Mow asked, this caught Ming off guard. She rarely had any human friends back in China, so being asked to join them really startled her.
"Um...alright..." She said slowly as she sat right between Booboo and Po.
"So Ming, are you still coming with us Banquet tonight?" Po asked her.
Banquet? Oh right, they told her about it yesterday. She said she would try her best to get their, since she still is undercover, she has to go. Though parties aren't really her specialty.
"Sure, I guess I can go." Ming said, though there was a but of hesitation in her voice. It didn't go unnoticed though.
"What's wrong?" Shin asked her.
"Oh nothing! It's just, I'm not very much of a party person..." Ming confessed while rubbing the back of her neck.
"What?! You're joking!" Po shouted.
"Nah...I can hardly dance and people mostly ignore me."
"Don't you worry Ming!" Po shouted, "We promise, you're going to have the most happy night of your life!"
While the four Huns were busy explain how they're going to plan their night at the Banquet and with Ming laughing at some their suggestions, the were secretly being watched by Dunbroh. He glaring suspiciously at Ming.
After a hard day of working and surviving the chaos, Ming was tiredly strolling towards the horse's pens as Mushu popped his head out from her hood.
"So, how was your day as a Hun?" He asked.
"Well, it's better than putting up with that Old Goat and Dragon Lady, and that's saying something!" Remarked Ming.
She soon arrived at the Horses' Pens as she makes her way over to Gleam's Pen.
Gleam soon perked her head up when she saw Ming walked over to her. "Hey Gleam, how was your day?"
Gleam's response was just snorts and neighs, but Ming was able to understand it all.
"Even the horses here are lunatics?!" She exclaimed as she opened the gate for Gleam to come out.
"Well don't worry, "Ming reassured Gleam as she pets her, "I'm going to make it up to you."
No sooner, Ming did make it up to Gleam. But in the form of galloping around the camp.
"WHAHOO!" Ming yelled as Gleam did a high jump over a big rock. "Man, I forgotten have much fun we used to have!" She said to Gleam, who neighs agreeing with her.
As Ming laughs in her enjoyment, Gleam caught sight of something in front of her and quickly stops dead in her tracks. But this sudden stop sends Ming flying and crashes into the ground, right in front of someone's feet.
"Gleam! What was that-" Ming quickly stopped her rant when she looked up to see her possessed father staring down at her with arms crossed and a hard glare.
"And what do you think you're doing, young lady?" He asks her rudely as Ming picks herself up and dusts off her dress.
"Well, for your information, sir, it's my break. Don't tell me I have to work on my break?" She couldn't help being sarcastic. This spirit decide to just possessed her father while he's family is worrying about him. Even if this is her father's body she's talking too, Ming was still pretty ticked off.
"Funny," He flatly said. Dunbroh then bent down so he was at eye level with Ming and said "You think you might have everyone fooled, but I know you're hiding something. Better watch your back." With that said, he walked away from her.
Ming watched him walk away with a scowl on her face. Now this spirit is really getting on her nerves. She suddenly felt a nudge behind her trying to get her attention. Turning around, Ming looked to see Gleam looking at her with worried eyes.
"I'm fine Gleam..." Ming sighed as she pets said horse's nose. "Just having a rough day..." It was mostly true. Ming was exhaust from working the whole day. To top it all off, her father's possessed and she doesn't know if he's in there or not.
"Come on, Gleam, time to go." She said ash grabs Gleam's reigns and leads her back to the horses' stables.
